I understand that. I enjoy the SoR/KotFE/KotET companions the most too. I just assumed since SWTOR is "going back to their roots" with Onslaught then they'd probably focus on the class-specific companions plus Theron and Lana
It would probably be a ton of work for the devs but I wish we could get an equal amount of companion content. Companions have always been an important part of Star Wars, both in the films and games. Han Solo you could say was Luke's companion and he is considered one of the greatest Star Wars characters of all time. The same goes for Artoo. In KOTOR, one of the best parts of the game is interacting with companions like Bastila, Mission, and Carth. They really make the game something special. Even KOTOR 2 has great companions (Kreia, Atton, etc).
It's worth mentioning that, without KOTOR and KOTOR 2 we would not have SWTOR. So it would make sense for SWTOR to also have great companions for you to converse with, both from a gaming perspective and a Star Wars perspective. Right now it feels like most companions are just there and don't do anything or have a reason to be there until the plot is like "oh yeah we forgot about you. Let's have you do something" or if there's a romance scene (though I don't know if those who romanced characters like Arcann even got a kiss or anything in the latest expansion. Does anyone know?)
I wouldn't mind there being a Companion-centric update. Companions could have updated movements, facial adjustments, different lines ("lines" referring to the five or so lines your companion cycles through when you click on them), and maybe new outfits for some of them. Plus, new conversations and quests. Yeah, it would a lot of work but SWTOR is at a good place right now. It seems everyone is pretty satisfied with how things are going. Also, the devs have been updating a lot of things like vendor symbols and the opening music. It makes sense they would update the companions and give 'em some love.
Perhaps, the companions you're able to talk to depend on who you sided with in Onslaught? Because right now, the Commander can talk to any of their companions, correct? Like, my character ultimately stayed independent and can still talk to characters like Malavai Quinn despite helping the Republic and siding with them during Jedi Under Siege and assisting them during Onslaught. I can also talk to Doc despite having sided with the Empire during KotFE/KotET and the whole Iokath thing. But perhaps certain companions become unavailable if you choose to rejoin with the Empire or Republic (unless this is already what happens in the game and I'm just ignorant because I stayed independent). I mean, I know I'd prefer to be able to talk to all of my companions no matter what but it might not make much sense for a Jedi who rejoined the Republic to still be able to use Malavai Quinn as a companion since he is probably still loyal to the Empire. Unless it's canon that all companions you get during KoTFE/KotET and the side quests stay with the Alliance no matter what just because that's easier and will make more people happy than taking away certain companions based on your allegiance.
I feel like I'm starting to ramble a bit, haha. TLDR, companions are in an important part to Star Wars and they should receive a little love and attention in the form of some kind of update that involves new convos and quests. But it's not all that simple and there are a lot of things to take into consideration. Which is why we should all continue to brainstorm. I'm sure the devs are seeing this and are hopefully taking our suggestions into consideration.
To those who do think there should be some type of new companions content, what do you want to see and why. How would you like the devs to handle said content?
I am thoroughly enjoying discussing this with everyone.
P.s. Goreshaga, I agree that there should be a lot more Theron.
