  1. i would take PT in huttball too for grapple
  2. i have a 5 button mouse, how would i go about making the game think that one button was alt and one was ctrl? that would make life so much faster....i think
  3. i glanced over this but didnt read into it much as it was based on RIFT, the bit about starting a new char was good advice, started a merc so that i would get into each skill bit by bit and its pretty easy to get used to, the inability to use 'esc' and 'tab' at speed is an annoyance but something im sure i WILL get used to
  4. im not new to MMO's but i came from a game where it was pretty much face roll, i can keybind but i still find it tough to do, im trying to do the ESDF for movement but i dont see the advantage of it as i only gain from what i can tell 2 more keys, but i lose the ability to tab (if im tanking i need this to hold agro on mobs while waiting for my mass taunt. so i need tab for speed), with ESDF im having problems using the shift/ctrl modifier (so gaining 2ish but losing 8-10, i play on a laptop so i dont have number pad keys to bind, may be its just going to take more time to get used to, i hope people can give me more reasons as to why i would keep to ESDF instead of going back to WASD.. thank you

  6. omg i know exactly what you mean, i switched from PT to AP, was hitting them with Flame burst and retractable blade mostley, i felt like i was doing almost no damage to them as i was used to seeing at least 2 DoT's on my target, we lost but i topped the damage board. i had no idea how or why as i just felt like i didnt do enough to earn that kind of score, that internal/elemental damage boost is sneaky, i might work in a little bit of a hybrid into it as IM (even its DoT) is all elemental
  7. i have to agree unfortunately, i spent....well more time then im going to admit on the talent calc seeing what i can change, the idea behind IM was that it was an 18 sec DoT and after death carries on were as most if not all other PT DoT's are for 6 secs 8 i think for ion cylinder with the talents in place, i guess i was just trying to keep some type of balance, all in all i want to be the ''big bad wolf'' of the tank world while still being able to 1v1 or even hold off a group from capping an objective. while i do see all your points and others that i have found while playing with the talent calc i feel that now i will stop with that type of hybrid and take a few more points into PT tree...thanx for this tho it was def a tipping point in my inability to make a solid decision god i hope when i cap it will be as easy as this
  8. again i WILL be using BOTH cylinders, the idea is to be DPS in pvp and tank in pve without having to respec each time....i would rather avoid having a massive array of dif gear sets but seems this is unavoidable which is totally understandable. while i do not aim to be MT for HM/NM modes i do want to be viable if i go one way or another....a WILL without a doubt be putting points into shield tree up to 'jet charge' the concern i have is would putting points in 'ion overload' and 'neural overload' (3 points total) be a slight waste on the pvp side of things. all im losing by not going any further into shield tree is 10% shield chance (yes i know its a hell alot but its not the point) on the other hand i HAVE to put atleast 3 points in to combustible cylinder to advance in pyrotech tree, Incendiary missile is awesome in pvp and mixed with jet charge and grapple means i will terrorize in pvp (gap closers for huttball and DoT's for people trying to cap objectives in the other 2) i dont want to be one of thos people that aim for the 1m in pvp or aim to MT in an NM, but having a little of both, even as a reversal of being a hard nut in pvp and a dps in an ops lol, i just want my options to stay open and well rounded and powertech has that. i was looking through the forums and even the vangaurd threads and found taurgrims ion fist build, i gotta say it is almost exactly what i want (damage mitigation and decent burst damage) but all the spare points go into the AP tree and not PT tree, altho this isnt much of a leap i would be nice to have more options available to me... thanx for all the replies
  9. i dont want to do both at the same time. i want to do decent DoT damage when i go combustible cylinder when i do warzones, and be an effective tank using ion cylinder in ops, i know combustible requires points to be good but is it totally essential that i put points into ion cylinder?
  10. im only a nubby too but, i would say as you are running in:- thermal detonator - incendiary missile - rail shot - rapid shots (auto attack to get back some heat) then finish up with a (because you been moving in) flame burst - rocket punch... then continue with flame burst and rapid shots as needed.... but most pvp rotations are situational and may require your aoes (which are much better damage) but that is just me in a pvp situation where im expected to get ruined and needed max damage as fast as possible, a rinse and repeat rotation would have rapid shots in sooner to maintain heat at its lowest
  11. iv not capped so i dont know what end game mods are like...but....can i be full shieldtech tree and be aim heavy in gear? most tanks i ''assume'' are end heavy but is it essential?
