  1. You're right, I shouldn't blame the WoW crew for that. I don't see the planets as so linear. You can go wherever you want once you reach a planet; the quests make it somewhat linear. Most MMOs are like this though. I'm not sure how people expect them to make it more open: get rid of trees? I was going to put this in my list as well, but they have mentioned somewhere that they are looking into a solution for this. I would love dual-spec, but if they had a smart system that saved and loaded you action bars and still made you pay for it, I would be fine with that, just lower the cost. That way you can't switch between specs in the middle of a warzone/flashpoint; that seems a little cheap to me, and one of the reasons Rift felt like easy mode.
  2. There are tons of flame posts by trolls, and tons of blind defensive posts by fanboys, but both are horrendously one-sided. I would like to take an objective look at the state of the game. Disclaimer: I am having an absolute blast with the game and don't plan on leaving for a long time, but this is a list of things that need to be tweaked, in my personal opinion. - Combat Responsiveness And general responsiveness. I realize that you care a lot about the animations in this game, but they tend to be frustrating. As an Operative, I have a 3-second channeled heal. When I hit the ability, my character takes out a device before the ability starts to work, which takes almost a full second. The action should start immediately, with the timing of the animation coming second. It will look a little funny, but will feel much better during actual play. Also, when I get a holo call, I don't want to wait 4 seconds after I click the 'answer' button for the animation of pulling my holocommunicator out. - LFG tool I'm not sure what would be the best way to remedy this, but something needs implementing. Cross-server ruins server communities, so it probably should not be done, but either add level-based chat channels that are global or a global LFG tool that just matches people; they still need to be social to get things rolling. - PvP brackets Having everybody lumped into one large pool for Warzones is just silly. There are 40 levels of PvP'ers; please split them into 4 tiers like Warhammer Online. A level 30 player cannot compare to a level 50, even with bolster. - PvP crowd control / stuns and Resolve I'm not sure if other people are experiencing this, but Resolve seems pointless. I will get CC'ed for 8 seconds that does not break under damage. The reason most games make damage break CC is so that some strategy is involved, especially in PvP. As an Operative, my battles start with me being CC'ed, I use my ability to get out of it, then I get stunned (because resolve isn't effective) and die before I regain control of my character. Rinse and repeat; that is my Warzone experience. Some classes are extremely delicate, and when a solo player can kill me without taking any damage because my hotbars are greyed out the entire time, something's wrong there. - Global Trade Market I have a hard time believing that the amount of items on the Market are so vast that an item name search isn't possible without going through 3 drop-down menus to narrow it down. Every other game has this function, which makes it really frustrating that this one doesn't. It makes browsing the GTN painful. Also, some items aren't flagged correctly in the GTN, so they show up in the wrong category (like underworld luxury fabrics), but that's more of a bug than a real issue. - Money sinks need to be reduced Between buying all the schematics and paying for every mission that you send your companion on, I just don't see the money-making benefits of crafting. While trying to craft I am expected to shell out a ton of money for training each level (the prices get ridiculous towards end-game) and then large money dumps at 3 different points of the game for speeder training. On top of that, we have to gear out our ship if we want to do space combat, and gear out our companions (of which we get 6 when it's all said and done). Even if you only keep up with 2 of your companions, you are essentially dealing with 3 sets of gear upgrades instead just your own. When it's all said and done, you have to grind dailies at level cap to get the things you needed 5 - 10 levels ago. - Rolling for gear needs to be tweaked I have had a few cases where people roll need on gear in flashpoints which they can't use, either because they are trolls, or want to gear out their companion. Put a governor in there so a person can only need on gear they can actually use and is designed for their class. Maybe adding a 'need for companion' option would be nice too. Also, I had an instance where we beat a boss in a flashpoint, but 3 of us died. We released and started to run back before the final player defeated the boss. He looted the boss before we got back, and we weren't able to roll for the gear. That's not cool. - Flashpoints need more story Black Talon and its Republic equivalent are great. The rest of the Flashpoints (from what I've played) have a bit of dialog at the very beginning, a bit of dialog at the end, and a silent choice convo in the middle. I feel like they are unfinished. I'm sure there are plans to flesh these out more, and I'm glad they were put in the game, but they do need work. - Character customization For a game where you look at you character up-close very often, there's not much in the way of customization. I read on the legacy system page that there will be extra customizations for legacy characters, but please add them soon, as levelling in this game happens very fast and I would like some of my character to have access to these options. - UI needs more . . . of a lot of things. My biggest issue is the amount of action bars. There is barely enough room for all of the abilities on the four that you are given, let alone slots for special items. Also, the side bars get partially obstructed by the chat window and the overview in Voidstar. On top of that, the only part of the UI that I can move is the operations frames, which are buggy and don't always update properly, making healing in a warzone near impossible. We need more customization. The UI is pretty, but functional is more important in a game like this. Also, certain options need to be added, such as a combat log and target-of-target display. I know there's a hotkey for acquiring your target's target, but it doesn't work. It makes group fights much more coordinated when the group knows who the tank is actually attacking. Scaling needs to be added as well. In most of the MMOs I play, I have 4 action bars on the bottom, shrunk to fit, and one or two on the side for non-combat abilites (the out of combat heal, quick travel, CE and Deluxe version items, pets, etc.). I ran out of action bar space at level 35. - Don't turn this game into WoW in space This point is more for the WoW fanboys than BW. I know a lot of the gameplay is mirrored to that behemoth of an MMO, but so many haters on the forums are saying to add flying mounts, make the world more open, etc. This game is intentionally different, and is not designed to have every feature of WoW implemented into it. The game can't have continuous areas with no loading screens like WoW, because you are traversing planets, not small areas. WoW made flying mounts specifically for BC because you needed them to get around. They did not let people use them in the vanilla areas for a long time, and could really only justify doing it by destroying the vanilla areas during Cataclysm. Flying mounts don't fit in the lore; shuttles and speeders do. My other small complaints (guild bank, respec cost, legacy system, etc.) have all been mentioned as in-development, so I won't really go into detail on those. I want this game to succeed, and I doubt most people will read the whole post, but as an objective player that wants to see the game do well, these are my concerns. TL;DR: If you really need this, this post isn't for you.
  3. You can't really focus on gear progression until you hit level cap. The orange gear is fully moddable, which means it's more of a cosmetic gear piece than anything else. They were put in the game so that f you liked a certain look of a piece of armor, you can work a little harder to keep up all the mods and enhancements in it. Commendations only work for the planet you are currently on, and the gear you can get with them are only for the levels of that planet, so no reason to grind or hoard them. Good places to get gear are from the Commendations vendors (usually only have one or two pieces you can buy by the time you leave a planet), a crafter (armormech for BH/IA, synthweave for Sith classes; their gear is good for the level), and PvP gear (uses PvP comendations; check the combat training area of the Imp fleet). There's no grinding rep for this game; the closest for of that is warzones for the commendations.
  4. Alright people, Google is your friend. http://www.freefrag.com/sw-tor/21526-how-get-swtor-work-steam-overlay-advanced-users-only.html I just did this right now and it works. It seems a little funky when you start the game, but works like a charm. Enjoi.
  5. Intel Graphics means an integrated video chip. That's just not enough to run a brand new game, even if the graphics aren't on par with other AAA titles. You can't expect to win the Indy 500 riding a mule. The hardware you have just won't cut it.
  6. I'm 99% sure that the security key vendors are different from the CE vendors and are actually scattered around the game, but I'm not 100% sure. I been waiting for an official word about this as well. With all the little perks that they keep adding, it hard to tell if they aren't bothered with pissing off the CE customers while trying to squeeze out as much money as they can from everybody else. By the way, this is most likely EA's move, not BioWare's.
  7. In BioWare's defense, they did announce that pre-orders would be let into early access according to when the pre-order was placed. Also, give them a break. This is the first time they have ever launched an MMO, and maybe they want work out the kinks internally (not just server load and stability, but personnel performance as well) for the next week, figuring out what needs to be reinforced, and making sure that everything runs smoothly before letting the masses into the game. This is anticipated to be the largest release of any MMO ever. The amount of pre-orders is astounding. Give them a week to make sure everything will be ok for release. I would rather they find issues now than when the floodgates open. If you didn't pre-order early, you should have known you wouldn't get in the first day. Having been invited in the second wave myself, I can say that the amount of players in-game is massive already, considering how many servers there are. Just be patient; you'll get to play soon enough. Also, if they let everybody in and the servers went down, you would have even more angry people on these forums.
