  1. I like the Inquisitor as a character/personality more than I like the storyline. It starts out very good, the early levels (especially on Korriban) do a great job in setting you up for a mindset of an evil maniac (unrelated, but for the life of me I can't imagine a LS Inquisitor... Warrior - maybe, they work better as characters when they're not full DS, but the Inquisitor is an unrepentant villain in my eyes). The overall idea of you climbing from the very bottom to the top of the Empire is actually pretty sweet, and there are certain moments that are quite memorable. The execution is lacking, though. Thanaton is such a mediocre antagonist - even though, again, the idea of a die-hard traditionalist opposing the "new blood" is not bad at all, it's just done in a very underwhelming manner. Zash was somewhat better, and is very memorable, but after a certain point she's more or less irrelevant except as a plot device to give you info. I also found the ghostbusters stuff to be rather silly, to be honest. The companions are ok, better than the Smuggler's or the Bounty Hunter's, but nothing really special. Khem Val and Xalek are cool, Talos is alright, but Andronikos is a boring badas* wannabe and Ashara pales in comparison to the Warrior's Jaesa. Overall it's not a terrible story, I didn't hate it, but unfortunately it's a great idea with merely an "ok" execution.
  2. I started noticing it much earlier. Arcann is not really an impressive bad guy. He started out good, with the KOTFE cinematic intro and the first few chapters, but yeah - for a while now he's just sitting on his *** and does nothing against us. I think that Valkoarian is the real big bad of this story, so I guess that from a storytelling perspective his kids just keep his seat warm until his schemes come to bear fruit.
  3. This is one of those questions that everyone has a different answer to. KOTFE is built in such a way, with it's "one size fits all" story, that it's nearly impossible to have a definitive canon class. In MY personal opinion, the classes that work best are those that have a pre-existing personal connection with Vitiate/Valkorian. So either Jedi Knight or Sith Warrior. Both work very well because thanks to their backstories (i.e. the "Vanilla" SWTOR's class stories) the player gets the feeling of a "built-upon" KOTFE. The Knight was the Emperor's archenemy, so that's an almost perfect fit to continue in KOTFE, and the Warrior was his personal executioner who decided to turn against him which also works pretty sweet as a narrative. Those things enrich the story of KOTFE for me, but it's still mostly a matter of personal opinion.
  4. Maybe she remembers her adoptive mother rather than Padme? Besides, there is no way that a newborn can remember what its mother looked like when she dies literally a few minutes after the birth.
  5. I'm not Codedrago, and I don't know what evidence can be provided other than direct quotes or videos which... yeah, not gonna happen, but it is true that there is a dichotomy between what the supposed archetypes of the Inquisitor and the Warriors are, and what we have in the game. As in, the Inquisitor is someone you would expect to be the more cunning and manipulative one, but throughout their story they always deal with their problems very bluntly, unsophisticatedly and straightforwardly, usually by using nothing but raw power - that's applicable to anything from solving a puzzle in a Sith tomb by blasting it with lightning to facing Darth Thanaton in the Kaggath. I wouldn't go as far as to call the Inquisitor "mindless" but their way of doing things IS brute-like. The Warrior has, generally, more room to be a Machiavellian type if the player so chooses, like manipulating Darth Baras' enemies to turn on each other in an early quest on Dromund Kaas or the whole thing where they VERY methodically engineer Jaesa's fall to the Dark Side and Nomen Karr's destruction.
  6. Basically, any species apart from Sith Pureblood and Chiss are ok for any Republic class lore-wise. Of course, everybody has a different idea for their characters, but from a lore perspective the Republic is generally without any segregation (other than financial one). A Jedi can be anything from a human to an Ithorian, same for a Smuggler. The military might have stricter rules about what species can fit best with what position based on their innate strengths and weaknesses, but they won't turn anyone away based on their species. For the Empire, the Sith Warrior can be only a Sith Pureblood or a human, because the Warriors come from a privileged background, and those two species are the only privileged ones in the Empire. The Inquisitor has more leeway because they are slaves at the beginning, so an alien species like a Twi'lek or a Togruta wouldn't be completely out of the question; based on their story, I'd say that even a Sith Pureblood works despite them being venerated because the Inquisitor's ancestors have fallen out of grace long ago, during the semi-legendary times of Tulak Hord, so one can imagine them coming from Pureblood stock that has fallen on hard times - the Empire's society is callous enough to allow it. The Bounty Hunter can be anything, much like a Smuggler. The Agent is most likely human, though Chiss works too.
  7. While there's certainly a lot of truth to that, our characters' personalities are all, to a certain degree, defined by their "jobs". Sure, we can choose how nice or evil they are, whether they have a sense a humor or not, which companions they get along with etc. but there are still archetypes behind them, and some of those archetypes fit the Alliance commander role better than others (even if we don't factor in the personal connection to Valkorian that only some classes have in-story).
