Let me start off by saying that I love this game vey much. I'm incredibly pleased with almost every aspect of this game and I think that bioware did an incredible job. I'm not level 50 yet but I am close, and there is one thing that has sort of been bugging me and that's the emphasis on pvp only being worthwhile in warzones. The idea of participating in the galactic battle between he empire and the republic is incredibly appealing. I've been following the game for years now and I was really hoping that they were going to incorporate some sort of large scale method of pvp that actually feels like it makes a difference in the game world. My issues with warzones is that they are just little instanced battles that really have no impact whatsoever on anything. But, rather then come here and whine, I thought I might offer what seems to me like a viable solution. In spite of their many issues, swg and eve online did manage to get one thing right; player driven pvp content that actually mattered and encouraged participation. I would love to see some kind of system like that eventually make its way here to swtor. I've got a few ideas that could help make that possible. Ok, so how about we make some planets that are essentially barren? No quests, no instancing, or any of the other things on the normal planets. Then, you take those planets and allow players to place bases and/or structures. Make those structures destroyable or conquerable and have an impact on a planetary control system. Then, allow the planets to be controllable based on which faction controls the most bases. If you wanted to take it a step further, you could allow entire systems to be controlled based on which faction controls the most planets. Furthermore, you could even step that up to the galaxy level based on the amount of systems controlled. There are a couple ways this could be implemented. One would be to seed the existing sectors of the galaxy with these controllable planets and let the players war for control of both the planets and the sector. Creating a limited amount of planets would create a constant conflict for control and the ability to place on said planets. The second way to implement this would be to create some small mini sectors inside of the current galaxy map. These sectors could exist of nothing but controllable planets and exist only for the purpose of creating player driven content. This would also create a means of separating this content from the core of the game. That is basically the framework of my idea in a nutshell. Implementing a system like this has some very obvious and not-so-obvious benifits; 1.) Player driven content. You create the potential to create an ever changing end game that creates for itself and keeps players hooked and intrigued by giving them the chance to do something that actually makes a difference in the game. 2.) It stimulates and encourages community. Members of the same faction will be forced to form alliances and work together to achieve common goals. Members of opposing factions will be forced to communicate for treaties, truces, and other methods creating a rich environment for politics and intrigue. 3.) It appeals to and benifits the role players. I don't think I need to explain all the possibilities that exist here. 4.) It stimulates and helps develops the economy. Players and guilds will be spending money on the war effort, bases, armaments, and everything else that goes with. Allowing personalization by allowing these bases to be decorated uniquely could further stimulate the economy by providing more things to craft or buy. Making some components lootable would give players more to do in the endgame. 5.) It gives guilds a purpose. 6.) It gives players that don't want to or are bored with raiding another avenue to travel. 7.) It makes pvp and more importantly the galactic war actually mean something. Players will feel like they are actually participating and influencing he struggle for control. So, that's he basics of my idea. I'm open to both praise and criticism. If you like the idea please feel free to /sign. Also, if there are any spelling or grammatical errors I apologize. I wrote this on my phone while bored at work. When I get home I'll hop on and correct.
