  1. So, 1) I think this is an awful idea and a waste of resources that they could put into other things 2) has no one done the speeder quest on Ziost? The thing randomly stops moving and is just awful and you think that a racing mini-game would be any better?
  2. I experienced a weird bug with outfit designer creating an outfit out of gear I've never had on a character. When it was released, I skipped the first tab and started filling in, and buying, subsequent tabs. The other day I logged in and my first tab was now populated with gear I have in collections, but haven't unlocked nor have ever had on this particular character.
  3. Your issue of free cosmetic copies is not as dramatic as you seem to think it is. An easy way to get around this would be to require the item for a guild uniform to be deposited into the guild bank in a non-refundable way such as decos currently are. This would ensure that someone "buys" or "wins" the specific armours/dyes etc in the first place. Once deposited they would be lost to that player and only usable whilst in the guild.

This should alleviate your concerns about pricing/rarity of these items.

This is an interesting idea, although i think a lot of people like having their own customisation and not having to look the same as everyone else. Maybe instead of a full set there could be some sort of emblem design that could be applied to armour chest-pieces or lapels or something, depending on the type of gear being worn.

So you think that a single person buying the Revan Reborn armor set and depositing it into the guild and allowing all (potentially) 500 people to use that armor isn't dramatic? That's literally billions out of the market (pants alone for around 10,000,000 x 500 = 5,000,000,000). How is that not a dramatic blow to the economy?

I am of the same opinion as Ratajack, if you already own the piece, fine allow the guild uniform, but not for a pittance or for free. Also, I maintain that this is a huge waste of resources.

Edit: And your post misses the fact that, other than the financial burden of guild members buying their own gear, which SHOULD remain, the ability to do this already exists. You can already enforce a guild uniform if that floats your boat. No one is stopping you. Go run amok.

  4. Install a ingame VoIP and Parsec/Starparse for group/raids. So communications and keeping track of DPS/HPS, instead of players resorting to 3rd party programs.

Bioware's stance on this, at least when they first implemented combat logs at all, was that they don't want people's feelings to be hurt for doing bad DPS, so the logs produced will only ever show things that you do, or things that are done to you. The game doesn't even keep track of your other party member's actions so it can't produce any sort of damage meters.

Personally, I think its a carebear stance that caters to the bads. The only reason people wouldn't want a damage meter to show their damage is if they are doing poor damage. Its frustrating to me that we have to rely on third party tools that must then use third party servers to collect our data and disseminate it to the people in your group to tell if you're not beating an encounter because someone is only pulling 700 DPS. To me, if the game doesn't provide the tools necessary to analyze your group's performance then it still lacking core features.

  5. ANY mini-game of ANY kind is SO badly needed in SWToR.

The indicator is the short flight of the Slot Machines. During the couple of weeks that those were giving special prizes, there was a casino that was outfitted with well over thirty of them, and it was always crowded. Now that they destroyed that by making the slot machines have basically no reward at all, of course the casino is always empty.

Mini-games are the same story. If even the smallest mini-game were to be added, people would flock to it and be playing it ALL THE TIME. Every time you were on Fleet, you'd see people playing it in the middle of the walkways and in front of the GTNs. While waiting for the entire Ops group to arrive in the instance. At the main base during all in-game events. ALL THE TIME!

On the subject of entertainment elements, SWToR is like an unwatered plant that's dying. They've NEVER added a cool entertainment item even though many requests exist. The slot machines would qualify, if only they hadn't made the horrible mistake of nuking the damn things before they even had time to become widely popular. They've neglected the game so badly in this area.

Again, you have a faulty premise. The only reason slot machines were so popular was because they gave a very high return on investment. You got an unprecedented return on investment really. The slot machines during the casino event? People played them because they wanted a Rancor, not because clicking the slot machine was fun.

If we follow the examples you laid out, the only way a mini-game would be popular in the long-term is if it either gave a very rare and coveted reward (in which case eventually people would stop playing it anyway because they'd either get the reward or too frustrated to continue, so its still not a long-term value) or very high return on investment (in which case you'd really cause astronomical inflation which also isn't viable).

