Hello everyone!! I'm a long-time player of SWTOR (since approx 2016 ish) but have mainly played through the dedicated launcher and didn't really NEED to switch to Steam at the time that became available to me. I've since suffered another PC meltdown and am saving up funds to fix it but MAN do I miss my SWTOR idiots (affectionate) lol 1) I DO have a Steam Deck (og, not OLED, had it since last Christmas) however and from what I can see it's...playable? On the deck? So I'd like to ask if anyone else has experience playing SWTOR on the Deck and how was it? I'm not super fussed about stuff like controller bindings/layout as I've had the deck long enough now that I've figured out how to edit those as I need to but I mean like performance wise, does it run OK most of the time or is it not worth trying? 2) Also how is the update download time/speed, and frequency of glitches? BitRaider has been my nemesis ever since I started playing 🤣 so (if I'm reading right from my googling etc) I'm EXTREMELY excited to give BitRaider the boot but will I be trading one set of problems for a worse one or is the updating/patching process relatively streamlined? I'm not worried about the mbps cause I've got a decent internet plan so that won't be a problem but I just might cry (half joke) if the Steam client glitches/crashes and refuses to update properly like the old BitRaider launcher often did to me hahahaha 3) I've also done some googling and I'm good on the "how to transfer/link the steam swtor to my non-steam swtor acct" front and as I understand it Steam just gives you the swtor launcher to login to with your credentials and security key etc like usual, but the one thing I couldn't find an answer to was about my Subscription so I'm hoping for some clarification! If I transfer/link to Steam, will my current recurring Sub still remain active and recurring or will I be "forced" to purchase it via the steam DLC client? I'm hoping the answer us "no" as the current recurring plan I have via the website/through PayPal works really well for me and I'm worried about having to change it if I switch to Steam. And is there anything "extra" besides putting in my account details to the launcher to ensure my subscription stays active or whatever? Thanks very much in advance! 😃

Hi there! I'm a pretty seasoned player of the game itself, but long story short, I had some issues with my SSD and had to wipe/reinstall the OS on my HDD to get some sort of functionality, and thus reinstall all my programs as well - including SWTOR. So here comes the problem we all hate: BitRaider. The problem I have encountered is that, despite having notepad on the machine, it will not allow me to open the launcher.settings file with it (seems to think it doesn't exist even though it does with other txt docs. Trying to open Notepad with another txt doc and navigate to it the ol' fashioned way, or use "open with" yields the same results) Last time I left BitRaider on, it broke the launcher and I couldn't even patch the darn game so I really don't want to have to leave it on here. However, I've noticed that although the BitRaider client appears to be in the swtor folders as an application (listed as a "brwc_swtor" application file), there's no BitRaider folder anywhere on the machine (even in my apps and Public Documents where it was before) so I'm not sure if it's still "active"? Do I still need to kill this stupid thing, and if so how if I can't even open the settings file, or am I probably okay if I leave it?

We have already tried BitRaider, as I specified in the OP xD It did NOT help. She has had to completely remove the game from her computer, restart the computer, and reinstall it just to get it to work. For now...it is working, but she has problems every time a new patch comes out and it's getting really annoying for her now (understandably!)

Posting on behalf of a non-subbed friend, who cannot post this for herself and is ripping her hair out trying to solve this Her launcher went to do the latest patch, and has gotten stuck on 100%, the play button is greyed out, the cog wheel is greyed out so she can't "repair" the launcher. We have tried the bitraider fix, it didn't work. We have tried restarting the launcher, that hasn't worked...also tried to do the solution involving looking for "retailclient_swtor.version" file and deleting it and she said the file didn't even exist on her computer. How do we get this fixed so my friend can play. She can't even send a customer service ticket because you have to be in-game to do that now apparently (spot the problem with this method lol ) Any and all help is appreciated, I will pass it on to her...I'm out of ideas and I really want to help her fix her game

yeah, the Digital Upgrade Pack appears to have done the same trick at least so phew no more annoying switching between windows haha XD

I did not say anywhere that the game blocked us from using Discord. I said that because the game annoyingly blocks them from using any of the IN GAME CHAT options since they are f2p, we are forced to STOP our mission every time somebody wants to say something to switch to Discord to bloody say it This is not only really damn irritating but impractical, as people come in and snipe the mission items or we get surrounded by mobs etc. while we're stopped to type the stupid messages in discord I am not comfortable audio chatting and neither is one of my friends, that is not a viable option. Guild chat is blocked for f2p players, just FYI. It spams you with "please subscribe to use this feature!! :D" messages from what they told me I have had to send them both money to purchase the Digital Upgrade Pack (or wahtever it is called) in order to push them up to Pref status just for them to be allowed to use the Guild chat

