  1. My best friends wife died of cancer in May '13. he made a character with her name and that looked as much like her as possible on the server we were playing on at the time. He then walked away from the game for over a year, although remained subscribed. (yea, free revenue for BW) I continued playing but switched servers following friends. Well, he came back a week or so ago, made new characters on the server I am on. So, does he deserve to lose the name of the character named after his wife, since he has not logged in to that character in over 17 months? Do you think that character, with the name it has, is kind of important to him?
  2. I can only symathize if this is your first character to lvl 47. If it isn't then you've seen these videos before and knew what it was as soon as you saw your ship come cruising into view. Oh, it's the Makeb intro, and I don't want to see spoilers..... <ESCAPE> I posted on this same subject in a thread back in August.... http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=7580606#post7580606
  3. Yes, Either you have a really bad memory or, as soon as you saw your ship slowly come into view you knew that was the Makeb intro video. I take time off this game constantly. I play for a few months,m I switch to other games for another year, then back for a few months. Damned ADD, cant focus on anything for very long. I'm only playing it now because when I lost focus 2 months ago I left 2 characters on Makeb at 52-53. And it has been bugging me for some stupid reason, so I went back and finished them off to 55. No I'm off to play other games for 6-12 months. Strangely I do not forget everything about this game every time I wander off for months at a time. I probably haven't put more than 100 hours in to City of Heroes in 5 years, and obviously none in 1 3/4 years, but I could probably pick it up and remember everything (that I experienced) within a hour if it still existed.
  4. I suppose this may have been the OPs first 50. If not, then the OP has seen those Makeb story line intro videos before. They are all basically the same. Your ship slowly cruises into view, your character shown doing something typical for it's class.. message comes in, character walks on to bridge to answer,, faction leader starts talking.... So, OP spent, what, about 10 seconds watching a very familiar video before the spoiler. If it was the first time the OP saw one of these videos, it's understandable. That also covers "the game is 2.5 yrs old" and "RotHC) is almost 1.5 yrs old" also. If OP is new, their post is correct, this is a problem. If OP has been around a while, or has other characters that have done Makeb, the OPs post is invalid. You knew what that video was almost immediately, and you knew it was going to tell you the end result of your class quest line.
  5. But, what if i don't want a highrise penthouse. Maybe I'd rather have a dark, seedy, smoke filled den of il repute in the more shady side of town.... Maybe my Smuggler or Bounty Hunter would rather live among his own people.. you know, the low-lifes in the lower levels...
  6. I have a light-side Warrior. His reasoning is; in the Empire, Force sensitives either become Sith, or die. Once at the Academy, you either graduate, become an Apprentice, or die. Once he graduated, and became Baras apprentice, he played the game whenever Baras was watching. He kinda preferred breathing to the alternative. When not around Baras, he did as he pleased, including undermine Baras if given the opportunity. Killing Baras' agents and other apprentices was perfectly justified, in his mind, as they are pretty much as dark as he is, or are helping him gain power. When Baras wasn't watching, he acted entirely different. "Yes, Master, I will destroy your enemies and bathe in their blood" became "I will pretend to do something about Baras' enemies while actually allying with them and plotting Baras ultimate demise". Always rationalizing to Baras how allowing them to live was better than killing them. Fortunately Baras is quite gullible in his arrogance. I talked the talk of the true dark-obsessed Sith, but walked the walk of a light path Sith who knows how ridiculous the Sith and their Dark side BS is.. As for the Jedi, He saw enough arrogant, corrupt and hypocritical Jedi to know they weren't the answer. They were just as bad in some ways. At least the Sith didn't pretend to be the good guys with the people's best interest at heart. The Jedi claimed to be independent of the Republic command, but it is lies... the Jedi constantly sacrifice young members of their order for the best interests of powerful and corrupt politicians in the Republic. they constantly allow dozens, hundred, thousands of innocents die to preserve a few powerful patrons of the Order. Like any political organization, religion, guild or union.. it is not about the people, or about the betterment of the individuals... all can be sacrificed for the good of the organization... the Jedi only exist to perpetuate the Jedi and the Republic, not to help anyone, although if anyone is helped by the Jedi's quest for self preservation and gathering power and influence to the Council, that's good too. Of course, the justification is 'what is good for the Republic and the Jedi is good for everyone...' but then, the Empire feels the same way. And, on our own world, so did the Nazis, Soviets, Khymer Rouge etc.... What is good for the Fatherland/Mother Russia/the Party is what is best for Germans/Russians/whoever...
