The (well founded) point is NO ONE should be FORCED to participate. When game companies start down that path they think THEY (not you) decide what you do with your play time. It sounds like you enjoy this event and that's great for you. But, when the NEXT event comes along and it interrupts and disrupts what you want to do with your play time, you might understand what the rest of us are talking about.
I've already cancelled my subscription because, like I said, when a company starts making decisions like this for you you are no longer a paying customer. You're just a payer (all notions of "customer" are gone).
