  1. Whilst the class missions are instanced, they are probably the reason for a lack of player interaction. At the forefront of the majority of players mind's is their current class quest and getting that completed. The other quests are supplementary to that. "Sure I'll kill 10 droids for you, but I'll do it whilst I'm investigating the mysterious force users as tasked to me by my master". I remember leveling my Jedi Consular on Tython, I was up to the part where you forge your lightsaber. I was running to my green portal at the same time as a Jedi Knight was running to his. Even though (as I found out later leveling a JK) we were at the same part of the quest and pretty much doing the same thing, there was no inclination for either of us to consider to group due to the segregation of the portals. Ultimately the presence of the red portals is what is causing the issue. Seeing a red portal gives players the impression that nothing can be gained by grouping up and helping the other class out. It's their story and I have no role in it. If class stories were more intertwined, you'd find that players would be more willing to be sociable and the sensation of a SP game would be gone.
  2. See post #4 "Oh, I'm not playing on an EU server (I play on The Fatman US). I just wanted to see how the game was in French (a bit too european for my tastes, but I digress)"....
  3. And perhaps you should learn to read what you link. The Blizzard rep called it a dip. 100k is 1% of WoW's sub base. 1% of their population left WoW and they attribute some of the loss due to the release of ToR. 1% is not a large chunk. 100k doesn't put ToR in a position to challenge for the top MMO title as they expected it would.
  4. The only people making assumptions are EA & Bioware. That because it has the Star Wars label, it will be huge. And a direct quote for giggles: Gibeau fully acknowledges that EA took "lessons" from WoW, but he also notes that the BioWare story and the lure of the Star Wars universe will be a big draw for many. A dip, is not the "large chunk" they were after. In fact WoW lost 100k of players in the quarter ToR was released. "Of course people are trying Star Wars - our development team are trying Star Wars! I'm one of the few people who's still playing it actually, but yeah we've seen a dip in subs. It certainly has to at least be attributable to The Old Republic, but it's also attributable to people who want to wait and get Mists of Pandaria, so it's not surprising. "
  5. He also emphasized how the game was going to take a large chunk of WoW's market away from them. Who exactly are WoW's market?
  6. That you had to write a post detailing what this game is suggests that the game is in trouble. There would be no need for you to be defending the game so much if it were in a better state. A unique game for a different crowd? EA & Bioware don't think so: http://www.industrygamers.com/news/wow-to-lose-big-chunk-of-market-share-to-star-wars-old-republic-says-ea/ http://www.industrygamers.com/news/wow-feels-like-a-shopping-list-says-ea/
  7. So you weren't there at launch then. Anyone who was there would tell you that level 60 was the cap. The cap level was raised to 60 in beta patch 0.10 (http://www.wowpedia.org/Patch_0.10) And not only do you fail at math. You also fail at reading: "New Kodo mounts! There is but one creature in all of Kalimdor that possesses the strength and stamina to bear a tauren rider into battle: the majestic kodo beast. Swifter and slightly smaller than their wild cousins, kodo mounts nevertheless demonstrate the same resilience and fearlessness found in their untamed brethren, traits that serve them well when bearing their equally resolute riders. It is said that only the most virtuous of tauren can win the affection of a kodo war mount, for these mighty beasts only serve those that approach them with honor and respect in their hearts. Tauren players will no longer have the Plainsrunning ability, due to the availability of Kodo mounts! Tauren players can purchase the Kodo mount at Bloodhoof village." Also if you were there at launch, you'd remember how many changes Blizzard deployed on the unsuspecting player base. If you read WoW patch notes, you'd also remember that Blizzard still make use of the designations "renamed" and "removed". If you want to question WoW wiki, that is up to you. WoWpedia is run by Curse and is highly reliable. They're in charge of sites such as DarthHaterDB etc. Please tell me (us) more about this magical "4" million subscriber loss. http://lorehound.com/news/world-of-warcraft-loses-100k-subscribers/ Shows the total amount of subscribers lost for each quarter. 1.8million is a bit shy of 3 million. And given the game is still at 10.2 million subs it has stabalized! Now if you want to prove me wrong. provide links. That's all that is required.
  8. The cap was 60 from release. From release. Both Onyxia and Molten Core raids were available from release. From release. Yes I am quoting WoW wiki, I can also link to: http://www.wowpedia.org/Patch_1.1.0 http://wow.allakhazam.com/wiki/leveling_%28wow%29 WoW's population has not dropped below it's current state of 10.2 million since the release of Cataclysm. http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/2769-WoW-Stable-at-10-2-Million-Subscribers EDIT: Surely if I was wrong you'd be able to provide links proving me such?
  9. Say what? Did you play WoW? Wow was released with a level 60 cap with both Molten Core and Onyxia raids available. Have a read of the release notes: http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_1.1.0 Edit, when did WoW lose 4mill subs? Do you even bother to check what you type?
  10. I feel there is enough wrong with your post to reply. WoW did not lose 2m subs in 5 months. Further more, 1.3m subs for this game is a failure. The Star Wars IP is supposed to be stronger than that. The fully voiced cutscenes were supposed to be a big draw card. This game was supposed to take a big chunk of WoW's player base. They said it in 2008: http://www.vg247.com/2008/10/24/wow-is-the-target-with-the-old-republic-says-lucasarts-and-ea/ They said it again last year: http://www.industrygamers.com/news/wow-feels-like-a-shopping-list-says-ea/ http://www.industrygamers.com/news/wow-to-lose-big-chunk-of-market-share-to-star-wars-old-republic-says-ea/
  11. According to VGChartz.com SW:TOR has sold 2.3million units globally. All of a sudden that 1.2m subscriber base doesn't look as good.
  12. You should have 3 files. *.zip/*.z01/*.solidpkg Place them in the appropriate folder within your SWTOR directory and delete the partial files too. You'll need to relaunch the game again and download a further patch (via the same method).