  8. This will hit mainly people who are here for the roleplaying, I think. Though I can imagine it now, running around and seeing folks with a name with a space in between - essentially two names, followed by a Legacy surname, followed by some overly long title like "Republic Privateer" or "Paladin of House Organa", or "Master of Hidden Knowledge" Would look ridiculous
  9. Your characters won't be deleted, your account will become Preferred which will allow you to still play the game but with some restrictions like being able to play with only 2 active characters of your choosing at a time (the rest are still preserved but not accessible for Preferred and Free players), you will have a max credit cap of 350 000, won't be able to play in as much Warzones, Operations, Flashpoints and stuff, some limited quality of life features like not being able to hide your helmet, or color match your gear etc. Oh, and you have to be a subscriber to play through the KOTFE expansion. But your characters won't be deleted and you can still play whenever you feel like it.
  10. I hear ya. I'm the same with my Sith Warrior Truth is, if one wants to, they can find a way to justify everything about their character's story, and the game is built in such a way that it absolutely allows and even encourages it.
  11. Yeah, I remember I was a bit confused and panicked back when I began playing it, but you get them back over the course of the first few quests on Darth Marr's ship. I think the point was to ease back into the game any players who might have been gone for a while, not to intimidate them with a ton of abilities they might have forgotten how to utilize properly at once or something.
  12. For the mirror classes I always choose the opposite advanced class - I have a Juggernaut (my main character) and so when I rolled a Knight alt, I made him a Sentinel just so I'd have a different experience gameplay-wise. But if you're adamant that you don't want to dual wield, why not choose a different specialization? Like, if your Guardian is a tank, make your Juggernaut a DPS or vice-versa. It won't be as different as the opposite advanced class, but it will offer you some variety in terms of skills and play style.
  13. I'd argue for a Sith Warrior as well, they also have history with the Emperor that could work well with a narrative, but yes, the Jedi Knight has been the Emperor's archenemy since the launch of the game. Any of the other classes work more like a "ok, guys, this is a huge threat that we have to take down" thing story-wise, but the JK and the SW have that personal archenemy/former servant-turned enemy flavor to it that enriches the experience.
  14. I think everything aside from the films, the CGI TV shows and maybe a select novel or two has been rendered non-canon, but don't quote me on that, I'm not 100 % sure. They call all those non-canon stories Legends now, or something - at least that's how they're divided on Wookiepedia.
  15. He grumbles about it even if the Smuggler is female, if memory serves me right. Anyways, I never found Corso to be especially creepy, just very, very annoying. I was so relieved when I got the second companion (can't remember if it was Bowdaar or Risha, think it was Bowdaar but I played through the Smuggler story long ago, and memory ain't what it used to be ), because it meant that I could get rid of Corso at once. Haven't played with him ever since apart from his companion missions. I know it's unrelated, but the male companion I've found creepy so far is the Consular's Tharan Cedrax. Though I've managed to find some humor in his creepiness to amuse myself with.
  16. It depends a lot on the genre we're talking about. I assume that since we're on a forum about a Star Wars video game, that the genres we're speaking of are sci-fi and/or fantasy. In general I think that when you're dealing with a fictional universe you have to have some idea about its worldbuilding, but the plot, and the characters with their story arcs should come first. George R.R. Martin, the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, has said that a lot of the lore that is mentioned briefly in his books is just "smoke and mirrors", as in - a few cool sentences or allusions to fictional events here and there, in order to give the world some flavor and substance but nothing more. Of course, that same guy later released a huge encyclopedia about his fictional universe, so... But let's not forget that an enormous chunk of Star Wars' lore came from the EU novels, games, comics and the like - not from the films themselves. And if we're talking about a work of fiction that does not deal with a fictional universe, like a crime or a love story, how much "lore" do you really need? It's all relative.
  17. That's something I'd totally buy, as long as it's not worth an arm and a leg...
  18. What must be taken into account is that we're dealing with an MMO. Generally it's easier to make a singleplayer game where your choices affect everything and everyone because, well, only one person goes through it. How can we possibly change the history and/or the shape of the Galaxy here when thousands of other players have to continue to exist and have their adventures in that same Galaxy all the time? We can't really blow up Nar Shaddaa, for example, or destroy the Sith Empire or whatever, not in an MMO. I also do not want a situation where my only KOTFE playable character suffers a permadeath (I think that's out of the question, but I still want to address the issue). I've made that Sith Warrior four years ago, I led him through his class story and all the expansions. I've invested time, effort and emotion into that character. If he dies forever at the end of KOTFE, why would I want to play SWTOR ever again? For my alts? Sure, I'm attached to them as well, but I doubt I'd have the desire to go through everything all over again. I would welcome choices about our companions' fates, as that would raise the stakes, especially for those who have romances with them. Maybe choices that would decide Zakuul's fate (but again, how do you account for that in an MMO? If, for example, you would get a final choice about whether you would destroy or save Zakuul, how can those two possibilities be reconciled between everyone who plays through that story arc? The only way I can think of is that regardless of the choice we never visit and see Zakuul again, but isn't that exactly the type of meaningless choice that people are often unhappy about?). This thing about choices that matter reminds me of Life is Strange. In that game (it's similar to Telltale's games in terms of gameplay and the episodic structure) you're getting told all the time that your choices matter very much, and at first it seems so. Then you get to the end and... you find that in your final choice you either It's still a good story, IMO, but the whole thing with the choices was damn misleading.
