  1. Not sure you are aware, but before launch Bioware allowed people to download a lot of the Soundtrack for the game, the links still work today. Enjoy!! http://www.swtor.com/info/news/news-article/20111201
  2. I had this happen to me on a previous week. When you log back in and another conquest is active your tracker will be empty.
  3. Wasn't it said pre-release that EA/Bioware needed 1 million subscribers for the game to profit? Honestly I feel that is more than achievable, and as we all know that's not taking into account the change in model. A portion of the revenue now depends on how frequently they update the Cartel Store. In my opinion they really need to be pushing updates to the store at least once a month. On the subject of Erickson and Zoeller leaving... There is a lot of speculation concerning the reason's why they left. In my opinion we will never get close to the reason why so many people lost their jobs / resigned. Many could argue that Bioware has lost their way since joining the ranks of EA. Whilst obviously resources and opportunities under the banner at EA were increased has Bioware's creative freedom been stunted? At the time the buyout took place, Bioware were criticized for seemingly doing a deal with the devil and that later on down the line they would pay for it. Is that what we are seeing? Bioware's fall from grace in the gaming industry (DA2, ME3 and SWToR) have all contributed to their downfall. Design flaws concerning DA2, changing the ending for ME3 (which I feel they should of left... I can see why they changed it, but it did nothing for the creative decisions they made whilst in development). I really do hope that they manage to turn things around with DA3, ME4 and eventually SWToR. I personally enjoyed DA2, ME3 and SWToR and look forward to the next iterations of the former. Here's hoping that SWToR has a steady revenue which puts it a position to eventually thrive.
  4. The OP was quite right in their usage of the companion system. Companions were actually put into the game to be able to fill the role for a missing group member in either a Flashpoint or group quest. You really need to watch the developer dispatch (2011) concerning companions...... and listen to Bioware's take on the companion system. Your comment's are so misplaced just based off that alone.
  5. I can confirm that this is infact right. I do have to say though I was rather dejected after getting through the entire instance (as well as killing the boss) only to find that we actually needed 4 players to finish the quest. Was very surprised at the lack of any warning (upon entering the instance) indicating this to be honest.
  6. The only reason I mentioned Dragon Age 2, was that seems to have been quite a pivotal point for Bioware. Some of the decisions made with DA2 left a lot of it's fan base scratching their heads. To the point that Bioware themselves have conceded since that they lost direction in development on DA2 and are aiming to rectify it with DA3. The past 2 years for Bioware haven't exactly been great from a P.R. standpoint, Dragon Age 2, SWToR and Mass Effect 3... Facts aside though, I will reiterate. I honestly feel that Bioware DO have it in themselves to move forward with SWToR. Get back on track and utilize what is great about the Universe we all know and love. Recent MMO's have proven that a F2P model can breathe new life into the game, whilst also giving it a much more lucrative outlook. I honestly feel that whilst WoW has made the MMO genre more mainstream (and lucrative) I feel it really is the cause of the stagnation of the MMO genre. Whilst I do understand that new MMO's are launching against the WoW of today (with all of its bells and whistles) I do find it unrealistic to think that any MMO can launch with the amount of content, polish and features that WoW has today. (8 Years since release + 4-5 years development before release) Going back to my previous point in the thread. As gamers, we have come to expect far too much in my opinion. We as a collective (devs and gamers alike) need to not only acknowledge problems with the game, but be realistic about solving those problems. I don't have a problem with anybody voting with their wallet as it's their right to do so. But if you care about this game then do so in a non inflammatory manner. Be constructive. TL;DR Feedback is good, criticism is good. It only helps if done in a mature manner. We (devs and gamers) need to be realistic and work together to solve the problems.
  7. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. We as gamers are a fickle breed, that quite honestly regard our own personal entitlement to be the be all and end all. (expectations far too high, with entitlement ranking even higher) It's no secret that in recent years, we as gamers have been spoilt, and have in my opinion come expect too much in certain scenarios. Whilst I can understand this standpoint from a consumers point of view (being one myself). I do have to realise that I have to be realistic and take into account all factors involved. (Some of which will be admittedly on an assumption basis). I do agree that it's disappointing to see bugs still in game that have been around for months or longer. I also agree that the reemergence of bugs is a little disheartening to say the least. (Not forgetting the recent hits in performance for higher end machines again). I also feel that the game as a whole hasn't quite been managed the way it should of been and honestly believe that Bioware has to be aware of this fact. Since the release of Dragon Age 2, Bioware has quite honestly gone from a developer that could do no wrong to a developer that has been butchered in the gaming community. It's no secret that Bioware have lost their way a little. In my opinion Bioware cannot be so arrogant and blind not to know this. I honestly feel that in part, this has caused notable and well respected members of Bioware to move on. In all honesty, ToR is at a very tentative point right now. Patch 1.5 (tomorrow) we all know whilst adding in new content is mainly to bring in the Cartel Market and the F2P model. This is Bioware's first step at trying to recoup some of their lost revenue, and claw back subscriber numbers. I personally am more interested in what 1.6 - 2.0 will bring. Yes there are problems with the game, I am not blind to them. I just try not to let the bugs outweigh my enjoyment of the game. I suggest that anyone feeling like the OP takes the F2P route and keeps their eye on the game if they are so inclined. For me to still be here, subscribing (and will continue to do so) has to signify that I have faith that Bioware will begin to make the right decisions and move forward in a direction that is better for everybody. TL;DR Yes there are problems, my advise is to take the F2P option and keep your eye on the game until it gets to a point you are happy to resubscribe.
