  1. Heh I'm a student, which means I'm pretty much always poor, the computer I gathered with parts I've bought slowly over a long period of time, with money I made before I started studying in a small managing position I managed to get. I earned everything I have, if you wanna whine about not being able to afford what you want, maybe you should get off your bum and start working for it? That real world you like getting back to, involves you not having what you want, cuz your probably too lazy to get it. So gl with that.
  2. Swtor is very playable, people have sooo many issues with this game it's unbelieveable. I hardly had any bugs in this game since launch (besides the obvious ones which affect us all). I suspect it has a relation to people being extremely poor and managing their systems very badly... I'm running the game (since launch) in 1920x1080 everything on max except shadows on "low" and grass+trees at "60". Using forced Anti Aliasing x16 forced with Nvidia Inspector. I get dips down to 40 fps when it's extremely crowded on fleet. Otherwise it's 60-120 fps all other places in the game. System: Windows 7 x64, Core i7 930@3.4Ghz, MSI Geforce GTX 480 @ 750 Mhz Core. These screenshots will show you how the game looks all the time when I'm playing on my widescreen samsung LED: http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor1.jpg http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor2.jpg http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor3.jpg http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor4.jpg http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor5.jpg http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor6.jpg http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor7.jpg http://blackweb.dk/img/swtor/tor8.jpg
  3. So let me get this straight.. when someone offers you a candy bar you don't accept it and say thanks? Instead you whine about it not being the exact kind of candy bar you felt like having? If you don't like the F2P restrictions... PAY for the game. Problem solved. Personally I invite a F2P option if it means more ppl to play the game with.
  4. StorywiseI wanted exactly what they have given, you can't ask for anything better than the cinematics, voice acting etc. then what this game has provided. Mechanically... well at first I was actually quite optimistic, but the more I play SWTOR the more I feel like it should have had a SWG principle to begin with. A more sandbox oriented starting point if you will, hard to explain exactly what I mean but fx being able to enter my spaceship, travel through some form of free roam space goes a long way with me, personally. Like STG has now as a basic principle perhaps, with a general dimension of space and a local one depending on which star system you enter, to bridge the gap from entering your ship and all you have is a star system map and cutscenes... this doesn't feel STAR warsy to me or very immersive. Also I wish they would have made more beautiful planets and focused on making them seem more "alive" in general, as we all know they have a certain barren "dead" feel to them as it is. They should also give ppl an excuse to hang out on planets instead of the fleet all the time which gets pretty stale after a very short while if you ask me. They have paid too little attention to immersion, take wow, running around in orgrimmar... as you enter the various parts of the city, the lighting suddenly changes, sounds effects are faded together and switched out so you get a real feeling of "oh now I'm entering the slums (or whatever area)". This game is almost completely missing that in most places. I could pos alot of things but... to try and put it shortly, they just haven't fixed the immersiveness of the mmo aspect of the game enough! While the conversation and scripted parts are frickin works of art, everything else like the basic world your moving around in is hardly believeable at all. I suspect this graphics style, while it's neat in a certain way, just can't give the immersion an mmo should have.
  5. That's strange I have the same level of enjoyment, but I don't feel like the game is anything at all like WoW. I mean it has an MMO build, like most mmo's do, but that's pretty much the likeness to wow besides some simple features that has nothing to do with the visual experience or the game mechanics. But to contribute, I loved the original KOTOR game and I enjoy this game mostly because of that also cuz it's Star Wars. As an MMO I never really felt space mmo's felt as realistic as games like WoW or Guild Wars, since it's much easier to simulate a realistic feel when your on a "world" with a surface and buildings etc. In sci-fi games your constantly on ships and usually pretty socially barren planets that are only for questing etc. which makes it hard to get that "everyday life" kinda feeling. But as a coop with friends or single player experience and abit of light weight mmo'ing this game is pretty sweet. I am saddened at how things turned out with Bioware because of the pressure from negative fans, people are (un)fortunately very passioned when it comes to things they hold dear, like Star Wars and when things don't end they way they liked they tend to exaggerate.
  6. My original post was tips to help out, yet you chose to see the negative side of it (as I suspect you do with most things). But I'm not the one having trouble with the game, in fact I'm playing it flawlessly on my Nvidia card. But I can certainly see why the original founders of Bioware left the industry, largely due to the stress of having to deal with people like you and the other "just waiting for an excuse to troll" people. But have fun with that.
