  1. Hmmm… I’m sorry if I wasn’t very clear. I understand we all can’t be on one “server”. “Server” in this context is just a loose term to describe how Bioware (and many other MMO’s) split players up to prevent exactly what you mentioned. Each “server” isn’t necessarily one computer server anyway, in fact I doubt if it is. It’s just a method of load balancing. As Marak noted, it seems the correct term I am looking for here in this method of load balancing is called “sharding”. And, man, I wish MMO’s would do this. You’d think it would save them so much grief as we would lose the issue of needing server transfers. But maybe as Marak noted as well… this would also mean they can’t capitalize on future paid server transfers.
  2. Ok, before you laugh at me for being a total noob, hear me out Segregating the MMO community into “servers” causes so many issues, as we all know too well. Under-populated servers, over populated servers, some friends on one server and other friends on another server, etc. Obviously we can’t have everyone on one “server” as this creates performance issues. But why can’t something like instances be used instead? I am thinking of how Guild Wars works when I say this (not GW2, I have no idea how they set that one up). Guild Wars uses instances (not sure if that is the right term, but I’m sure you know what I mean) for each major area. When one city fills up with too many people, another instance is created. I remember seeing over a hundred instances in some cases. Their servers seemed to handle things no problem though. If you want to join your friend for some group questing, ask them what instance they are in (through in game whispers, vent, etc) and you just select that instance from a drop down box, and bam, one loading screen later, there you are. Now I know Guild Wars is very different from most MMO’s and it’s not really an all open world MMO experience, but it’s too bad the same concept apparently does not work here, and in many other MMOs. Instancing obviously still allows for server load balancing (as seen in GW), but for some reason modern day MMO’s still must shuffle everyone into servers that are, for the most part, distinct and cut off from all the other servers. The only disadvantage I found with that method with Guild Wars is that so many names were taken (as all names across the entire game of Guild Wars had to be unique to avoid name conflicts when people move from instance to instance). This is a pretty darn small price to pay, in my opinion, to be able to play with all your friends, wherever they are, and to just change to another server/instance on the fly if there are too many/not enough people on the server/instance you happen to be on at the time. I would have thought that by now, technology would allow for this in a full MMO like SWTOR. But it seems not unfortunately. My kingdom to be able to pop from server to server at will
  3. I submitted a ticket for this issue and was told Thank you for contacting us regarding an issue with companions having to re-equip the implants and earpieces just to get the stats after being unsummoned or when going on a different phase. Your case been escalated to one of our specialized teams. Please be advised that issues like the one you encountered may take some time to resolve, so for the moment we are unable to give you a firm resolution time frame. With the assistance of our specialist team, we hope to have this issue resolved for you as quickly as possible. We would ask for your continued patience while we make every effort to fix this problem for you, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will be back in contact with you once we are in a position to update you further. And I agree, this is an extremely annoying bug.
  4. I was hoping someone might know if the following will be fixed this Tuesday (tomorrow) during the normally scheduled downtime: Issue with companions having to re-equip the implants and earpieces just to get the stats after being unsummoned or when going on a different phase Issue with the GTN not showing anything for certain categories (such as implants and spaceship upgrades) unless you change the rarity level to something other than “any” These two bugs, in my opinion, are rather serious and need to be dealt with ASAP. If they won’t be fixed tomorrow… is there any kind of an update as to when they will be fixed? Thanks all!
  5. lmao! Thanks, I spewed my drink when I read that!
  6. I can deal with this (well, like I have a choice, but I won't be too terribly cranky) if this is fixed THIS coming Tuesday. If it is not, well then I will be cranky. This bug is really quite a pain. And I rarely complain on these forums... well, out loud anyway
  7. Working as intended? I think I'll try sending in a bug report too about this. Hopefully whoever responded to you was just misinformed, because if that is working as intended... Bioware, seriously now.
  8. To start off with, I am sorry, I did not read all the posts before replying... That being said... OP I ask myself the same question. Then I look at WoW, and I REALLY question just what they have done with the monthly subscription fee lately. Heck, that IS A LOT of money, even after expected expenses. Not that companies should not make money... but come on now, how about make money and, I don't know, fix bugs and release content at least semi-frequently?
