  1. I've returned after quite some time and am seeking a guild to reacclimate myself with. A bit of my history:

Day 1 player, got server first clears of EV and EC. Could have had KP, but our counterparts on Pub side did KP the night we did EV, and we swapped the next night. In the early days, I mained an Op healer, then switched to Pyro PT to demonstrate how broken that thing was. I took a break, and came back for S&V, now playing a Jugg/JK. I was super active in the jugg community and one of the most known and knowledgeable theorycrafters for the class back in the day. In that period, I posted some top-end fight parses, not just for Juggs, but in general. I took a break again after the fiasco that was Class Reps, and came back at the tail end of DF/DP in a more casual role.

None of that really matters anymore, since I don't know any of the new (to me) content, and learning the changed classes is going to take a bit. I'm looking for a place where I can get into some of the endgame content with good people. I have my three classes above at 75 and in hodgepodge 306 gear, but everything else is at 65 and wouldn't take too long to get up. No preference on Imp/Pub.

  2. Bleeds do not have a damage range... at least not that I have ever seen. So long as the circumstances remain constant, their damage is fixed.

    Controls

    • No relics equipped.
    • All class buffs
    • Mastery stim
    • No set bonuses
    • Sunder Armor and Beat Down debuffs on target (though both have no effect on DoTs)

Parse #1: Just Plasma Brand /// Also, ticks of just Overhead Slash here as well ; they never overlapped in this parse.

Parse #2: Plasma Brand and Overhead Slash.

Pare #3: Plasma Brand and Blade Storm.

Parse #4: Overhead Slash and Blade Storm

    http://parsely.io/parser/view/73362/0

I did not do a parse with all 3 ticking as I only get 1 tick of PB under the three stack with my current alacrity, and I wasn't testing so much for the damage buff as for the oddity with Overhead Slash buffing bleed ticks more than the others.

The 20 damage oddity continues here with PB bleed, but we learn where the source of the oddity is when looking at Parse #4. The base tick on Blade Storm is 177. When paired with Plasma Brand (2 stack buff), that jumps up to 181. When it is paired with Overhead Slash (still 2 stack buff), it jumps to 184. This damage increase only happens while the Overhead Slash bleed is ticking, and as I mentioned above, Beat Down was active throughout all of these tests.

Am I just blind? Did I waste time testing this when there is a tool-tip somewhere that explains this extra damage buff under the Burning Purpose bleed?

  3. I did some quick testing as best as I could, and the short answer is that it does not appear to be working properly. It's working, in so far as it is buffing our damage based on the number of bleeds on a target, but the value by which it is buffing our damage is not consistent.

Plasma Brand bleed tick with no other bleeds: 1237

Plasma Brand bleed tick with 1 other bleed (Blade Storm): 1269

Plasma Brand bleed tick with 1 other bleed (Overhead Slash): 1289

Plasma Brand bleed tick with 2 other bleeds (all three): 1321

To figure out if it's working properly, we should be able to divide the single bleed tick value by 1.03 and it should provide the same value as the 2 bleed tick value divided by 1.06 and the 3 tick value by 1.09. Obviously, given the oddity between the values depending upon which second bleed you are using, we can see that they don't line up.

    1237/1.03 = 1200.97

    1269/1.06 = 1197.17

    1289/1.06 = 1216.04

    1321/1.09 = 1211.93

I had the same debuffs on the target for each test, no proc relics or other inconsistent buffs.

I cannot see why there is a discrepancy between the PB ticks depending upon the second bleed effect applied.

  4. I'm still working on re-acclimating myself to Vengeance right now, so I haven't played much with Rage, but I don't imagine that it is significantly different than in days past.

Enrage is essentially part of the DPS rotation. You have two overarching patterns inside the rotation: One using Force Crush for Shockwave to buff Smash/Raging Burst, and the other using Enrage for the same purpose.

Most of your abilities lower the CD on Enrage so that it times out pretty much perfectly to buff every other Smash. See your level 32 passive ability Overpower.

In short, Enrage is not an "Oh ****, no rage: button. It is a core ability of the spec rotation.

