  1. This. I would maintain if I started the game today, i could entertain myself on leveling and story content alone, for a year or more. I think Bioware knows this and caters to new players willing to pay for that time, at the sacrifice of veterans. That seems to be their business model.
  2. I just unsubscribed, maybe a month left on my subscription. I joined right around launch. Here are my top 5 reasons for leaving as a subscriber: 1. KOTFE focus on single player "story", rather than group content. I only have 4 toons, but get bored to death playing through the story on each one. The KOTFE story is way too easy and I don't feel my characters advance- just things happen with a scripted story largely about NPCs, not my characters. 2. No new group content in 2 years. No new ops, and an announced expansion that still seems single-player focused. 3. Largely because of 2. above, raiding guilds have died. This has a lot of impact on other elements of the game. For example, now no reason to do Conquest. There are few people left to help out newer players interested in raiding or improbing their character's abilities. The vibrant community of theory crafters and rotation gurus has disappeared. 4. A lack of endgame content. Once your character hits 65, what to do? Everyone is tired of the same old ops and HM flashpoints that give so little reward. I will say the leveling experience from 1 to 65 is superb, the story is great for each class (that I played anyways), but you can only do that so many times before boredom sets in. 5. It's just not as fun as it used to be. When that happens, it's a good time for a break.

    Farewell

OP here. Thanks for all the kind and illuminating responses. I'll stick around as Preferred (or whatever they call it now) for a bit and see if content ever comes back that makes me want to resubscribe. I will say that I thought the ops put in the game are a lot of fun, and challenging at the HM level. But the reality is Bioware/EA focus on the money stream- which is the cartel market and players new to SWTOR. New ops probably cost more than what they get back.

    Farewell

It's hard to believe, but I finally decided to unsubscribe. I have been a member since launch. I would like to thank anyone who ever posted a positive, helpful comment on the forums. I know I benefited from them, and hope whatever posts I made helped others out. We all have our reasons for leaving; mine is that I want a game with a healthy operations community and fun, challenging operations for endgame content. Since KOTFE, I have seen the guilds I was in slowly die off as operations stagnated. I don't see this trend reversing in the short or long term, barring some change in direction from EA/Bioware, so best to move on. I will say I got my money's worth as a monthly subscriber and immensely enjoyed the leveling and endgame experience through Shadow of Revan. Thanks again, to everyone who posted!
  5. I1. Good I2. It was ok, kept interest up. But I would prefer all content at once. I realize that means longer time for release. I3. Best: Can't think of anything really. The story was meh. Worst: endless, pointless and unavoidable running around killing sky troopers. II.1 I don't like bolster. Too many inexperienced and clueless noobs participate in operations without cutting teeth on prior ops. II.2 more II.3. I think NM ops are always hard. The problem is ops are boring now since there haven't been new ones in a while. III. No comment, do not PVP. IV. Don't do heroic missions, no comment. V. I think overall crafting is simpler, but crafing gear is pointless. VI. Only did Star fortress once on one toon. Too repetitive. It should be part of GF. VII. Indifferent to level sync. VIII. Alliance specialists are kind of worthless. Too repetitive bringing crates back, just to get influence takes way too long. What is the benefit? Maybe make locked crates a reward for ops or GF ops. IX.1. Good. IX.2 similar IX.3 bad, but not in a terrible way. Just makes dialogs pointless. IX.4 less IX.5 No opinion IX.6 Bad. get too much gear that can't be used. IX.7 same IX.8 I like ability to have any companion. X. Since guild are effectively dead, I haven't paid attention to conquest. I think strongholds are pretty much a waste of time. XI. I rarely participate in events. Rakghoul plague needs to go away, so annoying. XII. Did not participate. Not starting a new toon at level 0. Heck, didn't even create new free toon. XIII. Most of the monthly rewards are worthless. What would a Jedi or Sith do with pistols? XIV.1. 10. If there aren't new ops, I will be done with the game. Not enough endgame to keep me interested at this point. There has to be some challenge left in the game and FPs/story quests aren't it. During KOtFE, everyone got at least HM gear. They need to figure something else out as rewards.
