  1. I'm on the latest Nvidia driver. I've also tried installing an older version of DirectX as suggested by some of the users in the below linked 21 page thread containing posts from Win 10 users with the same issue. Unfortunately this had no effect. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=859343&page=21 So... I just canceled my sub. Will gladly resub if the issue is fixed. Not canceling out of protest - simply don't want to waste money on something that I literally cannot play - from a technical perspective. I considered reverting to Win 7, but I think it's silly to do that for just 1 game. I can wait.
  2. I upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Windows 10 last night. Ironically, my goal was to improve performance and reduce/eliminate in-game intermittent stutter. The good news is that worked. The bad news is that the game blue screens whenever I now use a Taxi (known issue - a quick search on this forum found many users with the exact same issue). On top of that, in a boss fight none of my abilities (nor movement) worked. All abilities were grayed out - almost as if I was stunned - and I couldn't move. Once I died and attempted to respawn, the game wouldn't recognize my mouse. So.... I take it the latest patch isn't Windows 10 compatible. Seems silly to revert to an old operating system just to play this game. Did anyone else do that, or has anyone managed to get their Windows 10 version working smoothly? Note: I haven't logged a ticket. Plenty of others have already done that.
  3. I play on a PVP server but from having researched servers quite a bit recently I can confirm that Harbinger is the consistent top choice for US-based players who want a busy server. Browse SWTOR ever status and you'll see it's typically a lot more packed than any other.
  4. OP, here's how I read your note: "I am extremely disappointed that this game, which has cost you millions to develop, cannot be thoroughly enjoyed by me without paying for the privilege. I believe a F2P game should be free and clear of any and all obligations by a non-paying customer, and that it is simply inappropriate, and downright immoral, for the developer to try make money from such an enterprise. You were lucky to have my custom while you had it, as my very presence surely enriched the game and community greatly. I shall now take seek out another F2P game, and trust that other companies have the good sense to give away their games at a 100% discount - that is, after all, how the world works."
  5. Open world PVP is very much alive on Bastion. As previously mentioned, it's common to see small skirmishes (eg 8v8) outside major safe zones - especially on Tatooine. It's a lot of fun, if you can take being ganked in your stride. I'm normally on the receiving end, but quite enjoy the surprise attacks. They keep me on my toes and make questing a lot more interesting/suspenseful. Also, if you find yourself "trapped" on a base, it usually doesn't take more than 5-10 mins for the cavalry to arrive. An added benefit is short queue times for war zones. I think the longest I've had to wait is 5-10 mins. I really enjoy this server. Frankly, I like that the quest areas aren't overrun by other players too - makes the story feel more personal.
  6. I'm not a great PvPer, but tried switching from Lightning to Madness yesterday based on this thread. Am just a lowly level 35. Madness may be a smudge more effective at that level, but not nearly as much fun. I think it's because many of the Madness abilities make no sound!
  7. I'll be completely honest and say that I'm baffled by the sense of entitlement that comes with F2P. The game is made by a for-profit organization, so it should be expected - in my mind - that F2P comes with some fairly major limitations. And frankly, the fact that you subbed - proves that it worked! Gaming software is one of the few products that often has a F2P version available. Imagine if F2P applied to other products/services to put into perspective how generous F2P actually is.... 1. A new car - it's free, but you can't choose the color or specify whether you want leather or cloth interior. Outrageous, I hear the F2P crowd shout! 2. An airline ticket - it's free, but you can't carry on bags or choose what precise hour to fly. Outrageous! 3. A hotel room - it's free, but you can't choose where the room is located or whether it comes with 2 queen beds or a king. You might be near an elevator or ice machine. Outrageous! 4. A plumbing repair job for your house - it's free, but the plumber gives you an 8 hour arrival window, which requires you to wait at home all day. Outrageous! 5. A meal in a restaurant of your choosing - it's free, but you can only choose from a limited number of dates and odd times. Outrageous! I could go on. F2P is a privilege, not an entitlement. It's meant to be more restrictive and harder to play. If everyone played F2P the game would die instantly. EA/BW are not charities
  8. I played in war zones on Bastion 4 times today. I think the longest I queued was 10 mins - most matches were available within 5 mins. So plenty of activity on Bastion, as far as I can tell. It's also the only US PVP server that consistently has the higher load of all the PVP servers - which, granted, isn't many! Edit: Sorry, quoted wrong..... Quote!
