  1. I do But I'm still hopeful that this new trilogy is all about the Empire, its heroes, and their heroic struggle against those Rebel anarchists!
  2. Trailer looks awesome. Especially enjoyed that frightened stormtrooper. Finally we are shown their human side! Not a big fan of the lightsaber but a single minor detail like that won't ruin a movie for me hehe Judging from the trailer the movie could be great. Then again, episode I's trailer looked great too
  3. Hunt them down! All of them!
  4. Everyone that has ever PvP'ed knows (or should know) well geared healing Operatives/Scoundrels were the best PvP healers by far, and were the most survivable class to boot. Re-balancing their healing output downwards was inevitable, the only surprise here is that it took over a year for them to finally do it.
  5. Yes WAR was utterly mismanaged at the top levels. Still, I believe a free to play conversion could have saved it. But yeah, they would have had to invest a little first. Some of the bad design errors in WAR for PvP were also in SWTOR (example the huge gear gap in pvp vs newly 50's and 50's in min-maxed pvp gear, and the emphasis on CC) but SWTOR actually corrected this partially. And since SWTOR isn't focused on PvP, the PvP flaws in any case don't affect the game too much. ps. anyone else think its quite underhanded that 6 months ago they "removed 6 month subscription payment options due to lack of interest in those options" only to announce the closing of the game 3 months later. The reason for removing the 6 month payment option was obviously because they knew full well the game would be closing down, but they kept it to themselves, possibly with the motive of milking the subscribers for a couple more months.
  6. I suppose everyone has their own opinion on this. I feel that the minimum life-expectancy of a triple A MMO should be expected to be at least 8 years. DAOC (ironically, WAR's predecessor) is still alive and kicking, 12 years after launch. WoW is in its 9th year. Ultima Online is 16 years old. SW: Galaxies lasted 8 years, and was only cancelled because of the release of another SW MMO (this one! ), otherwise it would have continued. City of Heroes/Villains lasted respectively 9 and 8 years. Asheron's Call is active for 13 years now even though barely anyone plays it. Even Matrix Online, one of the biggest MMO flops ever, lasted over 4 years, and they shut it down when the game only had 500 active players left. Which is a far cry from WAR which still has many thousands of players.
  7. So, as is known for a while now, EA will not prolong the Warhammer license it has with Games Workshop. Warhammer Online (aka WAR) will close it servers before the end of the year. Even though I quit WAR years ago when the game went into life support-mode with no developer team to speak of and no prospect of further improvement to the game, I secretly always hoped they would make it free to play so I could play it again as my second "weekend MMO". Alas this is not the case, and the best PvP experience I had in any MMO is going to be lost to time. While I personally am not really affected by the closing down of Warhammer, the attitude of EA in this is simply shortsighted and crap. Even if the playerbase in WAR is small, these are still players who have invested a lot of time, money and effort into that game. When you play an MMO, you can usually expect them to be around for a very, very long time, which is part of the reason why people are willing to invest so much in them. EA should have continued the WAR service as a common decency to its still active players, to show them they are reliable and even if a game falls short of the profit mark, they will continue support. For me personally, this has sapped my will to continue subscribing for SWTOR. Can we expect the same treatment from EA if the game falls short of their profit mark in 2 years from now? I fear so, which has me looking at other prospective upcoming MMO's that are not made under EA's flag.
  8. You can thank the crappy early version of the engine that can't handle many characters. So they put very restrictive caps on zones to ensure performance is okey. It's almost insulting to see that Elder Scrolls Online manages to handle 200 players on screen in a fight (and there can be multiple of such fights in a single zone at the same time) atm in beta.