  7. I had the same idea. Although I have a 2nd wave of the other ACs also coming up. My first goal was to get to 50/55 with on of each faction (took a break after 3 months so never got to level cap until I came back just before level cap was raised to 55). Sorcerer and Sentinel got there first. then, finish Chapter 1 with each class, with the idea to use the other mirror AC (like you did). Ended up with (as of now): Sorcerer (now 55) Juggernaut (now 55) Sniper (now 55) Mercenary (now 35) Sentinel (now 55) Shadow (now 55) Vanguard (now 38) Scoundrel (now 34) Since I couldn't leave well enough alone, I started also leveling the other ACs also: They are now between 15-30, and, yes, as above the Force users are leveling faster than the blaster lovers. If I had to do it again, I think I would switch to Guardian and Marauder. There are a few times Guardian has a clear advantage with some fights over Sentinel. Not as many with Juggernaut/Marauder. I may have switched Sorcerer/Shadow to Assassin/Sage, too. The feel of JC is far more geared to a Sage. SI is slightly geared to Sorcerer, but not as much as JC is to Sage. Assassin still works , Shadow just didn't feel right for the story.
  8. All 5 about 50, give or take a level. None of the end of chapter 3 fight were terribly hard, although Barras did almost get me because I forgot about Emperor's Voice, or whatever that ability of his was. The IA final fight was a letdown... kicked his butt easilly. For me the hardest fights of any level (assuming appropriate level and gear for the fight) were that first Child of the Emperor after Nar Shaddaa for the JK and Tavis for the Trooper.
  9. Max Von Sydow has been around. not quite obscure. A quick check of IMDB shows a few roles I know he has been in. Shutter Island - Dr. Naehring Dune - Doctor Kynes Never Say Never Again - Ernst Stavro Blofeld Conan the Barbarian - King Osric Flash Gordon - The Emperor Ming "The Merciless" The Exorcist and Exorcist II: The Heretic - Father Merrin he's even played Jesus The Greatest Story Ever Told - Jesus
  10. Corruption and wandering thugs would concern me. That and "world city" So, no dirt, no trees, no lakes or oceans or beaches or mountains.... No... Yea gloomy doesn't do it for me. Perennial overcast conditions would be depressing. At least Seattle does get some sunny days. Seattle is cloudy 201 days out of the year and partly cloudy 93 days. That means 71 sunny days a year. Kaas City is cloudy every day, 0 days of sun, 0 days of "partly cloudy". That's something I think many people miss. These planets are worlds of extreme. Tatooine is not just a hot desert, its an entire planet of Sahara like conditions, only hotter... and drier... Hoth is not just cold. On a warm day it resembles Antarctica in winter. There is no liquid water there. Water freezes in seconds. You cannot wear enough layers to actually be warm. If someone actually walked outside in just Jedi robes they would be dead of hypothermia in minutes, if that long. Oh, and Taris.. Rakghouls... yea... uh, no thank you. I would like to let my dog outside without it, or me, would become Rakghoul chow. And toxic polution... entire lakes of toxic polution. see Quesh and Hutta below... I had forgotten about the Jawas. Between Jawas, murderopus marauding Sand People, heat and general lawessness, I don't think I would even seriously consider living there. And, once again, no lakes, rivers, oceans or other surface water. Hell, you cant go outside to check the weather without risking frostbite. this... Taris too, as mentioned above. That and it doesn't look to be a pleasant place either. Planet sized red rock desert. Yea, living in a bombed out, former war zone doesn't appeal to me. But so far it seems better than most. As long as the Colicoid situation is under control. Exactly. And, it looks cold. Cold, nasty wildlife, occasional escaped convicts.. and not your garden variety convicts, but galactic scale nasty bad guys. Looks like any overly industrialized city. Pollution spewing factories, power plants and production facilities. Only the republics superior EPA controls keep it from looking like Hutta. But, at least you can see the ground, and it may have trees, lakes, rivers, etc... somewhere... Nar Shaddaa and Coruscant have a land and rock under all that city somewhere... but then, if you are actually standing on rock, you are at the lowest levels..i.e. poorest most destitute levels... heck, the actual rock and dirt are probably under a couple hundred feet of toxic sludge and waste. Yep And, it's cold. everywhere still snow and ice on the ground. Unless we always seem to only visit in winter, I assume the entire planet has the climate of northern Canada or North Scandinavia/Lapland. I have known a few Swedes and Finns in my life. The Fins point out that there are 2 seasons in Finland, winter and not-quite-winter, aka July. Don't think I want to live on an entire planet like that. Lakes, mountains, rivers... little pollution, and while irritating, the Flesh Raiders are easier to kill, less mindless and fewer in number than Taresian Rakghols or Jawas and Sand People. And, you just have to find a spot not near the Jedi temple or Kalikori(sp) village to avoid Padawans and Twi'lek.
