  1. This has been my feeling. I've been loving being able to play Kotor 3, and look forward to playing kotor 4 (i.e. play a character's story to 50 on one side, repeat with new content on the other). There is content in this game that could have easily gone into a boxed SP RPG. I don't have to use any of the MMO elements what so ever, and at least short-term I am getting my moneys worth. That said..for someone who is here for an WoW clone with a starwars theme.. they should really come back this time next year when they've added a lot of MMO type content. I expect that's what we will be getting as far as major updates go..but right now? This is my sort of game, not a raiding/pvp guilds.
  2. Coming from DDO as the only other MMO i've ever played seriously I can't comment on how this relates to WoW raids but.. Holy heck that looks simple. Are WoW raids that uncomplicated and, well, boring? I've never run a WoW based raid in my life, but I think even I could walk into that kind of raid and assuming someone could say 'stay on the outer ring, tank drag him under crystals' I would be able to complete this with a random pug. Heck, now that I've seen this raid done once, I think I could lead this without any problem what so ever. Compared to the Shroud (a raid in DDO) this is..well, basic. Its not a fair comparison I don't think, given the content for DDO is so differnt (i.e. self-contained quests) but still.. I had been assuming I'd be playing this game purely single-player without trying to touch the end-game content at all, due to my not being part of a guild/being a newbie when it came to raid mechanics but.. I could do this, no problem. I guess it being this easy means I might actually jump into raiding when I hit 50 but.. I didn't think the raiding in this game was meant to be aimed at someone like me, the fact I have no fear of running this at all now that I've seen it..once, makes me wonder how long its going to take dedicated guilds to get tired of this stuff and move on to a new game.
  3. You know there is a massive difference between what we currently have, and what WOW has, since that seems to be what everyone is comparing us too. There are a number of features they -could- add that would making getting into a flashpoint easier, without establishing a system anywhere close to the system WoW had. Personally I'd be satified with being able to/figured out how too resize the bloody who so I could actually read what people put in their LFG comment. Could certainly do 'something' to make it easier. Its certainly not impossible right now, but there are a wealth of basic things they could do that are far from the automated sorting/dropping into a quest that WoW does...
  4. Let's see. Topic is in the form of.. ..."Insert your opinion here' claim everyone who disagrees with your opinion is..'insert your favorite insult/derogatory definition here'... Classic troll post discovered! Ladies and Gentlemen, do not feed the troll. That is all.
  5. I signed up for 6 months. I think this is about how long it will take me to play through all of the content I want, so it seemed a worth-while purchase. I've basicly payed for the cost of 2 full price Single-player rpgs. As I'm playing this game like that, and there is certainly more content here of a SPRPG style then 2 normal full-price games of that sort, I think it's money well spent. I'd have bought kotor 3, 4, 5 and so forth and am basically doing so now. Long term however? MMORPGS do not appeal to me, at least not the MMO part of it. I don't like wasting an evening being spammed by little kids, or having to justify my skill level to someone 15 years younger then me, who has 10+ extra hours in the day to devote to playing a game which I, as an adult, do not, and so forth. That is not a complaint against this game specifically, but is the general reason I don't have any interest in/play WoW, Rifts or etc. As such unless I end up stumbling my way into a like-minded guild of people or something (possible but not likely) I likely won't be remaining in the game beyond that time frame. SPRPGs happen to be my hobby, thus I don't come equip with friends who I'd naturally play the game with. I'm just glad this turned out to be enough like a SP game for me to enjoy it for as long as it will take me to complete all the content I wish too. That's likely a major issue it has for some other people, but its what I wanted out of the game, so I'm happy at least.
  6. Yup, exactly how I play the game. Single-player all the way. For good or bad, the game allows for it. Of course there is a ton of content I'm not doing, heroics, PVP, flashpoints, raids and so forth. So its not like the single-player content is all that there is. Many people seem to want more non single-player focused stuff but for those of us who enjoy it, its there in abundance.