Edited to correct some ability names.

  5. I am looking for a group to run with, on either side, that requires a rather unique schedule. I currently have my Jugg/Guardian DPS at 65 and in 208 gear, and am making my way up the gear chain as quickly as I can through the solo game. These would be my preferred classes, given my history with the class, but I can easily get other classes up and ready to go.

Dating back to pre-Harbinger days, I was server first on some NiM raids as a healer. I was, at one time, one of the top three Juggernaut/Guardian DPS in the world (read: on the boards), both on the dummy and in raids. I cleared the relevant content of the time that I played on Sorc/Scoundrel heals and Jugg/PT tank.

There seems to be increasingly few people around from the days of my prime, and given my personal reticence to jump blindly into an unknown situation, I find myself hard pressed for acquaintances.

The short of it is this: If I can find a group that can accommodate my unorthodox schedule, then I will devote the necessary time to perform at top-tier levels. Otherwise, I expect I will be around long enough to make sure my characters remain gear-relevant until such a time that I can find what I seek.

What I am seeking is a group able/willing to run on an alternating schedule week to week, over a two-week window. I can run Wed/Thu/Mon one lockout week, and Tue/Fri/Sat/Sun the next. While this may seem demanding, I can say this: In seven years of being bound by this scheduling restriction, every group in every MMO I have played has determined that it was in their group's best interest to accommodate this request simply because of what I bring to a group.

  6. I remember you from the mattmonkey days, you might remember me as lordbadtamaru though.

There was a pretty good cadre of Vig/Veng players at that time (and a few good Rage players as well). I do remember that name, and I've kinda trolled about off and on watching for that one patch that makes me fall in love with the class again, so I've somewhat kept up with your 3.0 work as well.

The guys that actually take the time to put a guide out for the general player base are always appreciated. I was more in it for the discussions leading up to the guides.

  7. I got a 220 mainhand and am doing almost a 6k. Not parsing on the 1mil cause it's stupidly short, and I've only been dummy parsing cause that's what people seem to be fixated on.

In boss parses I did HM Styrak and got a 5.4, I outdpsed everyone on the raid team (though I was wearing PVP gear while they were sort of shaving the edge as far as gear goes with 198s and 224 mixes)

That's how it's always been for us... On paper (dummy parses) we lack, but in the proper hands, more than simply viable in the real game. Though I feel that Styrak is one of the few fights (from my era) that we hold a pretty sturdy advantage on (in that our entire kit had a use). That whole raid was just good in general for Juggernauts/Guardians.

In 208s (been effectively gone since just before DF//DP NiM), I'm sitting at 5200, but I feel like I still don't quite have the feel down with the Plasma Brand single-proc Master Strike. Though how much is the proc changes and how much is adjusting to shorter timing windows with Alacrity, I'm not quite sure yet. I'll get the rotation mastered, but I doubt I'll have the gear to back it on the charts anytime soon.

  8. I'm curious if there are any left on this server/game that would even recall my name. I date back to launch on the origin server Soresu, and was last active, seriously, around the time of S&V. I came back briefly around DP/DF, and attempted a brief comeback for the last expansion, until some software issues put that to bed.

At one time (when the class was fun), I was highly regarded in the Juggernaut/Guardian community, specifically for work with Vengeance/Vigilance on the PvE end of things. For the past several weeks, I've been casually leveling my characters up to 60 while trying to track down players that I used to run with. I see all of two or three guild tags that I recognize any longer.

Having been largely unsuccessful in locating any of my old mates, I have turned to these forums in search of folks. Basically, I am looking for a community that, while we are in a bit of a content lull leading up to the next expansion, will allow me to regain my footing, while offering a home to raid come the xpac. Ideally, this will be among old friends, but if, as I fear, there are none left, I am game to start at the bottom and work my way up again.

Most of my focus has been on getting my Imp toons up to speed, but I do have a few 60s on the Pub side, and I have no real preference on faction.