  19. From the Republic side, I would suggest either Jedi Knight or Trooper (granted, Havoc is more of a special ops thing, but the Trooper is still, y'know, in the military unlike anyone else). The Smuggler is not cut out for a military commander, although it could be sort of justified because he/she has a sizable influence in the criminal underworld so he/she would know this and that about dealing with people and sticky situations. I have no idea about the Jedi Consular, I haven't finished the story yet, but so far he/she seems more like a diplomat and a healer to me, although the Order did bestow him/her the title of Barsen'thor, so there's that. From the Empire side, the obvious answer is a Sith Warrior. The Inquisitor would also be more or less fitting for the job, because they know how to manage and build a powerbase. The Agent, similarly to the Jedi Consular, I can't say cause I've not finished the story and so I don't know how far he/she can go, but so far their position and capabilities seem to lay elsewhere. The Bounty Hunter strikes me as a loner, and even though he/she is supposed to be one of the greatest warriors in the Galaxy, I can't see them spearheading a whole organization aside from their few friends and maybe a bunch of Mandalorians. That's all in terms of a base commander. KOTFE still has a very specific storyarc and even though it's made to be available to any class, I personally would think that it's perfectly suited only for a Sith Warrior and a Jedi Knight because they are literally the only ones who have a deeper, pre-existing bond with Valkorian/Vitiate and that makes the whole thing better; I mean, sure, the others can be shoehorned in, and the threat is big enough to warrant it, but the story is not as personal this way.
  20. These trenchcoats could work for a pirate look, if dyed in some shade of red. I did this for Andronikos because I wanted to make a pirate-y outfit for him. I can't think of anything else in the game that would resemble a pirate coat more, and we don't have something simpler that could pass for a sailor's shirt or something. There are armors on Rishi that could fit right in there with a pirate look, including a tricorne hat and a pair of pirate-y boots, but you probably know that already. The chest doesn't look pirate enough to me, though.
  21. In terms of story, it's hit-and-miss a bit. Some classes have a fantastic story, others - not so much. Generally all eight of them tend to have an interesting beginning and early adventures, boring middle and the ending is either pretty sweet or just ok. Standing on its own, no single class story can be compared to a full campaign of a singleplayer game, but I do give BW cookie points for making 8 of them. When looked as a whole entity, I don't think that SWTOR is any worse than any game of the Dragon Age series in terms of story, but will never be as sweepingly epic as Mass Effect. It's difficult to judge KOTOR, because it's considered a classic now. Some are, some aren't. Generally every class has at least one or two interesting ones, but also at least one who is bland or forgettable. I like the system as a whole, and I also like that overall every class has a diverse crew in terms of personalities. Nothing can beat Mass Effect 2 in terms of companions, but I do have a special place in my heart for a few of them. In my opinion, yes. It's different, and the MMO aspect of the gameplay can't be fully ignored, even in when playing solo, but even so in my eyes it's very much a worthy KOTOR sequel. Sure. Though it's a bit simplistic, it's still pleasant to play. Generally, the game is pretty easy now. Whether that's good or bad depends on what you want - on one hand, there is no real challenge when you're just questing on a random planet. Yesterday I was finishing with an Inquisitor's story on Corellia and I was initially underleveled by a relatively large margin (lvl 44 when I landed, the planet seemingly requires lvl 47) - I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever killing mobs and doing quests. Like, couldn't even notice that I was 3 levels behind. Like I said, sure, that means that there's no real challenge to it these days. It also means that the game is very, very accessible and everyone can play through the core experience without any hassle. If it were up to me, I'd up the overall difficulty, but not enormously so.
  22. To buy the Exterminator set. I needed only the chest piece for Xalek in order to make a nice, Sith-y look for him. Combined it with some nice boots and Triumvirate leggings, as well as one of the Security Key customizations where he's without the lame hood he usually wears. The result was wonderful, and much easier than trying to scrounge the few million credits this piece was worth on the GTN the last time I checked.
  23. Server name: Red Eclipse Character name: Ignavia I got this bug today as well. I have the conversation, then it stays in the quest log with no description and no prompt to finish it.
  24. Okay, I got the email and the code, but... and please don't make fun of me, but where do I input it in order to get the coins? ETA: nevermind, I got it. And feel really stupud
  25. Those are viable ideas on paper, but the problem is that Valkorian is immensely powerful. The ghosts inside the Inquisitor's head really, really pale in comparison. I very much doubt that he would allow us to do something so... simplistic. I think we need to see more of the KOTFE story to get a firmer idea on how that whole thing works. So far I got the unpleasant feeling that all of this is just a game to him.
