  1. For me, that lasted exactly 3 seconds. Then it was back to 500-600 KB/s.
  2. I agree, downloading 7 GB at 512KB/s max is a royal pain. Unfortunately, there is not anything the users can do about it or help you with to improve it; it's on the server end that speeds are being limited. So all that can be done is start the download and let it run over night. Maybe the next morning, it'll be done.
  3. Usually the missile break like retro thrusters prevent a lock on for a few seconds. If you mean locking on with that. With blasters, you should be able to always aim and hit.
  4. OK, thanks for that. I stand corrected. Yet I have to say that these criteria got me more puzzled then the "Battle Record". How many battles I played across my entire legacy is nice to know, but doesn't mean squat. Because I could leave the group before the battle starts, and as such never have flown in it, but it will still count as a lost battle and therefore played. This means that the number of battles played across your legacy means exactly nothing. Even with a hypothetically cap in place. Everything that has been explained so far comes down to two business rules that can be regarded as highly questionable in respect to the mentioned "skills". Both of these business rules, games flown over your legacy and the amount of requisition spent, are tracking statistics that mean exactly squat in determining what kind of a pilot some is. It only tracks what tier the components can be on various ships. It could be me, but I see a huge difference here. In that respect we agree with each-other and have a hunch others will agree as well. The question now becomes; what can be regarded as statistics that actually say something about the skill of a player? Is it number of kills? Kill/death ratio? Number of assists? Damage dealt? A combination of all of the before? Does it have to be factored per ship type (a gunship can do a hell of a lot more damage then a scout)? With all the data that is being tracked, surely something should be possible.
  5. I love GSF. I have ever since it hit in 2013. I always enjoyed flying my scout and having great matches in both domination and team deathmatch style. I wanted to fly a Star Wars themed ship ever since SWG stopped and I could again. I remember saving the fleet requisition (5000 of it) to get the flashfire scout as it at least looked like the A-Wing I loved in JTL. I left early 2016 because I needed a break from the game. I played a few last GSF matches and had fun. I said goodbye to those that remained behind and went on with my break from the game. I returned late 2018. I found myself on a different, to me unknown and new server. OK, lets start again with GSF. First few matches I expected to be on the losing end as I needed to get back into it. But eventually I realized something was seriously wrong. Darn near every match ended with 1000 to 50 or 50 to 3 one way or the other. I spent the past months flying throughout the days and found that on the server I'm on, the first couple of days of the conquest, I'm better off foregoing the GSF matches. It will be roflstomping one way or the other. If, on the other hand, I fly from friday on until the next start of conquest (monday at the latest), I get somewhat more balanced matches. For as far as you can call 1000 to 500 or 50 to 25 balanced. Still, it's about 10 times better then in the first few days. Not based on the current kept statistics or ratings. The current tracking of statistics and rating that we all see in the "Battle Record" window, is based on statistics earned in GSF as it is or was. Since my return, I have, in example, my win/loss ratio seen going down from 75% to 43%. How did this get so bad? Well, imagine going up against a group each and every time. I'm not the best pilot, but I'm not the worst either. But the game makes the groups based on those same statistics and then when enough time has gone by, will pitch a ragtag band of lonewolfers against an organised group of pilots. I don't need the force to see the outcome here. The game doesn't break up those groups, nor does the game say: "You want to group? Wait for another group to queue." Herein also lies the issue that newbie pilots will get spawncamped and slaughtered. It doesn't take to many matches, I think 2 of those will do it, to make those pilots go: "If this is what GSF is like, then the hell with it!" Now I fully recognize that this isn't happening on all servers; there are enough posts to find that people see more balanced matches, yet there are also plenty that share my experience. So, back to your question; the only way I see to balance is that the idiotic matchmaking is being resolved first. However, that alone doesn't fix the issue. Because that won't fix the statistics and rating. My rating and statistics have been shot to hell (no pun intended) in a bad way. But those that fly in the roflstomping groups have statistics and ratings that are ridiculously unbelievable the other