If you are allready wearing it or if it has allready become bound to you beofre you become preffered then you can keep wearing it without the authorization..... Otherwise you won't be able to wear purple(artifact) item without an authorization crafted or not.....

Many of your class abilities only work if you heve a double bladed lightsaber,so you were gimping yourself and by extension your teammates,while I can't say for sure if you would have been able to compete I can understand why they did it.....
