  1. It's at a low point, but the game is not dying. If the game was dying like you said, BW/EA would have already said nope we done & not even been working on finishing what they started, nor talking about season 2. *smh*

I think most can agree that the core components of most MMO's are; Story, PVE & PVP. If this can be accepted then lets look at this from a SWTOR perspective:

    • PVP - Largely ignored other than the new warzone which was recently released. Constant complaints of bugs in warzones & class balance issues.
    • PVE - Recently stated that there are no short terms plans for a new Operation. The current stuff is a mix of rehashed content such as EV to DP & ToS and Ravagers which have been around for almost 1.5 years.
    • Story - This is the focus right now.

So 1/3 elements to an MMO is getting attention. To me this indicates that BW or EA have said "nope we done" to the other 2 elements. This shows that while the game may not be dying, it is not performing well enough to receive enough funding from EA to develop content for more than 1 of the 3 elements.

Now to keep the game going for the people that still play, if you had to choose either Story, PVP or PVE to focus on, of course Story is going to be the choice because that is something that appeals to everyone to an extent.

  2. For me, MMORPG means that I can either play solo or RP with other players. I do not engage in PvP or raid content.

The key here is "for me". While that's good for you you also can't deny that there is a large number of players who believe an MMORPG should have raid content, with consistent releases of new tiers.

What bothers me in threads like this, is that players who seem to need other players to enjoy the game

Imagine that...players wanting other players to play a multiplayer game with...how dare they.

  3. So I'm returning to the game after almost 2 years, last I played was patch 2.9. Gear wise I've got to the point where I need to be doing story mode operations to prepare for hard mode. Had a hard time getting story mode ops to pop through GF, and there don't seem to be many pug groups for them either. So I've decided to look for a guild.

Progression wise I've cleared everything up to DP NiM, in which I was 4/5 before leaving the game. I was also a raid leader for about 2 years, but I don't really want to lead again, too much stress.

Currently I'm playing a PowerTech DPS as my main spec, and it is my only 65. Although I also have a Merc, Sniper, Sorcerer and Marauder between 55 - 60.

For scheduled Ops I'd be available Tuesday, Thursday & possibly Sunday from 20:30 (UK time). I know this is quite late for some guilds, but I have RL stuff that has to be done before being able to game. I'd also be available most Saturday's up until 18:00.

  4. I don't recall the Emperor ever being difficult even before 4.0 tbh.

He may not has been especially difficult, be surely more than a trash mob... What I mean is this was meant to be the climax to the entire unique class story, and it just felt meh.

Obviously they don't want people to get stuck on the original story content anymore, which is fine I suppose. It was just really anti-climactic. Walking into The Emperor's chamber, finally confronting him, defeating him in 30 seconds (including a drink break).

  5. It was harder in the old days and the mechanics have changed

Man the fight could be beat if I just used Strike through the entire encounter. It's just disappointing I suppose that the damn Sith Emperor can be defeated with the same ease (if not easier) than the trash mobs I fought before entering his room.

  6. Just to preface this, I know difficulty seems to be a touchy subject around here for several reasons. This is also the first class story I have completed since 2013-ish. Anyway I felt an urge to finish the Jedi Knight story since I hear it's one of the best stories in the game. Anyway as stated in the title their will be spoilers from the Jedi Knight story in this.

So I have just defeated The Emperor in the Dark Temple on Dromund Kaas, with me (level 47) I had my influence rank 12 T7. I think the fight lasted at most 30 seconds. So I'm here thinking "30 seconds, is that it?"... the biggest, baddest Sith mother f$#K£r in the galaxy took 30 seconds for me to defeat, and 30 seconds because I took a drink during the fight.

I chose the Light Side option to send him to Tython, then the dude went and disappeared on me. Anyhow I went back to my ship, then had some ceremony with Satele Shan about how I'd saved the galaxy, and finally the achievement for completing chapter 3.

