  1. Does anyone know if they've said anything about needing to do the achievements again on other servers/legacies or if you can transfer a character from one legacy where it's completed to another legacy and have the DvL stuff apply in the mail? I'm guessing not, but I'm curious. I've completed every rank save Legendary on Bergeren Colony, but I've had thoughts about getting at least Eternal done on Ebon Hawk should my old guild ever get back together and give me a reason to play on EH (plus my brother still has his PCs there as it is). So I'm wondering if I have to repeat all of the DvL stuff on Ebon and if it's been confirmed as necessary.
  2. I only did the opening scene for FA Part 1 and didn't do the FP, but I see nothing on my ship to activate solo mode?
  3. Most likely it'll be considered to be such a long expanse of time that any events can be done without being considered to screw with the rest of the Legends continuity. They have pretty much the next fifteen hundred years to settle the war after all, they don't really need to rush anything in the reasonable time frame of this game to fit anything in continuity.
  4. Are you seriously arguing that the open practice of slavery and totalitarian machinery by the Empire is anywhere in the same scope as corruption in the ranks of a society where it is officially illegal? I mean, you could argue the modern United States practices slavery because of the demand for and treatment of illegal immigrants in some places, things like foreign girls being brought here to be forced into prostitution, etc, but the actions of corrupt officials and criminal organizations doesn't make us the same thing as the Confederacy and antebellum South where slavery was legal. This "Oh but the Republic is bad too!" counter-argument is laughably weak. It's a petty evasion since I'm not saying the Republic is the land of flowing milk and honey. I'm saying the Empire is a totalitarian nightmare built on slavery, torture, and brutality, where the vast majority of its population lives a nightmare existence where every facet of their existence is under constant threat of being taken from them by the whimsy of a Sith, even their lives. A vast horrific edifice built to turn the galaxy into the personal preserve of people corrupted by dark power. You want to address that argument, you talk about the Empire. The claim that the Empire has shed its worst elements as going over to the Dread Masters, for instance. I'm highly skeptical. Has the Empire outright ended slavery? Disavowed torture? Granted even the slightest shreds of legal protections for non-Sith (not counting the feudalistic protections of "I'm under Darth Malleus' command, you can't harm me without offending him")? Losing a few lunatics does not make the Empire any less of a totalitarian nightmare. I mean... some people like playing the bad guys. Fine. I've played the four Imperial class stories myself. I enjoyed most of them (save the SIth Inquisitor one) as interesting stories. All I want is for people to stop whitewashing the Sith Empire.
  5. Oh, the Republic is a bloated oligarchical headache of an organization. But when you look at their opposition, well, even the Republic's biggest flaws sort of pale in comparison to an empire that openly and happily practices slavery, torture, and mass murder and which is dedicated to turning the entire galaxy into chattel for an organization of bloodthirsty lunatics with superpowers who can kill on whim (as seen in at least three occasions in Empire-side stories). It's like comparing Victorian Great Britain to Nazi Germany; the former were oligarchical imperialists who were hardly democratic in spirit who ruled a worldwide empire made up mostly of people they considered racially and culturally inferior, but the latter were well... let's just sum it up with "monsters incarnate". So, yeah, I take the Republic, warts and all, over the Empire every day of the week without hesitation.
  6. IIRC, what happens is that sometime in the next hundred years, the Sith Empire will be utterly destroyed as an institution, Dromund Kaas abandoned and the worlds of the Sith Empire absorbed into the Republic. Then in about 1600 years, sometime around 2000BBY (the game is 3642BBY I believe?), some angsty dark side-leaning Jedi finds an old Sith holocron and the entire thing starts up again, leading to what is essentially the Galactic Dark Age (seen near its tail end with the Knight Errant comics around Kerra Holt and then the Darth Bane novels) in which the Jedi ended up virtually running the Republic. Then that group of Sith finally goes down at Ruusan, we have the Ruusan Reformations (thus Palpatine's comment about the Republic being around for a thousand years, IIRC this storyline development was explicitly done to explain that time frame versus the older one claiming the Jedi guarded the Republic for "a thousand generations", aka about 25,000-30,000 years), and Bane establishes the Rule of Two and the long term plan to destroy the Jedi which virtually succeeded. Save, of course, for Obi-Wan and eventually Luke Skywalker. That is the tricky part of this story, since we know the Republic wins in the end. OTOH, that makes it more important to focus on the characters. We know the Republic will win eventually, but if we truly care about people like Satele, Marr, Keeper, Chancellor Saresh, etc... then there is still drama from the uncertainty about their fates. Hence the value of having the war shift around. At least from a narrative perspective; from a personal one, expunging the sadistic, totalitarian nightmare of the Sith Empire from the face of the galaxy is something I would enjoy immensely.
