even ppl comment here less and less

I hardly post anything on the forums anymore. But I think it’s important that I post now to show support for the APAC community. Broadsword need to start listening to what the community is telling them. Get rid of the credit restrictions & open free transfers for all of APAC this week.

    @KeithKanneg @EricMusco @JackieKo

Im noticing more & more APAC players unsubbing this weekend & posting the images on social media.

This is happening because of the extended delay to transfers & because you’ve decided to stop communicating again. Which is causing a lot of anxiety & anger in the APAC community.

The consensus is you’ve stopped reading or listening to our feedback again. There are still a lot of concerns that more needs to be addressed to make the server work.

The fear & anxiety in the community is real. The fear is you will close the server down after we transfer if there aren’t enough people. And we’ll all be forced to merge again with the US. That anxiety could lead to a self fulfilling situation because players won’t transfer because of this worry. Making it come true by default.

Wether that’s true or not isn’t the issue right now. You guys need to manage the community’s fear & anxiety of this with more communication & some assurances or the server WILL fail because this fear has been festering since December/January.

APAC players want the Server to be successful. They want the low ping & better performance. But they also want to be treated with some respect & they feel that’s not happening at the moment. Basically, they feel you aren’t listening or managing the communities expectations. If you genuinely want this project to succeed, you need to do more to reassure the APAC player base.

This delayed transfer situation is becoming untenable. The server is a grave yard at the moment. Myself & many of the community who believed in limiting credit transfers at the start, can admit that was a mistake. Now you guys need to admit it too & walk back on that idea of fresh start server or the server will never recover enough to be financially viable or playable for group content.

It’s apparent the majority of the “new start” players from other regions have already abandoned the server. That experiment is over now that the server is more than 3 months old. It’s time to admit that NA & EU players would prefer to play in their own regions because the ping is better.

If you want the APAC server to work & have a thriving APAC community, now is the time to act. Waiting till the next patch launch sometime in March to communicate or fix this will be too long. Each day we lose more APAC players from the entire game, not just the SV server. The longer this takes the more will leave.

    1. Forget about limiting credits & open up transfers next week.

    2. Any current APAC subscribers when transfers open, regardless of when they subscribed, should be eligible for the 16 free transfers.

    3. Give extra free transfers to any APAC player, regardless of being a subscriber or not, that has PAID to open up extra server slots. Each paid slot should = 1 extra free transfer. So if you’ve paid to open 20, you get 20 extra free transfers.

    4. Give 1-4 free transfers to Preferred / Free to Play APAC located players that have had an account since before the APAC server opened last November.

I really hope you guys are listening so we can fix this together. Please start communicating.

@KeithKanneg you guys need to listen to what TrixxieTriss is saying here.

100%! This is our new home so we should get to take our stuff with us like we did when we were forced off the APAC servers in the first place.

Exactly. The devs should treat APAC players wanting to return home as if they were being merged back from the US servers. Which means we get to bring everything, like currencies, credits, gear, strongholds & including our guilds & guild ships for free.

The only solution if you want the money from the other server there needs to be an exchange rate to preserve its actual value in the new economy you are transferring it into.

That only works if the devs also reduce the newly implemented credits sinks & price increases for repairs at the same exchange rate. If they aren’t willing to do that for APAC server, then they shouldn’t do it to the credits either. Otherwise that isn’t a fair exchange.

  5. I hardly ever post anymore. But I think this topic is important as an APAC player who lives in Australia to provide the devs feedback.

Once I can transfer all my characters & items from the US servers, I won’t ever play on them again. Which makes transferring everything I own very important to me. I won’t be a happy camper if I am forced to leave stuff behind on the old servers, including credits.

I’ve been a loyal subscriber since swtor launched on the original APAC servers. I only stopped subscribing for a total of 12 months in the 12 years of playing. I’ve spent at least $3000, if not $4000 on this game. And I believe EA, BioWare or Broadsword owe me the courtesy of transferring all my characters over for free because I was forced to transfer to the US & that includes my credits & everything else I’ve collected.

Here’s hoping this info is still being read by @JackieKo

  6. The developers seem to have done an inconsistent job of distributing the stat budget for tertiary attributes when it comes to gear pieces with Critical attribute. These attributes, stats, gearing tactics are all well understood by MM raiders. All those discussions and knowledge exchange happens on Discord. For example, it is known that the 330 Purple Rakata Earpiece is the only DPS piece with the correct value for Critical attribute.