  6. To each his or her own. I haven't played a flashpoint in years and prefer casual to HM ops. I enjoyed the stories when leveling but, If the game heads in a direction that is all PVE with mind-numbing ease and long cutscenes (like KotFE) I will be done. And I am by no means an elite raider. I am average at best. I like a mix of PVE and ops.
  7. For me, it would be story that culminates in ops that are repeatable, much like SoR and the Dread Masters. I don't need a story as long or as repetitive as KoTFE, maybe half the length with ops afterwards.
  8. I've been around since the beginning but am pretty sure I'll be departing as a subscriber by end of year, For me, it's the lack of new group content. The guilds I was in have largely atrophied due to the lack of new ops and/or group challenges. I was almost a guarantee for a couple of hours a night after work on SWTOR, but lately it's been more logging in once a week, looking for (and failing to find) HM Opd PUGs, and logging off. I like raiding, and it just hasn't been happening much since KotFE. I guess I could change my mind if the next installment has ops and group content challenges. It's been a great game and I won't bash it, but as they say, sometimes it's time to move on if it's not your thing anymore.
  9. Best moment? HK-55: Are We. There. Yet! Had me cracking up.
  10. Spot on comment. I didn't care much for this chapter. Arcann and Vaylin have to be the most inept leadership in all of Star Wars if they let a droid usurp them as Emperor and High Inquisitor. I was hoping the betrayal would be from someone else on the team- that would have been more shocking. Someone like Lana or Theron selling out to Arcann, for example, could have made more compelling drama. Scorpio was WAY too predictable. Imagine the possibilities of an angry Scorpio thwarted by an inside team member.
  11. Long time ago, probably 2 years ago...was in an EV operation at Soa. A bunch of us were new. The tank gave instructions on the fight and put an icon over his head. He said "everyone follow the icon no matter what! Follow me and don't be a noob! Follow me and we'll get to the floor". We started fighting SOA, the floor fell out, and someone died for some reason. Very quickly afterwards, the tank ran off a ledge into the void. Every single player followed him to their deaths. The guy who died first said it was a scream watching us fall off like lemmings. Afterwards, the tank laughed it off and congratulated us all on our loyally following orders.
  12. I agree with a lot of your points. While I don't mind the KOTFE stories, it can be very repetitive to do them on multiple toons. And I feel we have way too many companions and/or auxiliary companions. It's a horrific grind to get their influence levels up. I am what I would call a moderate Ops runner. I will do SM and HM ops, likely never NM ops. The state of the game right now for me is I want to run HM ops and gear out my toons in 220/224 pieces. But I find, ever since KOTFE came out, that hardly any one runs HM ops. The guilds I was in have lost their highly skilled players. Most people who were pretty good ops runners have become bored and have left the game. Nowadays, the only HM ops you can pug are KP and EV, and even then, there are people showing up who are absolutely clueless on mechanics. It's just not as fun as it used to be. If there were fresher ops, I think people would come back, but there isn't a sign of that happening in 2016.
  13. I was in a PUG KP HM op a couple of weeks ago. The tank assigned to the puzzle boss. I was one of the DPS, a healer, and another newb DPS. Tank and healer fully explain puzzle and say practice. Noob DPS just can't get it. Even when told press now, did nothing. Tank came up and showed how it was done with three pushing buttons, told DPS to watch the pattern. Tank goes back down. Practice again, DPS fails miserably again randomly pushing button or not pushing at all. Tank and healer AGAIN very patiently explain. Fail again. DPS stops talking in chat, by now almost a half hour has gone by. Showed him again. Tank: Get it now? Noob DPS: "no, this is just too hard I can't possibly do it. I just don't get it." A half hour....seriously it's not THAT HARD. You can guess what happened next: rage quits. It seems nowadays people jump into HM ops without a clue. When told to read Dulfy, usually the response is "what's Dulfy?"
  14. I went through this as my bounty hunter and warrior. I thought the chapter was about the right length and I appreciated the Vette and Gault humor. I made the same choice for the situation that comes up at the end. Details below with a question.