  7. But if the problem is "Republic PvP sucks", it sounds like more than "people playing both factions". It sounds like "the vast majority of the good PvPers focus on their Imperial characters and curbstomp Republic to the point that there's no challenge in it, as all good Pub PvPers either A) quit or B) roll Imp side".
  8. Has anyone guessed the makeup of Imp-side-only PvPers versus Pub-side? As in only seriously PvPing on Imp side or Pub side, not counting getting a quick daily in here and there on Pub-side, or vice versa? It sounds like it's become seriously imbalanced in favor of Imp side.
  9. Good rule. I still remember when everyone assumed ops and scoundrels were port-hacking when RotHC launched, and it was all because of the new roll ability and the fact that sometimes the animation didn't fully play. Alas, we are approaching Thread Derailment territory, so let's get this back on track; making Republic PvP competitive.
  10. Interesting how much PVP changed, back when I played before Republic did a bit better with Game Genie, Zen, and Azure Blades around as well. And Scrub Squad. From what I can tell, they all left or you all decided to roll Imperial for PvP because Imperial side is seen as the PvP faction. Imp = PvP side continues to intrigue me. As for reviving Republic-side PvP, for all that people are talking about showing tough love, not showing mercy, forcing players to "Learn" by kicking their asses repeatedly..... people only allow themselves so much kicking. If you constantly and relentlessly crush the PvP newbies then I suspect the majority of them will say "to hell with this" and stop PvPing. Maybe not a loss in some cases, since a good PvPer has to know how to lose and the ones who give up quickly clearly don't know how, but you're also going to drive out players who would stick it out if they thought they had a chance at competing instead of being ripped apart over and over until they feel there's no fun in it and never ever come back. I'm not saying don't go for that three cap, just remember that playing hardcore and treating every PUG like a premade is going to have consequences like that. As for fixes... aside from PvPers playing Republic side too and the current efforts to educate Pub-side PvP, there's not much else that can be done, I think. It's possible it may never quite shift, Republic-side culture might simply be incompatible with the attitudes necessary for super-competitive PvP.
  11. Yes, for SCIENCE! Well, actually it was me being sarcastic about having a Bounty Hunter doing just that.
  12. So.....how precisely does one shoot through the second set of forcefields in Voidstar to prevent people from using the forcefield controls?
  13. I think everyone agrees here, it's just the semantical terms. Silver demanded that Trigger not refer to his character as a "republic Mandalorian" when Trigger has admitted the character stands against the majority of Mandalorians in a belief that the current Mandalore is an usurper. This entire argument seems to stem from what his character should be referred to OOC.
  14. So... wait. I'm supposed to ragequit whenever I see certain guild names in red? ....I so need to check my memos more often.
  15. And it's not just this thread.... *looks at PvP server transfer thread* Someone dragged it over there as well. Listen, your argument is clear, it is logical, it is perfectly fine, but it has one underlying element: it presumes that someone cannot consider a Mandalore to be illegitimate or an usurper. And actually... I think I can see the logic there too, having recently read the KOTOR comic and the flashback elements about Exar Kun's forces killing the Mandalore of the time and forcing the Mandalorians to fight for him with a puppet Mandalore. Granted, if any jerk can kill the reigning Mandalore and force Mandalorians to support evil psychopaths in bringing chaos, despair, and misery to the galaxy.... I'm not so sure the Mandalorians are worthy of my respect or consideration. ....then again, we see in some PVE content that Mandalorians engage in wanton thuggery, cruelty, and slave-trading, and then there's what they did to the Cathar (and thus providing the origin for Revan's mask).... so maybe they're not so noble after all.
  16. What it boils down to is that the OP can call his character what he likes. You made your argument for why you think he shouldn't. He rejected it. That's all you can do, continuing to bash on him is just riling things up.
  17. I'm not entirely either, but I think I get the gist of the issue; a cornerstone of the Mandalorian Code is "rallying to the Mandalore's cause", so if the Mandalore tells all Mandalorians they must support the Empire in conquering the galaxy and enslaving entire species and vast trillions of innocent people, they will feel obligated to do so or they wouldn't be able to consider themselves Mandalorian anymore. They will have defied the Mandalore. OTOH, I doubt just any Mandalorian can challenge the Mandalore to personal combat at any time of day, so it's probably not easy for dissenters to just knock off the Mandalore responsible for the things they dislike. The crux of the matter is if someone considers the Mandalore who decided to support the Empire as a legitimate ruler or as an usurper; if the latter, than he is not the legitimate Mandalore and reasonably one can refure "his cause" without breaking the Mandalorian code.