  7. At least another, due to the story being basically completely different for both sides (At least I've been lead to believe all quests class and universal are different for each side, would make sense. After that? If by the time I'm done leveling my BH and then whatever class I decide to play on the republic side playing through all the generic quests on the Sith side doesn't sound boring enough vs getting to play a new characters class quests, I'll likely do a 3rd and maybe 4th.
  8. So which jacket specifically was it that would allow my character to have a rockin 70s stach? Got to get me one of those!
  9. I concur with the OPs point but would also add.... Don't bother telling us, we don't care! Seriously, the amount of selfish attention seeking from "I'm QUITTING!?!?!' threads lately is down right aggravating. No one cares. Really, we don't.
  10. Its a vastly superior system too.. Talk to quest giver -go kill 10 dudes- -kill 10 dudes- Return to quest giver for reward -now go kill 20 dudes- -kill 20 dudes- Return to quest giver for reward -now go disable 5 of those power modules those dude were guarding- ...... And so forth At least the quest giver comes to you! (or, something like that. ) Besides, they are called -bonus- missions for a reason. You don't have to do them.
  11. Ok, I have to say, what in the world were you expecting for what is basically a mini-game. Did anyone really expect to have a game ala the old beloved star-wars space-fighter games of old? Really? You want space combat in this game on par with EVE (or whatever else out there is 'the cutting edge' for such things)? It is what it is, and for what it is its quite enjoyable. That's the point. Its not complex, but if it were we wouldn't actually have anything right now, because they wouldn't be done making it! They have plans to increase/expand it in the future. Simple fun mini game space combat now>nothing until they best possible experience they can make 2 years from now when the release major content patch 5 or whatever.
  12. Because this game has been out for less then a month, and multiple people are demanding conflicting things be added to the game, right now! Because some of us are perfectly content with what the game has to offer right now, and are perfectly happy to wait for them to provide better/more content as we go. Also, because some of us are mature adults and arn't part of the 'everything must be given too me immediately or else!!!' generation. Yup, I like that one best.
  13. Thank you OP, good point. Heck I was just about to come in here and go "But starfox was great...' Half the reason I find the space combat so fun, even if it is simple, is it reminds me of that great game.
  14. At Launch? I can say it seems to cater to People like me, who hate MMORPGs in general, loved Kotor, and wanted to play kotor 3-6.... Then again I don't play with other people what so ever so I'll bet it appeals to more groups. In the long run? It would cost way to much/be basically impossible to provide me with the sort of content I am here to play at the rate I could play through it month in and month out. They have stated the plan to add..flash points, raids, warzones and so forth. I would say at launch, it appeals to poeple like me. Going forward all future content that isn't in the form of packaged must pay for expansion packs will be geared towards your typcial MMO player. High level raids/epic flashpoints, expanded PVP and so on. Smartest thing to do is to save the development of content for people like me to expansion packs. I may not pay for this game long-term subscription wise..but I will be buying expansion packs/paying for sub time long enough to beat the content from them I want too. In the mean time/using the money they make off me they can develop things for the PVP/end game crowd. My cash pays for their content, their cash pays for mine...If this is going to work long-term and please as many people as possible, as opposed to just one group over another, that's the best way I could see it happening.
  15. This is actually not true unless they have changed it in the most recent patch. If your crew member is still part of your group, just away on a crew-skill mission (i.e. you see a timer in the window where there health/skills would normally be if you don't have the bar expanded) then you -will- gain/lose affection with them. Dismissing them completely might do the trick, though I've not tested that. Sending them away on crew-skill runs however alone does not work.
  16. Because shooting lightning out of my hands is awesome.
  17. Take it from someone who isn't here for PVP (and in fact never played WoW because I hate PVP) right now the content of the game seems custom made to draw people like me, who like Single-player rpgs mostly, in. Thus, the focus was on providing us with enough content to get us to subscribe long-term (or at least for 6-months in my case). That said, from this point forward you can easily expect much more traditional MMORPG content. I'd point to that sneak-preview that got put out. They want to do raids, flashpoints, warzones. That's the content you can expect to see them roll out over the coming months. No where there did I see "We expect to roll out a whole new class with a whole new 1-50 plot line!) or so forth, and I wouldn't expect too. Right at launch? Game is made for people like me. Give it 6 months and there will likely be plenty of end-game content for hardcore PVP players like the OP/others. Honestly I'm going to be telling my PVP-centric friends to give this game a year before jumping in. I expect by then the content will be much more robust/attractive to the sort of people who are going to space-bar through all the dialog to get to the end-game. Not bashing that style of playing, just saying this game wasn't made for such people at-launch. Nothing for it at the moment but to wait.
