  1. I am all for making new animations for all classes, not just the Force classes. I believe it would allow a point of customization that people would be quick to purchase.

Hm. I've not seen the other classes in depth, in truth. What sorts of other animations could be purchased for...Trooper for example?

  2. Simple option. Add a purchasable Sith Style and Jedi Style item that, when consumed, allows you to toggle your characters animations between the Republic and Empire variations for Lightsaber combat.

More advanced option. Create new animations from scratch and use the same concept.

I'd like my Sith to be a little more elegant, is all.

  3. If we're just talking skins of existing companions, then... yeah, I can see that. I rather like that. I'd totally buy new droids. Get astromechs (ranged tanks ala T7), medical droids (healers), perhaps war droids (for DPS or melee tanking)...

I don't think they need extra plot, though. Make them like the ship droids. Sending them on crew skill missions wouldn't really affect much either -- it's not like you'd be able to send any additional crew out.

I like the idea of them being purchases for your ship more than actual storydriven "Companions.". Good thinking.

  4. Hmmmm...

I've made 14.000,000 credits on my warrior who's barely 22 by selling Unlocks.

-Strong enemies often trounce me if I'm not questing with my girlfriend.

-I'm hardly doing the greatest amount of damage.

-I spend all my Planetary Comms on Mods for my Valiant Jedi CM Armor, which barely do anything and still get outclassed by greens

-I tried PvP once and barely did anything.

So. I have an abundance of money. Big whoop. I'm not an insta-level 55. I'm not hauling *** in FPs. I'll likely never outclass or outgear an Op-geared Juggernaut.

The only "Win" I get is that I can afford...Oh yeah, Rare Vanity stuff from the CM and more Mods which help keep the economy turning on the GTN.

  5. It's an interesting idea, certainly. Buying droid companions does have a certain appeal... but I imagine it'd be a lot of work for the developers, especially to make sure they were balanced with other companions. That said, if they did it, I'd definitely get them.

Well the coding for most abilities is already in the game. It would essentially be copy-pasting, in essence. Say, for example the Healer Droids - Malavai or Docs abilities and placing them in a new shell. The animations, the abilities, the vocals, even down to the sound of footsteps, is already in game. So it comes down to giving it a companion AI which is already a formulated and tested code. :) Time consuming, yes. But a real moneymaker.

  6. Hmm, I do like the idea of having a small selection of generic droid companions available in the Cartel Market, very nice for those that hate their starter companion or want a certain type earlier. :) I do have some reservations about this suggestion, though:

    1. IMHO, scaling armor is a bit too much, especially because it is something that is not available by any means for normal companions (including the droids like T7). Also, if someone really wants a droid Companion -- they can always level Cybertech and make their own parts. It is a really useful crew skill to have, anyway. So I think it would work fine if they came in blues that were anywhere from level 1-50 according to the level you were when you bought the droid.

    2. I am leery of them adding more droid companions because they are so generic. As useful as they might be, I guess I would rather not encourage Bioware to go this route of easy, but probably bland, companions. I didn't play any KOTOR games so HK is about as interesting to me as one of these generic droid companions that you suggest, which is to say, not at all. I would prefer that the next companion(s) they add are something that is not another droid. I realize a lot of people like HK-type companions, but now how about something for those that don't, y'know?

Just my 2 credits. In a perfect world, Bioware could deliver generic droid companions AND some more interesting human-like ones, but my optimism does not extend quite that far. :p Though I admit, it would be very tempting sometimes to ditch Kaliyo for a Custom Imperial Security Droid . . . ;)

I appreciate the points you've made and I can't really put any of them to fault. I'll try to justify my reasonings for you.

    1) You're right, with Cybertech its very easy to gear a companion. I did consider that myself having experience with my T7. However the reasoning comes from the fact that, if you're paying real money for it, it should have a little bit of a bonus of sorts that isn't really gamebreaking, and again, more for convenience. Otherwise, I suppose they could just sell Droid reskins of existing companions. That might be an easier route, though it would be interesting...In a bad way, seeing someone do the Vette romance line with a Imperial Destroyer Droid. -Shudder-.

    2) Thats a fair point. I suppose they wouldn't be added to the game, per say. Rather, more like Mods or a form of DLC which just let you add a little bit of flavour to your experience to your liking. By all means, if you dislike droids, just keep the companions that there are. :)

    Hope that explained my reasoning.

  7. So, companions are an integral part of the game. They're what brought me to the game, and partially, I enjoy the depth they provide to the playerbase as they quest and do the side missions.

So, I see a market oppurtunity.

They way I see it, there is a practical -Catalogue- of droid models already available in game, complete with talking and attack animations, death animations, idle animations. Practically ready to be reused as a companion for the more techy of us.

Each one should be a one time purchase either for character/ account with the cost upscaled accordingly for each option. Around about the 1500CC mark per character, 3000 for account wide. Upon purchase, you get a consumeable which can be used or sold on the GTN, and, on use, adds a new Companion to your Crew window which can be summoned.

One gripe I had with using HK-51 at low levels was the gear he came with was scaled to 50. Not complaining too heavily, but that sort of destroyed the point of him at lower levels where droid armor is like Hens teeth. Instead, as a little bonus, you can purchase, or include with the purchase of the droid, a sort of Upscaling, 1-55 set of sort of "Heirloom" gear, I believe the term in this game is Legacy.

Since droid parts can't be equipped to other characters, this stops them being removed and placed on alts, thus bypassing the legacy armor system ingame for the impatient. Of course their weapons and armor should probably say "Requires -Insert droid name here-." and are "Bound."

Each droid should fulfill a particular role once aqquired, using move-sets/ ability frames from companions that perform particular roles wonderfully. For example.

