  1. just one question how can you call it a sniper class if there range is the same as a smuggler with pistols. to be a sniper means to attack from long range but the way that the game has it doesnt seem right

Upon taking the Sniper AC, your abilities receive range increases.

  2. If bolts lead their target animation-wise, you'd still run into situations where a person running left could switch to running right while the bolt was mid-flight, and it would just miss him. This, being purely an animation thing, would have no impact on him being hit or not.. but it's a little weirder to have shots clearly missing a target while numbers roll up over his head than it is to see bolts curve towards targets.

Do you want a made-up explanation as to why this works, just to make you feel better? Magnets. Blaster bolts are gasses that have been excited into a plasmic state and surrounded by a magnetic field to hold them together. Just pretend that magnetic field homes in on dorks.

  3. I played a Hunter in vanilla WoW, so I'm no stranger to the jump-turn-shot maneuver. That said, I have no problem pulling off the same trick in SWTOR. There's nothing laggy or clunky about any of the controls or inputs on my end. Jumping is fluid, turning works, abilities fire off when I press them or their cast timers complete, the GCD works, ability queueing works if you're into that.. I just don't see where the OP's complaints are coming from.

The only real hitch is the camera settings. That'll be fixed, though.

Yep its clunky and a lot of stuff is "broken" like having to wait on animations before being able to trigger another skill although the gdc is up. If you pvp a lot and this isnt your first mmo you would notice this instantly.

I call shenanigans. Pray tell, name a particular instance where you cannot trigger another ability with the GCD finished due to still-running animations? I can fire a High Impact Bolt (instant) at any point after 1.5s of casting Mortar Volley, a three second channeling ability which finishes channeling a full second before its animation completes. The High Impact Bolt just comes out of my gun, which continues to shoot mortars. for a while longer if I so deem.

  4. A single level 50 in the match does not make or break the fight. Eight 10s vs. seven 10s and a 50 is far more even than two 20s and six 40s vs. six 40s and two 20s.

You can't brush aside all criticism of the warzone system by saying one person need to get better at the game. The best PvPer in the world is still going to lose all his games if he's saddled with a team that doesn't follow objectives and/or is hilariously outleveled by the competition, bolstering or not. The only thing that guy can do in that situation is not play warzones until he's the one with the overleveled team.

Bracketing works to correct this by making the potential imbalance between teams (so far as abilities and talents go) much smaller. Player skill has the largest impact on determining which team loses and wins only when the statistical differences between players are minimized, something which bolstering works to achieve. It cannot, however, balance people with 80% of their talent trees filled against those who only have 10% and are missing half of their abilities.

  5. Individual player skill does not enter into this when you have to rely on seven other people on your team to know what they're doing and also be geared. The fact remains that groups of wildly varying levels are not going to be competing on an even playing field and rarely will even the greatest amount of tactics overcome this.

Someone on the first page said, "watch what your enemies do when they win and copy them". A great deal of the time, the "thing that they do when they win" is actually "be 30 levels higher, on average, than the other team". It's not about bolstered stats, it's about ability selection and talents, two things that bolstering does not improve.

Bolstering is good and should remain. But brackets should also be in. There is no reason I should ever see a level 17 Smuggler try and heal while a 45 Assassin is wailing on someone.

  6. If you think melee in PvP is annoying, play a ranged character with cast times. You'll find something else to complain about (hint: it's getting your line of sight broken by random stacks of crates or the 6 Inquisitors/Consulars on the enemy team Force Stealth/Speeding away before you can finish them every time).
  7. In a pub, perhaps. But the smart thing to do is actually hold both left and right, since the speeders that go to them take less time than the cap time. Two people zerging left / right can interrupt caps ad nauseum as long as they're not CCed on approach. With three people doing this to each side, it becomes rather impossible to ever have 8 unmolested seconds with which to take the point back. With four, that's just not happening. You can hold Left and Right with four people each, completely ignore center, and win handily even if you get stomped the moment you show up at Left / Right. All you have to do is interrupt caps every 8 seconds.
  8. I'd like to mix stuff up with a little PvP now and then, but I can't. Rather, doing so would be detrimental my mental health. It's simply not fun participating in a one-sided stomp fest because either my side or the enemy's has several 30-40s or higher, and the other has many who are below 20. This morning, I played three matches with three players sub-20 on my side (the rest 20-30, save me, 34) while the opposing team consisted of three 40+ and the rest were 30-40 with one sub-30.

It didn't help that while our team was balanced, the enemy was composed of six Inquisitors (oh boy i love inquisitors) but the primary issue was still that lower-leveled characters are just not competitive with people who have 10, 20, or even more levels on top of them, no matter the amount of bolstering they receive. They lack a host of abilities, the talent points that make what they do have useful, and secondary stats like all the ________ Ratings which don't seem to scale well with Bolstering.

The people in this thread who're saying that any complaint about the PvP system is the result of unskilled babies whining about how they're bad should roll up some level 10-20s and go PvP in matches where they face multiple 40+ opponents, with only one or fewer on their side. Tell us how effective you are in a fight against them.

I'm pretty sure a eight highly competent PvPers playing level 20s would get stomped pretty fiercely by eight level 40-50s, even if the latter were keyboard turners and button clickers.

Tiers are needed. I don't care for queue times if there's a high chance the game I get into within 10 minutes under the current system is a one-sided slaughter.

  9. I kind of wish the levels took longer. The way I'm going, I'm on track to hit 50 without really trying in a few more days. I'm leaving my guild in the proverbial dust without going out of my way to level up. Just doing flashpoints and space dailies are enough to snag a level or two, and that's before doing planet/class quests.
  10. No one here seems to have any difficulty completing quests at the right level range, let alone when they outlevel them. My Smuggler pal and I duo 4-Man Heroics using our companions at quest level without difficulty. A full group, appropriately geared and playing intelligently, should have about zero problems completing even a flashpoint or 4-Man if they outlevel it by three.

I think you and your guildies are just bad.

  11. The comparison between sex and violence in media is both a tired argument and one that's fallacious. Violence is obviously virtual, sexual content even when simulated has a real impact because it's got a sensory component. Violence either really happens or it doesn't. They just aren't the same.
Spoken like an American, where you can shoot people in the head on basic channels and riddle Justin Bieber with bullets, but a half a second of a ****** is cause for a year-long FCC investigation and fines.

I'm sure Bioware has something better to do than mock up new models and rigging for a handful of NPCs because a few weirdos are getting excited (one way or the other) about teens/tweens with **** and big butts. If they don't, they should. I don't know how many people have stepped outside in the last ten years, but there are 13yos (and younger) in the world today who have breasts. Gasp and horror.

Who knows what kind of crap is in the milk on Coruscant? Maybe pants with padded butts are legitimate fashion in the Old Republic. Who cares? Complain about their creepy Children of the Corn-style stare instead.

  12. If you're not feeling the space combat in general, think they're too easy, or just want more reward out of it, try doing some of the advanced SECRET challenges.

I've experimented pretty thoroughly with these and I've discovered that you can get daily bonus quest rewards for completing secret bonus missions. They don't show up in your log and you have no idea you can do them until you actually complete them, but they're worth it. Balosar Outpost's is 2,600xp + credits, and Makam Te Assault's is 3,600xp + credits.

  13. I don't particularly mind that we don't get a second until Taris, but I hope its early...
Troopers don't get Elara until the very end of Taris, though if you've done everything on Coruscant, done a little PvP, and a few flashpoints, you'll pretty much outlevel the whole planet until the last quest or two. I snagged her at around 21-22, and my experience on Taris in the beta was just bypassing all the other content on the planet to finish the class-specific story quests (1-2 hours).
