  1. That's funny. In my free time, I want to play games... not fix them. I spend enough time making IT systems work at work.
  2. When you have the kind of resources that EA and Bioware have, it is a simple proposition. I work with huge systems for a living. I am in the process of migrating 500TB of data from the west coast to the east coast. Half a dozen applications. Thousands of active users. SWTOR is nowhere nearly as complex as that. We are talking a couple of SQL tables. Character table. Item table. Guild table. Create a couple of views, maybe a cursor or two. Take a week to test it and then let it fly. Anyone who believes that transferring a character from one server to another is difficult has no idea what they are talking about. Forget the guilds. Make the guilds reform. How hard is it to go to the guild vendor and create a new guild? Send out invites to people as they transfer in and your guild is back together. Seriously. This is a basic IT challenge. These problems have been solved over, and over and over again. Data migrations are not rocket science. You define your dataset, create a migration tool, debug the process and you're done. I've been doing this for 15 years. I'm sure Bioware / EA has people on staff who have done it before. If they don't, well... that's just incompetence. If I were a shareholder, I would be bringing a lawsuit right about now. They have some of the best intellectual property in all of geekdom, and they can't monetize it? It hints at serious incompetence among management.
  3. I thought it was just my server. It looks like it is the entire game. Too bad. A lot of people are going to be out of work here in a couple of months. I like this game. I want to keep playing it. Heck, I'm taking time to come write some posts on a forum and add my voice to the chorus of people want to want play, if only the devs and management will get their act together. We need 1. Server merges 2. Free character transfer to high population servers (are there even any of those left?) 3. Cross server LFG
  4. I think Daniel Erickson can go ahead and take my $15 subscription out of his paycheck and give it to Bioware when I cancel. The only thing that could keep me around at this point is something like a cross server LFG tool that would allow me to find a group to play with. Right now there are 21 people in the Spacedock on my server. More than half of them are PVPing. Tell me Daniel, what good is a server centric LFG tool going to do me with only 10 people to pull from? How many of those 10 people are actually going to want to run the same FP I want/need to run?
  5. I'm just chiming in for a +1 here. This game is dead. Maybe not completely dead, but at least on life support. The ONLY thing that is going to potentially fix it at this point is to merge realms together. There are a whole 21 people on my server in the Spacedock right now. I have a level 50 and I cannot find a group. I have been in two guilds at this point and both have withered away because there is nothing to keep players engaged. The endgame content is not enough to keep people around it seems. I am leveling an alt, but what is the point? Once they hit 50 there will be nothing to do. Forget new content. Forget lowbie content. Figure out how to handle the technical challenges of merging servers. Build the community up. 21 people on a holiday weekend is terrible. If 1.3 does not introduce free character transfers so that we can move onto active servers, I am canceling my subscription. There is no point in paying $15 a month to log onto a dead server.
