  1. Absolutely this. I have been playing MMO's since UO, and this problem persists in every game where it's relevant. Many games have addressed this with gear, rewards, and multiple specs, and it never resolves the issue. The bottom line is most people play for fun, and tanking and healing is not fun for everyone.
  2. Google Maximum PC budget computer. You will get a lot of options. Then look for each part at different sites. newegg is actually pretty good for parts.
  3. Actually, you can only skip them when you leave the planet. When you arrive you still have to go there first.
  4. too many pages so I apologize if someone said this. While I recognize specific names are important to people, I find it hard to believe people are quitting because they cannot find alternate names. Names I have been using in MMOs for almost 20 years (started in UO) are not available, it never takes more than 2 tries to find another one. WoW had 12 mil accounts at one point, with 50 potential toons per. People still found names (some of them were bad, but...) As far as first and last names, UO had them in 1995. Last names had to be unique, but first names did not. It worked wonderfully. Why MMOs can't/don't do that now I don't understand.
  5. I have also been running Windows 8 RTM on a couple computers. I installed it on an SSD as well as SWTOR. I have seen a good increase in speed and load times, and Windows 8 is pretty solid. The New interface takes a little getting used to but once you do it is not a problem. All the negative hype is just that, it's a solid OS and is basically a performance update to Win 7. The every other version curse does not apply to Win 8.
  6. I don't get this, are you saying once you get a datacron all your tunes should have it? If that is the case, please no. This would mean new characters would potentially have 68-72+ to each stat at creation, making them slightly OP to start out. All toons should have to earn the stat bonuses gained from each datacron. Plus, Datacrons are optional.
  7. Don't be tempted, you will lose a lot more than $30.
  8. To me that isn't worth rushing to 50 for and missing the stories and the first run through for each faction. But I love the leveling process and don't really care for end game in any mmo's I have played. I've been playing them since UO.
  9. a) agree to a point, too much in-game instructions removes the immersion, but some help is useful. You should never be shy about asking for help in the forums, it's why they are here. b) there is no reward for getting to 50 in a rush. Play the game the way you want. I have been playing for 5 months and still don't have a 50. I have a 42, 2 in their 30's and the rest 20's (all classes). I take my time, do all the quests within reason, and just enjoy the story. I love all of the class stories so far.
  10. I like the noble/diplomat idea, and a non-combat (mostly) class could be fun for me, but I don't think it would win over enough people to make it worth the dev's time. However, I have always been a fan of pet classes in games, and I think it could be done, even with companions. With a pet, Presence could be the primary stat and you are not stepping on the existing classes. I haven't thought out how it could work in more detail, but I think it could be done.
  11. Well, this is 3000+ yrs in the past, maybe those sounds weren't invented yet. It would lose immersion for me if everything was unchanged (which it mostly hasn't, I know) for 3000 yrs. /sarcasm off It does seem a little weird to me that in this technologically advanced universe the technology hasn't really advanced much after all that time.
  12. We want our sniper rifles to be realistic in a game where there are lightsabers and interplanetary travel.
  13. @mphill, love the "Arsenic and Old Lace" reference in your sig, one of my favorite classic movies. As for platforms, I always stunk at those games, but I try for datacrons anyway. Some I can get after multilpe tries, some I've just given up on. For those who say they have no problems, learn to jump...good for you, you are providing no help or guidance here. Go boost your ego elsewhere.
  14. In MMO's as well as in any business, most of the customers who are happy are using the product, while most of the people who speak out are the unhappy ones. There is an old maxim in customer service, happy people will tell 1-2 friends, unhappy people will tell 10 friends. Just human nature. I agree with the OP completely, it's a fun game and a great story. I'm playing all classes, which is why I still don't have a 50 after 6 months.
  15. What's interesting is this statement could be used to describe our world or SW universe. Think George was on to something?
  16. F2P > no SWTOR I pay, and will continue to pay, as long as this game is fun for me. When it is no longer fun, I'll quit completely, price won't matter. I do not care if others choose F2p or subs, as long as it keeps the game running until I'm done with it. 7 years of WOW and I quit when I finally got bored with it. MoP does not interest me (played the beta) It's a choice.
  17. This, plus the people who are enjoying the game are mostly playing (except during server maintenance)> I suggest avoiding general chat and going to more specific categories. General chat is the same on most MMO's, whiners and complainers, who are also the minority of the population.
  18. Very well written and some great points, but it sounds like you are talking about Counter Strike. All players are the same levels with the same skills and lots of maps. 4. This is the one I disagree most with, and of course this is opinion. Leveling is the heart and soul of RPGs, whether single player or MMO. It represents the growth and learning through the experiences you encounter through your adventure. Take that away, and it it not an RPG IMO. I've been playing MMOs since UO, and have tried or played many since. 5 years on UO, 6 years on WOW, and much less on many others. I'm not sure yet how long SWTOR will last, but I am having a blast (at level 35 right now). If there was no leveling, I would not be playing. I've always loved leveling more than end game, to me that is where the meat of the game is. I had 8 lvl 85's in WOW before I quit, each a different class. I stopped playing them at 85. I would not have played it that long if there were not so many class/race/faction choices to make it interesting. An MMO without these choices will not succeed financially, because faction conflicts, class/race choices, and different leveling experiences are what keep people paying for the long haul.
  19. I'm at work and this one made me laugh. Of course, people stared.
  20. It's 20% per item. So if you do 50 RE's, it's 20% chance per item. It does not scale by the amount of attempts. It resets each time. RNG is complicated.