Lets look at the slot machines, that you pointed out as an apt parallel, right now. Do very many people use them at all? Not anymore. Why? Because they don't get anything out of it.

  6. You're still BS'ing with the phrase "protect them from themselves" when it's already been stated that that's a non-objective point of view and fault has nothing to do with this issue.

You claiming something doesn't make it fact. I am claiming it does have plenty to do with the issue and is the root of the problem. So, I guess our claims invalidate one another bringing it back to a neutral point. You aren't the authority on anything, you don't get to make claims and then reference yourself as though it were a supported fact. It is your opinion and that's all and your opinion holds no more weight than mine.

Obligation is yet another moot concept. The question is whether there IS a problem of GTN accidents occurring on a continuous basis. Because if these GTN accidents are ongoing, then regardless of any concepts of fault or obligation, something SHOULD be done to fix the problem. No one's debating whether a problem exists, because clearly there's a problem. Debating that the developer shouldn't fix the problem has become nothing more than a favorite troll topic.

That's just nonsense. Obligation has everything to do with it. You can claim that smoking kills and yet, which is definitively worse than losing some fake money. Yet, no store owner is under any obligation to stop people from buying cigarettes. There is a problem and they aren't correcting it. Its not even that cut and dry because BioWare isn't even selling you the cigarettes or the "magic beans", they are just facilitating the transaction which gives them even LESS obligation to try and fix the problem. The owner of the land on which a farmer's market is held is under no obligation to police its sellers to determine the validity of their sales, or to stop each seller and ask them "do you really want to buy these magic beans?". There is no obligation there and obligation begets action. If they aren't obligated to protect people, then they don't have to take any action.

Your entire premise is that BioWare is obligated to do this and they have to because you said it really loudly and berate and insult anyone who disagrees with you. You're not asking them to do it, you're saying they have to because you're trying to be the loudest voice in the room. In actuality, you're just the vocal minority and a reason BioWare will never implement this.

Opposition to this thread has amounted to nothing more than "I don't want obligatory Purchase Confirmation popups" and a lot of ridiculous mileage has been eked out of that one singular objection. I'd also prefer to not have obligatory confirmation popups, however I'm intelligent enough to recognize that the only way to ACTUALLY protect GTN buyers is to make the Purchase Confirmation guaranteed for high-priced items. I'm willing to set aside my personal concerns in order to better protect GTN buyers, because I'm not selfish and I'm willing to accept small tradeoffs for the benefit to be put in place.

I am an intelligent person and I subscribe to the theory of personal responsibility and reject this proposition entirely.

  7. The entire premise is still entirely flawed. BioWare is under no obligation to protect people from themselves just like a grocery store is under no obligation to to stop you from buying cigarettes or 100 packages of twinkies, or 100 liters of vodka. BioWare is under no obligation to protect people from themselves and to claim otherwise is just trying to offload personal responsibility to someone else as to avoid accepting the ramifications of your actions. The owner of the parking lot a farmer's market is held in is under no obligation to stop a shady vendor from selling you "magic beans".
  8. So based on some prompting from reddit, I went back and changed the way I was looking at the data. I wrote a script that parses the log files and looks for these codes to determine if something is defensible or not:

    • DODGE="836045448945505"
    • DEFLECT="836045448945508"
    • MISS="836045448945502"
    • PARRY="836045448945503"

Which should eliminate Resilience from confusing whether an ability is defensible.

From there, it takes the average of the incoming attacks before mitigation where it can determine that as the logs don't tell you what an attack would have hit you for if it misses, and then multiplies that by the amount of times the attack happened giving, what I'd think would be a pretty reasonable assessment of average damage during the fight.

