  1. Best Buy puts a big sign in EVERY store saying that anything you buy in the stores earns you 10 points. Collect 100 points and get a free laptop. This points program is only good for a week. Then the night before the program ends, Best Buy puts an ad in the newspaper that the program is ending, and by the way, you need to use your points by the end of that night.

Also those who got the free laptops are standing outside the store gloating, cheering and booing refusing to let the others try to talk to customer service; yelling, "LOL it was right in the paper, do some research!"

taken from another post earlier, but is spot on.

    ----

Taken from an earlier post, but describes this situation perfectly.

  3. I had to work the last two days leading up the end of the event. By the time I would get home from the gym and running, I'd take a shower and crash. Yeah, it's my fault for not turning in my DNA but they least they could have done was keep the Jawa merchant there a little while longer. I'm a casual player like many other people, so I don't see any imbalance or hardship by keeping a simple NPC around for a few more days.

    You're absolutely right.

The only blow back is from people who want top dollar for the crystals they plan on selling.

BW has no obligation to bring the vendor back, but it would be a great gesture since there clearly was some misunderstandings about the event vs. event vendor end time.

If they don't, I won't feel ripped off or anything. The current situation just leaves me with a bad taste.

  4. I'm surprised it get to page 4 before someone posted this.

YOU HAD A WEEK ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE THAT THE EVENT WAS GOING TO END.

Don't be sad you didn't get to gouge people on DNA samples

Event to gain DNA samples ending is different than the vendor to turn them in disappearing. If it were obvious they were tied together, why did BW feel the need to clarify the vendor was going away a few hours before?

Bringing the vendor back for people to spend their DNA samples would hurt no one.

You can be mad all you want, but my request to BW is just that. Has nothing to do with you and you wanting your items to be as rare as possible. I did the event as well, and would like to turn in my samples.

I had IRL engagements the past few days, and like most other MMOs, assumed I could turn in my samples when I got back today.

Now that this precedent is set, we all know the vendors for events will go away when the event ends. This can be cited now. But for a first time thing, BW should temporarily put the vendor back in the game.

edit: Also, BW, please understand that anyone arguing against this just wants a higher price for their green black crystals. Nothing more.

  5. Optimzing your keybinds is an never ending process. Frankly I wish they allowed us to save our keybind settings and recall them as there is no setup that is perfect for PVP, Raiding, and Questing. The only key is to make a list of all your most important skills and placing them in close proximity to your left hand. I know a lot of people use WASD or ESDF for movement but I only use my mouse to move to give me more keybinds. The best setup is one so you can reach all your key abilities without looking at the keyboard as you shouldn't take your eyes from the screen. However you won't be able to keybind everything and really it isn't necessary. I always have a few abilities like cooldowns or health pots that I click. After that it is just trial and error to figure out what works for you.

The most important thing to remember when switching keybinds is that you will be terrible until you adjust. I usually use PVP until my new keybindings are burned into my memory. I'm sure my teammates curse my name while I'm relearning but it's better than doing it in a raid. Once you've gotten used to your new keybinds you will never want to go back.

Do you have a lot of problems tab targeting in pvp? I've wanted to move movement solely to the mouse, but tab seems to be screwy sometimes.

  6. This one from the 17th of April also shows the announcement that the event will end the 24th as well as the fact that the vendor would disappear at maintenance.

Also, you could have asked on your fleet when you were farming and i guarantee someone would have been able to tell you; thus your "Im to busy to stay informed so cater to me" excuse is void. Your own ignorance and refusal to check dev tracker or stay informed is not BW's fault

    [EDIT]

One other thing ill forget your immature ad hominem attack in suggesting i don't work for a living. Ive been working at least 40 hours a week since 16 and I am now taking graduate level courses at a large university. I still have time to stay informed.

Did you miss the part where it said "Update 4/23"? If you look close, that's where you'll see the vendor info.

  7. Do people generally rely on keys around WASD plus a combination of shift or control?

Yes, to a degree. Some more than others. For instance, I have my Get Out of CC Free button tied to Shift + W.. That way, since I'm already going to want to be running, I just have to hit shift and the button where my finger already is. It's an instant.

  8. It's all a matter of just getting used to. Figure out what rotations you need, and what circumstantial quick buttons you need, and gradually move to a system where you're only using the keyboard to get them. Start one ability at a time, don't go all in or you'll just end up frustrated and confused.

Baby steps on to the elevator.

  9. I commented on this in another thread, but I also don't understand the obsession with EA stock reports. To me it's pretty simple - if the game is enjoyable, you keep playing. If it stops becoming fun, you stop playing. I couldn't care less what EA's quarterly results are.

Do these people base all their decisions this way? "Hey Bob, what do you want to drink? Coke or Pepsi." "Let me log onto CNN's financial pages and see which one has a higher stock price and had the best quarterly P/E ratio. Then I'll tell you what I'd like to drink."

I disagree. Players have a vested interest in their MMO succeeding or not succeeding. Player population trends and outlooks play a huge roll in the player experience. It's not shocking to find players interested in financial numbers.

  10. OK then. The inaction in this case was not keeping informed about the status of the event. The consequences of that inaction is that the vendor was removed before players had the opportunity to spend their DNA samples.

See, now you're making it about the issue at hand instead of an over-generalization. Let's keep it this way.

It's reasonable that the notice on the forums was enough of a warning. Granted, I'd have rather it been explained when the event end date was first announced, and not as an after thought the night before (vendor going away with event when you can gain DNA).

The difference between you, and I, is that I also find it reasonable to consider the warning inadequate to the larger player base. Now that a precedent has been set, this event can be cited when dealing with a later event. The event vendor clearly leaves when the event to obtain event items ends.

Do I deserve to vendor coming back for me to buy items? No.

Should I expect it and be upset if it doesn't happen? No.

I simply request it, and have posted my reasoning. BW can take it or leave it. They owe me nothing. I get that.

In my opinion, the solution to this issue is to turn it into a learning experience for both player base and BW.

Putting the vendor back in for a few days is what I'd like to see happen.

  11. No you got the analogy all wrong. A more appropriate one would be:

Best Buy puts a big sign in EVERY store saying that anything you buy in the stores earns you 10 points. Collect 100 points and get a free Laptop. This points program is only good for a week. ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON. I'm /thread'ing this right here.