The developers messed up and are now promising to fix it; but their list is likely incomplete when it comes to gear pieces.

But naturally the BW post - instead of apologizing for their error - makes it sound like the players don't understand what's happening

Typical Bioware, blame the players and take no responsibility for their mistakes.

What I want to know is why don’t they just bring back modded gear and admit this was a debacle.

  7. Declared purpose was to attract new audience to the game. But I can't see a single change that would serve this purpose.

But at the same time drive away dedicated legacy players with their dumb changes. It’s an Excellent business model they have going. Especially when they get less new players than those they drive away. Seems like a winning formula for success and continued development of the game. At this rate they’ll need to merge servers again in 6 months so the game feels fuller.

  8. err. This specific player is attempting to use a class that's currently underperforming in higher level content. If it's elitist to suggest "don't use x spec use y, that will give you the best chance of success" or "if switching to y spec doesn't yield the results your after try a, b, or c" then sure I'm Elitist. It's hardmode and nightmare mode content. You don't go into ranked PvP without knowing your class at a high level it's also presumed. To me, being an elitist would mean I actively go about limiting who can join lower level content runs like story mode operations, or master mode flashpoints or unranked pvp. I'm someone who has stuck with a sub optimal class before. My suggestions are what got me into the higher level raiding scenes, and furthered into nightmare content consistently. I don't claim to be anything more than an average nightmare raider. I'm not farming components level, nor do I try to be. Regardless, if any player wants to be in a higher level raiding situation being flexible with what classes they can play is ultimately a huge positive. After all, it's not about story at that point. It's about experiencing and beating the bosses. Sometimes yes Bioware take the bat to your favorite class and spec. It happens. The question is "what are you gonna do with what you still have". That's a question only the player can answer. Or they can wait for Bioware to do something about it...which let's be honest they take a very very very long time to do balancing. Why wait on the sidelines when a player wouldn't have to.

You missed the whole premise of the problem here, it’s not the players fault that Bioware have destroyed class balance or DPS output. The player shouldn’t be forced to swap combat styles or specs from what they are used to playing.

The fault is purely Biowares for causing this when they were told months ago this would happen. So when you come into a thread and blame the player, you are defending Bioware’s poor design choices.

Instead of telling the player it’s their fault or blaming them, try rewording your post as advice, while showing empathy for their situation and blame Bioware for the problem.

  9. I like to see this expansion get the drumming it deserves but that article is terrible why should anyone care?

I’ve seen 3 seperate gaming articles now and none of them paint 7.0 or the swtor Dev team in a good light. While some are better written than others, there is still a definite trend saying that 7.0 has a lot of problems and Bioware austin really dropped the ball.

What I have seen is a big uptick of brand new influencers and streamers on Twitter. People who I’ve never heard about before and some are just starting the game for the first time. It makes me question if Bioware are paying these people to promote positive views in light of all the bad social media and gaming media reviews. The timing of their appearance seems too coincidental with Keith’s posts and these new Twitter influencers.

It feels like Bioware are getting desperate and trying to plug a leaking ship. Which means things could be worse than we suspect. I’ve also seen that some swtor / Bioware staff have started to leave for other roles or other companies. Only a few at this point and I only know of ones who have announced new jobs on social media. I don’t know if that means anything or not. It’s just an observation.

  10. I think they could release the last version of 3.x before the 4.0 KotFE update and be in good shape for a "classic" server.

The last 3.x update had most of the good multiplayer updates we still have today (FPs, Ops, PVP maps), all the story updates through Ziost, the leveling experience was still similar to the 1.x model in terms of gameplay and general feel, companions still had unique animations and classes actually had their set crew instead of like 60 different ones (though roles were limited, and they needed gear), the CM already had many players' favorite sets and mounts and whatnot, Strongholds and GSF were in added by then, Togruta and Cathar species were already added, Conquest was available for those that prefer it, and many of the QoL features that made the game generally better were in place.

I think what people would miss most would be: companions using any role, though I'd happily trade that for their old unique abilities and animations back, the speed of leveling introduced after 4.0 (though the type of player that would enjoy a classic server also probably likes playing through the side quests and, generally, isn't in a hurry to level), most FPs were not role neutral and you had to spam Kuat Drive Yards and only the SoR prelude and SoR ones if seeking tactical FPs, and all the CM armors, weapons, mounts, and other items added since.

