I'm going to have to disagree with some of the people here. If anything the SI storyline favors the LS path, mostly because of Ashara. If you expected to be able to defect to the Republic you were obviously going to be disappointed (no classes can defect to the other side), and if you wanted to play a character that liked the Republic and hated the Empire you should have rolled Jedi. My Sith Inquisitor saw some good in the Sith Order, even though there's also a lot of bad. He wanted to reform the Empire to make it more ethical (and your talks with Ashara really focus on this). One thing I loved to do was when my character would cite parts of the Sith Code to justify doing LS actions. A LS SI is all about finding an ethical way to follow the Sith way of life. Most advanced classes can heal/tank or DPS, but those advanced classes can only do DPS. Is there enough incentive to do those classes to compensate for the lack of versatility?

If you get DS points, it cancels out LS points. Your alignment is determined by your LS points minus your DS points. If you're asking if you can grind DS points and get the best of both worlds, no that's not possible.

I've noticed that on certain planets (Balmorra and Alderaan specifically) the game runs pretty slowly, while on other planets (such as Tatooine) it runs just fine. Anyone know why this is? I have the graphics settings as low as possible and I'm running the game on this via Windows 7. I'm curious if my graphics card is a bit outdated. (If this is the wrong place to post this then a mod can move it)