way. What to do with that? Wipe the slate clean? Talk about stirring up a hornets nest. I don't think that prohibiting people from grouping up is the answer. I think that groups should be matched with groups, not with a randomly thrown together band of lonewolfing pilots. Yet this is what happens currently in the game. And if that results in a competitive match, count your blessings. But most often, it will result in spawncamping. I like competitive games as well. And off course I like winning just as much as the next guy. But winning with 50-1 or 1000-12 is not rewarding as well. It leaves me with an empty feeling. I much rather loose with 48-50 or 875-1000 and have the feeling our team did their very best to win. Far more satisfactory then roflstomping the other team. As to how to get people to stay in GSF: Well, the introduction of GSF is.. actually it is nowhere near what it could be. The piloting community has been saying this for well over 5 years now and has been skillfully ignored regarding that. As I mentioned at the start, when I started with GSF, I had to save up 5000 fleet requisition just to purchase the flashfire (the ship I desired). When I came back and took the introduction quest, I got 25K fleet requisition. Not saying this is a bad thing, but it doesn't inspire newbie pilots to stay. Having a good introduction to GSF explaining all parts of the game would be a good start. Another thing that I remember being suggested, is the notion of PvE piloting. As mentioned, the current introduction quest gives 25K fleet requisition. Every pilot know that to be sort of a minimal viable pilot, the suggested load-out of your ship should have all components at at least tier 3, and that you need the correct crew. 25K Fleet requisition is not getting you there. Have the option to get a certain amount of ship requisition through PvE maps. This gives newbie pilots a way to get better at flying and earn requisition to upgrade the components on their ship. If necessary, make it so once you have all components at tier 3, no more PvE on said ship. Darn, if I knew I was going to be writing this much, I would have suggested to get a bear at the start of this post. Anyway, these are my thoughts.
  6. Glad to see it somewhat works on Star Forge. I have been doing the same over the past days on my server (10-02-2019 until 12-02-2019): TDM 47 - 50 29 - 50 37 - 50 Dom 12 - 1000 (I wish I had made this one up) 11-02-2019 TDM 50 - 10 13 - 50 50 - 37 29 - 50 44 - 11 42 - 44 Dom 1000 - 696 717 - 1000 1000 - 180 200 - 1000 12-02-2019 TDM 46 - 42 50 - 23 16 - 50 19 - 50 Dom 25 - 1000 161 - 1000 All scores are written as own team - opposing team. Welcome to Darth Malgus. I had exactly three close matches that I enjoyed, win or loose. Most of them are incredibly lopsided and I have been on both side, win and loose. And I didn't enjoy them either way. First match of yesterday I was on the winning side and about halfway through I just flew around collecting the upgrades. Simply because I refused to participate in the spawn camping that was going on. I would very much like to know how our fair devs think about these numbers. Something is clearly not correct.
  7. It is not just the steep learning curve, it's the flawed match making as well. Going up against a pre-made group is not fun. Especially when it's a pre-made group 8 people. I fly my fair share of matches and going against a pre-made that manages to spawn camp all three spawn points is not fun. I sure would like the turrets back so one can safely spawn without being shot down almost immediately. I also would like better match making. The game doesn't break up groups and sets them against a group of people the queue as solo flyers. It is done to make the match pop, regards of the match then being totally lob sided and thus not a fun game. I vote to break the group then and divide them over the teams, not to pit a group against people who solo queue. That or make the group wait for another group to queue for battle.
  8. I tried that as well. It yielded the same result (the error message). I ended up recreating the ranks. At least those ranks I wanted to revoke it from now can't withdraw. Still wondering why it showed the error. Maybe because of all the transferring of leadership the past years.
  9. I recently acquired leadership over my guild again and decided to re-setup the guild bank. One of the things I would like to do is to, temporarily, revoke the allowance from certain ranks. I uncheck the box at Withdraw, but I am presented with the error: Couldn't apply general permissions due to error: Must set general permissions if putting a credit allowance for a rank. I check the general guild rank permissions; nothing to find what is remotely connected to the guild bank. This being BioWare and all, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a catch somewhere that I have not noticed. Ayone have a similar experience and found an answer other then recreating all ranks?