Maybe it would be possible to somehow code in all the latter into an older version of the game, and have a functional CM that adds whatever is new (since, if it ever happened, there's no way EA/BW would approve it without a CM in working order), but this sounds potentially like either a lot of work or perhaps not possible to implement. I'm not a programmer, but it doesn't seem likely that you can just separate out all the CM items from future builds and stick them in one from 2014.

Pretty certain this thread has started because longtime players genuinely miss what the game was before 7.0. Given Keith's recent post, I think folks need to read between the lines and understand, whatever it is BW is doing, veteran players aren't really a target audience going forward. You either have to accept the major changes to the game, which in many cases ended what it was for the past 10 years, or take a long break and hope for something more to your liking in the future.

I decided to look more into the versions based on the Reddit poll

After investigating more, I agree with your idea to start it in 3.x, but I would suggest the 3.3 version based on the patch notes. https://www.swtor.com/patchnotes/7222015/game-update-3.3-grand-togruta-celebration

The Reddit post also suggests version 4.7.1 as an alternative and this is more interesting for me because of the Shroud of Memory chapter and the changes to CM or 4.7.3a which was the last patch before 5.0 debacle. Here’s the patch notes https://www.swtor.com/patchnotes/972016/game-update-4.7.1-shroud-memory

  11. I just beat the Legacy of Sith "Expansion". And i was so disappointed when the credits rolled. Seriously only 3 hours of story content BioWare? This is what qualifies as an expansion and that too for the 10th anniversary of this game? You should be ashamed of yourselves. We got MMOs like ESO and FFXIV releasing actual full features expansions on a yearly basis with hours of content. This is completely unacceptable. I just could not believe it. 3 Hours!!!!!!!. They only got a skeleton crew running this game. This MMO couldve been great but it looks like Papa EA doesnt want to invest any money into it. If thats the case, im not investing any time into it either than. See ya later if ever again.

It’s cause they spent all their development funds on reinventing the wheel for the thousandth time instead of putting it towards making content. A real mismanagement of this scale started at the top and trickles down.

  12. I've been told, by people who seem to know, that the team at Bioware Austin really uninvested/don't care about this game, they hate having to deal with the creaking Frankensteinian Heroengine and most would rather be doing something else. Not sure how much to believe but having a apathetic work force rings true to me based on how the game is run and has been run.

That maybe true or not. If it is true, that’s a management problem as much as anything. If you have an unmotivated workforce, its about motivating them or getting new people who can be motivated.

  13. i thought yoshi-p was dragon quest , and was moved to final fantasy 14

If memory serves, he was on the original FF14 dev team and they moved him early in the development cycle once he’d laid out his vision and someone else took over. But the people who took over diverted too much from the plan or didn’t have the same vision and didn’t follow through. Don’t quote me on that, it’s been a few years since I watched the documentary.

  14. I'm a returning player, started with SWTOR right at launch and quit right after Class stories Chapter 3 came out (don't remember what expansion that was), had one character maxed out at Level 50 at the time, several other lower level alts, and all crew skills progressing among them all.

That’s not entirely true though because you came back to play 6.0. You’re posting history shows you were here for it.

  15. i swear mmos have some of the most close minded people that feel like any criticism or idea or request for and against their game is blasphemy and they are spiteful to boot as well.

"if u want this u hate the game stop playing :mad: "

They would rather everyone stop playing instead of catering to other demographics of players who don’t like what they like. A bit like the person who posted directly before mine here. They only chose your last sentence to quote you, which took what said completely out of context.

No one wants to stop playing. The problem is we don’t like 7.0 or parts of it and prefer earlier versions of the game. But they would rather tell us to leave the game if we dont like it instead of asking for a classic server as well as the current one.

I know people who play on both the retail wow server and the classic one. And I know people who refuse to play the retail entirely and are only subbed to play classic or vice versa. BioWare and EA could possibly earn more money by including a classic server because it would cater to people who don’t like 7.0. It would probably bring back people to play on classic who’ve left over the years.

The challenge is what version do you choose to bring back. Which version would make the most money for them. In my opinion, there’s not much point in starting it at 6.0 because that’s only 2 years ago. Better to start it at an earlier version like 2.0 and then stager release each version each year after. Any mistakes from past developed versions could be avoided along the way so all they’re really releasing is content.

