  1. Guild Name: Shadowlands Reconnaissance Wing Faction: Republic Focus: GSF/conquest Website: http://www.gsfsrw.com Notes: always training new GSF pilots. SRW also has imperial and cross-server detachments/auxiliary guilds. GM: Yallia
  2. This, actually, is a good point. New folks understandably get discouraged when they're 1-shot...or, rather, when they feel like they've been 1-shot, when in reality they were hit multiple times (BLC + pods, two GS on the same target, whatever). That's still going to happen, but in general TTK is of course a bit longer when you're using a stock ship. So perhaps those few extra seconds of life give the victim just a little more time to actually fly around and get some practice flying/evading/shooting, rather than simply waiting for respawn. Again. The flip side of this is that I've noticed many matches are dragging on longer than pre-DvL. Lots of TDM timeouts, for example. Feels like more than usual. Anyone else experience this?
  3. Sure. Actually I roll new toons all the time, and in fact I did that just for this silly event. Here's one such result, bone stock, solo queued. Fleet Admiral Ranken couldn't quite carry that team, but did OK nonetheless.
  4. Zagobe is indeed pretty dang good. I've been on JC the past couple nights with a new DvL character, and man, I don't recognize anybody. Well, a few, here and there...I saw I'sys, and Pax, and Paragon, and Michiman...but there are so many new names. Probably vets doing the same thing i am. One such unfamiliar name that jumped out at me was "Anne Frankly". I have no idea who it is but I'm mildly amused that someone would think to choose a handle based on Anne Frank.
  5. Interface editor -> Galactic Starfighter -> select minimap -> scale. It's 1.00 by default, you can bump it up to 1.25.
  6. Good times, thanks for organizing the event. I only got on for 4-5 matches at the end, but participation was impressive. In case anyone's wondering - remote slicing + EMPs is...well, not a good combination. Though it's kind of amusing to try to hit RS before your target does, thus negating his ability to do the same to you. Switching to CC + thermites was considerably more effective. This was probably my best match using that setup, though it still wasn't very good. I wish the CD on CC was a lot lower.
  7. Warming up my repair probes & thermites. Or, hell, maybe I'll go remote slicing and EMPs for lulz. I will probably miss the earlier session (maybe I can pop in for a match or two) but I'll be there for the later one.
  8. Based on the last time we did this - it's more entertaining than you'd think. Stuff dies more slowly, yes, but there are indeed explosions. Lots of pretty blue ones, too. At minimum, there's an undeniable comedy aspect to seeing that many clarions in the skies. Or perhaps I'm just easily amused.
  9. Bumping this, because I totally forgot about it until I was reminded a few minutes ago.
  10. Huh, I haven't witnessed this phenomenon. Granted, I haven't been flying on TRE as much over the past couple of weeks as I had in the months prior, but I did power through all my weeklies yesterday, and won every game on both sides. Small sample size, I suppose. From what I've seen, there are a bunch of guys perfectly willing to swap factions when there's an imbalance. I do it, neutrinos does it (and he can almost balance things by himself), close-shave too...and there are others. I guess we'll have to make more of an effort to hop around as needed.
  11. Gotta consider server time. If you hopped on 5 hours ago, that'd be early AM (before 9). I don't think any server pops regularly at that hour. Try Harb a little later in the day, and you'll get plenty of pops.
  12. To be fair, in prime time (like, 9pm - 11pm ET, give or take an hour on either end) JC & SL are both OK for pops. Considerably better than, say, TEH or Bastion (the latter seems completely dead). But, agreed, for regular pops at most times, Harb & TRE are the only real options.
  13. I use interdiction drive now and then on the T3. It is definitely sub-optimal (hard to stay alive with no missile break) but it's a lot of fun...the speed burst along with tensor is nuts, and dropping it around contested nodes is good for lulz too. Generally I don't expect to survive for very long without PDie, but it's pretty entertaining to mess around with. While I wouldn't use interdiction drive on a Spearpoint in serious matches, it's amusing in roflstomp games.
  14. Wow Tilia, those numbers are totally mind-boggling. The win% in particular is nuts - now, work on getting it over 85%. I keep meaning to add up my totals, but with over 30 alts, it's kind of a chore. I did it back in January and I was somewhere around 6000...almost 2000 on one guy, but only two others over 500.