  9. Language barriers are a non-issue since it affects both factions equally. RP servers usually attract a more mature audience, not a younger one. I also don't believe there is an age discrepancy between the factions. What I do think, is that the people who enjoy PvP edge slightly more towards the "dark and militaristic" Imperial side, while the friendly ambiance of the Republic attracts more exclusive PvE'ers, resulting in a bigger "pvp-pool" for the Empire. Atm faction size on The Progenitor is roughly equal, yet I see more regular Imperial players that I deem good in warzones than regular Republic players that I deem good, and warzones often have incomplete Republic teams. Playing on both sides of The Progenitor, I do not see a lot of difference in quality between PUG teams. On both sides you sometimes end up in a good team, and sometimes in a horrible clueless team. The main difference is the Republic only has a few premades (Salvation, Some spanish named guild, and BRC Republic mostly) while the Empire has more, who are also more frequently active.
  10. Assassins are pretty hard for VG/PT's. An important aspect is to have enough of a health buffer. If you go all glass cannon with less than 30.000 min/maxed health, his initial burst will set you back so far it will be very hard to recover. While fighting, its key to recognize the force shroud in time to not waste any elemental attacks or especially CC. Also, don't pop all your defensive cooldowns at once. I see a lot of Powertechs panicking and popping Energy Shield and Hold the Line at the same time. Start with using Energy Shield and try to kite him as well as possible. When Energy Shield runs out, pop hydraulic overrides/hold the line and he will be hard pressed to do much damage to you. Don't backpedal, but also don't turn your back to him while in melee range. Finally, don't use the 3 stack flamethrower unless you don't have hold the line active and are outside of melee range but inside of flamethrower range. The good thing with fighting Sins is, if you loose no shame on you and no glory for him. He is playing the easy-mode dueling class after all. But if you win, you have the right to feel pretty awesome.
  11. No, Clan Fergo has vanished into nothingness about 5 months ago, its remaining warriors having spread over various mercenary guilds.
  12. Encountered this as well today. Operative planted a bomb before he became visible.
  13. Obviously expanded class stories would be great. However, if the choice is between 10 hours of additional content for each class, with individual expanded class stories and companion stories, or 40 hours of additional content for each class, with a shared "galactic" story, I'd go for the latter. I think they did well with Makeb.
  14. I wonder if it is force shroud (immunity to all tech and force) that allows sins to do this? Kinda makes sense that the arena poison counts as tech damage, considering all npc&player poison attacks do. If so, a simply solution would be to make the arena poison a different damage type that can't be defended against at all. Though I still feel there should be some stealth detection increasing buffs that spawn after a couple of minutes of no fighting activity.
  15. What a joke. Why not just do away with talent trees altogether and force players to just pick a tree and automatically get all the talents in it? Powertech's using Ion Cylinder give up a lot of damage potential for that. A flat -5% damage, a further -6% elemental/internal damage, -5% tech damage for using a shield generator, they loose out on the auto-crit railshot which greatly hampers their burst, and they loose out on the passive heat venting which makes heat management actually challenging and hampers dps. As a bonus they also loose 15% movement speed. As a whole you are looking at at least 20% less DPS. For all that, the only things they gain is -5% damage taken, a bit more armour, 20/20 shield chance and the ability to guard. Why were you complaining?
  16. I don't like the humongous amount of limitations, it feels incredibly artificially bottlenecked. 1 bounty per day per character, kingpins on a 1 week lockout per character, a weekly 10.000 or so reputation cap... Due to the limitations this event heavily punishes players without alts.
  17. The gal to actually pretend you are the victim of your unjust teammates tsss. Had an operative pull the same stunt in an arena match today. It was a fair match but we were better, killed 3 of them but he managed to escape. He let us wait the full timer, after which we killed him when the gas came. Second round we tried to focus him, but he popped his stealth move pretty much at the start. Same result, and we still won the match. So he wasted everybody's time, drawing the match out by 7 or so minutes. It's simply a form of griefing, nothing less.