  9. I have all ACs at 55 on Imp side, and several on Pub side. I am (was) kind of a big deal in RotHC, before I went away. I posted some top-o-the-world parses in 16m raids prior to my exit. I have just returned, with a friend. He plays a PT and Vanguard tank. We seek a group that will get allow us to get caught back up with the game with them, then sit back while we carry them to victory.

    Let me know.

  10. I am almost entirely sure that it does decrease the channel time on Master Strike, given how Berserk (w/e it is on this side) works in Carnage/Combat spec. That said, it would require so much more alacrity than it is worth to get our MS to a beneficial point.

That, and our big hitters are on fixed cool down timers, so pushing abilities out a bit faster wouldn't allow for more PB/OS/BS, so there is no way that it could offset the surge loss from stacking alacrity.

Edit: Oh, I thought I was already at the end of the thread. I guess this response comes a bit late. :o

  11. Personally I think its MOSTLY fine. Top up the dots on OHS and BS and we'd be alright.

While I would like to see the BS/OS dots become relevant, I would rather see us get some improvements in the form of in-combat toys (offensive cooldown, utility that isn't predicated upon someone failing, etc)

I think an OCD that makes bleeds do double damage for 10/20 seconds would be interesting, though it's one that just popped into my head as I typed it, so I haven't even begun to consider the balance implications of such an ability.

  12. Wishlist:

Plasma Brand becomes frontloaded (remove dot, put all damage into the first hit).

30% damage reduction to AoEs OR 30% surge bonus to Blade Storm and Plasma Brand.

My gear isn't even close to BiS, but putting all of Plasma Brand's Damage into the initial hit would give me an average of just under 8700 per hit, and almost 13k on crits (since it's one attack now, a crit would encompass the damage of a crit initial hit and crits on all the current DoT ticks). [using Kishek's parse: an average PB would be 8778 damage, and a crit as high as 14247] In PvE, it would usually come out to be a wash in regards to total damage (though it would assure threat pulling at the start of a fight), but that just seems wickedly overpowered for PvP, assuming no other changers were made to PB's damage.

(Disclaimer: I do not PvP in this game, at all, so my thought on such a change in regards to PvP is just from looking at damage numbers.)

  13. I see no valid critiques in your posts, all you do is point out one thing and say it is bad without explaining why it is bad. It doesn't contribute anything. If you think something is wrong, then stand up and point out why so others can either argue with you or see your point of view.

Then again, you seem to think that an ability that costs 5 rage but only spent 4 since it refunds 1 needs to be reworded. So I am not sure where we going with this.

The way I read that section, it read like you were saying that Shatter only requires 4 Rage to use. The suggestion was intended to be a constructive piece of advise to clarify that chart to minimize misunderstandings. Obviously, I know what the chart is trying to convey, but it does not, in my eyes, convey that information clearly. I'm sorry that you feel the need to get so defensive over this suggestion.

Regarding my Impale comment: It's pretty damn simple and not really up for debate. It is an inaccurate statement, and one only needs to look at any semi-competent Vengeance parse to see why. Shatter is the priority. it, combined with its bleeds, comprise almost 20% of a Vig/Veng parse's damage. Impale and its affiliated bleed is about 1-1.5% behind, when they are both used, on average, within a half second of their GCD.

I will grant that this gap has shrunk with 2.6 and the change in ability selection, but to laud Impale as "the most important ability and dot to maintain" is, frankly, wrong. It has situational priority over Shatter, certainly, such as the last boss in DF - Shatter's bleeds won't run their course on the droids during the clock phase, and as such, it would be better to use Impale for the upfront, burst damage that it provides. But at the base level, Shatter takes priority.

I will close my involvement in this thread by saying a few things: My disdain for Carl writing guides for classes that he is not an expert in goes back quite a ways, when he wrote those rotation guides on the forums. I don't dislike him (or you), but it rubs me the wrong way that a guide such as this would be presented with apparently no consultation done with players that happen to know more than a thing or two about their classes. I would be more than happy to have a discussion with Carl about whatever - he can be a fun one to go back and forth with. But you, I am done with. In this instance, you are nothing more than a liaison. You have nothing to offer a conversation about this topic aside from defensiveness and snide dismissal.