The script then takes the things that were defensible and the things that weren't and generates the percentage of incoming damage that could be affected by Defense. The numbers I came up with are now:

    • Malaphar - 52.22% defensible
    • Sword Squadron - 51.14% defensible
    • Underlurker - 83.08% defensible
    • Revanite Commanders - 79.12% defensible
    • Revan - 56.88% defensible
    • Sparky - 57.21% defensible
    • Bulo - 77.65% defensible
    • Torque - 74.25% defensible
    • Blaster - 72.27% defensible
    • Coratanni - 52.07% defensible

    Updated spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rXAg7RUJjZpUPWDbk2pmc0OMUYcUCpHwaSvVkran1e8/edit?usp=sharing

  9. So I went through the damage I took this week and broke it down by "things I defended against" and "things I did not defend against". I figured that's a pretty solid way to determine if something is melee/ranged or force/tech. I added up the number from what I took and from that the percentage of damage from defensible sources and non-defensible sources presented itself. Admittedly we are not seeing everything in HM yet so I will have to update my spreadsheet as we see the fights, but as of now I have:

    • Malaphar - 100% defensible
    • Sword Squadron - 66.66% defensible
    • Underlurker - 100% defensible
    • Revanite Commanders - 95.20% defensible
    • Revan - 88.96% defensible
    • Sparky - 64.05% defensible
    • Bulo - 95.16% defensible
    • Torque - 64.14% defensible
    • Blaster - 65.34% defensible
    • Coratanni - 73.88% defensible

  10. There are 14 pages to this thread. There are at least 10 pages with other points of view, stating other reasons. Most people who comment on threads, read said posts as to not post comments that have already been stated or expressed and to gather facts before they post. I am not going to take the time to basically reiterate 10 pages of other opinions to you. If you need an English teacher, that is not who I am. But I strongly suggest you find one..

And why did I specify that my group has a special synergy? A unique way that we stat to mesh together, in order to enhance our gameplay as a unit? I think you're being extremely bias against anything different than your thoughts/suggestions/ideas. Much like, Heat-wave.

Go find that post where I specifically say, "that no one else has had the intelligence to figure out" said unique synergy, READ that post (multiple times if that's what it takes to understand), find where it sits in the context of the overall conversation, then come back with the answer to your own question in a PM, as it's still off topic.

You are constantly saying that people need to "use their brains" implying that they aren't currently. You never said "HEY GUYZ I'M SUPER SMARTER THAN YOU!!!" but its the entire gist of your missives.

You know what other people have also said in this thread? There are two sentiments:

    1. I have think I look pretty: This boils down, at its core, to the special snowflake.
    2. I take offense when I'm judged by my gear: Now this can go both ways. Either they have horrible gear and know it, or they have horrible gear but think they've done something super special and unique.

That's it. The vast majority of posts are opposed to the proposal and the few people who are in favor fall into these categories.

  11. Didn't know this was a competition. However, I've proven my point multiple times and there is nothing else for me to explain to in my defense. You people simply aren't reading/comprehending simple English.

It is never going to happen. I agree with that. But to think there are not only 2 reasons why you would want to hide your gear, is pure ignorance. And proving a lack of reading/comprehension as it's been proven there are more than 2 reasons over... how many pages now?

What is your other reason? You keep saying there are more than two, but I don't think that the word "more" means what you think it means because you haven't pointed another one. Instead you just keep condescendingly saying you have "special synergy" hoping to bully other people into not responding, but really you're saying you think you're a special snowflake that has done something special and unique that no one else has had the intelligence to figure out. You keep saying "more than" two, but I really think you mean "equal to" two.

  12. So, I've explained my actual meaning behind my words. What you, the reader, should have concluded via the context of said text.. And you're saying that the meaning I've told you (to make it easy for you to comprehend, since that's a huge problem..) isn't accurate? Lol please, tell me what I'm meaning with my words again.. It's humorous.

And don't get butthurt that you assumed PvE. I could care less about PvE. Maybe it's really YOU that doesn't want to look bad. Maybe you're biased again people who are different, you seem to think they automatically see themselves as "special snowflakes".

    Anyway.. it's been cute. Really.

Nice condescending attitude, but I notice you never responded to any of the points I brought up.

