I was think about having speeder races implemented in the game. This would be awesome feature. With that addition, our speeders can be upgraded like our spaceships. And lets say, if we increase the speed of the speeder, so does it in the actual game itself (traveling). Some of the challenges on the courses can be power-ups and power-downs; have these randomly generate on the map. This will insure a dynamic race! Example: a power up can range from having extra speed for a short time to being invincible to an attack/terrain/power-down for x amount of seconds. The power-downs will let the player have negative affects. Exmaple: Stuns, blinds (or drunken or both). Both types of powers will have the same animation when they spawn, this way they can see it coming and give them a option to skip it or drive above it. So in some sense its a gamble. Terrain would effect the speeders. Have creatures spawn on the map, if creatures hit the speeder you take a certain effect like slowdown and confusion(makes your speeder go left when your trying to go right, let this work with the mouses too). {updated} Have the speeders have a damage meter on speeder that would require players to slowdown to reduce the heat of the engine or else it goes on fire and have to wait 10 seconds for a bot to repair the issue. Have some class abilities for players; whether its to cheat or protect.
