  1. this.

tried waiting in queue in WoW lately? becasue even as a healer I would wait 10-15 minutes or more, as a dps, I pretty much gave up on dungeons (flashpoints)

and yes, that applies to both story versions and hm versions

that said... if there's one thing I would love to see from WoW? its Proving grounds

The queue times are the reason why the last alt I leveled before I quit WoW was a Feral Tank/Resto Druid, instant queue every time.

  2. Your playing it wrong if you aren't pushing ANY spec of Merc/Mando to high heat, Your APM should be in the 35 - 40 Range, and your heat should be high at the 2 - 3 minute part of your spec, and you Vent Heat/Recharge Cells with the boost to heat vented and 10% Alacrity for a slight boost to DPS and Venting.

Arsenal/gunnery is MORE heat efficient when played as aggressively as possible (i.e. using EVERY BB proc on the first available GCD), they literally cannot overheat unless you have something in the rotation that doesn't belong there, or are in the wrong cylinder/cell. It may be possible that our OP mando is not using Boltstorm on every proc like they are supposed to. Blazing Bolts/Boltstorm procs are the reason why Arsenal/Gunnery is supposed to have zero heat/energy issues.

  3. Bug fixes would be nice, however SWTOR is not a sandbox game, they have to keep releasing content patches and expansions or people will get bored and leave.

Even EVE online which is a sandbox game still puts out regular content patches (and regular bug/balance fixes).

  4. Well they are a business so if it stops being profitable they will shut it down sure. However at least as of their January earnings call the CFO, not some marketing dude, was saying how SWTOR contributed to a 47% increase in "extra content and freemium" revenue.

Add that to the fact they clearly have plans, based on the CFO's statement, on capitalizing on the new movie launch, things look good through the medium term, but over the long term only the maker knows.

This^^ so long as the game continues to turn a decent profit they won't shutter it. However they need to keep improving the game in order to keep the money flowing in.

  5. Wildstar was just the latest in a long line of overhyped/underdelivered "WoW Killers", in fact it may have had the saddest launch of any of them. Heck, AOC was literally launched half finished and with a horribly clunky combat system and still managed to hold onto subs for longer (A shame too because graphically it is still one of the prettiest MMOs ever made).

STO has successfully lived off its cash shop for the last 2 years, almost nobody actually pays for a sub in STO, though the huge grind that they added with the Delta Rising expansion may finally drive the Trek die hards away (especially given how little grind and how great a leveling experience it had previously).

SWTOR does seem to have recovered decently from it's teething pains out the gate, it still has the best leveling experience of any theme park MMO and has a decent spread of content to suit everyone from casuals to hardcore raiders. They are doing better than many other MMOs and still manage to crank out content at a reasonable rate despite having a much smaller operating budget than Blizzard has.

EVE is not even really a comparison, EVE is a totally different game from every other MMO and currently has around 600k subs, which is the best sub numbers they have ever had. Also despite it's hardcore reputation it actually is a very friendly game for casual players ... provided you can adjust to concept that you create your own content.

  6. After playing some of the storylines my take on Empire vs Republic is this.

The Republic survives because of the Jedi.

The Empire survives in spite of the Sith.

In SWTOR it is absolutely possible to have a virtuous sith, and a fallen Jedi (most options won't let a Jedi become completely despotic, unlike Sith).

From an RP standpoint, my Merc (who is full light side) has no loyalty to the Empire and no love for the Sith aside from the bounty contracts they give her, but also detests the Republic (and Jedi) because of the widespread corruption within it.

My Operative also has little loyalty to the Empire, but is full on dark side and mostly is just out for himself (given that he has been betrayed by both the Empire and Republic).

  7. I think the problem is people use the wrong metric to determine viable. If you compare them to the class or two that can carry a group/OPs team yeah they may seem less the viable. Problem is that class or two that can carry a group/team is going to get nerfed at some point. You need to not look at the FOTM classes but rather the rest. When you look at the rest, Guard/Jugg is definitely viable. The nerfs inc next patch should put the OPs issue to bed imo. Tbh my only concern with the next update is that the nerfs incoming to a couple classes will be a LITTLE to much. These things do tend to use a pendulumn effect and rarely hit the bullseye.

And at the end of the day, IO Mercs and Engineer Snipers still didn't get nerfed much. The Rav/TOS encouters are still every bit as melee unfriendly as they have ever been.

  8. SWTOR is great for solo and small group content. It is a bit lacking for PvP and raid type content, and BW needs to work on that. I would also add that WoW has traditionally always been starved of solo/small group content, and it currently is lacking for raid content too.

If you want endless and ever changing content EVE is that way-------------> (though sometimes the metagame gets a little slow and you have to make your own content).

  9. You should read this and see why people disliked it.. http://www.gamestudies.org/0501/burke/

If they dropped the star wars part of galaxies it probably would have done better. But when I play a star wars game, I don't want to go off mining mats myself. I want tell my companions to get to work, chop, chop, while I go kill the Big Bad on my Jedi.

That is Star Wars to me, not the 9-to-5 job that SWG was at launch. Star Wars does not fit a sandbox game, it requires EPICNESS and you can't really get that in a sandbox. All 3 TOR games absolutely nailed that, they are epic (although the smuggler feels a little less epic than the rest).

Don't get me wrong, I love sandbox games too. I plan on trying Black Desert when it comes out next year. But SW and sandbox doesn't really mix well, people want to be Obiwan or Anakin, Boba Fett or Han Solo, and you just can't be that in a sandbox.

The main thing that is needed to make sandbox games work is player generated content, to the point where nobody actually cares about the lore. The reason why EVE remains the only successful sandbox is because the large scale PvP metagame basically IS the content, the player alliances (especially the huge nullsec blocs) create the content that people actually care about.

  10. forged alliances is absolutely worth doing, the rewards from it are pretty good. A full set of lvl 55 gear and 300+ comms. It is hilariously easy on solo mode, you can just about let the support droid do all the work.