  12. im putting points into shield tech tree up till i get jet charge/storm (force leap), i know this is a common pvp build but is it viable end game in pve as i want to be an awesome tank but i also will be doing alot of pvp. does ion cylinder make or break the tank? i want to skip the talents that enhance ion cylinder so that i can switch between it (for pve) and combustible cylinder (for pvp) as in the pyro tree you HAVE to put atleast 3 points into that cylinder to get any higher in the tree, its been an annoying choice for me as i want to tank but i want to be good in pvp... this is just my talents, any advice on what gear would help me balance pvp and pve would be great, time isnt an issue im in this for the long haul...but i would rather not have to switch from one set to another
  13. perfect.... i hate pvp but the warzones are addictive (even huttball) i cant wait for the new ones thats are in development
  14. i got a couple of nar shaddaa (30+) quests at 25 from my companion, but i assume it was due to affection being moderately high...i wont say who tho as im not sure how to input the spoiler thingy-ma-bob
  15. without noticing i have been playing in an over populated server in the north america servers, this was due to my work hours and not my own time zone, i moved to the EU servers after finding out a few friends played but when i moved to their server it was totally dead (max of 40 people in republic fleet at peak) were as the north america server i was in hit 130+..... im looking for a populated english PVE server in the EU that has good numbers but doesnt get full... bonus would be a pve server that has a good pvp community (i like to pvp on my terms not some one elses, i know im a wimp)
  16. you are missing force potency...that is all
  17. ok so i been looking at threads and watching vids but im still not sure, i have a commando and a vanguard already so telling me to roll them is pointless, so my question is....are sages able to be completely mobile DPS? i know project is instant thus kitable, as i level up will more become like this? as even tho tele throw is awesome the 3 secs can be killer, also what tree makes the most skills go from cast/channeled to instant?
  18. im a ALT'aholic i have love for all my char, its also my down fall. in the 7 years of playing MMO's i have NEVER capped, i get drawn in to other things when i see pros play their class to perfection, but in ever MMO i start as a tank and end as a tank....
  19. learning the game is not all that hard, its the acronyms that you have to learn, in the last few posts that i have done i was talking about skills, so look at your skills and just take the first letter of each word (i dont mean to sound condescending sorry) in commando most stuff is either HM= hammer shot, HIB= high impact bolt, u get the idea unless you mean you dont know what we mean by what to do in a WZ (warzone) or BG (battleground) an objective is one of 2 things 1) its something you need in that warzone: I.E... 1a) the ball in huttball 1b) the door (this can be both planting and disarming the bomb) in voidstar (the big ship) 1c) stealing the turret in alderan civil war 2) this could mean the way to gain a medal at the end of the WZ. I.E do X amount of damage, heals, etc but seeing as you decided to ask in this thread im going to assume you are asking about the skill tree 1) gunnery, comes into its element at 20 when you get gravity round, this is a game changer for some commandos as they tend to only use this till they get demo round and nearly all the talents after it just make it better or make other skills work with it 2) assault, this is the mobility tree (assuming you do not want to heal) is good at 20 you get IR and becomes great at 33 (rain of fire talent) which adds 9% damage (to a burning target) to HM, full auto, and HIB... again sorry for sounding condescending but its better to get it all once then ask twice right?
  20. oh the skill, you said talent. and how does this effect anything, u get a decent damage burst every few mins with that, you will prob only get a chance to use it once or twice in a WZ, hardly tide turner
  21. so it will do fail healing on 1 or 2 more people? fail heal is still fail, i hope they do the amount it heals too, 100% of 0 is still a big fat ZERO
  22. yea i assumed by the stars you meant assault but made it a little shorter LOL edit: assault doesnt have all that much damage but is viable and can kill
  23. sorry i miss read the question, i dont think assault does as much DoT damage as the watchmen tree (sent) but im only going on the tooltips of the sent tree as i never made it passed 22 on my sent, assault tree makes use of the DoT's with the added damage also with assaults rang makes it handy as u can hit a distant target or run away yourself while blasting them. combat medic will NEVER be a bad idea but the lack of DPS (untill you can mass stat it) will drive you insane, if u want to stand still and hit one butten 3 times then 1 other button to kill off a mob then go gunnery, if u want to be mobile DoT and laugh as u run away from a flaming man then assault, but there is also combat medic....now do not just think that this has no DPS perks, the supercharged cells gives you a 10% damage boost to ALL attacks, plus you get the added bonus of alot of heals so u can use a DPS companion
