  1. You really don't understand the process here. Putting the function on the website would completely defeat the purpose of the device. The device takes a serial number that is unique to either your phone or the physical device they sell, and mixes it with a timecode in order to create a code that is unique to the device in your hand and is impossible for an outside source to manipulate or determine. (or at least something close to that process). Think of this way, they have a security key that they have to pay to have produced. They sell it for the lowest cost possible, but also turn around and give people a FREE option if they have a Droid or iPhone. That's generous. They COULD just tell you to use a 25 character password with 2 uppercase letters, 2 numbers, and 2 special characters, and to not be a complete idiot and respond to phishing e-mails...but instead they OFFER you extra security, or they could charge $10 bucks for they physical key, which many people would pay, not give a free option (maybe charge $10 bucks for the app in the app store too), and they'd make a fortune off of the volume sold. So in other words, hush you unappreciative troll.
  2. Well, since your account is hard locked to your security key, this would make it so that you could only play on one computer, or at the very least would have to log in to your account on SWTOR.com from that computer and turn off your security key, then logon from the computer you want to play on and go through the authentication steps on SWTOR.com each time you wanted to play on a different PC.
  3. arrrggh!!! I want something for nothing arrgggghhh!!! The security key costs us what it costs BW to produce them. They're not going to be making much of a profit off of them. The downloadable key is for iPhone and Android because those platforms are designed to allow 3rd party software to be easily made and distributed. I have a physical security key that I ordered last week. It works great and gives me peace of mind, knowing my account won't be stolen. I have a droid phone and would have just downloaded the app, but I didn't want to have to deal with customer service to get my account unlocked if my phone broke or was lost. I had to do that once with WoW's Battlenet Authenticator and it was a pain.
  4. Meh, people that think the game should look like Skyim can go cry in the toilet, but if there's a legit texture issue that's keeping the game from looking how it's designed to look I guess i'd be upset too if i had paid top dollar for my video card.
  5. I definitely would wait until there's something on the front page. I wouldn't take a chance there.
  6. That AMD Dual Core machine probably has PCI-E, but not PCI-E 2.0. I have the same issue right now with my Intel C2D machine. I currently have a GeForce 9800, but since I'm old the older PCI-E, won't a new video card just get choked out by the old bus? I've been under the impression that I need a newer Mobo (and therefore might as well do a full rebuild), in order to get any significant gains. I tend to build machines and then not keep up with current tech until it's time to build a new machine, then i read up all over again. Inefficient i know, so if i'm wrong please correct me.
  7. That makes sense. The definition as I understood it just expanded on that.
  8. I've only used mine once, and the cooldown was 18 hours. However, I bought a Fleet Pass item from one of the Security Key Vendors and it does the same thing but with a 1 Hour Cooldown. Also, my Physical Security Key seems to work well and will keep my account from getting hacked, so all together, a win win.
  9. IIRC, a Twink in WoW (and possibly other MMOs i havn't played where it may exist), was a character that was intentionally leveled to the max level for a particular bracket of PVP, given the best items that it could get for that level, and then kept from leveling any further. Example: Battlegrounds group people from levels 1-9 in one group and levels 10-19 in another, so you level you character to level 19 and use your main to give him all the best stuff you can for level 19, thus making you stronger than most of the people you PVP against.
  10. The Emergency Fleet Pass has an 18 hour cooldown. If you have a Security Key (physical or downloaded on your phone), you can buy a Fleet Pass for 1000 credits from the Security Key Vendor, it only has a 1 hour cooldown, and your star ship is pretty easily accessible from where it drops you off.
  11. I'd like a mailbox on my ship and the ability to fast travel to my ship from anywhere on the planet, at least every 30 or 60 minutes. Maybe even just make the existing Quick Travel cooldown have a Travel to Ship Option on it.
  12. I keep my left hand on a Belkin N52 Speedpad for movement and combat, with my el-cheapo keyboard just being there for hotkeys that I don't use in combat (like Inventory, Character Sheet, etc).
  13. That'd be boring as hell IMO. You'd be OP and would just wax everything. The story line should progress with you, that's the whole point of this game. The story line is all about your character progressing in his/her career, which happens in parallel with both your character leveling up and you getting better as a player.

I've played lots where you can Redistribute your points within your class selection (which you can here, it's even free the first time, i've done it as a Powertech), but i've never seen an MMO that allows you to fully change classes, which is what is being suggested in this thread. Look at the difference between the Bounty Hunter's Powertech and Mercenary. Both have Damage Dealing capability, so lets ignore that for a sec. The primary difference between the two is that Powertech is a Tank, Mercenary is a Healer. Those are different roles, and that's why you can't change between the two. You CAN however respec your Powertech from being able to Tank to being able to deal Damage, and they're even going to include Dual Spec at some point (or so i've heard).