  11. My view... If you have the (metaphorical) balls to attempt tanking, I will do everything reasonable to help you succeed, give you any advice you will accept, and be patient. Every game seems to have a tank shortage. It doesn't help when some people chase away people new to the roll simply because they aren't pros at it yet. As I said, if you have a tank, and the cojones to try tanking, I'm here for you. As long as you will listen and take advice and are trying to learn. If you suck and wont learn, well, the door is thataway <kick>
  12. I try to stay about 2 levels above the current quests I'm doing. It allows me to have fun being the hero/villain/a--kickin' stud I am supposed to be. I cant be stupid, but a bad pull isn't going to automatically kill me. Also, it goes faster. So, I try to be at least 11, preferably 12, when I leave the starter planet and 17-18 when I leave Coruscant/Dromond Kass. For example, right now I have a 49 Juggernaut who just arrived on Corellia, a 46 Sniper just got to Voss and a 36 Powertech starting on Taris. My currently 55 Shadow and Sentinal both didn't start Makeb until 52. Some may not like the lack of challenge, but I found it fun kicking that much butt...
  13. Yea, I think you have to be light focused.
  14. What dye does anyone need outside of a little gun bluing?
  15. Read the comments in these forums or on Torhead about any of the most difficult missions. Almost all of them will indicate how much easier those hardest missions are for a Guardian/Juggernaut than a Sentinel/Marauder. For instance... after Nar Shaddaa you will have to go to an abandoned station and fight a nasty Sith. Guardian: difficult, but very do-able if you know how to play the class. Sentinel: be geared, be at least the level of the mission, and know your class very well, and you will still probably die a couple of times.
  16. Yea, because adding a title is just so cost restrictive... and adding a title requested by players is pointless, stupid or unnecessary. So, since it's so difficult and cost restrictive to add a title, what development went undone so we could all purchase that silly "Revan's Heir" title for 10CC a few weeks ago? None, because adding a title is probably fairly trivial.
  17. My friend and i did the same. My JC with his JK. At the end when his JK finally makes Jedi Master he pointed out that I became a Master at the end of Chapter one after "Shielding a few people and killing one Sith lord... and you didn't kill him, just shielded him." Where he had to save multiple planets form destruction and hunt down and kill Darth Angral. At the end, when hew finally got raised to Jedi Master, I got put on the Jedi Counsel. We wonder, if that's what it takes for him to get promoted to master, what did these dozens of other Masters do?
  18. Hey, S_AZ didn't you get banned, going down in a raging expletive laden blaze of glory recently? Ah, well, good to see ya back.
  19. You do realize that Blizzard tunes its raid encounters with the assumption that the raid is using addons, right? They set up the encounters and bosses assuming players are using DBM and heal frames, among others. Now it is to a point where not using the addons puts the raid at a significant disadvantage. they are almost manditory now. Sorry, I left WoW for many reasons, but the elitist crowd and the culture/environment they created, may not be the main ones, but they are reasons. If you want an MMO that pretty much requires addons to do most end game content, WoW is thata way -------->
  20. I would assume you couldn't use characters from the other faction. I really don't think my Sorcerer would get along with any of my Republic characters anyway (or most of my Empire ones...).
  21. Because as I was looking for that 10CC link I posted earlier, my wife heard the video and made me let her watch it... which led to more 10CC videos.. which reminded her of how much they remind her of Air Supply, who she likes (cue long string of Air Supply videos) which drug into a string of Little River band and CSN(Y) (Crosby Stills Nash (& Young) for the musically deprived who may not know who they are) videos.... This has been my last hour and a half... That is what this thread about 10CC has done to my afternoon. BTW, I am a metal guy, so, y'know.... Although I can appreciate the unholy amount of talent possessed by those bands/groups.
  22. Why 10CC? I just figured there was a closet fan of the 70s group somewhere at Bioware...
  23. Umm... yes, that is exactly what you are... Just what does she think her roll here is?
  24. The funny thing is... Those who are raging about how this game sucks while paying for it, and probably mostly enjoying it, will tell you they are just trying to bring up frustrating areas they hope the developers work on. They are venting their frustrations in order to improve the game by bringing up problems. They think if they rage and threaten the developers will pay more attention to them, since obviously they are outraged at these various slaps in the face and should act on the screamers demands immediately. i.e. the loud and squeaky wheel gets the grease. Yet, at the Dallas Cantina tour stop, the BW employees there seemed to indicated that they pretty much don't take these threats and ragers seriously. They usually simply dismiss these outraged complainers. They do listen to well thought out and presented suggestions and arguments, but ignore the trollish screamers and their threats. In other words, these pissed off but paying people are not accomplishing what they are claiming they set out to do, since their raging simply causes the developers to ignore them and not take them seriously. But, in my opinion, these ragers know this, they aren't that stupid. "I care about the future of the game and am only trying to present problems that need to be addressed" is simply an excuse to troll. I'm not buying it. You are a troll, and like ************ and whining. Quit pretending otherwise. I buy it as much as I buy that gankers in WoW are really just trying to encourage world PvP by drawing out higher level PvPers to lowbie areas.