Now I'm thinking surely that isn't the end, right? The whole JK story, ended with a 30 second fight which felt like nothing more than a trash mob? Well...chapter 3 done and that's the class story done right. Talk about anti-climactic.

  7. but a lot of people will dispute this or feel/belief it to be no longer so.

People can believe an apple is an orange as much as they want, doesn't mean it's actually an orange. Until BioWare say their apple is actually an orange, it will still be an apple. People are entitled to their beliefs, but an apple is an apple and an orange is an orange unless the powers that be say otherwise.

  8. whether someone believes this game to be an MMO or a single player game

While you're right that people should just let others enjoy the game how they want, I caught myself at this point. This game is an MMO, you can see this here on the official info page on the swtor website.

Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is the only massively-multiplayer online game...
  9. ... we wiped 8 times in a row at the first boss in the fp lost island 1.0 hardmode.

The second boss was a stone cold killa in that one.

This flashpoint was one of the main reasons my raid team was exiled from our original guild for being too antisocial.

Edit: Actually even some of the trash in that required pretty high co-ordination, considering it was just trash!

  10. However I don't feel a level cap raise is needed and justified in terms of new raid content..

May be a slight misunderstanding then. If you're saying that it's unnecessary to have a level cap raise before we get a new raid, then yes I completely agree with that. It would make more sense to introduce a new raid at the current level cap.

But a new raid will more than likely bring with it a new tier of gear, which which would also mean a new tier of crafting.

  11. Reusable stims & medpacks.

Biochem being extremely useful for raiding & saving money, for those expensive repair costs.

A companion being strong because they're geared in a full Underworld set, not just because they exist.

  12. Of course with level cap increase comes new gear tiers, new augments, new crafting tiers, new PVP tuning, god forbid 'balance' and a ton of stuff I can't think of right now.

This isn't a single player RPG, like it or not this is an MMO. If you disagree please see the here. Whether you like it or not, new gear/crafting tiers & a level cap increase is something that should be expected mutliple times over the course of an MMO's life cycle.

  13. If you're just learning to play sniper at 55, maybe stick with Marksmanship, its a lot easier to play. Ill put in a Lethality rotation, but you should know there is a hybrid spec that outperforms full Lethality atm, but there's plenty on that here if you're interested:

    http://www.noxxic.com/swtor/pve/imperial-agent/sniper/lethality/talent-build

    Basic Marksman rotation:

Shatter Shot > Series of Shots > Followthrough > Target Acquired > Series of Shots > Followthrough > Snipe x 2 > Followthrough > Ambush > Followthorough > Shatter Shot / Rifle Shot / Corrosive Dart > Start from Begining

If Target Acquired is on cooldown, skip that and the second Series of Shots > Followthrough combination.

It might sound complicated, but with a bit of practice that rotation is a lot easier than the other specs imo.

Of course Orbital Strike needs to be worked into that rotation, but if you're just learning then it won't matter too much, until you take it into endgame pve.

    Basic Lethality Priorities:

Because the energy management of Lethality is a bit harder than Marksmanship its easier to look at this as a priority list. With Marksmanship its unlikely you'll run out of Energy so it's easy to stick to a rotation, but Lethality can be tougher. Remember to stay above 60 energy as much as possible, unless you have Adrenaline Probe available.

    1. Shatter Shot

    2. Corrosive Grenade (to refresh dot when it wears off)

    3. Corrosive Dart (to refresh dot when it wears off)

    4. Cull (only when the both the dots from Corrosive Grenade and Corrosive Dart are on the target).

    5. Series of Shots.

    6. Snipe with Laze Target.

    7. Ambush

    8. Explosive Probe.

    9. Snipe without Laze Target.

    10. Rifle Shot (if below 60 energy).

Of course Orbital Strike needs to be worked into that priority list, but if you're just learning then it won't matter too much, until you take it into endgame pve.

Preparing for people to flame me for noob rotation and being terrible at life.