  15. I run SWTOR on a Surface Pro 3. It runs fine, but I only use this rig when I am traveling, and rarely use it for ops, only PVE. One issue I do note is the SP3 can run very hot when the processor is taxed. I think I might enjoy SWTOR using the Surface Pro 3 more if it were hooked up to a bigger monitor. I also find if I run it at anything other than the default resolution that the game is unplayable. I suspect the Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book (with graphics card in keyboard) would perform much better.
  16. There's also the BH line when on (I think) Alderaan you help out the girl who doesn't want to get betrothed to some lardass. I forget the exact lines, but they include something like "Out of here Tubby", with the BH throwing the chubster out the door.
  17. Well I was pleasantly surprised with the upgrade from Windows 7. I have an old machine, a Mac Pro from 2008 that I upgraded the processors and video card on. I was normally getting around 30 fps tops in SWTOR, less on the fleet. Last night after upgrade to Windoes 10, I was getting around 5o fps. I hope this lasts.
  18. My $0.02, you're not missing much. Limited dialog, just another companion for you to spend time getting influence with. Heck, unless you are of the right class, you can't even use the blasters given as a separate reward.
  19. Subjective opinion here: it didn't change much when I upgraded from an HDD to a Samsung SSD drive. The SWTOR loading times are similar, MAYBE slightly faster. Part of the subjectivity is from my system being fairly old and the processor is likely the main impediment. (I run SWTOR on a Mac booting Windows 7, quad core Clovertown processors, and 16GB RAM, Radeon 6550? series video card). I found going from the stock Woodcrest dual core processors to Clovertown had a bigger impact on gameplay. My next computer will be home built and optimized for gaming.
  20. I just hope Bioware realizes their mistake in Chapter 10, and allows us to "decline" allies. As many have said, it doesn't make a lot of sense to trust Kaliyo and bring her in to the alliance, except possibly an agent, as the agent at least has a history with her. Personally, even on my merc, I wouldn't hesitate to blow Skadge out of an airlock if I had the choice. He adds nothing as a companion and is nothing but an irritation.
  21. My take, as a casual player who is now tackling HM operations, is that the SM operations have been nerfed to the point where mechanics can be largely ignored by most new players, assuming they have competent raid partners who know the fights. They don't even seem to read Dulfy or become knowledgeable ahead of time. Their partners carry them and they just don't learn. Last night, I was in a PUG on my healer, where we wiped twice to Draxus because the three newbies didn't understand even the most basic ideas, like interrupting corrupters and prioritizing killing them. Or not standing in front of adds that have cleaves, etc. People were patient explaining the fight to them but they just did not get it. I don't think they even knew what an interrupt was. I always wondered if it were practical to have an ops training mode where the player has to successfully defeat a boss, or boss surrogate, one that forces them to learn mechanics to advance. The training mode would be role specific (healer, tank, dps). Only after defeating this boss would the player be eligible to queue for the op. Probably just a crazy idea.
  22. KOTFE, story, when the ship is travelling to some planet and all the companions are bickering: HK-55: "Interrogative: Are. We. There. Yet?" The tone in his voice is priceless.
  23. Nothing surprises me anymore. The other night I was in a raid (DF, I think) on my marauder. The other marauder in the group whispers me, "should I be using Juyo?" I asked him what spec he was, and he was clueless. He didn't know whether he should be in Juyo or Ataru, and didn't know the differences between carnage and annihilation. He was a Level 65. I wish I could have seen his toolbar setup. I can't imagine what his rotation was like, he certainly wasn't putting out any dps.
  24. I have the mid-range Surface Pro 3 with i5 processor., upgraded to Windows 10. SWTOR runs fine, I have done PVE on it but I wouldn't recommend it for raiding. It's possible if I had an external monitor it might be OK. The unit can get really hot running SWTOR. I typically get about 40FPS on fleet. There is a glitch where I can't seem to run on anything except the default resolution. Using anything else forces the machine into a weird resolution where SWTOR is unplayable.
  25. Debating, currently have assassin (decep), marauder, agent (medic), merc (arsenal). Also have a Knight (Guardian) but despire Republic side...I will likely role an assassin (tank) or a sorc healer.