  7. Where in my post did I post that Bioware had no blame what so ever? Sure there are systems out there that are having issues since this patch, but the fact is people generally suck at taking care of their systems and if they would just take the time to systematically go through their system using the tips I provided and perhaps a bunch of others I didn't write, they could fix most issues! So let's try not to jump to conclusion about posts people make, before we are absolutely sure they arent talking out of their behind ok?
  8. To all the ppl having so called glitches and delays, some of you have graphic cards which there shouldnt be a single problem with? *** are you doing with your computers? a few tips... - DO A COMPLETE VIRUS AND SPYWARE SCAN AND REMOVE IT ALL! (this fixes 5/10 issues and yes all that crap on you pc really does take a huge toll on the performance of everything you do) If you don't own this type of software I recommended using AVG and it's backgroundshield and downloading Adaware (not to use its protection shield) but only to run a complete scan and removal of spyware. - CLEAN OUT DRIVERS. As in completely remove any and all traces of drivers you have installed at the moment, if you have to, download special tools to make sure you get all traces removed! There's usually on your GFX manufactureres website. Then reinstall the non-beta (newest) version of your graphics card driver... if your having trouble still, download the version just before that. If all else fails perhaps your lucky with BETA drivers, but use it as a last resort... - DON'T INSTALL ANY SOFTWARE AT ALL, that promises to speed up your PC somehow! This is ALL ******** since no such program exists, cuz guess what... your computer can't get faster than the hardware in it! All you have to do is keep things clean on the spyware/crap software department and it will do fine. - CLEAR HARDDRIVE SPACE: I recommend having at least 60 gigs free on the same drive as your operating system. - (DESKTOP COMPUTERS) Take off your cover on the side of the PC... if there are wires everywhere and they arent neatly tugged in the back, to make way for a decent airflow... disconnect the power cable and rearrange EVERYTHING so that the 2-3 case fans (which you should have as a minimum) generates a decent airflow through the case. IF EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS and you feel your computer has no purpose in life if it can't play SWTOR, then reformat your entire C: drive, do a fresh windows install, install antivirus as the VERY first thing you do, update all drivers, install tor and try to play. Take my advice or leave it, but I'm pretty sure that if you all would just bother with making sure at least all these things are 100% in order it will solve half the problems out there. Don't just moan like a frickin helpless baby and point your finger at Bioware, learn to solve your problems instead. And have a nice day EDIT: Btw I'm running on a GTX 480 (slightly overclocked), Core i7 930 @ 3.4 Ghz, Windows 7 64 Bit with the latest forceware drivers from nvidia's site (non-beta ones) and everything is flawless, also since patch I have a pretty solid FPS increase.
  9. The graphics card alone can hardly describe the overall handling of a game, since if the rest of the PC is crap it will still be slow as hell. So... Core i7 930 @ 3.4Ghz 12 GB DDR3 1800 mhz Geforce GTX 480 /with Accelero Xtreme cooling kit Core @ 750 Mhz Everything runs fluidly in 1920x1080 with everything on max except shadows on low. Force x16 AA with Nvidia inspector. When it's really crowded in fleet I dip to around 40 fps but all other places I'm around 60-100 fps.
  10. Hey I hope it's okay I'm posting this in general since there's no forum called "off-topic" as far as I can tell. I just wanted to start a thread about rpg's and see what names people are gonna throw around. Basically just post an an rpg game/or several that you find the most awesome for PC. I'll start off by naming a few I deem to be the best ever made for PC. Fahrenheit - Indigo Prophecy: This game takes the cake... it's the most immersive and awesome game ever and the story is beyond compare. Everyone should play this, despite the sometimes awkward controls. Baldur's Gate I and II: Classics do I really need to say more? (remake in progress atm, do a google) Halflife: Best 1st person story ever if you ask me, the sequels are great aswell but honestly the story is so awesome in this game. (do a google on black mesa to find out about the remake which is in dev) Deus Ex - Human Revolution: Another great FPS with a severly awesome storyline and great mood settings. So what great names do you have you feel should be put on the very best list?