  15. One additional tip: sometimes those ticks are pretty well embedded, and it's tricky to find an angle to actually rail the daylights out of them. Usually you can at least determine if he's above or below the node. So choose the appropriate direction (top or bottom), target the bomber itself (you may have to to tab through the bomber excrement, turrets, etcetera), then as you fly, periodically tap C to take a quick look at the bomber's position. Keep moving until you have LOS on him. Then stop, and begin hammering away. If the enemy team is any good at all, you won't have a lot of time to do this...expect to put yourself in a bad position, ripe for your own demise. But deaths matter little in doms...it's worth it if you can dislodge the tick.
  16. Been a while since this thread has seen page 1. I quite enjoyed the regular chronicles (I might add a few chapters soon if I have the time), and getting to know some TRE-folk a bit outside of the actual game. I'm enjoying the scene there as much as ever; matches are consistently as good or better than those I've played on other servers, and the folks are generally friendly, knowledgeable, and (in contrast to the assertion in the OP) quite willing to balance factions when necessary. I have several toons there now, and I'm sure more matches played on TRE over the past few months than any other single server. On the subject of the OP, I have penned this haiku: Where art thou Krixarcs, great T2 gunship guru? Where are thy kronies? May god help me: I actually miss that guy's special brand of comedy. Haven't seen him anywhere in ages (maybe not since one of Despon's last GSF School sessions on JC, of all places), and if nothing else, he's good for some lively conversation.
  17. All of the above is accurate. I'm there a lot, TRE guys are probably sick of me. I'll add that when I first started on TRE (which was only a couple of months ago, despite the 400-ish matches I've logged there) I was warned that pub side dominated. So I rolled imp, and burned through 250 games or so exclusively on that side. What I found is that it's not really unbalanced; folks hop factions on TRE just like everywhere else, and things largely balance out. After maybe 300 imp games and about 120 pub, I'm at nearly the same win% on both sides (I think just south of 70%). And when Neutrinos/Equinox is on, he'll swap as needed, and he can balance things almost singlehandedly (yes, he's that good). There are two strong pub guilds, Red Alert (which includes the Ghost Squadron guys) and Unrelenting. When they're both on, it's bad news for the imps, but that rarely happens. Just yesterday I got repeatedly roflstomped playing pub side, against a really strong group of imps including Vospirus and Kaarma. Overall I really like TRE. Lots of good pilots I don't see much (or at all) elsewhere, and a slightly different (scout-heavy) environment. Bomberballs are nearly unheard of; it's like the anti-Harb. It's a nice change of pace.
  18. On this, I agree 100%. As for the rest - I got the story secondhand, and from what I heard, it sounded like there's quite a bit more going on here than it seems at first glance. However, I didn't witness any of this myself. So it's probably best if I step back...let those involved detail the situation further if they wish.
  19. Just wanted to second this sentiment: if a guild is grouping and intentionally stacking bombers, the opposition is going to get frustrated quickly. imo, that kind of behavior should not be encouraged. The bomber spam I've seen on Harb can be epic at times...I mean, it happens on all servers now and then, but not with the regularity I've seen there. If guilds are exacerbating this issue intentionally, it's bad juju. To be clear: in a vacuum, selecting a bomber, in and of itself, is (of course) perfectly OK. I usually say fly what you want, when you want. If you're new, a bomber is a fine choice (for reasons explained by Ramalina et al above); if your team is lacking a bomber in the lineup, sure, go ahead and fill that role. But when guilds begin actively coordinating mass bomber attacks...that's just ugly. Exactly the kind of thing that can turn people off to GSF.
  20. EDIT: redacted. Apparently there's a lot more to the story than I realized.
  21. oh hey waff! apologies for the delayed reaction, haven't checked this thread in a little while. also haven't been on JC much of late, I've been wrapped up in one of my server-hopping binges. But I'll return, as I always have, and will continue to do - until they turn off the lights. and nothing wrong with a little AD now and then, lol. I still fire up an episode periodically myself. With the new naming possibilities I've been thinking of rolling some new AD-related toon names. But - believe it or not - someone on JC already took Tobias Fünke. I'd like to think it's an homage but probably just bad luck. Ah well, lots of other options to choose from.
  22. Bad day for me but I will do my very best to make an appearance. I really hope it goes well, and leads to more events on TRE.
  23. OK, now this I absolutely I agree with. In the context of this thread, and @OP - don't take my post as a suggestion to blow fleet req on a T3 and use it over your Sting, that would be madness. Once you get a better handle on the game, give the T3 a try - because it is entertaining. But the advice above is sound: it is not a good choice for someone still learning the game. I do wish the T3 at least had pods...that would make it considerably more valuable.
