  1. So for PvE purposes (friends doing FPs, many class quests require you to use Yuun in the 40-43 range and being CM makes these ridiculously easy) I've gone combat medic spec for the time being. I do like to PvP however, and it seems alot harder for me to get medals as CM as opposed to say gunnery. I'm talking about a pure tree here btw, so up to the 40 pt. talent ability. Any help is greatly appreciated, tyvm.
  2. *ahem* while waiting for the site to load after buying the collectors addition, stop clicking the 'buy now' button over and over again.
  3. On my server, repub vs. repub matches are pretty much the only hutball matches I get. Anyways, on to Taugrim: Man you are amazing. Just made a powertech for pretty much PvP only, and I happen upon this on the trooper forums while surfing since I play a commando. Every single video you make is informative, and you've been pretty much my go-to source for PvP guides. I will definitely be trying this out.
  4. assault really shines after level 40, when you get assault platique. You can easily get 2.5k hit, defender, warden, 75k damage, killing blow, assassin, and possibly 2.5k heal if you're lucky. Invincible is also on the table if you're playing noobs, as is 300k damage (gotta love those dots). Thats 7 dmg medals and 1 healing medal.
  5. hmmm well let us see here... Started playing 1 week after release. I have 1 1/2 hours at the MOST to play each day. I'm at level 41. Now, I get that your casual is 3-5 hours each day, maybe more, but for others that is not the case. I regularly get around 8 medals a match anyways, so I don't see how it matters.
  6. yeah, that last post was just made on a whim. Also, I'm interested in hearing other peoples advice on how to do well with gunnery in PvP, so feel free to add anything you think is relevant.
  7. You have obviously never played a trooper. If you have no clue whatsoever about what you're complaining about, don't complain. Use LOS. Use Interrupts. If you do these things gunnery/arsenal become so weak it's not even funny. These are the integral abilities of the class. By giving them a cd/larger cost you essentially wreck an entire spec, not balance it. It's clear by now that everybody who complains about this has more of a player issue than a play-style issue.
  8. well, I've edited the title. ouch bad mistake on my part. Just in case it doesn't work: THIS IS A PvP GUIDE!. ok. Now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A gunnery commandos situational guide: How to play in _______ Warzone. How to Play in Alderaan: as with most ranged/caster classes, you'll want to either get up on top of a bunker or to the side where you'll be as inconspicuous as possible. Stay out of the opposing teams way, and enjoy helping out your teammates with those 4k Demo rounds. Defend turrets ftw. How to Play in Hutball: Hutball strongly favors ranged classes. With concussive force, knocking people back into fire and acid and off the catwalks is ridiculously fun and you'll quickly become hated by the other team and voted MVP by your own. Escort your ball carrier making use of concussive round and cryo grenade along with your knockbacks. Also, act as a surrogate healer for the BC. Keep him up if possible. Gunnery commandos can carry the ball just fine if played well in a pinch also. How to Play in Voidstar: Stay off to the side near a healing consumable. Face-**** everybody, and when the opposing team finally notices you and your 8 medals, pop out of los and use the healing consumable. Rinse and repeat.
  9. Hey all. Over my time in SWTOR, I have played 3 different classes, blah-de-blah credentials here, same old same old. The one I stuck with, obviously, is a trooper. Commando to be exact. And the spec I chose is gunnery. This guide is not a strictly 'do this, do that' guide per se, but more of a guideline about how to PvP effectively as a gunnery commando. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gunnery is not a mobile spec. If you want to run around, then go assault. Gunnery is a much more turret play-style oriented tree, and the damage it can pull out is insane. But before we get to that, lets go over some of the basic PvP skills you'll need to perform at your best. 1) Keybinds. I cannot stress how crucial this is. Using your fingers to press your abilities is much, much faster than clicking on them. To set up keybinds, go to preferences and enable all action bars. Then, at the bottom of the preference page click keybinds and set them up however you wish. 2) Mouse steering. Press down both buttons to move your character. Since you will be pressing abilities with the fingers of your left hand (unless you're left-handed obviously) using your pointer and middle finger to press down you mouse buttons will allow you to move much faster than pressing the WASD or arrow keys. 3) Strafing. Strafing is the technique of running while constantly facing your target. I suggest rebinding the strafe keys to A and D. To practice strafing, press down whatever key you have strafe left or right bound to and run around a rock using the right mouse button to turn your character so you are facing the rock at all times. OK, now that I've got that out of the way, on to the good stuff. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gunnery in general: As a gunnery commando, you're going to be the guy pulling out those 3.5k crits with demo round. You aren't going to be the dude on the front lines, leave that to the guardians and vanguards. Instead, you're going to be the guy in the back, destroying people with the BFG. Welcome. Rotation: Gunnery commandos want to start out with grav round. The exception is if the enemy is running away, then you want to use full-auto because when talented it give a 100% snare to whoever you're attacking. After building either 4-5 stacks of gravityt vortex, you'll want to shoot off demo round. Demo round is a hugely hard hitting ability that can crit for up to 4k. As it only costs 2 ammo and has a 15 sec cd, it is immensely powerful. After that comes high impact bolt, or HIB. it hits fairly hard, is amazingly cheap, and is on a 15 sec cd. Cell: As soon as you get the cell-charger skill, switch over to the armor-piercing cell. This will make you're abilities hit harder, and is just amazing. Defensive CDs: Gunnery has more tricks than most people think. With the concussive force skill, you can create separation with both stock strike and concussive charge. With reactive shield you take 25% less damage. With kolto recharge you recharge health using the recharge cells ability. Full auto can create separation through it's snare. Cryo grenade can stun a target, and adrenaline rush can give you that extra edge. Learn to use these abilities, and learn to love em'. How to get the big medals: As gunnery, after you get Demo round, it's almost guaranteed that you'll get demolisher at some point during the match. Remember that you aren't ROFLPWNRAMBO, and by staying at the back lines you'll get soldier/commando easily. Using stuns/defensive cds, 1v1 a squishy class for the assassin medal. My favorite is operative, just drop stealth scan, pick one up, and own him. Kill someone in your endzone/defend doors/turrets and you'll pick up defender or warden. Get the KB for quick draw. Bam that's 6-7 medals. Also, if you get lucky you can pick up medic with a 2.5k self heal. Gonna take a mini-break, expect more soon.