  8. Well, whilst the view "Our class story quest, was the personal story for our characters becoming Hero's" I actually agree with. I can't help but hold a little hope that the Class Stories will continue. The overall story arc's (for the classes I have played) are engaging to say the least. I loved the fact that myself (and my character) were personally invested in what was unfolding. A very refreshing leveling experience, to put it mildly. Personally I feel ToR is at a very tentative point at the moment. Having said that though, for many it won't be enough to push content similar to what other MMO's push out. (FP and OP's) We were all sold on Story (the 4th pillar) and if that's not delivered in the same manner in which we are accustomed to then I can't see it not being a problem. This has been discussed before and I can't help but think that whilst the 4th pillar was a reason for me to be excited about the game it wasn't the be all and all.... then. Now on the other hand, it's different I would like to see more of the same. The burning question's from my perspective are; Can Bioware provide a great and engaging story without touching on the class stories further? Is there anyway players can still feel the level of engagement (and personal investment) they felt through their prospective class quests? I love this game and want Bioware to succeed. I guess it depends how invested Disney, EA and Bioware are. It's not secret we all need business to pick up and quickly. TL;DR - Will it be enough for you to stick around if Bioware do not invest more time and money in the Class Story experience?
  9. Yeah exactly this. It happens to my son on a frequent basis when exiting the game. No Node spec error (can't remember the exact wording) I also assumed it was due to a memory leak.
  10. Whilst everybody is entitled to play how they wish. You have to as a player like it or not, understand that there is an etiquette expected. If your play style falls outside of what is deemed acceptable, your actions can and will in some cases ultimately be at your own detriment. I can respect a difference of opinion and hell even welcome it, as I love a good debate but when a standpoint (as in several comments) becomes quite contradictory it completely undermines an argument. Rendering it baseless almost. Culminating in hiding behind the anonymity of a forum handle. Not willing to give people an informed choice of whether of not to group with yourself, (server, character names) will only culminate in more situations as you originally mentioned. To talk about the subject in general on the forums (where anonymity is in place) is a clear indication that you acknowledge there is a problem with your choice of preferred play, but don't necessarily wish to be judged at a character level. (Which is exactly where it will ultimately hurt you most). I would fully expect yourself to be named and shamed ingame which would potentially lead to yourself being added very swiftly to a lot of other players ignore lists. (Whilst I don't condone this form of action, it does happen and I myself would have to think twice about grouping with somebody like yourself) Luckily however, I haven't experienced any of this (yet), as I group with both of my sons and use a companion for the fourth group member. All heroics and flashpoints done, without problem. Lastly, being upfront about your intentions beforehand would go someway in avoiding most issue's with other players. But you still may be kicked just because of your viewpoint. An online game is quite honestly ruled by reputation and integrity.
  11. Yes, most definitely. My main concern before launch was the launch itself, server stability etc. Bioware did I really good job with SWTOR. Quite honestly the smoothest MMO launch I have experienced. Whilst i do feel that happy with the current state of the game. I do however feel that there is room for improvement. But with any game isn't there always?
  12. As per the title : Have gamers come to expect too much? Gamers are a fickle breed, and over the years we have been spoilt with advances in technology over a short space of time. Developers have consistently pushed the bar in terms of AI, graphics quality and immersion. As developers have made leaps and bounds in terms of what they deliver, gamers have come to expect far more than they ever did. In short do gamers demand perfection? We as gamers are paying money (to buy games with / without a subscription fee) but somehow the perfection we expect is never completely met. When do our expectations go too far? How much can we expect from a company who is consistently expected to provide extra content (through means of either expansions and / or content patches) whilst at the same time still having to provide full support to its current release? We all have certain expectation's from any game we play, but with the MMO market the way it is, it's all a bit one sided. Whilst the MMO market has flourished over recent years and become more mainstream, I feel that the MMO market has been hurt because of this. Don't misunderstand me though, I don't feel that gaming companies are completely innocent. Quite simply, in an attempt to placate their player base they can sometimes bite off more than they can chew and subsequently put themselves into a position that they can’t get out of. That aside, can't it also be said that they do this to try and meet our expectations? Gamers shouldn't necessarily lower their expectation's as it keeps developers on their toes. What our responsibility is, it's to not let our expectations cloud what, or what is not realistic. TL;DR Version - Do gamers demand perfection? Are gamers expectations unrealistic? Thoughts?
  13. Whilst I do understand what you are saying to a degree. I honestly feel that by touting dialogue as much as they have, Bioware have quite honestly created a benchmark (like it or not) that they are almost expected to live up to. The fourth pillar as Bioware referred to, is the main selling point of this MMO, which sets it apart from the rest. The easiest and most direct way to comunicate this to players is through audible dialogue. A great wall of text, is more likely to be skipped over by this generation hence the much used tl;dr acronym. I honestly don't feel that ToR would have the same feel if storylines were a massive wall of text. I quite honestly don't see any other option.
  14. All in all I have to agree with this entirely, and expand on it a little. It's quite obvious that npc's in game have far more options for customization that players currently do, I personally would like to see this expanded upon. More facial customization is a definate must in my opinion. New races interest me greatly and feel that with the variety available in the Star Wars Universe (and currently ingame with npc's) there are a wealth of options to explore. Just to browse over several of the bullet points in the Q&A Whilst I can see the attraction of housing (especially coming from SWG) I honestly dont feel it has a place in ToR. I would however like customization of ships (inside and out) to be able to personalize my own space. Quite honestly I am really looking forward to the legacy system, the impending guild enhancements and UI customization.