You know why people say you think you are a special snowflake? Because someone who wants to not be inspected is either trying to hide their bad gear or think that how they geared is so special and superior to anyone else that they want to hide it because they think it gives them an advantage. If you didn't think you were a special snowflake why would you care if someone inspected your gear? What mental gymnastics are you going to run through to justify this cognitive dissonance?

    "I don't think I'm a special snowflake!"

"HEY! MY GEAR IS SO SPECIAL NO ONE CAN LOOK AT IT!"

  13. I can see both side to this, as there are many "elitists" at end game, who unless you have done content multiple times and geared in a specific way won't want you in a group, not being able to see gear would be a way of making stuff slightly more accessible.

However, sometimes people would hide stuff for a reason, you only have to see the threads like weird people in groupfinder who clearly don't gear/spec properly so why should others foot a repair bill for wiping due to a undergeared person.

The "elitists" would just kick you outright then rather than perhaps giving you some helpful feedback like "hey, you need to have less alacrity" or something. Instead they'll just kick you outright instead of trying to walk you through allowing inspections through the control panel. I wouldn't waste the time on it, I'd just kick.

  14. There's this thing, called field respec. Someone drops from an op, just respec... you want to do dailies as a dps, just respec. It's pretty simple

Yes please dual-spec. People who keep repeating the "field respec" argument have never tried to change from healer to DPS or vice versa. It isn't just the utility points, its the action bar that is the crux of the issue.

  15. I'm not sure if you're drunk or what.. but, you still do not understand what I've said. Instead you've pulled the bits and pieces that you clung to, out of context, and touched on them. Also, if you read back, you were the one to make this personal.

I even put a nice video to make it simple for those who don't read or comprehend English text very well.. Apparently you didn't click the link. If you did, apparently you have major difficulties with comprehension. So you may want to re-read or click the handy link again, because I'm not going to take MY time, to hold your hand, and reiterate the point for a fourth time.

I have no idea what sort of weird tangential rant you took but you strayed far from the topic at hand. The fact of the matter is that you are not a special snowflake. You are not a pillar of the community. No one seeks you out to copy what you do. No one cares what ridiculous anecdotal experience you had with stacking willpower on your juggernaut. You know why? Because there is a mathematically best way to do things in this game and if you want to deviate from that, fine, have fun...make yourself a little hat that says "gimped by choice to be unique". Inspection won't ever become optional, the three people who think they are special snowflakes aren't enough to make up for the many more people who would be inconvenienced by this.

You complain about wanting to hide your gear and then as soon as someone kicks you from a raid for not letting yourself be inspected you'll be complaining and demanding some sort of solution to that.

I've always found the people opposed to being inspected are the ones who gear themselves up in the worst possible ways and get kicked from groups.

BTW: That video is the worst possible kind of dreck. The person who made the video thinks that if they talk the loudest and use profanity every other word than they will shout down anyone who disagrees. How dare anyone tell me I'm not allowed to like the things I like. That is the worst possible kind of elitist attitude that brings shame to the title "gamer".

You think story isn't important to a game? Go play Spec Ops: The Line and tell me that wasn't an amazing story. Here, I'll link you

that will make the point in a a way that doesn't resort to grammar school thinking. If you don't want a story messing with your game, go back and play Super Mario Bros. or Tetris or Minecraft because this obviously is not the game for you

Also, the video had 0 relevance to this topic.

  16. Once you're willing to troll by using the term 'crusade' you're only accomplishing doing yourself a huge disservice, and have begun to slowly but surely make yourself an enemy towards reason and towards the rational point of view.

You responded to a single word in my post and ignored the rest...it seems pretty clear you don't want to debate, you just want to shout as loudly as you can that you are correct and everyone else is wrong until you've berated people enough that they just roll their eyes and leave.

I maintain the position that your premise that BW has a responsibility to protect its players is faulty and that these outliers do not present a significant enough issue. I maintain that these are acceptable losses and BW is under no obligation to hold your hand and make sure you don't do anything you'd regret. Again, why don't you have a personal police escort everywhere to make sure you don't harm yourself or others? Because that would be silly.

