  1. Progenitor here too. Haven't queued for a few days, I want a little break. GSF is fun and all but it can get a bit tedious after a while. I did renew my sub though so I will log on again at some point soon
  2. Ugh... Most of the complaints are from people on PvE servers! They have every right to complain. And NO, "don't use AoE's" is not an acceptable answer. AoE's are fun to use, many people spec for them and frankly they should not be penalized by a stupid design oversight.
  3. No, go away. Many people were waiting patiently for better space combat than the tunnel shooter, it's their turn for a bit of fun.
  4. Yeah that's the Federation Cruiser Too bad it can't use stealth, but essentially 5 free damage every 20 seconds (unless zoltan shield ) is pretty awesome. BTW if you want to see a good longplay series for FTL + mods check out Vanguard of Valor. He's also started a Freelancer longplay, which is awesome as I played that game a lot... I wish he'd do SWTOR but he tends to play indie games (exception is new X Com). Well this thread deviated from SWTOR quite a bit. It's all the slugs fault! *shakes fist*
  5. I hope so mate. I may be a bit tired of the same two maps but I still enjoy GSF a lot... I am worried about its long term success and retention though. I really hope it succeeds enough to warrant the developer time and resources for at least somewhat steady upgrades. I don't mean a map a month or something outrageous like that, I would just like to see enough to keep GSF alive and fresh!
  6. A very, very close win... As in 1000-990+ win - especially when you've gotten a good amount of objectives medals for both offense and defence that match
  7. I played 4 games on Progenitor last night pub side, one was pub vs pub but the imps won 2 out of the other 3... A welcome change And I did see a person I recognize from the forum post in aces, encouraging vets to solo queue and go a bit easy on the new players - which seemed to resonate with at least a few of the people there.
  8. Free content or not, judging from their stance on add-ons I doubt they'll let anything third party into the game irrespective of the quality, especially something they'd have to monitor and test quite extensively like player made maps. I know that the modding community and talented fans can make some amazing and creative stuff, hell they've even completed unfinished rushed games for the devs. It's just that BWs stance in this is too rigid. Ugh... Really? That's just lazy. I mean I love GSF, and Bioware has slowly crept back into my good(ish) books since GSF and their WIP on DA:I, but how do they expect to keep GSF interesting for months down the road with just two (and very similar) maps?
  9. In February... The team deathmatch map(s?). I agree that Kuat and Lost are getting a bit old. I would like a cap ship vs cap ship map or two myself... A map editor would be cool but I am 100% certain it would never happen
  10. Yep... I avoid all the risky crew options. I don't know why but I have a serious issue with losing crew Only time I won't restart is if I'm at the flagship.
  11. We can't risk our mission for every backwater station in the galaxy. We shall leave them to their fate.
  12. I'm enjoying GSF a lot but you make some great points OP which I agree with. I am used to the game enough now though to be able to brush off issues I had before... I think that if you give GSF a chance and play a bit more you will also get used to it There is huge room for improvement though, there's no denying that.
  13. I'm not a stellar player by any means but I do have some experience in the game by now so here goes... - GSF has a steep learning curve despite its simplicity. The first few fights you won't yet have a defined goal or method, and you will die a lot. Don't be discouraged, it will get better as long as you persist. - Try to find a role that suits your playstyle and skillset. Are you a killer or an objective driven person? Do you feel more useful and comfortable on the offensive or on the defensive? Once you have pinned down your playstyle work towards improving in it - but try not to neglect the other "roles" too! It's good to have an all-round knowledge of GSF. - Similarly, find a ship that suits you. I am an objective driven player and enjoy quick, agile ships, so the Novadive scout is my go-to ship for most games (I also love the type 2 though). Conversely I can't seem to perform well with the Quell. - The controls are... odd. I would recommend lowering your mouse sensitivity as well as rebinding your keys. You can also reconfigure the UI if you want. Don't make erratic moves with the mouse, they will only throw off your aim and your ship can only turn so fast. Speed + direction changes are more effective than simply trying to evade at a steady speed. Also holding Rmouse to lock is a bit counter intuitive but you'll get used to it - you may want to get cluster missiles as soon as possible until you learn how to lock. - Shoot where your target will be, not where it is (gunship railguns and missile locks excepted). The red reticule will help with that when you've targeted an enemy, you have to lead your shots. If you're experiencing lag you may even have to lead the lead indicator a bit. - Use your power conversion - a LOT. It makes all the difference. IMO engine power is great to have as your default "mode" as it allows you more maneuverability and the ability to get to places you're needed faster. Switch to weapons when you've got someone in your sights and shields are a must when on the defensive in tight spaces (i.e. when you're trying to hold onto a node, your speed/turning does little to aid you in such tight spaces) - Play to win and play for the team. Don't get delusions of grandeur especially at first - there are aces in the game who will wipe the floor with both you and me with one hand tied behind their back. GSF rewards teamwork and selfless play. - Keep a cool head! Don't mindlessly chase people halfway across the map, don't take death personally, don't panic when fired upon and barrel roll into asteroids (TBH I still do that at times but much less now thank god). The calmer you are when you play, the clearer you will think and the steadier your aim and the better your flying will be. - Don't be shy to ask for help... There should be dedicated chat channels on most of the servers. It's possible you will find a veteran who is willing to have you as a wingman. If not, you could try and stick close to a vet, observe them and give them a hand when you can. I hope these tips were helpful!
