  1. My disappointment with GW2 cutscenes came from how different were from GW1 cutscenes (thus SWTOR's were not new for me) but it was not a big deal. What amtters in GW2 cutscenes is the choices which efectively takes you to different paths.
  2. The problem with Guild wars 2's model is that there will be no conent updates until a new expansion is released. THat is how they did gw1 and it will be how gw2 is done. The game is a cash grab, it will try and sell as many units as possible and then it will go quiet.

ANet said there's going to be content updates on regular basis (I read somewhere their plan is do it monthly) and release an expansion every 18 months.

  3. Server populations are dropping. ...

I guessing total pop isn @ 500k or less now.

Anyone that were smart enough to not get blind buy fanboyism saw the pop still was dropping right after merges. My server, Red Eclipse, Had 2 full instances at fleet right after merge. A couple weeks later 1 full instace and barely half pop the second. Last time I logged in (around a month ago) there was only 1 ifull nstance. Of course I'm speaking of peak times.

EA knew perfectly they were really close to 500K at the time of investor conference and that subs will keep dropping in the months to come. That's why financial model of the game, with it, theoreticaly, in the sweet spot: "well above 500K", was changed to F2P. In fact, they knew it monts befor the famous conference. Jeff Hickman said F2P devs were working already on F2P when he arrived in may, what makes sense because convert a game from P2P to F2P takes no less than 6 months.

  4. Once again, this type of discussion is off-topic, this is NOT about F2P, cash shops or anything but, what type of content BIOWare should be focused on and what crowd they must appeal to, to stay afloat.

You asked why they gave up on stories content, he gave you a very good reason and, probably, the only one.

EA is cutting loses and trying to get as much money as they can from F2P model, so they won't invest a single cent in expensive content. Period.

  5. so why is it then if thats the case that my gpus both run equaly and max spike at 70% each cos really the game doesnt push this, in 3d and yes this game does run in 3d if you have a monitor that does it then it pushes my gpus to about 80-88% load. Do i have a mystery machine no, i have a fatal1ty 990fx and im betting thats the main difference between mine and your machine.

The bottlenecks arnt hardcoded into the game, there hardcoded into your board and hardware. And anything prior to the 990fx series are all terrible sli and crossfires, its only in the 990fx + stuff they actually sorted it out.

And if your running a single card then its more likly its your cpu bottlenecking your gpu or even running a 2.0 card in a plain x16 slot, vicious circle it is, get the best and dont skimp on anything.

My CPU, an AMD X4 925 @2.8GHz, is not bottlenecking my GPU. The game uses only 2 cores and it never pushes them above 70% while my GPU is clearly underused. As I said in a full instance at fleet it never goes up beyond 33-34% usage. An yes, I overclocked the CPU to check if for any reason even at 70% usage it was bottlenecking my GPU and no change, the GPU didn't went up that 33-34% usage.

SWTOR is the only game I experience this strange behaviour. I play other MMOs (I won't mention titles to not start a flame) and cores are always above 70% and GPU 80-90% usage.

And yes I've got my MB updated.

The only difference between those other MMOs and SWTOR is the engine.

  6. That totally depends on your motherboard and bios your running, 90% of the time its not games or programs that cant run sli/crossfire correctly, most of the time its the boards not being able to utilies them right, anything thats republic of gamers crossfire line or 990fx or as good as will utiliies sli perfectly especially within 3d, if you run a monitor and cards plus board that is specifically setup for sli the computer will over ride the game and run 50/50 split top and bottom or alternate left and right specifically using 1 card for each action and utilising cache from both cards for there own actions.

The only benefit a CF could have is the ammount of GDDR, other than that will be a complete waste of money. As I said this game is incapable of use more than 50% of my GPU, best case, and as I said is not a top end one. The game has got hard coded bottlenecks that makes the engine undersuse the hardware. Is not a question of motherboards, bioses, and/or drivers. The problem is the engine itself.

  7. This game is CPU dependant. But you need both a powerfull CPU and GPU if you want run it maxed. But don't expect it run smootly all the time.

If you are going to buy that CF just for this game forget it. It doesn't support CF/SLI. And it won't use 100% the main card. In fleet with 240 people the game barely uses 33% of my GPU: ATI HD 6850.