The amount of time that the developers would need to spend to implement your solution is very likely much higher than the amount of money they would lose from people getting angry they mistook a comma for a period and unsubscribing. You also have to factor in people who would unsubscribe because of the added silliness of the GTN purchase process. I don't suspect that would be very high, but I suspect it would very closely mirror the amount they'd lose from people throwing a fit and unsubscribing because of a their own mistake. BW would almost certainly come out with a net loss from implementing your idea, not to mention that it would take away dev time from coding things that a majority of people would like to see.

BW is under no obligation to hold your hand, I'm afraid.

  17. How wouldn't these things not improve the game? I love the game from a story and lore aspect (codex), but when you compare this game to the top MMORPGs in the industry it is severely lacking. Pazaak, swoop racing and cantinas are apart of the Knights of the Old Republic series regardless of what anyone thinks. If in game, these would be solely unique to the Old Republic and give new reasons for players to play the game in the first place.

Also, I know people have complained about chat bubbles, but regardless they should be in the game. So what if they are only for role players, this is a role playing game. Massively multiplayer online role playing game means that it has to automatically cater to roleplayers yet ToR has alienated itself somewhat because it offers minimal role playing features.

Let's just call this a hypothetical situation, but if I was in charge of the direction of game content of the Old Republic, this game would crush its competition. Sadly, that is not the case and instead we have something that it a mere shadow of its predecessors. I think there is some amazing story telling with in this game, but with out the content and depth to back it up, this game is dead in the water. Drastic I know, but it's true. I am passionate about the things that I care about, and yes I do care about this game; however, if this game does not make the changes that the people want then I give it about two more years of life left.

Let's look at Star Wars Galaxies, no one wanted the NGE except for the developers and the game went belly up because of it. They lost over 50% Of their subscribers over the first few months and they never managed to recover so they pulled the plug.

Like I have said, I have seen many MMOS rise and fall and unfortunately the Old Republic is playing a dangerous game. What does WoW do to stay ahead of the curve? It gives the players what they want and don't be confused because I am not pro WoW, but it has the most successful strategy in the business. In addition, A Realm Reborn is arguably the biggest apology in gaming history and it's main perpose is to give the players what they want and crave. Bioware continues to give us useless content; Planets that no one asks for (i.e. Makeb) and features no one asks for (i.e. Cartel market) and they're scratching their heads wondering why they are losing subscribers. They are either extremely ignorant or extremely arogant, but whatever it may be, now is the time to iron out the kinks and give the players the content they want and deserve.

There was a typo, I meant from my perspective it wouldn't improve the game. None of those things sounds remotely fun, and as I've said, I would fully expect them to be things that people would try out and then never touch again like GSF. Putting those things in would necessarily detract from other aspects of the game so I would they rather put in things that I would enjoy.

Blizzard actually has a very vocal stance of ignoring the forums because they've publicly stated that the forums are an echo-chamber for the vocal minority and, given how many people clamored for GSF and GSH I'd say that's been proven pretty correct for SWTOR as well. I'd be very happy if BW took Blizzard's lead and released more PVE and PVP content as opposed to letting us languish in the same content for nearly a year.

You have a pretty high opinion of yourself. Maybe you should start up your own game studio so you can make a game the crushes its competition. Actually, if you were in charge SWTOR sounds like it would be a game I'd unsubscribe from in a heartbeat.

  18. 1) Ban the spammers. IP bans. Gone for good

You don't really seem to understand how TCP/IP works. BW could never do this because there is a good possibility they'd end up blocking legitimate customers.

Imagine if someone on the same ISP you use was a gold seller and they got banned and BW blocked their IP. The next day they release their IP and your machine gets it via DHCP, now you're blocked...gone for good. How would you deal with that?

