  1. Good luck; I hope you get an official response giving you the go ahead Most wouldn't bother going after someone for doing something like you're planning (though to a super retentive lawyer, Youtube clips of you playing the game might even be considered infringement. An angry meatball to those lawyers ). Still, given that you posted on the official forums, I'd hate to see your project get shut down by an overzealous copyright holder *coughEAcough*
  2. Before you look into how you can extract the assets of a game, you should really consider if it is legal for you to do so. It may not come to anything, but an email to Bioware's relations department (or EA's legal department http://www.ea.com/1/legal-notices) wouldn't hurt.
  3. You raise some very good points, and though I don't agree with some of the suggestions given, it's a nice place to start. I've really given up on anything that claims a paradigm shift in X genre, at least from major publishers. Companies like EA, who are ultimately beholden to shareholders, see things very differently from the consumer. (There's a great Extra Credits episode that touches on this, but I can't seem to find it right now) Paraphrasing, big publishers like data. They want to see evidence that a certain kind of game has a high chance of bringing a return on their investment. That's why we get so many sequels. The original sold 10 million copies, so more of the same has a pretty good chance of selling a large number of copies as well. When they're dropping several million dollars on a project, it's understandable they are a bit risk averse. I think TOR did a good job of working within that environment, and pushing the definition of what a mainstream MMO is supposed to be. It may not be a huge change, we still have the grind and endgame issues, and all of that, but it's more change (no to mention being more successful at it) than many who have come before.
  4. It's happened to me a few times so far. Not sure if it's related, but I was on a network different from the one from which I normally play.
  5. Just tonight I found a group to do all the heroics on a starting planet, got a couple solid players on my friends list for future reference, then got another couple solid players after running Black Talon. Without an established guild, adding competent people you find in PUGs is a great start.
  6. This is not true. The option to select processor number in msconfig is for troubleshooting or other specific purposes. The OS will use all your processor cores by default. It's best not to go messing around in msconfig unless you really do know what the settings do.
  7. I'd be surprised if it was a mistake; accessibility in UI is part of Software Engineering 101. It probably came down to a cost/benefit thing, which is even worse than just forgetting to include it. I'm not colorblind, but I have worked with people who are to make more accessible GUIs, and it's really inexcusable in a product that is intended for a mass audience, especially when it can be a relatively simple solution. I hope (I even have a degree of faith that) Bioware intends to implement this at some point in the future. At the very least, when/if add-ons are permitted, I would like to collaborate with someone with colorblindness to make a more accessible solution.
  8. That's pretty odd. Wonder if someone referenced the wrong cube?
  9. I'll probably get flak for saying this, but as long as your expectations aren't too high, I think you should be fine. Keep the settings to low or medium (turn off shadows) and a reasonable resolution (1024x768 should be ok) and I think you'll be able to quest and do small groups without much trouble. I'm assuming you're sticking to a budget, so I won't try to talk you into something more powerful right now.
  10. It's not too late; change majors! <-- BA English Literature, MEd Curriculum and Instruction, back in school for something useful
  11. I have two mercenary bounty hunters. I've tanked in the majority of MMOs I've played, and this is a nice change. I recently made my second mercenary on another server for the same reasons as you.
  12. I'm tempted to think there may be a bug in the login process, though it's never a bad idea to be cautious. Here's the scenario: I try to log in through secure wifi away from home, I get the "bad password" and "too many failed security questions" prompt. Not 10 minutes later, I log in just fine at home. Maybe there's a part of the login process that identifies when you log in from a new IP address, and maybe there's a bug in there? I changed my password just to be sure, but it's still odd behavior. FYI, I ordered an authenticator two days after I bought the game, and it still hadn't arrived so I checked Origin order history. It says there is no order history to report. That's pretty cool, because I've purchased a few things through Origin, including TOR. Guess I'll just reorder...
  13. Where could one find this podcast? I can only listen to the same Stop Podcasting Yourself so many times each week
  14. I'm a picky sob, so I can't say I have seen zero issues, but I have never run into anything nearly bad enough to make me want to rage to random strangers on a message board. The internet is a terribly depressing place if you take it at face value. I tell myself that this is not what kids consider normal behavior, but I may be lying to myself.
  15. I give this thread three angry meatballs :w_mad:
