  1. You may need to update the graphics card, and perhaps the processor.

I think the minimum for graphics was around 500.

I myself use (don't know the names off my head)

    3.1 processor

    8gig ram

    1064( I think) graphics

And with this I have no troubles, all settings on high and a steady 60fps

According to FAQ and backside of box minimum is 256 and recommended is 512. In reality though 512 is barely minimum.

  2. You are wrong sir. They have shifts of developers same as auto plants have shifts of workers.

Where did you get that insight from?

Judging from their application requests all dev openings are office hours. Makes little sense to have devs working in shifts, what would you achieve with that?

    Anyway thats a non-issue.

  3. You can get a decent GfX with 1G for around 100 Euro or $180. Just make sure your PSU can handle it (at least 400W).

I agree with you that BW currently seems to be trying to control how and what we set the graphics to instead of optimizing the game and leave the settings to us.

If funds are low then patience is your best friend right now. As you said its a great game and it will only get better from here on.

EDIT: also before I changed HW the thing that worked the best for me was to change from fullscreen to windowed fullscreen.

  4. Would be nice if BW could give some more info what the emergency was about because surely it could not only be that stated in the patchnotes. Patching on a weekend is unheard of in MMO history and not only because of prime time but also because most BW employee goes home for the weekend so communication or if needed quick fixes because patch broke something else will then get delayed untill monday.
  5. Windows 7

AMD Phenom 9150e Quad Core (1.8GHz)

    8GB RAM

    NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT (512MB)

I'm completely aware that it's my processor that's killing me at this rate. The computer itself is an oldish HP, only real upgrade is the video card which I purchased myself. Unfortunately, funds are low, so a new computer is out of the question at this rate. Upgrades might be more doable, however my processor chip set is AMD 2, and no place really sells processors from that chip set line anymore.

My issue is that in beta and launch, I was running this game very well, and with the newest patches, it all seems to be going downhill.

Dont think its your proc but rather your GfX with 512MB that is the problem. Reason I upgraded from 512M to 1G is that my wife, with almost identical comp only diff she had 1G and I 512M Gfx, could play without any serious FPS prob while I had to reload the game after an hour to get the FPS to a playable lvl. And as I said it worked.

Seems BWs spec for min and recommended HW is a bit off so I do think they got some optimization to do to reach their own targets. Making the game playable for those with low-end comps is actually good business for BW so I am certain they will do what is required. For me I just could not wait for BW to fix it so I bought new HW instead.

  6. Whats your HW spec?

Seems this game is really taxing the memory for some reason (sloppy coding?). Anyway, I was suffering from that as well but after increasing RAM from 4G to 8G and my GfX from 512M to 1G FPS has been no problem.

  7. OP it seems this is not a game for you, especially if you found the JK story boring I think you really should consider giving up SWTOR.

I love the game so far, it's a MMO perfect for me, and the stories are actually very well written and exiting and makes it hard for me to stop play because I want to know what happens next.

Sure there are some drawbacks but those that bother me are minor and will prob be fixed shortly like:

    - better UI

    - better GTN

    - Optimize game regarding FPS

Also I actually enjoy the pace in this game with the occasionally loadscreen and so on but I'm an oldtimer who has gamed since the 80s so my preferences are a bit different from the 733t-kids of today.

  8. I still refuse to believe that the only reason BW took down the server on a saturday, which is unheard of in MMO history, was:

"Improved service to reduce the number of player disconnections to the character selection screen."

That does not look so severe that it warrants that kind of drastic measurements. So I am wondering if anyone heard or noticed what the real fix was?

  9. Jesus christ on a stick! This game even ran on a 512mb card? I have a 2g DDR3 card and thought I was running bare minimum.

If you read on the box its even what BW recommends, makes me wonder what BW think is acceptable gameplay when it comes to FPS.

  10. How did I do it?

    - Upgraded from 4 Gbyte to 8 Gbyte RAM

    - Upgraded GfX from GTS 450 (512 Mbyte) to GTX 550 Ti GS (1 Gbyte)

    Total cost ~150 euro

    Problem solved!

Though BW should considering revising their 256 Mbyte GfX and 2 Gbyte RAM as min and 4 Gbyte RAM and 512 Mbyte GfX as recommended cause Balmorra for example is almost not playable with those specs.