  15. Actually, i'm playing great on a 2005 machine. (Ok you got me, it's a 2007 machine) Medium settings and Frames get bogged down around large scale combat, but I havn't crasshed a single time.
  16. The fact that it's permanent is done in an in-game context. I can see how you could miss it, but then again, but I don't see why it's that big of a deal. Playing the 10 levels again, or even rolling a different class entirely, would still be worth it in this game. You're talking about a handful of hours of a game that you'll potentially play for months or years. Not being able to change ACs is a good call from a gameplay standpoint. It makes the decision matter, and it gives more variety to the classes on a permanent basis. I saw a suggestion about maybe being able to change ACs one time before you hit level 15 or so, and I think that'd be a decent thing to implement, but I don't see why people say this is game breaking. If nothing else, do the research. I asked in game if it was permanent, just to be sure, and got a quick "Yes, be careful with your choice" (of course along with 10 obvious troll replies, but it's easy enough to weed out the real answer).
  17. Yeah, i'd like the ability to change the appearance and name. Once you get into the game and start seeing gear, you get a different idea of how you should have made your character look. Same goes with the names, my legacy name might make me want to change my surname, and the option to do so would be nifty. I'd pay 10 or 15 bucks to be able to come on the website and reset my character so that the next time i log in with him I redo the name and appearance portion of character creation.
  18. I distinctly remember having people in WoW, on several occasions, kiting enemies over to me so that they could steal a vain.
  19. Is it just me, or is the grind already worlds shorter than WoW when it first came out? If I recall, it took an average player a couple of months to get to level 60 in WoW, and a lot of that was the good old "Get me 10 of these items, which will actually require you to kill about 200 of the thing that drops them" type quests. This game looks like it will take a casual player a matter of a few weeks to max level, and that's doing quests that all seem to have a purpose, rather than just grinding. The guys that ARE simply grinding (like with PVP grinding), are maxing out already, after playing the game for less than a week. You don't want to make it TOO easy to max level in an MMO, they need time to add more end game content. At least they seem to make it fairly interesting to level. (That reminded me of a funny WoW Story. Early on in the first weeks of the game, I got stuck on a quest in Stranglethorn Vale to collect Naga Reeds. I could NOT get them to drop, got bored, and the quest took me 4 days real time (so a handful of in-game hours) to actually complete, it almost single-handedly made me quit the game)
  20. I think Macros and Addons would be nice, but aren't entirely necessary. I think some of the more popular features should be hard-coded into the game. They should definitely include the ability to resize and move your bars, I think that's an absolute no-brainer. Some basic macro ability might be handy as well. I havn't played WoW (or any MMO) in a long time, but I remember having a macro in WoW that let me target the Main Assist's target very easily, and i miss that, although I admit that could be in SWTOR and I just havn't found it.
  21. I was on Doomhammer on Day 1 too, and I remember those issues. I've been playing all week on Early access and have played a few hours so far here on SWTOR and I havn't had many issues. I'm even run an old Intel Core 2 Duo/GeForce9800 rig and havn't had any crashes. Maybe i'm just lucky, but my computer runs SWTOR on Day 1 almost as well as it runs WoW right now (admittedly, i'm sure that won't be true in large end-game Operations). I'm sure this game has its issues, but for what it's worth, i've had much more fun on Day 1 of this game than I did on Day 1 of WoW. I'll tell what is the same, not just with WoW, but with every game ever. There will always be a small percentage (a large number of a people, but a small overall percentage), that will find something to complain about. Some of them will be legit gripes, as people will have bugs caused by god-knows-what on their computers, but many will just be unhappy because they're impossible to please.
  22. I run this: Intel Core2Duo E6600 eVGA GeForce 9800 GTKO 4GB GSkill DDR2 PC6400 Memory and I run the game fine on Medium settings at 1440x900 res. I do drop to 15fps if there's a lot of people fighting on my screen at once, but overall, my computer seems to run this game about as well as it did WoW. I'm concerned about end game content, but we'll see how that goes.
  23. The security key would be a waste if you didn't have to call them to disable it. If it could be done via your user account or any other means it's likely that whoever would be stealing your account would be able to defeat the security key as easily as they would the normal login. I had Blizzard's security key on my phone when I played WoW, and I never had a single issue with it, even when traveling out of the country. Obviously that doesn't mean this one will be as reliable, but hopefully it will be. The only problem I had was that at one point my phone got destroyed, so I had to call Blizzard to get the key taken care of while I waited on my replacement phone, and that was like pulling teeth, but only took me a half hour, and other than that it was great. I thought about downloading the app for my phone for SWTOR's key but I decided that, in light of the experience I had above, I'd try the physical security key, so I ordered it and am waiting for it to come in. I'll probably tether the thing to my desk or something when it gets here.
  24. No, they havn't implemented a system like that. You can hide your head armor as mentioned above, but the appearance of everything else is locked. Options like what you are describing have made their way into other MMOs, so maybe they'll implement that later.