-Rewired Tythonian Seeker droid/ Custom Imperial Security droid - Melee tank/ dps. Think Khem'Val or Scourge.

-Mobile Imperial/ Republic Medical droid. Healer/ Ranged dps. - Malavai quinn/ Mako.

And so on and so forth. So, in effect they become companions that people can pick and choose. For example, if someone wishes to use a healer companion on a Jedi Knight, but don't want to wait for Doc? No problem. Just a one time purchase from the market and you're set with a companion who gears themselves practically, allowing you to pick those lovely Planetary commendations for upgrading their or your weaponry!

Is this P2W? Of course not. Companions were never integral to PvP or PvE on the scale of Ops and Warzones, so how does this make it any different to having a companion already? No bonus to damage, or xp, or health, or anything like that.

Of course these are purely "static" for questing and comfort purposes anyway, and the resources required to voice entire cutscenes and code side quests is an unnecesary leisure. If people want that, I'm sure they'd be happy to stick with the basic companion quests as they are. Of course, they should have sayings when killing an enemy, attacking, low on health and stuff, to keep that level of atmosphere.

This will probably get overlooked, but I see a good oppurtunity to not only make you money but also give people access to the companions they'd like at a level they'd like with awesome skins which are wasted in just being killed.

    Thanks for reading.

  8. I do believe that was a poor attempt at humor on his part, building on the current trend amongst players to portray bioware (or more to the point, EA games) as some sort of evil moneygrabbing entity that are simply gouging the players for money with no care at all as to what players want.

The fact that a company needs money to stay in business seems to be completely overlooked by these people.

But they are moneygrabbing. They're a company. Its what they do. They grab your money.

In depth, nowhere have I stated they're openly fleecing or frauding. I'm saying that while EA, voted one of the worst companies in America, are up their backs about increasing revenue and not giving a crud about the playerbase? Thats what will happen.

But no, I'm just whining. You caught me. You're right. I believe all the things Bioware release should be utterly free! Subs? More like come on in and take everything for free! Our developers don't have families to feed, they'll run this game in their spare time!

    Don't jump to conclusions.

  9. Uhm... okay, not as gently as I would have put it, but...

Is that supposed to be an insult? I'm not even sure if you know what it means (quick help: via Wikipedia), as there's nothing terribly introverted about the post you're quoting. It actually fits more extroverted tendencies. As someone who is fairly introverted myself (at least according to Jung and modern psychology... dunno what the web kiddies these days define it as), I find the word's use here a bit odd. Was it supposed to be an insult? Is it bad?

No. Sorry, bad grammar. I was telling him to Introvert. Take a step back and just....Enjoy other peoples company instead of doing stupid things like that.

  10. 1) And here in lies the problem and the whole reason we're in this CM mess to begin with. Because of all the people who shouted "Oh I'd pay xx for that! Just like everyone shouted they'd pay $150 for the collectors edition before the game came out..... How much did they charge for the collectors edition again? Of course when people are screaming they'd pay for something a company is going to charge for it. At that point the population is asking to be fleeced.

    2) DCUO does not charge their subscribers for DLC. If you're a subscriber with their game you get access to DLC for free. You only have to pay for it if you're premium or F2P. I know because I have a F2P account on that game and I've checked their comparison charts to see what benefits subbers get.

Also I paid for a lifetime sub with LotR online which gives me a good amount of turbine points a month. How many I forget, but I know I currently have over 6000 stockpiled. Anyways, not the point. The point is you can get their riders of Rohan and Mirkwood expansions on their in game market for turbine points. I have both expansions, I bought them with my previously stockpiled Turbine points (meaning points I spent before I saved up the current 6000). Guess what that means... As a subscriber, I got the DLC FOR FREE.

BTW My husband and I have both unsubbed since 2.1 so there's two more subscriptions lost.

Nope. You paid a lifetime subscription for those DLCs. Free means....Well, free. You can buy a car with cash or over installments through contract. Still paying.

  11. How many of these have there been since 2.1? Are they seeing this? Are they going to do anything about this? They need to lose the gambling packs ASAP.

Uhhh...10? Or something? I dunno'. Hardly a gamebreaking amount.

  12. You want Togruta? Then, go, my child. Buy 100£ worth of Cartel Coins and BUY! Buy everything! For the people at EA have stated they'll only make more races when their Bioware mules finish filling the solid gold fountain with more champaigne and childrens tears.

But seriously, if people don't buy Cathar, they won't work on Togruta. Heck, I doubt they'll even fix Togruta without more funds. All the ones I see in game are currently either bright purple polygons or lacking a skin mesh. Someone work out what the big grey print on their skin says yet?

  13. Hi Op!

I wasn't aware that buying a customization option from the Cartel Market suddenly gave you MAGICAL POWERS and changed your character to GOD MODE!!!!! RAWR!!!!!

Oh wait, it doesn't, does it?

No, all the cartel market can really do for you is make you look different and speed up levelling.

So unless we're playing a video game version of Project Runway, this is not play 2 win, genius.

Grow up and be constructive. Introvert.

  14. Its not really pay to win as you don't really win. If you enjoy collecting those things, theres no shortage that aren't available to the Cartel Market, and many more that you'd be better off devoting your time to than coming on here and complaining about the ones you can't achieve.

If you're a completionist, fair one. But, take the time to do the ones you can, and don't complain about the ones you can't when theres plenty of things to spend your time doing in the mean time. ^_^

  15. Means going through Emperor-Knows how many current in game items, coding them with a custom command for "Up/Down" and then applying a new texture/ frame for them all with the hood up, and the hood down respectively.

A heavy use of time if you consider just how many items have a hood present, be it down like on the Valiant Jedi robes, or up like the Eradicator Warsuit. Its a vanity thing, more than anything, and to justify doing it? Don't expect such a command to be free. -Cough, CM, cough-.
