  1. So while trying to fix the dreaded quick play issue I killed off the streaming client, but I'm looking at 12+ hours for download because the download server has very low badnwidth. Is it possible at all to re-enable to streaming client? I've tried deleting all traces of SWTOR and bitraider from my system, but when I re-install the launcher it now won't re-install bitraider or re-enable the streaming client.

Is the going to the non-streaming client a permanent one way transition?

  2. Beyond broken at this point. nuked the bitraider version, realized it will take 8-12 hours to download via the old way because the download server has no bandwidth, can't get bitraider working again, the launcher will not revert back to ST even with a complete clean install of SWTOR, something in the registry is preventing the streaming client from ever working again?
  3. Agreed, the tuning on tacs is stupid right now. Get 2 or more lowbies and they become impossible wipe fests.

Example of how stupid it is right now. Pulled Tac Blood Hunt with a group consisting of 65 dps merc with 216 gear (me), 65 merc heals with 208 gear, 60 mara with 186/190 gear and a 58 dps sorc with 178 gear. We could not get past Jos & Valk, the incoming dps in the 3rd phase was more than the healer + kolto dispensers could heal through, Jos's maul ability would instakill my merc even with my DCDs up and I was the least squishy member of the group.

  4. Target switching itself isn't that bad (in my opinion). Where the spec really struggles is in AoE.

On walkers, if the shield is coming up on 1 then I'll maintain my rotation, but rather than an extra charged bolts on 1, I'll dot up unit 2 so I get the benefit when I mag bolt 2. Other than that I just maintain a strict rotation.

For AoE, I really struggle to maintain energy. Malaphar and Sparky are actually the hardest fights (for me). How do most people manage those? I typically find that I just have to single target and ignore that I can AoE unless I can do a free plasma grenade to dot spread or hail of bolts. It would be awesome if the commando had a similar mechanic to sages and slingers whereby they regain resource through dots (either consuming stacks or critting).

I think in most cases IO/AS are not expected to AOE adds, they just continue to single target and DoT spread if an opportunity presents itself. Walkers is one of those fights were Arsenal/Gunnery probably outperforms IO/AS due to the frequent target swaps. Malaphar/Sparky are easy enough that unless your group has more than one IO/AS there shouldn't be much of an issue leaving them on the boss.

  5. Arsenal is much easier, and generally performs better for leveling, dailies and flashpoints. IO can push significantly higher dps on an ops boss, but not until you get the heat ramping phase of the rotation absolutely perfect. The heat neutral rotation does slightly less dps than Arsenal. In actual ops the dps difference isn't as huge as it is on the dummy since it's nearly impossible to get perfect heat ramping phases due to movement (though in many ways heat management is easier because of it) and Arsenal can do nearly it's full potential even in movement heavy fights.
  6. The number of auto attacks and stacking error have a higher Impact than alacrity.

35-36 is fine too, 32-33 is just too low.

Arsenal/Gunnery should have zero auto attacks in the rotation. The top parses are running around 35apm, no clue how much alacrity they were using if any. If anything I would think that alacrity would hurt Arsenal by delaying barrage procs (you would get a lot more situations where you need to hardcast 3x TMs instead of the usual 2x TMs to proc barrage).

Next question is, how much of a dps impact is 33apm vs 35apm as compared to not having set bonuses, or using the crit heavy comms gear?

  7. So instead of leaving the exploit in the game and threatening to banhammer anyone who sells the particular item why not actually FIX the exploit even if you have to cause some additional downtime.

Your method of addressing exploits (i.e. not pushing hotfixes or emergency patching to remove them asap, and sometimes putting off fixing them until the next major patching cycle) reflects poorly on BW as a company.

  8. Your focus should be on improving your APM atm. Gear can help a bit, but it really doesnt matter much since you're apparently still struggling with the priority list. No amount of gear can fix an apm of ~32. Aim for 37-38.

Also, dont work yourself up because of dummy parsing results. Its an indicator for your ability to put out sustained dps in a low stress environment, which translates poorly to actual fights. Arsenal is a rapid burst spec with rapid target switching capability. No matter what you do, Arsenal will always be inferior to other specs when it comes to hitting a target for five minutes without pauses. Just focusing on dummy parsers ignores the actual strengths of the discipline.

If you want to improve your performance during acutal encounters, learn how to burst and how to use ebbs and flows in fights.

Your power will be comparatively low and your aim will be high. Doenst matter at all, power and mainstat are pretty much equal, especially for the level you want to play at.

I would use no more than 400ish crit rating at your gear level, but thats more personal taste than anything else.

Just keep in mind, it really doesnt matter that much. Your main problem is APM, not gear.

So just a question when you refer to APM are you referring to effective APM or just idle button mashing, because there is a big difference? Starparse shows an APM of around 32-33 with the natural flow of the Arsenal "rotation", this assumes using the 1.0s queue and not clipping BB, to me I think that 37APM with arsenal would be a lot of idle button mashing while on the GCD, especially when the 1.0s queue gives you plenty of time to queue up the next ability.

  9. Endgame PVE - take a ranged class, less mechanics to deal with.

Merc Innovative Ordnance currently top parser, DOT. Sniper - Marksman for burst, Egnineering for burst/sustained/AOE, Lethality for lols and tickles.

Sorc - despite nerfs, both specs are viable, if behind Merc IO.

Snipers have been out parsing mercs since 3.1.2, but IO is still very powerful and very unforgiving as usual. If you want to play ranged dps try both sniper and merc and see which one you prefer. Both Arsenal mercs and Marksman snipers are quite easy to play and both are a lot of fun, and put out more than adequate dps for both HM FPs and SM ops.

  10. This is the second time harbinger has gone down went down last night also if there haveing that many problems they might want to reaplace the server or give out server transfers

It's not a single server in the sense you think it is. All of the "servers" are likely virtual machines that live on scalable clusters of physical machines. The issue could be caused by anything ranging from software bugs in the server software to network issues in the datacenter, to even ISP issues.

  11. Where did you get that info from?

Btw... On the login screen you can see a bounty hunter with a blaster rifle (Shae Vizla)... So i am kinda consufed hehe.. Also the launcher now show a powertech with blaster rifle or is a vanguard with BH gear? Oh well.

Shae Vizla's rifle on the intro screen is probably just a disconnect between the devs and art dept. In the cinematics and in-game Shae is always shown with 2 pistols as she is a Merc.

  12. I haven't leveled either since 3.0 came out. Actually considering doing it simply because I have seen other people report issues with the class leveling in PVE now. Maybe it is players not knowing a rotation or pick the proper utilities. Or it could just as equally be sections in the leveling that need changes to the skill aquirement.

But by the time you hit the 50s, Gunnery is the king of PVE. Things die and die quickly. Down time is practically nill for this class. Just run with a properly geared healer and it is all good. My level 60 gunnery is actually my toon of choice to do dailies with.

I leveled my merc almost entirely post-3.0 and it was super easy, maybe a lot of tracer missile spam early on, but you aren't terribly squishy and mako does a good job of keeping you alive. My previous leveling experience was an Op, so I might be a little biased there (given Ops are squishy as heck and have no AoE).