  18. At least the poor underperforming Assassins that people laugh about in PvP so much for being such an underdog class get a well deserved buff to their burst with more Maul damage;)
  19. Over the years I've learned that about a year before every MMO launch, a humongous effort is made by a special PR-team to promote the game with false promises, over-hyped features and flat out lies. WAR had especially mastered this (Remember that Paul Barnett scumbag?) but every MMO has done so, including SWTOR. I'm looking forward to giving ESO a try, but I'm not holding my breath, when an MMO looks too good on paper, it probably doesn't turn out quite so. I mean, from the ESO website and screenshots/video's you apparently get: - An amazing looking free roaming world; - Awesome indepth crafting system; - Skill-based combat; - Complete character customisability; - Epic 3-way realm vs realm battles with a control mechanic over provinces; - Adventure zones; - Fully voiced NPC's; - Personal Stories - etc..etc..
  20. Deception Assassin burst is already on the brink of being overpowered in PvP, how is it that the development team considers buffing that already very potent aspect of the class even further? Especially since I've never ever heard a sin complain about how their burst was too low. DPS Assassins already overshadow DPS Operatives in PvP who fill a similar role. This will only widen the gap.
  21. The hybrid spec they talk about is the 11/35 spec I believe. So Shieldtech up to Oil Slick, rest in AP. I've toyed with the spec you linked some time ago. It's quite fun, but you give up a lot of really good talents high up in the AP tree for the charge. Atm I'm playing full AP but in ion cylinder (10/36/0). Same setup as you, so with dps gear + shield generator. Not really a hybrid, but more of a tough DPS that can also guard someone when needed. Flexible, and I like it. Compared to your hybrid it does very respectable damage with decent burst (immolate + the extra shoulder rockets), and less active/situational survivability but more passive survivability (30% AOE and 30% stun damage reduction vs jet charge and oil slick). I like how we have some options still that provide us with some flexibility. Unlike some of the whiners on these forums would have us believe, none of the AP/Shieldtech/Ion Cylinder combo's are overpowered in any way. They are effective, but you do make significant sacrifices. The damage loss is quite significant in all cases, at least 10 to 15% (-5% from ion cylinder, -5% elemental/internal damage from not using HEGC, -5% tech damage from using a shield generator), probably more around 20% due to the cylinder restrictions (no passive heat venting, no auto critting railshots) and a further reduction due to taking defensive talents over offensive ones (for example combust over railloaders) and you loose out on a lot of burst potential as well. For that, you get a roughly 10% passive survivability boost and the ability to guard someone. However, in just as many cases where that pays off, you get into situations where that extra burst and dps that you gave up would have been more useful to the team.
  22. That's a shieldtech talented ability, most powertechs don't have it. My advice was more general.
  23. You have 2 roles you can fill really well. You can either defend an objective, and survive long enough for backup to help. Or you can fill a more direct team support role. Guard players under attack, use your taunts, disrupt enemy players with your many stuns and force push, and abuse your free AOE snare non-stop.
  24. No, this guy: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Boba_Fett Considering topics about blaster rifles for bountyhunters/powertechs keep popping up since pretty much beta, it's obviously something a significant amount of people want. Customisability is important in MMO's, and being restricted to only one weapon just doesn't make any sense, especially since several other classes do get a pick between different weapons. (example: juggernaut/guardian can wield either a vibrosword or a lightsaber) It's not just powertechs though, I imagine there are a lot of jedi guardians who would love to use a saberstaff, or assassins who would love to use a single lightsaber without being locked out of abilities. The argument that one needs to be able to visually identify classes is moot too since the implementation of adaptive cartel armor sets and the class symbols you can now enable above characters. Why weapon options haven't become a legacy unlock yet is beyond me.
  25. While many episodes had significant action (without blood, and mostly vs droids) the main target audience was what, 10-14? And it showed. Even the darkest episodes weren't really dark, at least not to me. Plotlines were generally fairly simplistic, good for kids, but not really adult material, with plot mysteries like who the dark jedi was who tried to frame Asoka (sp?) that were so obvious that I assume the average adult could unravel after 5 minutes (at least I could). So yeah, hope this new series caters to a bit more mature audience. I hope its like the harry potter series where the books/movies grow in intensity and in how dark they are with the original target audience.
