1. Thanks! And to be honest I have not such a good idea of the effectiveness by placing on a flashdrive. Well write speed should be faster than a HDD (well should be) but I am guessing it will be slower than 500/500 SSD's nowdays. Also what should be considered is the maximum bandwidth and repeative write/read cycles the flashdrive has to endure. It might increase performance, but I think it would barelly be noticable, depending ofc if you fully load the usb flashdrive (I guess will decrease performance, as it requires more bandwith to do it's things). Thats so far I could come up with thinking about it, but then again I might be wrong here.
2. Well settings are not shown automatically but you should go there first. Select the files you want to add to the ramdisk setup. The setup will be done when you press Launch Unleashed. Remember if you want to stop using it, either use Launch Retail or Remove and quit. If you try to start the game with an active setup, it will return all kinds of errors depending on the selected files. First time I've seen a error code 9, but I am guessing it was missing one or more asset files (seeing the pink textures). Running without a ramdisk, but with an active setup will always cause errors. This is due that the files are linked to the ramdisk, and if you try to start SWTOR normally, the ramdisk is not created or even filled. Always remove the setup when you want to go back. SWTOR Unleashed has made it a bit easier, as you can simply launch retail or remove and quit the program to remove the setup. I am guessing you used v2.8? If so and if you are willingly, Remove the setup (manual recovery found in the OP), wipe your settingsfile SwtorUnleashed.xml. Start our program and close it by pressing x. Open SwtorUnleashed.xml and change the line <Log>false</Log> to <log>true</log> and try to start unleashed (after selecting and saving settings). If it goes wrong again, please post the logfile in a spoiler tag here. Thanks and sorry for the inconveniences. Ps. Also going to try a new method for the setup/remove, but it is just an idea, but we are trying to make it perfect at least!
3. Hi yes, but try version 2.8 currently linked in the post. I am pretty sure we fixed that bug already
4. Well yes this would save us allot of trouble if this was possible. Unfortunately the game does something unexpected with these files. First of when the game launcher these files are recreated (thus delete), second even during gameplay they get recreated. Due this nature it is impossible to create the links as the game will simply remove the links and create new original files. This solution came from Lemon_King that created the initinal idea/thread and he linked the SWTOR folder to the ramdisk. In this way the game will create these file on the ramdisk. Just like I said, I am going to rewrite the setup/remove when I got some time, and going to assume different things to setup the algorithm (close to the one I created with the batchscript), and test that out and see if it solves the problem.
5. Not atm. Well you can check 2.7 preview in the post above yours so it will log all actions, this can help us debug better. Anyway im planning to rewrite the whole setup / remove process ala batchscript (with ofc some adjustments) and give that a shot. At leasy no1 had ever trouble with the local while using the batch so I am giving that a shot again. Found a good way to check quickly again if a folder/file is a link, what I used in batch aswell.
6. First of all, if everyting is setup correct the settings will never be lost (look at v1.3 or batchscript) as we 'point' local swtor to the ramdrive, we 'point' back the settings folder to the real location of the settings. This means settings are never even stored on the ramdisk. Before we create the point/link to the ramdisk for local SWTOR we move/copy the settings to another location, so the ramdisk can point it to that. Indeed recovery process is bit more complicated but for both the batch as till v1.3 (and for me 2.6) it works correctly and even when I reboot with an active setup already, I can just start unleashed again with everything intact. Now for you first question why we want local SWTOR on the ramdisk, is because (I guess you didn't read my post of why we create a ramdisk, that was linked in the OP first alinea) there are two streaming cache files. Now these most of the time are 0kB but during loading (refesh and you see) these get filled. By testing these two little buggers have even a greated effect on performance by putting them on the ramdisk than the DiskCacheArena itself.
7. Ok thanks, can you confirm the installpath in this file is correct? And we are actually more insterested in the setting file of version 2.6 as it may contain an error (that somehow got created). Also the reason why you have to repair can be if the local SWTOR folder is still a link (looks like a shortcut) and there is no destination. If this is the case, simply remove this folderlink and create a new folder called SWTOR. [ %localappdata% ]
8. Yes, like I said give it an option for Haha lol, who doesn't want to have that!
9. Nono don't change it. As long as the path is valid that is saved in the xml file. Why I said it looked like it came from the beta as it used to be without spaces around "-" but now they don't. It was just a pure double check. Ok this is very strange about your other post. You say that there was not even a SWTOR folder? In that case, if you remove the setup and run the game normally, let it load. This should remake the folder SWTOR (and content by the game). If you confirmed that there is a new folder SWTOR, please run the unleased once again, as it now should have an exsting folder the program could work with. Ps. Just got home so ill notifty you if i got 1.3 somewhere, though once you confirmed 2.x working I would advice to swap as it has some other improvments all around.