  14. I am seeing the same hate coming from the same people as last time, how cute. What is wrong with one guild writing all the class guides, as long as the information is good, don't see an issue.

Anyways, if there are actual legit criticisms contained in your posts, I am sure Carl will respond to them and edit as necessary.

There's no hate. The point, however, is that the information is not all "good." If it were, there would be no critique. Saying things like I quoted previously about Impale is not good information. It is bad, and about as bad a piece of misinformation as can be spread about Vigilance/Vengeance.

  15. Impale is your most important ability and dot to maintain.

    This is just amazing.

Also, reword this section. Shatter spends 5 Rage, and refunds one. It doesn't spend 4. It has a net cost of 4, but you need to spend 5 to activate the ability.

    Ability Cost: (most to least):

    Shatter (SH) – 5 cost – 4 spent

    Impale (IP) – 4 cost – 3 spent

    Force Scream (FS) – 4 cost – 3 spent

    Vicious Slash (VS) – 3 cost – 2 spent

Vicious Throw (VT)- 3 cost – 2 spent

    Ravage (RV)- 0 cost – 0 gained

    Force Push (FP) – 0 cost – 0 gained

    Smash – 0 cost – 1 gained

Vicious Throw (VT proc) – 0 cost – 1 gained

    Assault – 0 cost – 2 gained

Saber Throw (ST)- 0 cost – 3 gained

Sundering Assault (SA)- 0 cost – 7 gained

Edit for more: The video has several places where: 1. The rotation is terrible, and 2. it doesn't even follow the guide's suggestions.

  16. Yes cause a first time go Level Cap Sentinel is going to have loads of Credits to spend on the 500k -1mil Armoring/mods/enhancements youll find on the bloated and overpriced GTN.

Im not asking for alternatives to the Vendor. Im not shocked at all that I ask advice for something specific and everyone just goes off on a tangent about how I should just skip basic comms. How I should just skip right up to Elites and Ultimate Comms. How I should look on the GTN. Or the hell with the 69s. Work with 66s.

Im currently running a computer that will not handle Operations. It struggles going anywhere near two groups of NPCs shooting at each other. Im not going to knowningly and purposely be a pain in the *** to those running Ops until I can get a better rig. Ive weighed my options. Ive looked at the time I have on my hands and what will work for me and my situation. Currently thats Basic Comms. Now regardless of if thats optimal for you. The OP laid out that Im looking at Basic Comms. Now if you cant offer advice within that narrow field. Please dont post.

You didn't ask a single question in your OP. You made a statement about possibly having to switch from Combat to Watchman. Your comment was addressed when people said that all three specs were viable.

You stated in your first post that you were facing both HM FPs and Operations, then you backpedal and say you can't run operations. If you aren't running Ops, then your gear doesn't matter. Simple as that. When you get around to venturing into operations (where gear matters), you can do SM TfB and SV in the gear that drops from level 50 HMs, particularly if you supplement with the few good mods/enhancements that you can find in basic comm gear.

Beyond that, come back when you drop the attitude and I'm sure people would be more than happy to provide the help that your narrow mind craves at that point in time. Alternately, you could phrase the question that you want answered in the form of an actual question, so as to minimize the chance of people addressing different points in your rambling in the assumption that what they are providing information for is what you are asking for.

  17. I was mostly being facetious with my last paragraph. Accoring to Carlos from <Hatred>, the co-author of all of Dulfy's spec guides, most of the top parsers don't upload their parses because they don't care about hitting the highest numbers. On another note, I've been experiencing some significant lag on the dummy as of late, so much so that my APM has dropped to 34.6 and some of my abilities aren't even registering, :( And good ole' Kishek has put up a live parse at 3822 here http://www.torparse.com/a/576826/4/0/Damage+Dealt

Ignore 90% of everything that is said/typed by Carl. I like the dude well enough, but he thinks that he is the authority on everything. He is a good Operative. He knows the bare-bones basics of Jugg/Guardian. His guide on Dulfy's site was wrong, and that is galling because he has one of the best Juggernaut DPS in the game in his raid group to draw from, but for some inexplicable reason, he did not.