  8. But if you think about it, you are going to pay. Everyone does. What do you think the Cartel Coins are for? To purchase stuff. As subscribers, if we where never expected to pay for anything, what would be the point in giving us coins every month? Our subscription covers all aspects of the game and gives us a monthly dose of coins. If the planet costs us 500 Cartel Coins, who cares? We get them right now every month for subscribing. Non sub players will have to purchase the coins, hence charging coins for the planet, those f2p people will be "buying" it. The rest of us will get the planet with our coins that given to us every month from our sub. If it ends up working like this, I fail to see the issue with it. Im not going to buy vanity items with my coins, what else would I spend them on? And if I have nothing to spend them on, then what's the point in giving them to us?

Unless coins can be exchanged for credit (somthing is not clear yet) the monthly stipend is a double charge for a player, because things you should be able to buy with credits (XP boosters, for example) as subscriber, will be only available through coins, i.e., your real money. Don't be fooled by that virtual currency. It is directly linked to your real money thus each time you spend coins you are spending real money. If you pays coins for makeb you are speanding the equivalent in real money for makeb. Is that simple.

  9. Well look at fleet sometimes well over 225 people with npc's in a contained area what's the difference if we're all swinging our light sabers?

Fleet lags with those numbers. My CPU is and AMD X4 925 @2.8 GHz and my gf is and ATI HD6850 and my FPSs there are never above 17 (average) but I know they could be higeher since at fleet my GPU is at 30-35% usgage and 2 cores of my processor under 70% usage, and people in fleet just runs around, they don't do anything special.

Onley when there's less than 30 players in fleet my fps are above 30 (average) and is still clearly too low for my hardware.

Seeing how the engine uses my hardware at fleet I know world PVP would be unplayable for me in this game.

  10. I agree with all but Wookiees. I know how popular they are, so I won't rag on them...but they utterly bore me. Gungans, I can see as a dignified species, Jar Jar Binks notwithstanding.
Is not a question of popularity, it's a question of lore. Chewbacka, though secondary, was one of the main characters in the first trilogy, and in the prequel there's a whole battle at wookies homeworld. Skip wookies as a playable race is a mistake.

Besides that, my first character in SWG was a wookie :)

  11. Where are the ones we REALLY want?

    Cerean.

    Nautolan.

    Togruta.

    Gran.

    Bith.

    Whiphid.

    Mon Calamari.

    Bothan.

    Selkath.

Where are they? Can anyone tell me WHY BioWare thought it would be a GOOD idea to have as LITTLE customization as possible?

    I

    You forogot:

    - Wookies

    - Rodians

    - Trandoshans

    - Sullustans

    - Gungans (I know many people hates them because of Jar Jar Binks, but they are there).

    - Ithorians

    Just my 2 cents.

  12. It's obvious you spent lot of time thinking all these changes for PVP, but you are oversighting the reasons why peple is ñeaving the game, and basically is that it bacame old and boring too fast.

Hardcore players made 8 level 50 characters in the less than 6 months, with more than one fully geared, and casual players have made more than 3 level 50 with at least one fully geared both PVE/PVP; so the main reason to leave the game is that there's nothing else to do besides the same 5 (average) FPs, OPs, and WZs every single day.

For PVPers the second reason in their list is the mess that is world PVP (I know this is going to be polemiic but GW2 WvW is way better right now) and they want it fixed now.

Until these 2 problems are properly addressed (lack of PVE/PVP content, and fix world PVP) enhance PVP will help but won't save the game because people will keep leaving, specially PVErs.

  13. GW2 - PVP oriented, really weird targeting system that will NOT appease the masses of people who are used to selective targeting.

Weird? In which way? Because I played 2 beta events and 3 stress test so far and I had no problems selecting target the same way I do here in SWTOR. In fact it has the same targeting system as any other mmo (near enemy, next enemy, etc etc.) and if the problem is the keys... customize them in the options menu to make them suit your needs. Is what I did and I have my keyboard the same way I have it for SWTOR. No difference at all.

  14. Q: When did you decide to go free to play?

Answer: We just looked at the market place in general.....