  18. Ok, someone must have added this already, and I think its right their in the tutorial at the beginning but for those who don't know.. You can turn on auto loot/loot all in same area via the options. One-click looting of all the corpses around me certainly saves time! Hopefully everyone knew about that one already though..
  19. There are plenty of other mmo's out there which would likely appeal to you more OP. No, this game isn't what you seem to be wanting it to be, and it won't be. A few good examples have come up, EVE being chief among them I'd say. If what your wanting is something like Wurm Online then this is -really- not the game for you. Saddly, SWTOR is so massive, and the hype was so great every single person came into the game expecting it to be exactly what they want in an MMORPG. Some of us happen to get lucky, and the game is more or less exactly what we wanted/expected (Minus bugs/miss features). There are countless permutations of expectations that were fundamentally not met however, and likely won't be at all. This just isn't that type of game, whatever you were expecting. Sorry OP, better luck in finding a game that suits you.
  20. My largest flaw In game is..having to turn off sith corruption every time I load an instance. In general its the numerous people on here who start threads dedicated to "I"m gonna quit omg!' just to grab attention. ...Also the fact that they -do- get said attention from others, thus rewarding them/encouraging others into posting similar threads. Also, nothing to be done about that/any other complaints towards the community. Welcome to the internet!
  21. This has got to be based mostly on the population demographics that exist on this game. Coming from DDO, a game with built-in voice chat which was basically required use for most game play, I can say I've run with plenty of characters/players whom I knew were women. I never had any problems interacting with them, I never treated them differently, and I can't say I ever experienced anyone else doing so either, though I heard stories of some of the women in my guild who had, much as the OP describes. Then again, most of the people I would quest with in DDO were adults and had plenty of experience dealing with the opposite sex in real-life I must assume. Your going to run into a lot more pre-teen/teenage boys on a game like SWTOR, which means a lot more 'omg, this person is a chick I must impress them!' or what have you. Best advice I've got is to go find a guild/group of like-minded people who don't fall into that category. Otherwise, if you must interact with the general population, your going to run into a lot of that. So yah, such things suck, but its a fact of life basically in any teenage-male driven population. Just look at the horror-stories of women playing on xbox live or so forth. Sadly with a game this big, you can expect many of the same people. I think the number of people in this thread alone who thing there is humor in sarcastically being sexist is proof enough of that. At least..I hope they are just trying to be funny...
  22. Is this confirmed to be true for every ability in the game? I am certainly seeing a clearly noticable delay on most of my abilities (activating a mount for example) but The Quell (interupt) my BH has seems to be working the moment I hit the button, before even the animation for the move or anything has taken effect. This certainly isn't the case for any of the other abilities/attacks I've got that are also instant in nature though... Just my observations from playing. Hopefully the fix it so all my instant abilities work like my interrupt seems to. It certainly makes for a better playing experience!
  23. This is a suggestion/request I can totally get behind. The ability to port back to my ship would be a great skill to have! Would certainly save me a lot of time when I am leveling/just running around.
  24. I wouldn't say its broken... That said I was very happy to find that as a BH the first companion I get (slight spoilers here!) is a healer. Given this is the 'only' companion I've got so far in a rather long-length of time, having her has allowed me to breeze-through content as a tank. Likely I picked the easy-mode class/play style though. Maybe I'm just lucky there as I think everyone -gets- a healer with a ship, but only the BH hero seems to be able to provide some extra dps as well. Lucky me! Unless of course every other tank speced class desperately needs access to such a companion earlier then they get one, and thus has a much harder time leveling then I do..maybe then there is some issue? I could certainly see there being an issue if you don't take the path at lvl 10 that best fits with the skills of the companion you receive..but then this game is -not- that hard, so even then...
