  1. thanks! messed around with it a bit today, and at least after an afternoon of running lockbox missions every 30-90 minutes, it feels like the lock boxes just about break even (but the purple +450 missions that sell for 30,000 credits make up for it when they drop)
  2. I'm coming back to SWTOR after a long absence... not remember how to play any of my characters, I'm just going to create new ones (since I don't exactly remember the storylines either), but I noticed that my level 30 Bounty Hunter has maxed out slicing and a few million credits. just wondering if it would still be worthwhile to log into my BH once an hour or so to run slicing missions, or if the profiteering from the skill has been nerfed.
  3. I'm just coming back to the game after a long absence and I'm at a bit of a loss... I've got a bunch of characters of different classes in their 10's/20's, but tbh, I don't really remember how to play any of them and I don't remember any of the storylines. I think I'm just going to start over, but I can't decide what to roll. any suggestions on a fast leveler that's easy to pickup? typically in MMO's, I tend to play ranged dps or healers (my Warcraft main is a resto/elemental shaman)... I started messing around with a jedi consular, but he seemed awfully squishy to me.
  4. I'm just coming back to SWTOR after a loooong absence, and since at this point I no longer remember how to play any of my characters or where they're at in their storylines (my alts are all a mix of level 10-30 characters), I'm thinking the best course of action is to just start fresh. I'm wondering what the best course for crew skills would be, though... is there typically enough of a market to make a profit on gathering skills, or would I be better off going crafting to be self-sufficient and not have to rely on the GTN as much?
  5. I've found slicing to be great money. my level 25 bounty hunter with 400 slicing has about 350,000 credits. my level 25 trooper who's cyber/scavaging/underworld trading has about 50,000 credits. I usually break even on the missions themselves, but whatever nodes I come across while leveling are pure profit and the 340 missions sell for 10,000-40,000 credits on the Trade Network.
  6. on my jedi guardian, I was able to: keep most armor slots up-to-date with blue/purple gear (for both myself and my companion) and still make a ton of money I went synthweaving/archeology/slicing synthweaving+archeology to make green items and RE them into blue/purple schematics, and then slicing to have the credits to buy the necessary rare materials to craft the blue/purple items as necessary. the biggest crew skill money sink imo are the mission skills other than slicing.
  7. I looked at screenshots of endgame gear. and promptly rolled Imperial.
  8. doesn't really matter, just pick one and stick with it, since if you stay neutral, you won't get access to the light/dark items. I went light... I think of my bounty hunter as someone who wants to kill the people who deserve it but isn't interested in wanton destruction just for the sake of it.
  9. thanks for the replies! it might be a bit premature for me to be thinking about it while I've only got the 2 companions (eg: the one I'm fighting with and my ship companion off running missions). I suppose I'll stick with scavaging and bank the mats in case I start up an armstech character someday.
  10. currently, my level 18 bounty hunter is slicing/bioanalysis/scavaging slicing for the credits, obviously... I went bioanalysis because I've got an alt at about the same level with biochem, so I can mail over the mats that I gather and level it up twice as fast. I picked up scavaging figuring I could sell the mats on the GTN, but that seems like a bust. the market doesn't seem all that great for any of the gathering skills. would there be profit to had in picking up a mission crew skill instead of gathering? on my previous characters they kinda seemed like a money sink to support crafting skills, but maybe I was doing it wrong.
  11. my Jedi Knight is synth/archeology/slicing it works out pretty well... with the credits I make from slicing, I can just hop on the trade network when I need to make blues/epics.
  12. tbh, I don't really understand why they'd implement entirely new companions to resolve this rather than just taking the gender flag off same-sex romances. let characters romance the companions they want to romance, regardless of either of their genders.
  13. imperial agent imo I found all flavors of Jedi had pretty lacking storylines, tbh.
  14. can you explain that to me? because I don't get it at all. pre-LFG, you had to stand around in your respective capital cities and spam trade chat trying to find a group. post-LFG, you can queue up and then go about the world doing whatever you want while waiting. the only real change is that you don't have to run to the instance entrance with LFG, but that's a non-factor in SWTOR since all the instances are in the same place already. last night, someone was spamming the republic fleet channel for an hour looking for a healer... just, "LF1M healer for (I forget)" every 30 seconds. there was absolutely no socializing going on until I took the opportunity to make fun of him pointing out that with all the time he spent spamming, he could have just leveled a healer to 50.
  15. I'll never understand that argument at all. pre-LFG, you *had* to stay in IF/Ogrimaar/Shat in order to spam trade channel looking for a group. post-LFG, you can queue up and go do your dailies or farm solo while waiting on your queue.
  16. of all the problems with the market, that's the least of them.
  17. when raid encounters are designed under the assumption that most players are running x, y, and z addons, it's all a moot point. I'd just like to be able to move my action bars around and maybe know who's doing the most/least dps in a group.
  18. if the UI was an inch more customizeable, I wouldn't care. I'd really love like to move the player/target frames to the upper left corner, drag the chat box down to the lower left, and it would be nice to have the option of adding more action bars displayed without having to use key binds.
  19. 30 and empire. I played Republic, but the Jedi Consular class quest was a little too generic for me... the Empire quests seem to be a much different change of pace from your usual RPG-fare (gotta love a quest where your "best" option is killing slaves for rebelling instead of killing and torturing them)
  20. anyone else run into this? I was finishing up a quest in Dromund Kaas and the reward options were a commendation or a mod. I wasn't sure if the mod was an upgrade or not, so I pulled up my character sheet and ctrl + right-clicked on my blaster to see what I already had equipped. but when I closed that window, the quest reward window was gone. no items, no xp, just gone, and the NPC has no dialogue options for me. the quest itself is gone from my quest log, as if I had completed it. known issue, or am I doing something wrong? edit: I logged out and the "MISSION COMPLETE" dialogue box was back up when I logged back in
  21. it was a somewhat common theme in World of Warcraft that accounts would get compromised (via keyloggers, users giving out their information, whatever) and all their gear deleted + gold mailed off to a third party. it's just an extra layer of security.