Whisper works, but that oonly works between two people. There are THREE of us. Pretty obvious issue there lol Group chat does NOT work thus far, hence the thread ;-; UPDATE: as suspected, Guild chat does not work either D: talked them into letting me buy them each a Digital Upgrade pack as suggested so we will see if that hopefully works by making them Pref instead of f2p

damn :/ so there's no way at all to enable them to be able to use it? D: It makes trying to play the game together practically impossible...we currently have to use Discord instead (attempting to set up a Guild to use that, but dreading that will be blocked for f2p now too ) which means every time they want to ask a question or I need to tell them something/point something out, I/we have to stop, window the game and type in Discord. I only have one monitor and no way to split screen to have Discord and the game open symaltaneously and its just so...annoying XD

Oh look it's me again, I must be annoying people by now lol :') but everything seems to have changed since I was last able to play till now :B So I fixed my own problem (turned out it WAS the keybinds even though I swore I checked them and they were normal o.o but hey ho) but now, I've been playing with friends who are f2p because at the moment they are unable to afford to sub and I cannot afford to buy it for them And despite being well over level 10 (which I was pretty sure was the level requirement for group and guild chat for f2p when I was last around) i.e. they are nearly level 20, they still cannot use the group chat and get spammed with "please subscribe to use this feature" type messages when they try! Did this get changed again? Or is it another bug, and if so how do they report it when they are also barred from sending in a ticket in-game? D:

UPDATE: tried editing that file in Notepad, no effect. Now have discovered I have the SAME issue on my Sentinel! For god's sake, I have not spoken a single word in the chat on that character since I started playing again. This is RIDICULOUS!! Now I can't whisper/talk to any of my friends when we log on, and sending in tickets to customer support has yet to yield a response. Meanwhile, I cannot use the chat feature. More than a bit annoyed now, BioWare, this is nonsense!!!:mad:

Managed to find this, it was a 10 though not a 12 or a 13 but I've changed it back to 7 and will see if it helps,thanks! Otherwise, will just keep waiting then and hope it won't be longer than another week already feels like forever, and its super annoying cause I now can't whisper my friends when we're grouped up to do missions haha I have sent a ticket as well, and received no response as of yet so will see what happens there thanks everyone!

It seems so! No, I haven't been in any sort of argument at all, I haven't even been back in the game longer than 3 weeks, and in that time I have not spoken in the chat once (that I can remember) I don't usually talk in the chat, at all

I already have lolol it's not. I did state that in the post above ^^ also, if this was the issue I would have the problem with ALL my characters since I use the same keybinds for all of them. The problem is only with the Marauder. Guess I'll just have wait it out then and see if they answer the ticket or it lifts on its own....still don't know what the heck I did to get banned thanks everyone!

Considering I basically never, ever talk in chat I highly doubt I've been blocked for spam (and if I have...what the hell. I NEVER talk in the chat except to answer questions or to try and talk to my guild...which is now dead. and I now can't quit because I cannot type the /gquit command ) In that case, I shall send a ticket in. I couldn't find a "troubleshoot" area of the forums so I hope this is an okay place to post this.... I'm having a problem with my Sith Marauder character where I am suddenly no longer able to write anything in the chat box? I can type stuff, but when I press "ENTER" it does not send, just remains "stuck" in the type box, without sending or giving me an error or reason why it will not send. I am a subscriber, and the character herself is level 41 and was able to type in the chat before but starting this week I no longer can! I've tried restarting the game several times, as well as checking my keybinds to see whether those were accidentally changed and they are still the same. I don't have this problem with any of my other 6 characters, just the Marauder...help! Why am I locked out of the chat all of a sudden? D:

Unfortunately my friend is extremely shy and self conscious so the last thing we want is a giant guild with a lot of people. I think you've entirely missed the point of my post, but thank you for the offer XD She's not comfortable being in a huge group with random people she doesn't know,hence why we want to create a small guild just for us None of us are high enough level or with good enough gear for raids, nor do I think we'll ever be likely to want to do them. Personally, they intimidate me and I hate PvP as a whole so not my thing. unfortunately due to the four person rule restriction to create a guild we are barred from doing this in the first place since there are only 3 of us.

