Any good dps build would have madness and wraith. Force lighting is bread and butter for other reasons. 1) Activation of wraith 1a) use of crushing 1b) use of chain 1c) use of strike 2) slow down while dmging. Unfortunately, this one of the great weaknesses of the sorc, which ppl fail to realize. It's a channeled spell. Range class should never stand still (except maybe aoe to balance things out).
Another weakness of force lighting is the big, flashy spell that always gives out your position in a hearth beat. Sage's Rock throw (telekinetic) is much more discrete. If ya any good at this game, that's a big advantage considering, like ya said, those spells are bread and butter.
Considering the "bread and butter" comment, coupled w/ the "always stand still till wraith/PoM kicks in," it makes Sorcs and Sages very vulnerable.
..and b4 ya mention a DoT build, I'll stop ya right there. Those builds are a joke.