  18. .....uh, why? He can still call himself a "pro-Republic Mandalorian" or whatever. Clearly, if the claimed Mandalore has betrayed Mandalorian principles or whatever or is not seen as a legitimate Mandalore, then it's ridiculous to give weight to the illegitimate Mandalore by accepting the stigma of "dar'manda". Sure, the majority of Mandalorians will call them dar'manda, but why would they do that to themselves? Why would they legitimize their enemy by accepting their enemy's label for them? Anti-Popes didn't go around calling themselves Anti-Popes, after all. They called their enemies that. It's just that in the end they were ruled anti-Popes because they did not take over the institutions in question. Even being the one sitting in Rome doesn't necessarily count; Innocent prevailed over Anacletus in the 12th Century despite Anacletus never being driven out of Rome (he in fact died there); he won because he convinced the majority of Christian Catholics in other countries to accept him and not Anacletus as the rightful Pope (with a little help from that walking disaster St. Bernard). Now, yes, you've said you're concerned with what he calls himself OOC.... but that's really silly. He can call his concept what he wants; a Mandalorian who regards the current Mandalore as illegitimate. The Mandalorian equivalent to a Sedevacantist perhaps. But he can still consider said character to be a Mandalorian.
  19. I dunno about that. As bad as the Jedi Consular storyline is.... I consider the Sith Inquisitor to be the absolute rock bottom. ....yeah, after lurking this thread I finally send in a reply to remark on class stories. *shrug* I really have nothing to add, since I'm not one of the hardcore PvPers and have pretty much stopped running endgame PvP anyway given everything else I'm doing (leveling alts, PvE content, etc.) Anything I might have said has already been said. I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
  20. Actually, I do wonder how much of the prequel-era Jedi have been used to influence this much earlier era, since IIRC a lot of the SW EU material states the child-taking zealot Jedi of the prequels are an unintended result of the reformations after Ruusan.... before which the Jedi did have families but in which they had also become pretty much the ruling class of the Republic due to the conflict with the Sith of that era (not this Sith Empire but the "Brotherhood of Darkness" around 1000BBY). Then again I suspect a lot of this game was tailored to invoke stuff from the movies as a PR move even with the differing time periods. Anyway, appreciate the post Dashto, look forward to chasing you through Warzones again.... damned Mercs/Commandos and your uninterruptable heals.... (Though I am one of those few Sentinels who will only engage in limited pursuit. I try to keep an eye on objectives. It's probably why I suck so much as a Sentinel/Mara.... well that and my lack of twitch reflex.)
  21. I admit to a point of curiosity; do people who play a lot of PvP also prefer a particular faction? If so, why? I know I've seen some opinions expressed about one faction having better/worse PvPers over the other (in my experience it seems that there are about as many lone wolf players on both sides, and I know I've dealt with killchasers/deathmatchers/people-who-don't-pay-attention-to-objectives on Republic and on Empire). Since I only play on Hawk and a little bit on Begeren Colony, I'm mostly posting this here. To answer my own question.... the funny thing is that I used to avoid PvP in all MMOs like the plague. Experiences in WoW with the hardcore PvP guilds on my RP server screwing with the lowbies by wrecking their mission hubs soured me on the concept, and that carried over into STO, CO, and DCUO. But then I went ahead and gave PvP here a try and found out I enjoyed it (within reason), the closer the battle the better. That said, well, I have 18 characters on this server. Only 5 are Empire, and all were rolled primarily to experience each Imp side story at least once. I overwhelmingly prefer playing Republic, and that is primarily because when I get invested into a setting, I tend to consider how I feel about the people and organizations therein. And while my reaction toward the Republic tends to vary between jaded cynicism, bemusement, and just face-palming irritation, I still consider it an acceptable organization in our imperfect world (or galaxy if you prefer), so I enjoy the prospect of defending it. The Empire.... I can probably start a thread to express my sentiments about the Sith Empire, but since I'm not looking to start a debate on the astropolitical elements in the TOR era and my views of morality and ethics, I'll limit myself to an understatement: I do not like the Sith Empire. That's not to say I never touch my Imperial characters - I still play them and I'm trying to get Tyranna through Makeb - but I vastly prefer Republic. And it is a personal choice. So should people who prefer playing Empire think I'm passing some kind of judgement on them, I'm not. Whatever I may feel about the Sith Empire, I do not regard those who prefer playing Empire side in a negative light any more than I would someone playing a Grand Theft Auto title game, where the player's character is a violent criminal by necessity of the story (Hell, I've played the GTA games plenty and laughed maniacally while bringing a Harrier jet to a street fight, so I'd have to be mad at myself too). This is still a game and since so much of it is based around the class stories, I can see people liking the Imperial class stories more than the Republic. I'm just curious as to if there is something to the idea that PvPers in general prefer one faction over the other, and I figure that the responses I'll get will show if this is true and shed some light into why that would be true. I thank you in advance for your participation.
  22. Such horrible conduct, going after marked healers. They're just trying to have fun too! Clearly people need better priorities!
  23. I'm pretty sure they did.
  24. I just saw Baniv in a CW with the guild tag intact, so I'm guessing BioWare relented?