    Q: At launch you did?

Answer: Uh.... I just got here in May, so if there was a secret plan to go F2P, I don't know of it. Our game is designed to be a bit of a broader game that appeals to a lot of people, so I think F2P is well suited to our game.

I love these 2. They guy basicaly said: "I got here in May and F2P was on work already, because is a market demand, nothing else". So, at least, this game was set to be F2P since april which means EA knew the drop of subs in july-augost was going to be massive and it wouldn't stop.

    Another awesome one:

Q: No AAA MMO has ever gone F2P so soon.

Answer: That's what we're excited about! My philosophy is you should be aggresive and you shouldn't wait until it's too late. We've made great updates, it's light-years beyond where it was at launch and we want to bring back some of the players from the beginning and left. We have group finder, forced character transfers, and a lot of other things.

Lol. Is he implying they put the game in a starship and hit the hyperspace button?, because the game hasn't change too much since launch. In fact most people is leaving because they feel there's not enough content and they don't want to do the same things every day. But if he means it is light-years beyond in boredoom he's completely right.

    Another pearl:

Q: I don't want to be a smart-***, but we've been told before that we'll get more updates. And we were told pre-release that subscription based models allow for faster release of content. After launch, did they say to themselves, "We need F2P, so lets spend development time on that now." or did they say "We don't need F2P, we'll worry about developing that later if we need it."?

Answer: Uhhhh I think that uh... we've updated the game a lot since launch, and we've done lots of updates....

Wasn't the game light-years beyond it was at launch?

Q: Any regrets over subscription based model?

Answer: We wish we had more time before launch so we could have all the core features there day one.

Do I have to comment this one?

Q: I don't mean just at launch. 1.1 was a well timed update. Then there was not an update until April with 1.2. It's too long, don't you think?

Answer: Yes, when I started in May I became aware that the game has to be living and breathing and constantly updated. 2 months, 3 months, without anything new? You can't do that it turns out. In some ways for me the most important part of the change we're making is how fast we're going to be updating the game.

And the game is light-years beyond it was at launch. LOL

Q: My friends felt like they "beat' the game when they beat their story. Thoughts?

Answer: Yeah we need to transition away from that. We need the stuff AFTER that to be engaging and exciting to keep players at this point.

They made a monster they don't know how to deal with.

Besides blatant lies, it's clear the game was pushed into f2p since april, thats why there was no new content since 1.2. They rushed the game unfinished. And even for them the lack of end game content is obvious.

  15. I was on a monthly sub and I unsubbed 2 weeks ago. The game bacame old and boring for me though I'm casual. I've got only one 50 (in any mmmo I had more than 2 or 3 characters maxed) and several 30sh and is not appealing for me level any of them to 50.

However, I will keep an eye on the game to see how it evolves.

  16. Is good to know that SSSP is still in development, but it will take no less than a year bring it to life, that if they are really revamping the space content. However, it'll be sooner if what they are doing is keep the actual instanced misions but just make them free flight.

I'm open to be surprised but I confess I'm quite pesimistic (I suppose I don't have to explain why) and I don't expect it to be JTL-like space content.

  17. People have said SWG and JTL used seperate engines, I dunno how true that is.

However the newest versions of the Hero Engine do support "space"....... and frankly upgrading the whole game to that might solve a lot of other problems too.

If all they do is mildly take space off the rails then it's never going to be what most people want.

JTL client was the same as SWG client, so no, JTL was not developed for anothre engine.

But lest's say it could be another engine. The problem is not a question of graphics, is how the client negotiates data traffic with server side of the engine, so basically ground and space engines must be the same because they've got to understand and be undertood by the server side.

Use the later versions of Hero engine is no possible. BW adtimited that they have changed so much the version of their engine to the point is no longer compatible with any subsequent version.

  18. That should be on BioWare's memo letterhead tbh.

Unless they're trying to buy SWG's space engine, including crafting, from SOE it's still going to suck. As I predicted over a year ago, space content in this game is rail shooting arcade game crap. Someone called it "Starfox 2" the other day, and that pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Pollish a terd all you want, at the end of the day it's still just a shiny terd.