  14. I play both sides on Progenitor, mostly my pub scout... Maybe it would be a good idea for those of us who use the forums to go on the GSF chat channel (I know it exists pub side) and suggest the points in the thread to the veteran pilots there. I haven't been too active on the channel but they do seem like reasonable types. If enough of us make this plea I believe the others will listen. I'm not sure posting in general chat though would have this effect o.O I would also think we could post on general chat or something and make people aware of the channel (I only learned about it on these boards), and encourage new pilots to join and seek advice if they want. Edit: I am one of those guilty of denying sat access yesterday - though I just played a single game on my pub The points in this thread hadn't occurred to me TBH, but I don't mind sacrificing some good play for a better GSF community. A though! Maybe some vets could organize some group games consisting mostly of newbies, with one or two veterans per side. These would not be winning matches, just sort of intros to show newbies the ropes and give them advice. The vets wouldn't even have to fight, they'd just be there to give them tips and pointers based on what's happening in the map.
  15. I do that too and most of the times I have a good amount of "work"... But sometimes it's just so quiet that I feel I could be doing more for my team. I play these games to win (or at worse lose with dignity), and whilst I do care about my own performance my team's victory comes first, even if it means sacrificing potential kills or even the excitement of feverish battles
  16. Yeah I agree fully... It is a mix of everything that leads to a good personal performance as well as a win for the team... And TBH objectives alone are not indicative of good play any more than damage numbers. I could simply chill out at a satellite that gets attacked like once in the entire game and still rack up objective points like nobody's business. It happens to me sometimes
  17. I think that an average of medals, objective points and damage or kills/assists could be more indicative of general performance.
  18. The funny thing is that cheese mechanics often make a deeper, more fun game! People using abilities etc in unorthodox ways that were possibly not even intended makes for a less streamlined experience, and one where player creativity is rewarded. Of course this is not always the case and some things do end up needing to be fixed but you get my point.
  19. Since the bomber is going to make its way into the game soon and from what I've read has a lot of tools to mess up either type of scout, maybe you should hold on to the nerf complaints for now OP and see where the new status quo will take us. Also... I'm sorry about my small page 1 outburst. It's just that I dislike typical nerf threads in general (though they are often warranted it's still annoying), and I actually feel you're doing yourself a disservice by "whining" as you do seem to be knowledgeable about GSF and have at least used proper argumentation in your posts (and responded very civilly to me)...
  20. It did get pretty one-sided pub side... However I do hope that the imps balance out a bit now as I do want to play on my imp pilot as well I switched to my pub not because they won more, but because I found that the better level of my fellow pilots there actually enhanced my own performance and led me to playing better - I just felt more useful as a whole despite being in the company of much more skilled pilots than myself. Also... Pub ships are way better looking
  21. I exclusively solo queue, and I have much more fun on my pub than my imp - mostly because pubs as a whole seem to be better at it on my server. I am an average player at best, and thought that I would be extremely outclassed and almost invisible on my pub - however I have played my best games on my pub pilot because everyone seems to know what they're doing and just have your back even without communication...
  22. I'd rather not have this. Maybe if they build a PvE version, or the changes are merely flavor changes (e.g. Blaster Override is Force Concentration or something on the force user ship). But I'd rather stick with what we have.
  23. For what it's worth, I've played against Sharee in a pub vs pub match and he/she is indeed a very good pilot, IIRC he/she was topping the scoreboard in that match too.
  24. I for one welcome our new bomber overlords Seriously though I wasn't in the beta so I don't know how powerful they are (I assume they have been nerfed as I've read reports of their power in beta), however I don't mind devising new strategies on my scout to take them out. I would think they've been balanced by now...
  25. You're on Progenitor I take it? I was talking with Rosy yesterday, she (he?) is very knowledgeable about the game and a great flyer. I got my butt kicked by players of her (his?) caliber quite often on my imp char. On the topic of matchmaking, seeing certain names on my team roster (Rosy's among others) is like an "OK, we just won the match" statement before it even starts... They're really good and the upgraded ships they're flying only bolsters their skill. I predict many preferred ragequitting after a match or two against them if matchmaking doesn't kick in properly