  10. I'm the leader of two guilds in this game; one republic, one imperial. Both were doing great at a certain point. We were running operations on both sides regularly and our imperial guild was quite proficient in running HM operations. In both guilds, the majority of members are of account status FTP or Preferred. We helped those people by getting operation passes for them. I then saw my two guilds collapse like a house of cards within a couple of weeks when EA/Bioware decided to pull the operation passes from the store and stating that all remaining passes would become bound to legacy. We quickly handed out those we had to the FTP and Preferred status players. That bought us a few weeks, but after that, we were forced to leave those players out of our operations groups. As at least 75% of both our guilds player bases was of account status FTP or Preferred, no more operations were run. With no more end-game content, such as it is, being able to do, we basically saw a mass exodus of people not logging on anymore. FTP and Preferred status players because EA/Bioware denied them the ability to play the "end-game" content and subscribers because they could not play the "end-game" content due to not enough members online. It made me wonder why Bioware made the decision to go FTP four years ago. I quoted the above, because I wanted to add something to this. What makes the guild system of this game outdated before it started for me, is the absence of one thing: Guild Mail. Before I started playing this game, I played Star Wars: Galaxies (SWG). That MMO started in 2003, and even that game had the option to sent a mail to all guild members. Its successor SWTOR doesn't have that option after being around for 5 years. *headasplode*
  11. I would love to tell them how I really feel, but it takes more then 400 characters for me to do that. I was covering just two subjects and was up to 1500 characters. Don't get me wrong; I still filled it out and just made a top-three list of things to change without any explanation (due to character limit). Better to write something then to not write anything at all; if they don't know, they can't fix.
  12. No retroactive credit for completing this one HM as well for me. Then again, they fixed the text issue with 4.7.1 and it now should register correctly when completed. It was never said it would be retroactively credited with 4.7.1. :/ Edit: However, it did register for me just now. Not for others in the group, sadly.
  13. Just completed this one and hope I will still get it rewarded. Took many tries to get passed the waterdude, so would be really disappointed if I have to spent many more weeks to get it again. Edit: I saw that the completion was registered under Achievements - Flashpoints in the Legacy window (not completed the HM of this FP before today).
  14. It can kind of difficult to read to the people that just start the game. I'll try and explain, and start off with a little legenda: The title mentions the gear obtained through the type of operation (Story Mode, Hard Mode, Nightmare Mode) A = Augment C = Crystal E = Enhancement If you open your character panel, you will see 14 pieces of gear around your character. All 14 pieces can be augmented. To do so, you need augmentation kits, augments, a load of credits and an item modification station (the latter to put the augmentation kit on the piece of gear). Of the previous mentioned 14 pieces of gear, 9 can be modified with armourings, mods and enhancements; headpiece, chestpiece, gloves, bracers, belt, leggings, boots, mainhand and offhand. Of these 9, the belt and the bracers are not able to hold an enhancement. Furthermore, only the offhand and the mainhand are able to hold a crystal. When the author of this guide mentions the following 5607 Endurance (2xC, Stim) | 2648 Defense | 1258 Shield (2xE, 12xA) | 1362 Absorb (8xE, 2xA), he mentions that with the stats Endurance you would need 2 crystals and a stim to achieve the health pool, Shield you would need 2 Enhancements and 12 Augments to achieve the 1258, and with the stat Absorb you would need 8 enhancements and 2 Augments to get the 1362. (The coloured line is an example) This coming from the Defiant, Storymode Gear. I hope it makes a bit more sense now.
