Please note that these can be toggled on and off, so basically you have three different modes to choose from: Normal, increased blaster power and increased shield power. The currently active mode is indicated in the lower left corner of the screen.

Previewing items from schematics is not possible right now as far as I know. You can preview them from the crafting menu by ctrl-clicking the item's icon above the materials.