BioWare could replace one US retail server with the classic one and replace the EU language servers with one classic.

  16. If I'm not mistaken FF14 suffered a near death experience at one point. BUT someone decided to turn things around, and it worked. I would also suggest that some of the "featured changes" SWTOR is experiencing right now is in order to accommodate console games (ie PS-4 and PS-5).

I refuse to believe that their team (FF-14) is the only one capable of that kind of determination and work. Granted SWTOR needs an infusion of cash and the right team motivation to make some things happen. BUT until the last chapter is written I wouldn't write this game off just yet.

It did straight after launch. There’s a documentary on it now that’s really interesting. They brought back their original FF head guy to take over and rebuild it and he’s still running it.

BioWare and EA don’t have anyone like Toshi who cares as much or has the talent. Plus they have the Japanese work ethic ground into them to try and make the customer as happy and satisfied as possible. It’s a different work culture to western style dev teams.

It’s why swtor will eventually die because EA and BioWare only care about profit and treadmill spreadsheet statistics and monetising everything. They don’t care about player enjoyment anymore or have enough pride in their work.

  17. Yeah it really seems like they aren't being given the resources to make anything of substance, certainly not anything waiting a year+ and $180+ subscription fees for. Before I always just dismissed claims of the game no longer being worked on or updated but this time I feel it too. I would love for our characters to get a proper and definitive ending before that happens but it feels like it will just be cut off mid-plot and never finished.

It’s not that they aren’t getting enough funds, it’s that they mismanage the funds they do get by reinventing the wheel constantly. They could have used the funds they got to make more content instead of reinventing the UI, the gear system, pruning class abilities and trees, which meant rebalancing content from lvl 1-80, nerfing companions into the ground.

All of their stated reasons for doing that don’t add up if you have limited funds. They said they redesigned the gearing to make it simpler and get rid of RNG. But the RNG is still as bad and it’s even more complicated to gear. All they needed to do to fix the RNG was get rid of 70% of the useless mods that dropped and allow people to buy min max mods from a vendor. RNG and complexity solved with a weeks worth of work.

None of what BioWare’s done makes any sense if they have such limited funds. People want content to play more than anything else. Why waste 12 months of development on what they did. Especially when so many hate it and it’s driven so many from the game. It’s mismanagement from the very top.

  18. there are many MMOs now that are the best atm. ffxiv, lost ark etc. the old games like this and wow are dying though

Mainly because the dev leaders of both swtor and wow are disconnected with the wider player bases needs and wants. As well as not playing their own game enough to understand any feedback back they do read. It comes across as not caring or arrogance that they know best 100% of the time.

FF14 is going gang busters and still climbing since they rebuilt the initial game and listened to the players wants and needs. It dwarfs all other MMOs now by a massive margin because the lead producer and dev team care about making the best game possible for player enjoyment. That’s why they are successful and with that success comes lots of money.

  19. I wonder too, however it's clear they are less than the whining in a defeatist loser circlej* on the forums about how "weak" companions are now :rak_03:

    .

Companions are broken if you do the hardest group mode stuff solo or in a pair. 70% of the content I could do before has been taken away with the companion Nerfs. They need to fix this or more people will leave.

  20. 3rd time I've been told they wanted more DPS than I could give to an Op because of my class... a PUG Op. Not even a chance with parse up. 2 were HM and 1 was NiM (just 1 boss). I've already completed all these Ops with this toon in lesser gear, but the people know how bad we are as a class. Saw this coming. And, yes, I'm good with my Merc... I've been playing her a very long time and always do well.

Thanks Devs. Ruined my class enough that I actually can't play the game the way I want.

Merc BTW, as if I needed to say.

This sort of behaviour was predicted as far back as the PTS when they started pruning class abilities and making people choose between needed abilities and utilities that we used to have as default.

Bioware failed again to listen to logical and reasonable feedback and they wonder why people don’t want to test for them anymore and are leaving the game.

Nearly every problem with 7,0 could have been avoided if they’d read the feedback they asked for when people volunteered to test to help make the game better.

This content release (can’t call it an expansion) is a massive failure of communication or absolute arrogance on the devs part if they did read the feedback and then blatantly ignored 99% of it.