  10. I played an operative (scoundrel mirror) rerolled to a jedi/trooper (play either/or depending on my mood) and have never looked back. It works both ways. So you weren't feeling good about playing a sent, and switched to a scoundrel? Good for you. This wasn't a class issue, it's a play-style thing.
  11. I've played both some, each have their strengths. For which you'd be able do kill one of the sorcs with fastest, gunnery. You can hit for 3.9k with demo rounds. For which you'd be able to delay the longest with, assault. Assuming they're grouped together, plasma grenade+incendiary rounds can delay flag capping through dots alone. The real difference is play style, there really is no 'good or bad' spec for PvP. Do you like to hang back while getting medals such as demolisher? Go gunnery for those big crits. Do you like being mobile? go assault for supporting the team. Honestly, I would say this. As gunnery, I could kill maybe one or two using knockbacks strategically. As assault, I would have trouble killing on a time crunch, but I could delay the inevitable capture of whatever node I was guarding for longer.
  12. I've played both. Since I PvP a lot, I've ended up just staying assault spec. I'm on Hoth, and can live through two packs of mobs simultaneously attacking me. The advantage of assault is mobility. However, you will run into situations where you need to los, cc, etc. etc. A few tips for assault: 1) use concussive round for cc. 2) make use of Elara's carbonized stream, don't attack a frozen target. 3) Even with only green gear, Elara can keep herself alive. Let her tank a mob occasionally. 4) don't go crazy with incendiary round, manage your ammo. 5) in a pull with a strong mob and a weak mob or two, kill the weak mobs first. 6) use recharge power cells whenever you can. 7) make use of defensive cds such as no retreat and reactive shield often. 8) you can heal yourself, and please do. Hope this helped, and good luck! .
  13. that level 50 will have gear, ability, and talent point advantage. Problem NOT solved. You're also forgetting that the bolster mechanic won't work in the open world. So while his level 32 grenade hits for 300 damage, the lvl 50 will be critting for 4k.
  14. level 37 commando here, and after playing gunnery and assault extensively, I can truthfully say that I feel more of an asset as assault. When I played gunnery, I felt like I could put out great damage, but I was less mobile. As assault, not only am I able to gun on the move, in objective based games I can delay a objective point capture for the valuable second it takes to get some backup. I can regularly net 6-7 medals a game as assault, and as gunnery I net less. All in all, I feel like assault is better for PvP.
  15. bugs with ability lag, PvP balance, class balance, storyline quests.... AND THIS IS WHAT YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT?!.
  16. I play on an Imac, 27" 4gb, and don't seem to have any issues. I think it may be a computer/connection issue.
  17. hmm. Assault isn't so much about 'OMG 6K DEMO ROUND!' as is is about being an annoying pain in the ***. Assault is much stronger than gunnery in PvP simply because the dots it puts out can stall entire groups of people from capturing objective points. You're also much more mobile than gunnery as assault. Are you playing a hybrid spec or did you pick up assault plastique?. oh, and we have several ways to lower the recharge cells ability cd so that it's up a fair amount of the time. Use that whenever possible.
  18. completely wrong. Assault is probably the best PvP spec for commandos.
  19. if all you intend to do is solo PvE play, then go ahead and do this. But if you're playing PvP or PvE group play, please do not. You'd just be detrimental to your party members.
  20. I'm a soldier. I prefer being on the front lines wreaking havoc than being in some stuffy office on coruscant like garza.
  21. just go gunnery, and spam grav round. There's your high DPS.
  22. Yeah, after playing a bit more, stuff dies really quickly. All in all, loving the play style, since I can heal 4X, then pull off some crazy DPS in a SCC phase. Thanks you very much for making this guide, it has been extremely helpful.
  23. well I gotta hand it to ya... level 33 combat medic, finished act 1 with ease. one more thing though... which pet do you use? M1-4X with sentry stance is great for tanking, but damage is a bit lacking. On the other hand, Jorgan is great for damage, but has a hard time keeping threat. Which pet do you use, and are there any tips or tricks to it?.