PS- BW should ask SOE to sell SWG:JTL to them, Sony'd probably sell after seeing how their company's been doing lately.

That's not possible. JTL was developed for another engine that has nothing to do with Hero enghine, JTL code is completely useless. Besides, the only thing that can work is build the space up from scratch, but that means heavily tweak the engine to handle a JTL-like space expansion.. I don't think that will happen beacuse it means put tons of money again in the game and at this point EA is trying to cut loses. They won't invest more than what is abosolutely necessary to keep the game running and set up the F2P store.

So the only possible path to make space more starswarsy is keep the same space instances/missions but without rails with some limited PVP if they see it feasible.

  19. SWG was, is, fully SW inmersive. It made you feel a citizen of a galaxy involved in a civil war. The problem was not the era. Mismanagement (same problem we're seeing in SWTOR) and bugs aside, the first bad blow to the game was allow everybody bacame jedi through hologrinding. IN that very moment all world PVP stopped (at least in my server and I don't have reasons to think it was the only one) and the game became an insane hologrinding to unlock the jedi. Something not too bad if perma-death were not removed and Bounty Hunters were not bugged. But perma-death was removed and BHs, as far as I know, never were fixed, so in no time the servers were filled with jedis swinging lighsaber in cantinas and spaceports, not mention that that even broke more PVP because jedi was an alpha class insanely overpowered.

I'm sure the game would do great (if all bug and broken classes were fixed, instead of nerf them) with jedi perma-death and keeping secret the way to unlock jedi or making unique for each player unlock jedi, and never easy. Hologrinding not only was a dumb way to unlock jedi, it was also against lore: Luke never had to open a holocron to become force sensitive. In fact he knew he was FS throug a quest that started with the 2 droids his uncle bought to the jawas. It was clear that that was the way to unlock FS for SWG players: a personal and unique quest hard to get and way harder to complete. We never had that. Well, we had a timid try of that path with the village after CU, but again was more or less the same for everbody and in the end and insane endless grind.

Finally LA forced SOE to revamp the whole game and release NGE making jedi just a class like any other. They simply shoot themselves in the head.

Before CU the game was stable around 300K subs. After CU it dropped below 250K, and after NGE felt under 150K and kept loosing subs 'till the day it was closed. So no, it was not that jedi was not originally in the game because NGE never recovered lost subs and even lost players every year. Were all the bad decissions devs and responsibles (including LA) made based on the idea that their players were mindless kids that wanted swing lighsabers.

Another proof: SWTOR is full of jedis and is incapable of keep a stable player base.

  20. So what you're saying is you want Guild Star Wars2(Guild Wars 2 in a Star Wars setting)?

I think what he does mean is that in GW2 your choices in your storyline has got consequences and you can do 100 times the same storyline and it'll be 100 different ones because of your choices, also what you do in the world has got consequences too. What is what basically asked OP.

  21. April 2012.

Daniel Erickson: "the next iteration of space is the single thing" I'm most excited about across all of SWTOR's incoming new features.

June 2012: Interview with Daniel Erickson

Q: In the future content trailer we saw the addition of a new space combat mission named “Space Station Assault.” Was this the secret space development you were talking about?

    A: No.

What we’re talking about in the future is revolutionary. We’re talking about a completely different pixel space.

Now it may still be a bit vague but have faith guys. Well, try to at least.

    Sources: http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1333873/swtor_lead_dev_most_excited_by_incoming_space_features.html

    http://www.darthhater.com/articles/swtor-news/20634-e3-2012-darth-hater-interview-with-daniel-erickson?page=3

Sorry, but those vague declarations were months before the game switched to f2p due massive subs drop. I don't see EA "wasting" more money in a game that is dying and is trying to save switching to f2p.

But lets say there's still a "secret space project". The engine can't handle a free roam space game. We can see it every day when FPs and OPs lags as soon as there are more than 2 teams doing the same. So it'll be heavily instanced because is the only way this game can handle servers population: putting people in small instances, and even that way it's not lag free. To say it short: they will turn the current rail missions into free flight missions, but the same instance: Certainly revolutionary and new pixel but definetely not what is needed/wanted.
