  1. Thrash is only more burst DPS in PvP if it proced Energize, you had 60+ Force to start (or you cannot Shock again), and all your regular rotation moves are already down. That's not a very common occurence at all.

That's more of a PvE view of it. In PvP there's nothing wrong with build up to a large amount of burst damage sometimes even if it means letting your sustained damage lag for a bit.

Energize procs with recklessness make Shock hit significantly harder. Even moreso if you have the Stalker 4-piece and can get the Recklessness effect on Shock, Chain Shock, and Force Lightning all in one use.

  2. Not everyone craves constant pvp and not everyone will engage in it if they don't get anything other than personal satisfaction for it. There needs to be incentives to get those that are less pvp-centric players to engage in it outside the premade box. There's plenty of things they could do to improve this and more carrots at the end of a stick they could add to encourage it.

This sort of logic makes me sad. It reinforces the idea that PvP is so unwanted, so unpopular, and just plain so BAD that we simply must throw carrots at people to get them to do it at all.

Having raided through EQ and WoW, I understand gear progression in PvE. It's a bit of a necessary evil. But in PvP, why does the idea of having a fun, robust world PvP system take a backseat to "more carrots"?

To play the ping pong game people keep saying the same exact thing about pvp gear who are also unaware of the fact high end PvP gear is actually easy to obtain. @ lvl 49 do warzones and save 1,000 of each token / valor. Also buy one bag ahead of reaching 50. Upon hitting 50 open bag, buy 5 more bags, open those. Then turn around and buy some gear..

So you get 6 bags, which is what...42 champion comms? That wont even get you a set piece.

Or you can just join even a casual raiding guild and go do HM and pretty much get close to full Rakata your first night. PvE is THAT much of a joke right now. Maybe it'll get better later, but the amount of drops and simplicity of the encounters is just staggering.

  3. 2. Quit and go play a niche MMO designed for your type of gameplay.

That's what many people have been doing. I left WoW to go back to Age of Conan, for instance. I've been having fun in SW so far, but I won't kid myself about it being a great PvP game.

I realize that - in light of the insane success of WoW - MMO publishers expect huge subscription numbers. When you're compelled to go for huge subscriber numbers as your primary focus, that usually means producing content that's as middle-of-the-road and mediocre as possible to prevent excluding anyone.

  4. It makes us all look the same and it rewards bads for being bad.

I guess I'm in the minority. My reward is winning. The "bads" never get rewarded with that, so I'm perfectly happy no matter what happens with gear. =)

  5. PVPer's want the Risk/Reward, and Gain access to pvp gear through time and effort while PVEer's just want the gear handed to them so they don't get stomped in PVP.

You got that backwards. PvPers don't care about gear. The people that take gear so seriously are PvE-minded players that fancy themselves awesome PvPers when they gib some poor 12k hp sorcerer.

  6. This is overall the result of players demanding queue and drop PvP.

We all talk about how much we love world PvP but in reality the population doesn't want it. We talk like we do but the reality is many people don't really need it.

Yep. I've been saying that for years, back to early WoW. The playerbase is different from how it was in the UO/EQ/SB days.

People in the modern MMO-era don't actually want world PvP. Oh sure, we always make a big fuss about it on message boards and such, but even then you see that many of the suggestions just revolve around keeping the PvP tucked away in some "PvP zone" and calling it world PvP.

World PvP demands that any time, any place, you can be attacked, your towns and areas can be overrun, your precious PvE can be interrupted, etc. And the modern MMO player just won't stand for that. They might say they want World PvP, but the first day someone interrupts one of their quests they'll be here on the boards with waves of complaint posts about how towns need more guards, PvPers should be in their own area, GM's should do something about disruption, etc.

So we get places like Ilum. Everyone whines about it, but it's what the playerbase asked for, as sad as that is.

  7. So your saying even in the back of your head you haven't noticed PVP servers dying? Maybe you play one of the few that aren't, But most servers you can see the decline in players every week on the PVP servers. It's pretty obvious things are slowing down even more all the time.

If you don't like something, buck up and be your own man and just say you don't like it and you're quitting.

It's rather pathetic how some quitters can't just quit on their own. They have to go around message boards looking for validation, posting about how everyone is leaving with them so they feel more accepted or something.

If you're going, just go. No one cares about your reasons. No one is going to teach you the secret handshake of the Fraternal Order of Quitters where thousands of fellow quitters will pat you on the back and tell you that you did good. Just go.