10. Hmm seeing you played this game from an upgrade from beta, as your path the xml file has is E:\Star Wars-The Old Republic Are you sure the path is correct and has no spaces around the "-" in the path? (this was at beta ;p)
11. Anyone else interested so that the dev's can hear this request? As I am still targeting the boss now in game (while healing) to see who the boss is targeting at key points. Greetings.
12. Ok we will look into it if you sure there was never a settings folder created in the installpath. I don't know if you started retail again after removing, so SWTOR can recreate the settings folder and tried again running unleashed. Was a bit easier for us aswell if you could answer the questions in this post as it has a step by step overview for us. In the meantime I can look around for 1.3 source to build it again, once I get to my main pc. But then again I would appreciate if you continue to test newer versions aswell and give feedback if the problem got solved.
13. Why running the repair tool tbh, I don't know. But, not to be able to save the UI (I think you mean the UI-customization) does this also include the general settings of the game? As the UI profiles are saved in the settings folder, it almost must be. Download the newest version 2.6 from the mainpost, and try again and check after launching unleashed the following; Does %localappdata% contain a linked folder called 'SWTOR'? (is a shortcut icon) Is a folder called 'settings' (with content and a folder 'GUIProfiles') created in the installpath of the game? (The place where also 'launcher.exe' exists) On the ramdisk is the path <ramdisk>\SWTOR\swtor\settings available? is that settings folder a linked folder? can you open this folder and see the settings and folder you say when looking to the settings folder in the installpath? Would be cool if you willing to try it again and provide this feedback, so we can try ot find and fix it for other users aswell.
14. Well did you only removed the key ("Install Dir")? To fake a reinstallation of Windows after SWTOR was installed I renamed the "bioware" to "biowarer" in the PATH to the key so our program is unable to find the key, heck the whole path does not exists to the key. Thus having HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\wow6432node\biowarer\star wars-the old republic\Install Dir
15. Nope does not work with a non existing key or path. I received the invalid path warning, and unable to save error again, but this time settings GUI closed. Settings were not saved as the xml file was untouched. Edit; Settings were not saved but notepad++ asked me if I wanted to reload the xml file indicating it did something to the file, but settings were exact the same.
16. Found out, wish to see it a bit different there, read the pm
17. Yes our program looks at the key; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\wow6432node\bioware\star wars-the old republic\Install Dir As it is intended for 64bit we look at this path, without the node would be on a 32bit system.
18. The program just cannot create the key as the path to the key is not even there, just remove the update part of the key. I'm looking at why I got a double error message tough, but can't find it lol. EDIT; found it at the 2nd error message can be removed and it will always trigger when an error occurs, and will be shown after the message that contains more specific information.
19. Was planning to do at some point, but wanted to have a good working version (and cleaned code) beforehand. And getting more people to work on needs some revision control aswell.
20. Haha yes just found out myself, removed the registry key and it cannot save, and a second save returns an invalid path error message! Edit I even get a double error message (one a warning and one an error icon). It is something Exca build in to update the registry key if it was incorrect, but it seems the program bugs out if the while path to the key is not created (beforehand), so it cannot write the key! Thanks for helping finding this bug! And at exca I think we should just remove this extra "help" to update the registry key. It is good enough if people get a message it is not found automatically and they should be able to find it manually. I prefer not going to change things in registry even if they are not correct or created, just what happens at a reinstall of Windows, as for every program that was installed on a different drive they wont have reg entries aswell.
21. Ok seeking further, found out that if the registry key cannot be found the settingfile will not contain <GameDirectory>.....</GameDirectory> While an invald path in the registry key will create the tags. Tought maybe it has to do something with it. Did you reinstalled Windows at some point AFTER you installed SWTOR? (Thus there is no registry entry of the game). Ps at exca when I try to start Unleashed with an invalid path in my settings file, I get invalid path error and a overal settings error saying it cannot launch with incorect settings (ok) but then the program stops working and get the stop working dialogue of Windows.
22. Hold on a moment, are you using 64 or 32 bit of Windows?
23. It is the forum will sometimes add ramdom a space in long strings. I have noticed that before @ batchscripts. This is prevented by wrapping the text in a CODE field. RamdiskLetter 82 is the charcode for R, so it is normal. Remember we save it as a char and not as string. Anyway is RamdiskNumber updated everytime if the program has to mount a new ramdrive? (have not looked at that part of the code yet.) And I think we should now indeed add a logfile in the program as you suggested ;p
24. A default settings file is created at first run of the program (eg there is no file in the directory of the program) and is only adjusted then when an user presses save. So after you entered some settings and click the save button it does nothing? Will look into it if it is, as I have no idea atm but maybe Exca if he reads this. Usual people get invalid settings error. Anyway the local SWTOR is deleted if the program is being started in unleashed and then a link is created, and the settings folder can be found back in the root folder of the game itself (installation path). Well program is internally good now, working on general bugs and extending error reporting/handling for the user as we noticed already it quite lacks the feedback (especially extending errors at saving the settings).
