  1. I don't even know how to respond to that.
  2. Let me point you to the post above yours.
  3. What WoW did was take something and put it into another context. What SWTOR did was take something from another MMO and put it in their MMO, changing it only a little bit.
  4. Questing, dungeons, raids, pvp. That is not copying. That is the genre of MMOs. But taking specific content - a certain raid, a certain battleground - and changing it just a little bit so it looks different is copying. It's the question whether SWTOR took those features specifically from WoW, which I think is most likely, or if they took them from those shooter games. If they did that, how come there's so many other stuff similar to WoW. Just a coincidence? They deliberately went and looked at WoW and asked themselves - how can we take this and make an SWTOR MMO. WoW is the most popular MMO, it's not a crime to do that. It's actually really clever. But to do deny that this didn't happen is naive. I don't get your point. I already said, they took things from other MMOs. But I don't see where it is an almost exact copy of any other game. You only listed a few things. And I also think that something like "Crossroads" is more of a hommage kind of thing, because some of the developers of WoW played Everquest themselves.
  5. The principle in essence is the same. Of course they changed it a bit. They couldn't copy it 100%. Even if all those differences you listed would not be there, you could still just say "hey the map looks different - SotA is a beach, Voidstar is indoors". There is no such thing as a 1:1 copy. Because it would just be too obvious. I thought that was apparent. However, the point still stands, the whole basic idea, the whole skeleton is basically the same. They just changed it a bit, so it looks different enough for people to accept it. I'm not here to hate this game, I like it. I'm not here to hate Bioware, either. But if you look at WoW and SWTOR, you can't oversee the huge similarities. I know that WoW did take things from other MMOs too, but it was never as close to other MMOs as a lot of WoW copies are to WoW.
  6. That they copied? Taking capture the flag, and capture the base concepts is forgiveable, lots of other games had them, but the Strand of the Ancients concept is something very distinct. A very abstract copy then. The similarities between the two battlegrounds are huge.
  7. Did anyone else notice that the Voidstar warzone is just a copy of the World of Warcraft battleground Strand of the Ancients, just without vehicles?
  8. It's not selfish to want this game to be the way you enjoy it the most. We all want that.
  9. Now imagine Friend A doesn't care about who was faster, he just wants to run, because he loves running. Now Friend B pulls out his stopwatch and starts teasing Friend A. Friend A feels embarrassed. He still likes running, but everytime he does, his friends tell him how bad he is and that he should get better. After a while running isn't as much fun to him as it used to be. Is it such a bad thing if you don't care whether you are good at something, you just wanna do it? My teacher used to tell me: "I love playing soccer. I'm terrible at it, but I love it with all my heart."
  10. I didn't say anything about getting kicked. I don't know where you get that from what I wrote. I don't even know how to respond to that.
  11. That's an even better idea. Leaving everytime the instant someone mentions their dps.
  12. Not having a dps meter is not a design flaw, though.
  13. It's really not a good idea to /ignore someone you are in a group with.
  14. It's not about being kicked, it's about people showing off with their dps stats. A dps tool can be a nice thing, but you're letting something loose in the community, that will have a big impact on how people experience dungeons. But if the argument is "I can't see my own dps, so I don't know if my rotation is right.", then people should be given the chance to monitor their own stats. There is no need for them to see the dps of the other group members, if all they want do to is see if they're doing everything right.
  15. Never said I can't "pull my own weight". When I wrote "100dps" I wanted to pick a small number to emphasize, that there are people being nit-picky, and that insult you for every small and minor mistake you make. There's people in MMOs, who will monitor everything you do, and comment on it, even when it's not neccessary. In other MMOS - ok let's just say WoW, people often blame the dps, when the problem lies elsewhere. And of course there's so many situations, where dps needs to be interpreted correctly, like what are the circumstances. This game should not be about whether your dps is 10% higher than the other people in your group. I enjoyed it very much in Lotro. Nobody really cares about dps. If something doesn't work, you try again and don't point fingers at people for not doing the right amount of damage, when the problem most likely is bad coordination. It's much more free and much more fun. BUT, like I said, I have no problem with everybody being able to monitor their own dps, stats or whatever.
  16. I wish Nar Shaddaa would feel more like in Kotor2 and I'd like the quests overall to be more like in the Kotor games. Like those "crime scene" quests I thought were always fun. There's so many characters standing around you can't interact with. So many rooms with nothing in it but decoration.
  17. I am enjoying not having people in my group that yell at me for not doing 100 dps more. But a dps meter, that shows you your own dps would be ok for me.
  18. Well if I say there's people who do that kind of stuff, that consequentially must mean there are also people, who don't.
  19. You can't choose the sex of the character in such games. In MMORPG's you can. And some people certainly choose the sex depending on their own sex. "This is a virtual representation of myself. I'm male, so I'll choose a male character." It might be possible that some people are trying to experience something different by playing a female character. Seeing how it feels to experience something as a member of the opposite sex. Then again they might just find female characters more attractive or it might not mean anything. Who knows.
  20. On the other hand some might want to identify with their character. And if you're rolling a male, you can flirt with women. Anyhow, I don't think it really says anything about your sexual preferences, it's an RPG. I have male and female characters. Then again, I am bisexual. Hmmm.
  21. For me it's immersion to actually walk to my ship, get on board, see my crew, and fly to a different planet. I see my ship depart, I see my ship arriving at the planet, I see the planet from orbit, etc. It feels like actually traveling through space. How is that not immersive? It's basically what you feel when you are travelling to dungeons. You are getting the feeling of actually being part of that world. I also don't get what you mean by going into your ship to log off for the night. Why do you need to do that?
  22. That is my main concern also. It's basically a question of what is more important to you: Convenience or immersion. But I can totally understand if people find this annoying. I guess adding a quicker travel option can't be bad, since I'm always preaching more choice is good. People who like traveling the old way can always just do that. But that's basically why so many people want something like an LFD tool. We just have to keep in mind that with everything good coming to the game, there might be something bad coming along with it.