  8. Blah blah blah.

There's something about MMO's that always attracts the wanna-be prophets that predict the sky is falling. Week after week, month after month.

Hell, WoW has been "dying" for six years if you read the forums! Every time someone runs into something they don't like, "OMG THIS GAME IS DYYYYYYYYYYYYYING!!!"

    Wah wah wah.

  9. If people work harder, put more time and effort into their work and or education, chances are they will earn more, and with this be able to purchase finer cars and homes, affording them extra living space and luxury not available to others.

Just as with the game, people who dedicate more time and effort should be rewarded.....and JUST as in real life, people who have more skill...will also advance further faster, in combination with time spent.

There you guys go again, comparing it to a job. What's the deal with that, anyway?

  10. You cant give people something for free - they will get it, toy with it and get bored very very quicly.

Do you think that people who are responsible for 100+ million dollar project dont know this basics? Its like 2+2=4.

You guys keep missing that even IF this were true...by the time it's available there will be a new tier of gear and champion will be the "crappy" gear anyway. So in any case it'd be meaningless.

  11. Also if you aren't doublestriking you aren't getting your proc for the damage increase to project, which the rotation was based around. What are you using for filler here instead? If you're wasting a GCD then I've effectively mitigated all that damage just because you didn't hit a button.

There's no talent in Kinetic/Darkness that increases Project/Shock damage from using Double Strike. There's one that can make it an auto-crit, but it's far from "what the rotation is based around". A lot of players actually advocate abandoning it altogether in many PvP situations. (I don't go quite THAT far though.)

The point being, when it comes to actually bursting someone down or applying heavy pressure, Double Strike/Saber Strike makes up a tiny amount of the damage, if any at all.

  12. There are some severe flaws in the way you've calculated shield mitigation as just a flat average.

Lets look at, for example, your rotation for the class I play: (Actually I'm an assassin, but whatever)

Force Slow -> Slow Time -> Double Strike -> Project -> Force Breach -> Double Strike -> Project -> Telekinetic Throw -> Saber Strike

    Average Shield/Def Mitigation: 12-13%

    Effective Armor Rating: 85-89%

The problem here is that the overwhelming majority of my damage is wrapped up in the Slow Time/Project/Telekinetic Throw portions of the rotation. Heck, many times I don't even bother or get a chance to use very many Double Strikes at all for various reasons. So to say that they're in the rotation and thus to give them an equal share of the damage output is extremely misleading.

I'm sure the same holds true for many other classes, the bulk of their damage is wrapped up in a few particular abilities and just because maybe 20% of their rotation is made up of shieldable attacks doesn't mean that a shield is applicable against 20% of their damage.

  13. Yeah this is kind of a kick in the teeth to the people who spent time farming Champ gear. You may as well just stop PvPing until the patch if you don't have full Champ because all your effort is going to be wasted. They should make this vendor gear at least a few item levels below Champ so we don't feel like total chumps. Maybe use level 54 mods or something.

It's funny when the people in favor of gear grinds don't seem to understand how they work.

Your Champion gear will be outdated pretty fast anyway. Games that focus on gear grinds have to keep the treadmill going with new gear all the time, so none of your precious, hard-earned gear will last long.

  14. I would like something to show at the end of my day. And no, since Im paying for this game, winning isnt enough.

Absolutely, that's why many of us have been suggesting various avenues of achievement and recognition. Unique armor models, titles, rankings, a public leaderboard or something, all sorts of things.

Some people are just absolutely fixated on gear though.

  15. No one has ever gotten to a position of true power in anything by working the same as the regular 9-5 guy. Not now and not ever.

I think it's interesting how people who want a gear grind keep comparing it to a job and those who want a level playing field compare it to other competitive games or sports.

I guess we know what both sides want from the game. Me, I already have a job, so no thank you to another one that doesn't even pay.

  16. Why do you think Micheal Jordan was better than anyone else, he practiced like mad. If this wasn't the case Allen Iverson would have more rings that Jordan.

In your fantasy world, if Iverson slept (AFKed!) on the court for 72 hours straight, he'd get rocket boots and a harpoon gun to use against Jordan. =D

  17. He did think. This is the issue here. The people who pvp like raiders in pve want the gear gap. They want time invested to be the determining factor in their ability to win. They do not think that a player who has a better understanding of pvp strategy and tactics should necessarily beat them if they played for longer.

Then they should just google "ProgressQuest" and load it up. That should fulfill all their dreams of being on a game all day and thus winning at everything.