  15. The Soul Hunters are a sentient race from Babylon 5 that can collect the souls of individuals. They did not just capture any soul of any individual, only the special ones; leaders, thinkers, poets, dreamers and blessed lunatics. The reasoning behind this is that when the soul of a person vanishes, their knowledge vanishes as well. The captured souls were to important to loose. And to the Soul Hunters, it did not matter what species or race this soul belonged to. The Minbari, however, abhorred this practice as they believed it broke the reincarnation cycle. As a guild in Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR): The guild is newly created as the imperial counterpart to Anla'shok on the republic side. Members of Anla'shok have alts in Soul Hunters. Soul Hunters is focussing on a friendly, sociable, no-pressure environment, and on PvE content like heroics and flashpoints. Seeing as the guild is new, there are not many members yet. We would like to make this a strong guild while maintaining our focus as described above. The currently has a website; Soul Hunters, has a guild bank setup in the game, operates a shared TS3 server with Anla'shok and provides a friendly, social and no-pressure environment in which we hope people will feel welcome in. As we expand, we will be able to do the harder content like operations and world bosses. It is not our goal to evolve into a hard-core raiding guild. Soul hunters is currently looking to expand its ranks with new members of all classes. We are looking for sociable, friendly and mature players (primary criteria). Players of all subscription types (subscribed, preferred or free-to-play) are all welcome, as long as they meet the primary criteria. More information, including our Code of Conduct, can be found on our website. Interested players can also contact me via a PM here, or in the game on my character Shatlana.
  16. For those who know their sci-fi, our guild is named after the rangers from Babylon 5. We are primarily a social guild with members from across Europe. Most evenings we will have around 7 members online and an active group of officers with alts to fill all raiding roles. Recent events regarding the release of new MMO's (WildStar, Elder Scrolls Online) and the summer took a toll on our playerbase. We are looking to expand our ranks with players both new and experienced. Most of our members are in their 20s and 30s although we have some exceptions both older and younger. Being a friendly, mature and sociable person are our primary criteria (rage quitters need not apply ). We operate an organised but no obligation raiding schedule with operations in our calendar weekly to help people gear new 55s and complete end game content - we are currently working our way through NiM ops, so we welcome applications from people looking for that content. We have an affiliation with a friendly guild to do the NiM ops. For our operations we make use of a TS3 server that is naturally also available for chit chat. The guild bank is well stocked with crafting mats and levelling and some end game items available at a discount from GTN prices. We also have several crafters and who do so for free if mats provided. With the strongholds now in the game, the guild has also purchased a guild flagship. We have one or two hard core pvp'ers for those who like to participate in WZ's, we have a casual affiliation with a similar but independent Imp guild who are also a very friendly bunch and many members from both guilds have brought alts into the opposite side. Application form available on our website or contact Freyi/Althenya or Apólló in-game for more information or an invite.
  17. I thought rested XP was build up wherever you logged out, and that only build up faster in resting area's?
  18. I have experienced this more then once. It's basically why I hardly run any ops in the first two days of the weekly anymore. It appeared to me that on the server I'm on (The Red Eclipse), most people tend to run the weeklies, and only the weeklies, as soon as possible. Since I'm more interested in full runs, I tend to hold out a few days longer. The only two ops that people tend to do full runs of in the first few days, are Dread Fortress and Dread Palace. When I join for one of the others, Scum and Villainy or Terror From Beyond, in the first days, it usually ends after the weekly is done. I also watch the advertisements closely. When I see "LFM 1 Tank, 2 healers, rest DPS for {[WEEKLY] Terror From Beyond} 16m SM", I tend to not react om it. I view this doing the weekly only and then stopping it. When I see LFM 1 Tank, 2 healers, rest DPS for {[WEEKLY] Terror From Beyond} 16m SM, FULL RUN", I do react. This clearly specifies that it's a full run. This is more important to me when it concerns Scum and Villainy, as the weekly is the third boss and there are 4 more bosses after it.
  19. How I wish I could stick to guild runs. Unforunately, with the arrival of Elder SCrolls Online, most of my guild has defected to that game. Leaving me with two options. The first is using the groupfinder to enter a flashpoint (there is another fun thread about that) or by means of the advertisements in general chat. But the point I was trying to make is that when I have to put up with some extremely serious people, shouldn't that mean they can put up with me making a joke every now and then? If not, it seems to me there's a double standard. But, like you pointed out, it might very well have to do with patience these days. I can take the occasional hissy fit, I'll just shrug and move on. If others can't take a joking remark, I'll jut accept that they're on a short fuse. And then also shrug and carry on.