  11. Just to clarify... My reply wasn't solely centered on you alone friend, yes I started it out with quoting you because you mentioned some things that reflect a common attitude I see in sentinels(some dps'ers). You said you were getting a kick out of our responses, it sounded to me like you were amused on how frustrated we were when you were trolling your way through random hard modes. Honestly I haven't met someone I couldnt hold aggro from on a sustained boss fight while being in parts tionese/columi/bm pvp gear for tanking. Either you are so overpowered and geared to the max that what your saying is true or you play with some really ****** tanks. I realise there's a chance I might not have met a dps as uber geared as you in my xxx amount of random hardmodes I've tanked but I seriously doubt it... and when I go through a hardmode with an almost completely rakatta geared sentinel and he seems to be dpsing away and not getting aggro, stands and waits until I pull, shows respect to his group members I have to assume that when the others I meet with half as good gear is making s-hit hit the fan every 5 minutes I have to assume the problem is the person, not the class or gear. But my opinion is... if you own that bad in your damage, do the hardmodes all alone? Maybe with a healer to accompany you I mean things must die in less than 10 seconds if you really get aggro from barely touching a button. Is all I'm saying...
  12. Well hard to argue with you on these things, lots of fine points. But I do have to mention I'm using a topped out tanking tree and I'm getting by just fine... not having aggro issues, plenty of rage, plenty of cc'ing when being able to stun mobs with hilt strike+stasis/push talents. I do agree your spec is effective, but this game has alot more to do for a tank than just hold aggro. In wow (yes I said it damnit) it was always about keeping aggro for a tank, dodge things on ground, move boss to the right location, interrupt once in a while and your pretty much set for all the fights. But in this game there's often alot more mobs at a time in comparison and being able to do short term cc'ing in combat has alot of advantages (plus it's ALOT more fun). Personally I find just jumping/running from mob to mob getting aggro dull, my stasis/push/hilt strike is pretty much always on cooldown and I'm willing to bet that I look a hell of alot cooler fighting through packs than your average "specced for efficiency" tank. But I suppose in the end it's about how much your doing ops or not and what suits your team/style etc. Just thought your answer deserved a response since you took the time out to explain things in depth.
  13. If your looking for pro's/con's I can list a few. I play a guardian tank and the benefits are obvious. -It's easy to do fp's considering you pretty much insta-queue. -You still have the option to do very good dps by respeccing (good enough for operations aswell), sentinels can ONLY dps ever until they reroll a new char. -You can get good scores in warzones easy by "protecting" others. On the negative side I'd have to say... -It's generally tough to be a tank, you have to deal with ppl's crap all the time. They were too afraid to be a tank themselves and so the whining begins as your sentinel party member, acts like a selfish douche all the way through whatever fp's you play. (ninja-pulls etc. bad attitude) Sorry to generalise but it's a 7/10 times this is for sure. -Second, while it's easy to get good stats in pvp it's also boring. Pvping as a guardian tank consists of using your aoe taunt, your normal taunt and your guardian leap. It's effective yes, but it's pretty damn boring and you probably won't kill ppl very often unless your pushing them into acid/fire. Personally I'd like to see our dam boosted abit in pvp so we can actually kill someone, at least once in a while. NOTE: I realise buffing damage on players that can take loads of damage is risky but come on... some ranged dps'ers can't even be bothered with moving while you spam your damage abilities on them and they are finishing off your mates. The only thing I can do to help is taunt him and interrupt/push/stasis him and honestly the cd's on those abilities are so long that it's barely useful in most cases, even with the talents on push/stasis etc. Just the things off the top of my head.
  14. I accept this explanation and seeing as your pretty good at this kinda stuff I quickly get curious about your opinion/explanation on something else. Red lightsabers and jedi knights with faces that are filled with dark corruption, yet working for the republic. I have been eagerly awaiting the day when someone could give me an explanation, that would make me feel like it's justified that this should be possible in this game. I mean I play a classic jedi knight (tank), I wear the brown robes and I use a blue lightsaber. I know, boring right. But I like the classic stuff it's what I live for in this game. If I wanted to roleplay my character I would never stand side by side in a fight with a corrupted jedi, who's using a red saber and picks the darkside option on every conversation. But I can't... I don't have a choice. Just like I don't have a choice seeing my entire jedi order, apparently fallen to the darkside, all with red sabers. Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm fighting for the republic or the sith? Also I can't say I know anything about this, but I'm willing to bet that there's hardly any light-sided sith, even though it's possible in this game atm and if there is, how exactly are you gonna roleplay/explain your way out of a goodie-two shoe sith, who hasn't been stabbed through his gut by ANY other sith in his order? Personally I find it anti-immersive that these things are possible and I'd really like an explanation that would make me feel like it could be justified. And just to keep things crystal clear, I'm not trying to insult you or anyone in any way I don't know if you have a char like this or not I am really just honestly curious what your opinion/explanation would be on this topic.
