  1. Nothing is "killing" STWOR. Like every other MMO under the sun, the forum doomsaying debates are rooted in the fact that, for whatever reason, we gamers love us some hyperbole. In fact, in keeping with the spirit of the word, hyperbole is without question our single favorite thing in the history of ever. As a result, many of us are genetically incapable of moving from one home to another without claiming the old one will be destroyed in a hail of fire and brimstone. In reality, of course, nearly all of those other MMOs continue to exist. In fact, they're doing pretty well for themselves with dedicated fanbases. Even several games for which one could make a believable case of mismanagement, horrible design choices or neglect by the developers are still chugging along and turning a profit. We gamers also love us some analogies, so here's one of those too. If we gorge ourselves on prime rib every night for several months, the odds are pretty high that we're going to get sick of it and want grilled chicken instead. That's entirely fine, but we don't need to wave our arms wildly, claim the food is prepared terribly and call for the head of the chef, since sweet jeebus, he clearly doesn't know anything and will be out of business in a year. Alternately, we could say "I enjoyed this for a while and it's a good product, but right now it's not my cup of tea, so I want to try something else", but we seldom do. I've played MMOs since the original EverQuest and the routine has always been the same. Always. For serious. Every new game or expac has its honeymoon period, people get bored after a few months, and the vocal forum minority starts to trumpet new games on the horizon as the next big thing. Repeat ad infinitum. At the end of the day, some of us will stay in TOR, some of us will try a new game and stay there, some of us will try a new game and move on yet again, some of us will leave TOR and eventually come back, and some of us will bounce between a few MMOs for variety's sake, and none of this DOOM DOOM FIRE DESTRUCTION FAILWARE TORTANIC BANKRUPTCY AAAAAUGH discussion will amount to beans. Offer constructive feedback about what you like and what you don't, then relax and play whatever game you'd prefer. It's all good. TOR will still be here if you change your mind, I promise.
  2. We gamers do love our hyperbole. Putting the different customizations on the vendor for, say, 100 samples each isn't quite the same as being handed exactly what you want, since you still have to work for it, yes?
  3. I'm in agreement with the OP. The thing I wanted most from this event was the Elara customization. I've purchased thirty-three of the boxes at this point, and with the event nearly over, I still haven't gotten it. That's 660 DNA samples, equivalent to nearly eight of the level 50 crystals, and a whole lot of time burned away. I don't want the other customizations. I can't trade them or even vendor them for a few credits. The rest of the event was pretty good, but when I look back on it, the interesting quests and amusing news holos aren't going to be the first things that spring to mind. I'm going to remember how utterly frustrating and annoying it was to burn away many evenings trying (and likely failing) to get the one item I really wanted before the event ended, forsaking other activities because the clock was ticking down. BioWare, please don't do this again in future events, at least not for simple vanity items. It just isn't fun.
  4. The reward I'd like most from this event is the Elara customization. I'm up to seventeen purchases, with something like seven Kiras and five Revels. That's 340 DNA samples, the equivalent of four crystals and change, and roughly 20 hours of gameplay (no, I didn't do the AFK-on-the-fleet-all-night thing). There are two days remaining in the event and at this point I don't feel particularly good about my chances of acquiring this one simple vanity item, and there's no consolation for my wasted time because I can't do anything with the pile of useless customizations I've acquired. BioWare, I love your game, and I've loved most of this event, but don't ever do this random lottery ticket nonsense ever again. Just put the rewards on the vendor, set the price and let people work toward what they want.
  5. Some communities call it a super-server, some call it a megaserver. In games with no RP servers, the label is "unofficial RP server". Personally I'm keen to call it Frank, because Frank is a nice name. At the end of the day, the intention is always the same, which is this: "We know from experience that RP servers are often filled up with folks who aren't really that interested in role-playing, so we want to try to get as many RPers in one place as we can." It's not a mandate, not a proclamation of superiority and not a claim about who has the biggest number of heavy RPers, RP guilds or hawt Twi'leks in slave bikinis. It's just a "hey, lots of us are trying to gather here, maybe you'd like to come with" sort of deal. In some games those efforts fall flat, in others they've been a success. Both of those are somewhat subjective and only time will tell regardless. Personally, I played on a "big" RP server in WoW and a "small" one in RIFT, just because each had the right community for my tastes. I'm rolling on Lord Adraas not because of the word SUPER~, but because I've gotten to know the community behind the effort and find them to be freaking awesome people who I'm looking forward to hanging out with. Everyone should choose for their own reasons, find the server that's right for them and all will be well.
  6. I'm very excited about setting up shop on Lord Adraas, based on the community I've gotten to know over at SWTOR-RP and friends who are migrating there from other games. It's looking to be a truly awesome assemblage of role-players. As I'm not in the early pre-order crew, I'll just have to wait outside in the cold, face pressed up the window and making sad "please let me in" faces until I get to join you all.