  19. I think the entire premise of OP's crusade is faulty. BW is under no obligation to protect people more than they are. With the same premise, if one person is stupid and walks into traffic, this premise would suppose that the government would be obligated to prevent 100% of people walking into the street. What is done? Nothing because its an acceptable loss. If someone can't read or understand a do not walk sign, or understand the difference between two numerals after a period and three numerals after a comma that is an acceptable loss.

So far it feels like BW has thought about the "problem" and considers it acceptable losses. I don't really get why people think that BW is under any obligation to prevent them from doing dumb things. You walk into traffic you're gonna get hit and the city isn't going to station police at every intersection to make sure you don't do it again.

  20. More SWG nostalgia? I think you want SWGEmu.

    Edit:

    First a little about me:

I am a huge Star Wars fan and a big MMORPG fan as well. I have a vast experience in MMOs which include World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, City of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxies, Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn and the Elder Scrolls Online. I have seen what separates the bad MMOs from the great MMOs and I have been a witness to the rise and fall of them. Regarding the Old Republic, I first played this game for about 8 months from launch and I left because I got a new job and school was busy. I enjoyed the game at the time, but I knew that there could be improvements to really make this game even more awesome than it already was. I do think it is a great game, but there are a few things that can truly bring this game to the next level.

Here is a list of the top things that I think will improve this game and I encourage people to not only comment, but add their own.

    1. Pazaak -

    2. Cantina Restructure -

    3. More Creatures -

    4. Chat Bubbles -

    5. New Classes -

1-4 Wouldn't improve the game at all from my perspective. I would see 1 & 2 as another waste of time like GSF and GSH that people try out and then a insanely small portion of players actually stick with after the first week.

4 won't ever happen. Even if it did, you can /say when you're dead so that would be just another thing for RP'ers to complain about. "We shouldn't see chat bubbles above someone when they're dead!" wanting BW to change how /say works entirely.

5 won't ever happen. It just won't and they've said as much because people who ask for it don't understand the massive amount of work with voiceovers and getting back old voice actors to completely redo the Guiness record-setting amount of dialog. The best you could hope for is new advanced classes, but that just adds to the complexity of balance and I imagine that isn't something they want to invest more time in.

  21. Meters don't belong in this game, or any MMO IMO. Even if it's only "for personal use". That can leave the door open for other things down the road.

They are a helpful tool to get everyone from newbie to veteran up to par on a solid rotation. However, I am of the opinion that any meter for DPS/Aggro, not matter how big/small, will spiral out of control to something more. The community or this game, myself included, seem a bit entitled. People are already begging, myself included, for the 12x XP boost back after just a taste. If people get a taste of a meter for personal use, they'll want it expanded for guild use, raid use, and then it could become a game element.

People play games to have fun / because they enjoy them presumably. Let people discuss the class(es) on forums and in game how they each run it. Interact, learn customize, DO WHAT YOU WANT, and have a good time. :-P

{rant} Putting meters into this game will merely give the elite minded jerks another tool to put themselves on pedestal above everyone else. Gear and achievement checking already occur. Personal example: 6 days after the Revan expansion was release I queued up for hard mode flashpoint. I met the minimum gear requirement of all item rating 178 or higher as recommended by the dungeon finder system and therefore game developers as intended. I got into the flash point on tython and about 30 seconds after loading in I was vote kicked by the tank for the following reason:

"Zero raid experience. Kick please. We can find another healer."

No mobs were fought, no shots were fired. This was around midnight - 2 AM in the morning server time (PST). I was a little flustered but not entirely surprised. I WAS surprised because it was a new HM and it hadn't even been out a week and people were gear/achievement checking.

Putting meters into the game only gives these people another tool to limit enjoy of the game. My vote: leave the game as is.

Though what I wouldn't give for UI overhaul. :p

Sounds like you destroyed your own argument. People can still be elitist even without meters, so why not give people the tools to make themselves better? Maybe if there were meters, a measurable way to gauge your performance, they wouldn't have kicked you and waited for the quantifiable data instead.

What I hear when people say "I don't want meters!" is "I don't really want to try but also don't want to be called out on not doing a good enough job".