  11. I have two thoughts on this...

    1. Absolutely need total control over bars... give me more and give me freedom!

    2. Yes, you can teach an old dog new and better tricks... I have been gaming since Pong, Pinballs, and Centipede, all you need is a good gaming mouse and a G13... you will never believe you could have done it without either or both!!! trust me on this!!!

(if I had to choose one over the other... g13 all the way!!)

I got a G15 and steelseries WoW mouse (which is a bit crappy for setting up buttons other then in WoW) but I just find it overcomplicated with remembering all the keybinds compared to clicking. Especially since I'm a bit of a altoholic (so remembering different binds for different classes just makes it even more complicated)

  12. Part of it is also the imp vs rep ratio. I rolled both imp and rep on my server and it seems to be a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio between the factions. So if the rep fleet is around 30 then theres prob 60-90 imps on the imperial fleet.

It seems my server usually is standard load and sometimes heavy during peek but theres always 60+ (usually around 80) on the rep fleet.

  13. I really like this game a lot so far. But the FPS-problem on some planets (balmorra for example) is just a mayor pain in the ####!

To just not sit and wait for BW to do there part I ordered more memory and a better GfX-card then what I currently have. I currently got a GTS 450 512 Mbyte card while my wife got a GTS 450 1Gbyte and she is not as much affected, she mostly suffered on Taris but alderan, tatoine and balmorra at least playable for her while I had to quit and reload the game every hour (to release some memory, even though I got 4Gb RAM it seems to fill up untill at around 89% the FPS becomes horrible). That to me indicated that more memory and a stronger GfX-card would help me while they fix it.

So now I done my part to make it playable untill its fixed, BW its time for you to do your part.

  14. So I am a clicker and so far it worked out well for all the games I played. To be somewhat effective during combat I need to gather all combat abillities in a as small box as possible so moving the mouse does not take to long (i.e placing them all on the 2 center bars).

But with SWToR I have hit a wall because of this, my guardian just turned 40 and I got my second combatabillity that does not fit on the 2 center bars. I think that I will be getting more abillities before I reach 50 also that I will use in combat so the problem will only increase.

Therefor I humbly ask Bioware to please add 1 more centerbar so the gameplay for a clicker like me will work out.

  15. My point is very simple, this game shouldn't be released. Would you like to know what Swtor reminds me?

A Windows 95 after release. Not even comparing with Win 98 because it would be insulting Win 98.

I'll bet that even if BW (or any other game company) spent 10 more years polishing the game before release there would still be bugs, exploits or gamebreaking elements after release. An MMO is never finnished so the skill is to release it in a good enough state that players will stick around. In my opinion BW did and actually did it far better then most other MMO:s out there.

  16. How I see things, from patch to patch, they already lost it. So far all patches made game worse and brought in additional bugs.

Sad, so better they will get their crap together and fix this bug mayhem.

I think BW is still trying to "put out fires" and once thats done they will start focusing on the quality of the game. Patch 1.1 is a good example where the no-sleepers where raging the forums about lack of end-game content so BW made sure the patch showed promise in that apartment instead of focusing on correcting bugs or optimizing the game.

The game is still very young but it is extremly promising so at least I am gonna continue enjoy it while BW works on getting quality fixed.

  17. If sharding makes the FPS ok then I am all for it as a workaround while they fix the rootcause. Regarding the engine it seems they bought a "full" license so they can do whatever changes they want to it so its more a resource/time issue then the engine itself.

Whats with the paranoia regarding locking threads??

  18. Me and my wife is having a great time also, so far reaching lvl 37 on my main. However there are some issues that is starting to get annoying that I hope they will fix:

    - FPS on some planets (especially outside on balmorra) is just horrid at times and I'm on a rig according to recommended requirements. Seems this game is a real memory hog.

    - Global Trade Network is really clunky and needs to have its interface overhauled (at least get rid of filters when you just want to search an item).

    - More action bars! I'm a clicker :) which leads to that I want all combat abillities centered so I can click them fast. The two bars down center are already overfilled and I had to move away a combat abillity I dont use often to get room for new ones. Two more bars and the abillity to place them where I want and I'm a happy camper.

Anyway these are issues that I figure will be fix so for now I try to workaround and adept cause the game is just GREAT!
