  1. I've been getting ready to return to playing an MMO for a while now, and I've narrowed it down to either coming back to ToR or returning to WoW and giving Legion a go. I've mainly been playing single player and some lobby online games for a while now, and I really miss the sense of community that MMOs offer. I'm not going to get into my history with either game (as I'm twenty-eight years old, and I've been playing MMOs off and on since I was fifteen, so it would take a while), but I'm more or less just trying to see what people would recommend I do. I've finished the class stories already, but I've never tried any end game in ToR (dungeons, max level PvP, Galactic Command, etc). Are they pretty fun? And do you usually have a hard time finding people to do this stuff with? I'm a big Star Wars fan, so it always gets the right of way, but if outside of its class stories there isn't too much to do, I do like WoW's lore. P.S. I'm also a roleplayer if anyone can comment on how active that scene is. Thanks. Edit: No longer need this thread. I've decided to just go ahead and come back. I'm sure I'll have a good time, and there appears to be plenty of people to play with. I don't want to hear people telling me why I shouldn't play after I sub and ruin my potential good time, so a mod can feel free to delete this thread. P.S. I just looked at my post history, and 2 days off from a year ago, I made an almost identical post. I guess I really am a creature of habit.
  2. I just wanted to thank everyone for the fantastic replies. They have all been really honest and informative. I really appreciate that in-depth breakdown of the game updates, AussieAlan. That definitely summed up a lot of the information I was looking for. It sounds to me like TOR is actually doing pretty well in the areas it's trying to be good at. While I love the KoTOR series, and I would even rank KoTOR 2 as quite possibly my favorite game of all time, I do wish they would put some more focus on group/community content. That said, Knights of the Fallen Empire is just one expansion. It's possible they may do something completely different with their next. It's a shame; I wish I could take the parts of every MMO I love and put them together. Star Wars is my favorite franchise, ever, and I love BioWare games. That said, I really want a multiplayer game. I really like story content, but the main reason I'm returning to the genre is to play with other people. But I suppose there is plenty of multiplayer content for me to clear. All that said, I probably am overthinking it all a bit, and I plan to just play the game and see where it all goes. I'm sure I'll enjoy the story content I haven't seen regardless of the ultimate outcome.
  3. I thought using that word might accidentally get some attention. I probably should have just left that out or elaborated more. When I say "serious" MMO, I simply mean a game that I can play for a long period of time (if I choose to) and a game that still frequently gets updated with new content. In other words, I'm not looking to play something for a month or two and then leave and never look back. I should have just looked through the threads that were already created. I was being lazy and hoping that someone who's been playing the game for a while could summarize the state of the game without me having to spend hours sifting through threads to get an idea of where the game stands. After doing said sifting, I believe it painted a pretty clear picture as to the current state of the game. I think I now have enough information to make an informed decision as to whether the game is for me or not the way it is today. Sorry for the useless thread. May the Force be with you guys.
  4. Sorry if these type of threads get created all of the time. But by getting some input from people who have been playing the game for a while, maybe I can either put my mind at ease or save myself time and money. I really have been wanting to sink my teeth into an MMO after a 3 year hiatus. I love Star Wars, so TOR was a natural choice. I played the game at launch, and I played a little here and there after, but I haven't seriously played any MMO since 2013. How's the game doing as of 2016? Is the population staying fairly steady? Does it get new content pretty often? I'm hoping to RP, and I was a little disappointed at the how dead the Ebon Hawk server forums are. Anyway, I'm just curious as to whether it's worth taking the plunge now and playing for a while, or if even the Star Wars brand isn't enough to make this game worth the time investment as a serious MMO, and I should just look else where. Thanks Edit: Oh, and just in case anyone wondered, I decided to play the game.
  5. Hey, everyone. I don't want to bore anyone with too many details, but I've been gone from the TOR for a long time. I haven't really played it for more than a day here or there since 2012. I've been looking to play an MMO again, and I was originally torn between this and WoW, but I ultimately decided on TOR (as I just cannot seem to enjoy WoW these days). Anyway, I'm trying to decide which faction I'd like to play as my main for RP. I have a character type that could fit into either side with some adjustments. How is the RP for Republic versus Sith? And how is the RP in general? I've noticed they got rid of server types (no official RP server). Has that hurt RP? Is RP around, or fairly dead? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm trying to scope things out before I put anymore money into the game.
  6. I can't believe in the vast Star Wars canon with its awesome lore and expansive universe, that you would wish to make such a base and uninteresting guild. To each their own. Good luck, and please keep your activities in private channels.
  7. Just bumping and letting any who may be interested know that there are still two spots left if any are interested. We'll probably try and start this tomorrow, so there's still time to get on board! Just have a want to RP and a little patience (Not making anyone skip dialogue unless they want to) and you're more than welcomed. Hope you join in.
  8. I can't speak for others, but I don't judge you at all. I think more than holding anything against you, it's just disappointing for some. I think for some of us, when we think of Star Wars, we think of epic adventures, crazy plots, huge sacrifices, roaming the galaxy, exploring the fringes of space etc. Okay, maybe I did get a bit melodramatic; but still. Let me make one thing clear though: I am NOT a person who favors action over character development. I hate action movies. I love mind bending tear jerkers like To the Moon, Planescape: Torment or Silent Hill 2. But I think, for me, when I come to RP in the Star Wars universe, sipping tea in a Cantina is a bit of a disappointing prospect. Trust me when I say I know it can be hard and stressful to come up with interesting plots that can involve multiple people. I probably wouldn't be very good at it myself. And it's not everyone's 'cup of tea.' ;p Anyway, I'm not being cynical, just getting involved in the discussion. I've just recently returned to the game and I haven't even begun to look for RP yet so I'm just going off of hear say and experience from other MMO's. But I definitely respect your RP style, and I even enjoy Cantina RP from time to time myself. Some times, I think I just come into these MMO's with unrealistic expectations. And the truth of the matter is, if you really want more involved RP, it probably is going to come down to joining a guild.