  9. Hehe, oh yes my ship is decked out. I can only wish my car had all those options The one mission that really gives me grief with torpedoes (I can't remember the name, despite running it many, many, many times), is the one where you destroy shield generators on the capital ship. I can ping off 4 missiles nearly instantly at the shield generators, then focus my fire on the turrets (which blow up easily enough with guns) while my missiles take out the shield generator. Then repeat once 4 missiles are ready to go again. Using this method, I take out 3 out of 4 generators right at the start of the mission. Using the torpedoes mean I have to sit there and wait for the lock, and I lose time to shoot at turrets and everything else flying around my screen. In the meantime the screen shifts around so much, I sometimes have problems keeping the target until it locks. Other times the flyby the generators is so fast, I don't have time to even get a lock, whereas I could have easily fired off 4 missiles if I could only have used them. I actually failed this mission using torpedoes. That's when I unequipped them.
  10. I unequipped my torpedo's after trying to use them and realizing they were just making things harder. They may have their use though... the antenna array perhaps in one mission. It just would be nice if I could easily choose to override the torpedoes and switch to missiles.
  11. Because respecing can be an expensive thing, and if I know how much it at least went down between respecs (besides the once per week free respec), I could try and plan to work better with that and save myself some credits. At the very least, I would know better what costs I’m going to incur and then save up accordingly. You may be happy with vague details, but I would like more clarification, and obviously some others do as well. So we're asking for clarification. Simple as that.
  12. Figuring out the exact respec cost system, when the price shown is not the price always charged, is going to be a pain... and an expensive pain at that. Really, it's not an unreasonable request to ask for clarification on this. It never hurts to ask anyway
  13. I get the gist of the way the respec costs work, but what this thread is asking for is specifics, which I, for one, would appreciate. I waited 2 to 3 weeks to respec and my cost (after my first free respec) went way down. So how much does it go down and how often when one waits to respec again? Every week, every day? There are many more questions, as asked in this post, and all people seem to know is a vague idea as to what happens cost wise. Of course it's not a big deal not knowing for sure, but I saw this thread and, yeah, it bugs me too like it bugs the OP having such a system so undocumented.
  14. I too would like this clarified by a dev as to EXACTLY how this works (reset when?) and how the costs work. I don't respec too often, so my numbers are likely off a little, but I was up to something like 32k to respect at one point (one reset free per week, then right back to that cost and rising). Then I didn't respec for maybe 2 to 3 weeks, and even after my first free respec, I expected to be up around 40k or worse, and it was back down to like 2k. So I agree OP, this system needs to be clarified. I've searched the forums too before on this, and all I could find was much speculation.
  15. This. But at least in the meantime cursorlock does the job.
  16. I run a system temp monitor program on the 2nd monitor. I also use it to display vent so I can see who is talking (helps me to put someone's voice to their character name).
  17. I'll have to give cursor lock a try. Thanks AnariussX. I am curious though, can this not be programmed into the game itself, meaning can a program not be made so that the mouse can not leave the screen unless alt-tabbed? I'm sure WoW worked this way in full screen mode. If so, then hopefully Bioware may consider fixing this... someday
  18. This issue has plagued me as well. Real pain in the butt, when in the middle of a battle, my screen loses focus and is minimized because I clicked slightly too far to the right. I don't have SLI or Crossfire though... I just have the one video card running two monitors, so I don' think this is the issue. This is not a problem for me in WoW (at least it wasn't 3 months ago when I last played. I'm unsubbed now so unfortunately I can't double check this). WoW just would not let me click off the screen. I would have to alt-tab to minimize if first. This is how I expect it to work. And yeah, I don't want to run fullscreen (windowed), I want to run fullscreen for the reasons the OP already said a number of times.
  19. Alternatively, you can use Google and limit the search to the forums. So to search for, say, "Galactic Trade Network" you would use the following in Google: site:http://www.swtor.com/community galactic trade network That way you don't need to log in first and you don't need to rely on the forum's search feature working (or not).
