  1. Having talked to friend who work at EA redwood city, they complained that Bioware (EA TX) didn't talk to Mythic (EA VA) or any of the remaining Origin group (UO). That said, even mythic took everything that was great about DAoC RvR and tossed it out the window when they made WAR, moveable crafted siege engines became static pads, destructible and scalable walls were remove. Character development and equipment were dumbed down. The list goes on. Problem lays with the faction system, games like Aion tried a pseudo 3 way system with a npc faction, DAoC RvR worked well with a true 3 way system but the hibbies were always under populated. RFOs 3 way system was lopsided. Open PvP systems, like AC Darktide, DAoC Mordred, Lineage 2, EVE, UO, etc which offer truer form of PvP were better then the /stick assist trains that DAoC RvR evolved into.
  2. Didn't say that they weren't mitigated, i just said they were different damage types, as for cast times being different. There as a couple skills that differ slightly in caste time, but I think its mainly due to animation spool up, for some reason some of the sage skills take longer to reconise that you've stopped moving before starting a stupidly long casting animation. With the sorc its usually stop ssst, zap, with the cast time starting as soon as you stop and hit the button. Honestly I don't want to see any class nerfed as I believe its the slippery slope that kills a game. If sages were brought into line with Sorcs they'd have an equal, and its a stupidly easy fix.
  3. I hear Austin is nice this time of the year.. I recommend Hornady critical defense max... That said.. I've played both sorc and sage and the sorc is marginally better due to insta damage, spells with the correct cast times, non animation delay, etc. The problem is that they are not true mirrors due to cosmetic fluff causing them to act worse with longer animations.
  4. sorcs != sages If sorcs had the sages non insta damage, longer cast, less effective duration skills on a easier to resist damage type there might be less hate, but if you look at all the threads out there its all sorc hate, with sages only getting a token mentioning.
  5. to bad it was ahead of its time.. the engine they used didn't do the game justice... but after playing it through beta and a horrible launch they nerfed my poor FA duel wielding, black omniplast armor wearing, rebel adventurer into the ground I kind of gave up on it. Though i loved hiding under the bridge in the neutral area in LEET form killinf random people...
  6. Considering Arenanet is under ncsoft, a Korean based dev/pub is the reason thy can be innovative with pvp, NC and other Korean based games are geared toward a different gamer segment, one thats highly competitive and those the power grinds and open pvp. Lineage, Lineage 2, Aion, and blade & soul, all have involuntary pvp, and pvp is a major component. Even other korean pub games, like Atlantica, RF online, etc show this trend.
  7. well honestly, pvp in eve while awsome on a grand scale of everything is player driven.. is rather boring at times.. its sad that while beating on a moon goo pos that half the fleet is alt tabbed playing world of tanks to get their pew vee pew fix...
  8. once you get to 50-60m you've run out of things to really train, at 72m I can fly all races t1 sub caps, amarr, and caldari carriers and dreads, exhumers, ore command ships. I have all basic gunnery to 5, all t2 guns of all sizes, large pulse spec 5, etc.... a character specialized in HACs at 20m sp can fly that Heavy Assault Cruiser just as well or even better than me, same with a teir 1 BS.. The most expensive ship I pvp in is a T2 fitted Alpha Mael, or a Alpha Support Scorpian, and thats only for alliance ops. In general pvp, Im in a cheap raptor, manti, ferox, harbi, cyclone, or any other t1 cruiser/bc.. Its acually fun to give a bunch 2 month old characters unlimited rifters and tell them to go attack this alliance.. oh wait.. thats TEST.. those TESTies are terrible at the game.
  9. lol.. I ran halfway across the world from him once (run spec ftw).. I mainly played on Harvestgain, on played DT when i wanted to be an ***
  10. EVE pvp is highly situational an example, I'm currently at 72mil sp, at the time of this fight i was probably 60m or so... we were running a shield cruiser, bc gang of about 40 5 scimmies, vulture, 2 onyx, falcon, bb, 5mixed frigs for tackle, a ferox, rest drakes and canes, we run into a 30-35 man Armor BS gang mosly tempests, megas, geddons, with 2 scorps supported by guardians. result 24 kills 8 loses, 1.4billion isk in kills 400m in loses (falcon). most of the t1 ships were less then 20m sp, the t2 were 07-08 players, most of their gang were 05-06 players, while they had the ewar advantage, our logi was better, and we shifted primary to keep their logi off balance.
  11. Im dating myself with this, but the vitae dp, and body system for Asherons Call would work well also, where you drop your highest cash value items first, on darktide you'd see naked people with nodrop weapons trying to get to their stuff back
  12. the best thing about eve is the don't fly it if you cant afford to lose it system, or as most 0.0 pilots put it, surprise butsecks.. one aspect of eve that beats any mmo is the spreadsheets in space component, everything in the game, from mods, to ships, outposts, and the materials are either made, manufactured, built, or harvested by a player. Everything from shuttles to titans are built by players, corporations, or alliances. With this you run into another aspect of pvp, corporate espionage, social engineering, scamming, and other forms of piracy. I got a friend who makes billions selling "slightly damaged" "used" faction ships.
  13. my Cyclone is fueled by your rage... jk That said, I've seen 200k sp noobs take 60m sp bitter vets. The trick is how you specialize. If you look at the history of the goonfleet and TEST, they all started out as noobs in rifters and were never taken seriously until their rifters blotted out the suns in bob space. In eve you get all flavors of pvp, ranging from piracy in tech 1 frigs, small gang HAC and BC roams, to capital ship and support ship sov campaigns that last weeks with up to 1100 combatants in a system. (node crashing ftl), As much as i love eve, I got tried of sitting on a titan in a alpha maelstrom in a 600 person support fleet for hours listening to dbrb's dog barking "orders" on mumble while looking at the **** links posted in local char on the ingame browser... only find out there's no cyno and we have to go home...
  14. Actually according to a friend at EA redwood city, Bioware (EA Austin) didn't want to use any existing EA CS stuff and got all new, including a euro based call center, CS stuff for themselves, and they never talked to EA Virgina (mythic). So the CS staff are mostly new hires and not from ultima/war/daoc/etc. teams.
  15. I like to play these small group MMOs as an alternative.. I like having the freedom to log in and solo stuff for 15 minutes or duo a quest with a friend. I've played several MMOs and most are grind fests or require a large organized group to do anything. Spending an hour sitting on a titan with a 600 ship alpha fleet waiting for a bridge just to shoot at a station for a few hours at 3 fps isn't fun.