  20. Those explosions come after a certain time anyway. Like you, I have been in guild runs where people also on purpose pulled those droids into groups to try and kill as many around themselves. Having been the victom of those pulls on a few occasions, I can still laugh about it. After that, I get rezzed, rezz others and still make the same remark. And is that an excuse to throw a hissy fit when someone makes a joke about it? Not in my opinion. Even as a pug you know that it can happen. In fact, in a PUG, one can basically automatically assume there's going to be a wipe at some point. If there is not, fantastic. If there is, to bad. I have been in PUG's that wiped more then I cared for. Should I have left after one or two wipes? Should I have expected that every PUG I join is flawless and completes every instance (FP or raid) in record time without a single death? If people expect this, then they shouldn't join a PUG; either advertised or via the groupfinder. PUG's are just that; random people together in a group. They don't know eachother, they don't understand eachother's playstyle and are most likely to misunderstand eachother. If this is not what people want, then pardon me but keep it to guild runs. There you can set higher standards then in a PUG.
  21. Ah yeah, those. I have met my (un)fair share of those. Somehow, when this happens, it always turns out that at some point I just stay behind and try to heal myself first. Then wait for my power to come back and then I'll think about catching up. Usually not really necessary as then the people wanting to rush are either a) healing themselves or b) lying dead on the floor. Option b happens more often and that means I will have to cloak out, catch up and perhaps make a remark like "What a fine mess you guys made" before rezzing them. Rushing through is what actually makes do hardly more then three flashpoints a week (just to get the weekly galactic conflicts done). Rushing through an instance is usually the exact problem of most wipes. Rush will push you into haste and haste will push you into the grave. To each their own I would say. Some want to do the FP asap, some like to follow the story, some like to make some jokes and some are dead serious about everything they do. All valid playstyles. However, there is also the possibility of accepting another player's playstyle. If I'm able to accept that someone is dead serious, can they accept that I make a joke inbetween fights about an exploding droid's kill/death ratio?
  22. Nope, you're not. I play a healer myself and when people are topped off, not in any kind of danger of loosing health fast, I fire at some normal mobs as well. Why shouldn't I? A little more DPS to help the killing speed up is not wrong, in my mind. However, I do have the feeling that there are those people that take instance runs way to serious. I like to make a joke every now and then when the situation allows it. Like the 16 person SM Dread Fortress run I did not to long ago with a PUG. When one of the exploding droids took out 8 people, all I said was "Nice shot. :)" There were those that were really pissed off about that comment, and it wasn't even the people that were killed by the droid. I play this game to have fun. If people want to be incredibly serious about everything they do, including playing a game, then I suggest to those people they should also be incredibly serious about their behaviour towards other people. But I guess I'm asking a bit to much of those people.
  23. Appearently, I don't only meet weird people through the groupfinder. As I have said in my post about the main hand weapon, it was a quest reward from when I was doing Makeb and it was better then the wepaon I had back then (meaning: better the the one I was using when I was doing Makeb). I also said that it was an orange weapon, so I could upgrade it. It was, incedently, also an upgrade from the level 45 green weapon I was using then, but that's beside the point. Further more I stated that the aim stat was a thorn in my eye. This clearly implies that my intention to upgrade it with a better barrel was already there. What I seriously don't understand is how worked up some people get when there is even one piece of equipment that is not completely geared towards your class and specification. Personally, I'm more looking at the overall picture of how someone is geared, then at the gear itself. If someone has the stats that belong to the class on all pieces but one, then I could safely assume they know what they're doing and are in the processes of upgrading it. Doesn't mean I have to go ballistic over one single piece of incorrect equipment. And that will be the last I will say about it. This not the place to start this discussion. If you really wish to, please do so in PM's. Yeah, that works until the others in your party are dead and you're left to defend yourself. And that means I'll die as well. But on that boss, I pulled the entire party through, it was with that boarding party that it all went to shambles.