  9. Yeah, that's one of the issues with these type of groups some times. After a while, sometimes people get on different schedules and want to level at different times then the group, or they get really addicted to the game and want to rush through and skip the RP or feel like they're having their privacy encroached on. My hope is the fun will will make the annoyances worth it. If this actually get's started, I figure some people are going to want to go their own way or want to level their character on their own and I'm fine with that. I'm hoping this will be a starting way to meet some RPers outside of the cantina. Even if some people want to go their own way or whatever, perhaps we could still RP together. Anyways, who knows if this will even get off the ground. I know the game has been out a while now and not a ton of people check the server forums.
  10. Actually, it was Nateera and I never got to RP much with her sadly. I didn't do much outside of the main story, FP's, and some WZ's. That's why I'm really trying go about it different this time.
  11. Hey everyone. Let me start with just a little information of where I'm coming from. I've just come back to ToR after a very long time. I started at launch and had a blast but burned myself out by March. But this time, I hope to approach the game the way I originally intended to and have fun. I played one character to 50, a Jedi Knight, back at launch. I really would like to see the other stories but, more importantly, RP while doing so if possible. I'm not exactly sure how the game is doing these days, so I know it may be hard to pull this together, but if I can, I really hope some others would like to join in. SO finally, here's what I'm hoping to achieve: I would really like to start a character from scratch and RP while doing it with others along the way. It would be great to form a fun group to level through the planets and possibly even do the Flash Points together all while RPing at the same time. I'm still completely open to suggestions for what faction to play. While I like Republic better, I've already played a Republic character to the cap, so it would be nice to see the Sith side of things. So either way, I'd probably be happy with either faction. I'm not even sure what race or gender I'm playing yet, but I have some ideas. I know there are a lot of variables here. I tried joining in with some others a while back on WoW with something similar, and I remember one of the hardest things to overcome was availability. I personally am not working at the moment and for issues at my home can't start looking for a job until next month. So I am pretty much available at most times for the time being. If this actually does go anywhere, I thought maybe we could even find ways to tie some of are characters together through a plot, or their past. A little cohesion in are story would probably help things be less random and more fun. That said, anyone with an interest in RP and leveling a new character is absolutely welcome. All I ask is you try your best to be mature and respectful and do your best not to God Mode or other major RP breaking tropes. I'll be glad to explain the ins and outs of Roleplay if you're uncertain of anything, though do bear in mind that I haven't RP'ed much myself in recent days and am probably a bit rusty myself. I've been playing MMO's for almost 9 years now, and while I know the odds of this working out are low, I really want to give this a go. It's been my dream for so long to really get to RP in the Star Wars universe. I'm really ready to get to make my own Star Wars saga here. Alright, alright, I'm done geeking out for now, but really, if anyone is interested in this, new or experienced, please don't be afraid to speak up. I think we could have some fun, and if doesn't work, none of us will be any worse for wear. Here's hoping!
  12. Particularly the not being able to see weapons in the preview window drives me NUTS. I completely agree with that part.
  13. I can attest to this, from my personal experience. I had an AMD 9350e (Quad core 2.00 ghz per core) processor with 6 gigs of ram and I (Stupidly) purchased the GTX 560 ti, thinking my video card was the bottleneck, and that it would improve my horrible fps (Warzones were unplayable and the fleet was a slide show). I installed the GTX 560 ti into my old system and received absolutely no performance increase what so ever. I bit the bullet and bought a PC with the i5 2320 because my sister had it and it ran SWTOR perfectly with a lesser video card (HD 6770). To say the least once I put my 560 ti in the my new computer with the i5 it was a night and day scenario. I run the game flawlessly (At least I consider a consistent 60+ fps on ultimate settings flawless in 1080p) and I actually lost 2 gigs of ram as my new setup only has 4 gigs of ram (Mind you my old setup was using DDR2) I'm completely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend the i5 2320 to anyone. The GTX 560 ti is a great card but if it comes down to a lesser processor over a lesser video card I would get the i5 and perhaps get a hd 6870 video card if your forced to choose, for the processor was definitely the bottleneck in my case and the 6870 will play TOR fine (You could even do the 6770 like my sister, and she runs fine with it, but you may not be able to run perfectly on 1080p with it, as she is playing on a rather small monitor, so I can't say for sure.) I highly recommend the GTX 560 TI along with the i5 if you can swing it as it's my current setup and I love it. But again, I would not sacrifice the processor over the video card, particularly if your doing this strictly for SWTOR. My current specs i5 2320 3 ghz per core 4 gigs of DDR3 1066 running at 1333 500 gig 7200 rpm sata HD GTX 560 ti 23 inch monitor running at 1900x1080 With the above I get, on average, around 55-110 fps (Running at around 75 ish on average.) I hope I helped.
  14. ^ Yep, he's right. I've seen a lot of the big RP guilds that formed before launch on Sanctum of Exalted. It seems like it should have been on the list >> I know I'm rolling on Sanctum. But either way, like others said, it's to early to tell what server, if not all of them, will end up being well populated.
  15. I got a CE too, but I'm glad they let everyone in at the same time. I bought what the box/ online retailer stated, not getting in sooner then everyone else.