Wanted to make a guild to use with two of my friends, then discovered we needed 4 people including me to even make the Guild D: There's only 3 of us (one needs to transfer over from a different server though so he's not able to group with us atm) so looking for a 3rd and 4th person to group up with to make the guild please if anybody is interested in helping us out. You are free to leave afterwards if it does not strike your fancy, we just want to make a guild up that we can use ;3;

I thought referral links gave anybody who clicked them a week's sub and all the perks listed? O_o and then get dropped to pref again...man I totally misunderstood that then; thank you for clearing that up. Hi all, I'm a returning player after being forced to take a break for a while due to computer issues not letting me access the game so I don't really remember if this is possible... I'm a long-time subscriber and I've recently convinced my friend to give the game a go, I know I can give them my ref link to get them 1 week (?) of sub time But after that if they still enjoyed the game and wanted to play as a sub to keep the unlocks, they're not able to afford to pay a reccurring subscription and I wondered if there was any way for me to buy/gift subscription to their account if they want to keep playing? Things to keep in mind: -I/we are both UK based, NOT in America. So I can't buy the prepaid cards from Amazon.com which is the one option I have managed to find on google D: -I have the 3-monthly recurring sub myself -I probably couldn't afford to do a recurring sub for them as well, but would be looking to do the once-off payments every now and again when I can afford it. OR is there a "lifetime" kind of option to buy subs, that I could save up for to gift to them on a birthday or such? All help is appreciated

Well after much frustration and swearing, I appear to have located the problem. It's not my drivers, or the install, or any of my software as it works perfectly fine with everything else (thankfully, if I'd had to do that I might have cried, cause...the initial download/install the first time I did it literally took like 36 hours and nearly killed my laptop cause I had to leave it running so long xD) The issue is apparently with the Security Key authenticator, as I attempted to install and use WinAuth as an alternative to the mobile app. Just an announcement to anybody else that tries this and has this issue afterwards, it appears that it does NOT work and this is what happens ^^ it gets stuck on the first loading screen, endlessly, without any music or anything else to indicate that it's actually working If I open the SK app on my phone and use that HEYY IT WORKS o.o so yeah, WinAuth is rubbish and breaks the game apparently, don't use it :B

So, I've been away a while and finally decided to come back and get back into the game because I enjoyed it. Started the launcher and had to wait for the update to download and install which is fine, I expected this. But here's the cinch: I've been sitting here staring at the loading screen for an hour and a half since pressing play and have no character selection screen to show for it. It's not unresponsive or crashed, it's running perfectly fine just constantly spinning that bloody blue wheel and doing nothing else. BEYOND hacked off right now, that I finally feel up to going back and making use of my sub etc and the damn thing won't leave the loading screen!!! NOTHING has changed other than the fact I haven't started it up for months due to a combination of laptop/Internet issues and personal health. The update downloaded and installed with no problems flagged etc I just want to play again and some force in the galaxy has decided that's apparently not allowed T_T I would very much like to discover why since otherwise I'm paying money for a bloody game I can't play!

Ugh! Yep, this is soooo annoying, my Warrior herself is probably about 95% LS, but it always does annoy me how some of the choices aren't actually what my toon would pick herself....but alas we have to work with what we're given:D I'm kind of interested to roll a second, DS Warrior though, and see if there are any differences with Quinn's romance arc there...particularly since, 'canonically' (for me anyway XD) my first warrior is already taken by my Jedi Shadow and it would make me feel better to do a 'proper' romance with him haha (but Quinn was just so...Quinn, I couldn't not pick the flirt options anyway XD(and making him babble awkwardly every time you try to flirt with him the first times on Balmorra just makes me giggle like a little fangirl every time! )

I'm going to go from your OP that you're playing as a male JK, which would mean your main romance option is Kira Carsen, who is the second companion to join your team. As far as I'm aware, for JK there aren't any other female companions till after you complete the main storyline and go into RotHC and KotET etc. there probably ARE other flirt options but I would be careful with them when you have Kira with you as it is likely to decrease your influence gain with her.

So, I was rather late to the party and discovered the spoiler regarding his betrayal before actually meeting him with my Warrior, and because of that I thought I was going to end up being one of the haters and end up hating his guts... good god was I wrong. This man <3 one of my favourite companions hands down, and man does my Marauder love messing with him XD
