  1. Companies like EA have been doing this for several years now. Sad really.......
  2. All you provided is a argument with poor reasoning supported by a statistic that could also be used to say that the biggest patch during that period (with the LFG tool) coincided with the largest fall in subscriptions in WoW history. Nicely done.
  3. A fallacy if I have ever saw one. "Subscriptions went up at this approximate time so it must have been the LFG tool." Using the same logic it must have been the Lich king becoming available due it been released at the same time: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/euro-wow-lich-king-patch-tonight It also appears the population was already growing at the same rate before that patch came. Roughly four months later the patch came the subscriptions appear fall like a rock? Saying the LFG adds to population is simply baseless.
  4. Are you expecting to know the people you play with in an MMO you've never played before? It happens in the majority of groups and happens very often regardless of what MMO you play. I have played quite a few MMOs: WoW, STO, LOTRO, DCUO, GW and I can't recall witnessing 100 players in one spot in any of them. It's also quite weird and flawed way of someone to use that as part of their definition of an MMO....
  5. STO has a couple of very nice features that should be ideally in every game. The shooter controls which takes away auto targeting and gives a cursor to fire instead and the foundry where players can create their own missions (some of which are even better than Cryptics). But generally the game is lacking. It was released with one half built faction, total lack of content, repetitive and clunky gameplay and still suffers from these problems today.
  6. http://www.destructoid.com/star-wars-the-old-republic-hits-1-7-million-subscribers-220955.phtml http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2011/12/27/star-wars-the-old-republic-sales-record_n_1171028.html 700,000 subscribers gained January and a million subcribers gained in 3 days. indeed
  7. Many people are adamant that this game is in dire need of cross server LFD tool or server merges because it's apparently "dieing" or "bleeding subcribers". I have no idea which planet they are living on but it clearly isn't earth: http://www.destructoid.com/star-wars-the-old-republic-hits-1-7-million-subscribers-220955.phtml http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2011/12/27/star-wars-the-old-republic-sales-record_n_1171028.html 1 million subscribers in the first 3 days and another 700,000 gained over January. I have already given my thoughts on the LFD tool and one of the main posters in support , ferroz, has ignored the clear examples I have given of how it has led to detriment of the WoW community.
  8. I'm new to the game and just found that out today; frikking annoying.
  9. It's pretty standard for games these to forgo features and implement them later. In order to implement those many basic missing features they would have had to delay release till past Christmas and sacrifice profit. EA sacrifice profit? Not on your life. Oh EA, how I hate you.
  10. If you think that's bad you should see Morder (the nickname given by the CM to the EA UK BF3 forums)
  11. I'm assuming that would take a massive amount of work and worth an expansion in itself. I would love to see it made though but maybe not to extent to games like STO (that has 70% space and 30% land) but 70% land 30% space.
  12. I have a giving you clear examples of how LFD server tools would reduce communication but you have just outright ignored them. i.e.:
  13. - Clearly you didn't read my response to someone who suggested the same thing. - If you think easier gearing and leveling outweighs damaging the social element severely in this game "outweighing" than by all means....
  14. - Yes, it does. - Can be fixed by server merges, character transfers and server only LFG tool if needed. - that^ - what? How about the almost bloody sized essay I wrote on it?
  15. Normally I would agree with you. But this MMO is based on the most popular SC-FI IP ever.
  16. (1) Because every MMO has one except for this one (2) There are plenty of downsides, you just can't see them.
  17. Replies in red. It also helps to make the guild redundant i.e. Why would I bother asking my guild for help or possible joiners if LFG tool does it so much faster? <---- That's the kind of mentality the a cross server LFG tool brings. I do like the the greater efficiency an LFG tool brings, but not if it sacrifices a large aspect communicating with other players. It decreases the need for players to talk to each other which is a very bad idea. It helped turned WoW into a mere gear acquiring exercise and nothing more.
  18. I will just repost what I said in a different on thread on the same topic: If you want to destroy the community by turning a grouping of players in to a relationship that's merely there to serve each players greed then implement a cross server LFG tool. If you want an actual MMO that foster relationships between players then don't. If you don't want to socialize and just want to grind just for the sake of leveling and gear, then go play WoW and see what a MMO looks like with a "ME ME ME ME ME and screw everyone else" mentality. It has voided that community of any real substance.
  19. This game is for us, not for them. We pay their salaries, the development costs and ultimately give them their profits. If they continually go against the will of the community, they will suffer the consequences.
  20. I really do not want a cross-server LFG tool in this game. It damaged the social element in the WoW hugely as people just sit and wait inside cities waiting for the tool to get them the group. When they do get in a group, at most you will get is a "hi" and "bye". There is absolutely zero communications between players required for either getting a group or during the instance as everybody knows what to do and it's simple. Even some miracle happens to occur and you manage to actually socialize with another person in that group, it is futher hindered by the fact that person will most likely be on a different server. Socializing and making acquaintances/friends is just as important in an MMO in my opinion than leveling or gearing. WoW took away that element of the game by taking communication between players to an absolute minimum.