  9. Thanks all, for the clarification. I guess I'll just continue to enjoy the ganking (specifically, being ganked) while leveling up!
  10. I created a new toon on Bastion a couple of days ago. Am now a level 30 Sith Sorcerer. Enjoying the added sense of danger that goes with open world PVP. I ended an evening session just minutes ago in Tatooine and was surprised at how much open world PVP/ganking there is to be found. I'm not surprised I was ganked - and I don't actually mind getting gankers by level 65s level synced to 30 (I find it funny they find it satisfying) but there were a lot of players on. I must have been ganked by 4 separate groups in under an hour. There was also one largish battle of something like 10 vs 10 outside a base camp. I'm surprised because this forum seems to make it sound like PVP servers are dead. Not so when it comes to Bastion and Tatooine! I do have a couple of quick noobish questions... 1. Why do level synced 65s have such an easy time taking me down? Probably doesn't take one or two of them more than 15-30 seconds. I've read something about PVP gear with "expertise" that boosts stats beyond normal level sync - is that the "issue"? Not complaining; just curious. 2. Also, is Tatooine going to be indicative of leveling on all worlds on a PVP server? Nar Shaddaa was quiet - very few questing players and no ganking, but Tatooine was full of players.... What will Alderaan etc be like? Thanks in advance!
  11. I was introduced to SWTOR a couple of years ago, and played it for a couple of months. Other games came out, and I left. With The Force Awakens out, I became nostalgic and resubscribed, and am really enjoying it. Sure, it's become a bit easier, but the story-telling is terrific and there's so much to do for someone with limited experience. The biggest downer is this forum - however. So much negativity. I understand that the veterans amongst you are disappointed (isn't that always the case, after a while?) but to continue to post about it does nothing but put off fresh blood. And fresh blood is presumably needed to add to the game's revenue base, which will help fuel its longevity. Don't get me wrong - constructive feedback is always a good thing, but there's a big difference between constructive feedback or criticism and outright negativity and - dare I say it - whining. Of course, a whining post about whining will draw criticism in and of itself. But going on, and on, and on about how EA/Bioware doesn't care, puts no thought into development, makes each iteration "worse" is hardly going to help anyone. In fact, I think it has the exact opposite effect. I, for one, enjoy it. And judging by the "gazillions" of people I see online whenever I play, there must be plenty like me - which is good news! So let's get positive - or at the very least - constructive!
  12. My advice - am just a measly level 33, but have learned the hard way: * Keep gear up-to-date (includes blasters/barrels and gear armor) * Equip companion in decent gear - and invest in gear that complements their skills. Mako heals a heckuva lot better when she's in cunning-oriented gear vs my aim-oriented hand-me-downs * For hard fights, turn off Mako's damage-dealing abilities and ensure she's in medwatch stance. Makes a huge difference. I've found that damage-dealing capabilities can certainly be left on with normal/strong mobs providing Mako is decently spec'd I didn't do most of this until I got to level 32 - end of Chapter 1. Was frustrated how easily I died against strong and elite characters. After doing the above same-level Elite's are now no issue; rarely go below 50% health vs. before I'd often die even when using a medpack mid battle.
  13. Looks similar to a black one available with planetary commendations on the empire fleet vendors - look for the commendations equipment vendor selling guns for level 36; that one looks like a black DE.
  14. I look fwd to pre-emptive strike working - still not working today.
