  1. Everythign that drops now is Purple but has only armor as a stat - it doesn't have any values, mob slots, etc.

I've been lookign for information on this update. Aside from finding flashpoints extremely unfun at the moment, I'm very confused by the gearing model compared to the old 12x Model where you could get gear relevent to your level at every planet.

Any guidance/advice on the purpose of purple armor as well as ways to stay up-to-date with gear now?

  2. And this is different from the normal XP rate how exactly?

Oh yes you get to still skip a ton of side missions that don't mean anything and level your character up in a fraction of the time. All so you can go to the 50+ stuff which is completely the same for every class.

Plus you have other options, you don't actually have to do the planetary quests you can use a legacy unlock to make up for the lower XP rate and most likely level just off the class quests. Or you could do different content like Heroics and the like.

In the meantime it also means that people who haven't played though those story lines will still be encouraged to do so and not out level things so fast that they hit end game without knowing the full story. Yeah I know you can buy a 60, but IMO that should only be an option if you already have a lvl 60 character.

Little confused on your point, but I'll try to address it.

Yes, the normal EXP rate had you doing each Planetary Mission + Side Quests in full in order to get your levels (Back in the original release pre-x12 times.) You didn't have to do the bonus series, whcih was the only nice caveat to it.

Under the current system, you only have to do fresh, new, unique content 1-50 for your class stories. You get to sit and enjoy your stories while leveling up at a comfortable (Albeit fast) pace. This basically means that the people who do this can see all their story 1-50 without feeling hasslted to cosntantly go do side content that they may not care about.

What I find funny is that there's people who criticize those who skip side content, citing story, while simultaneously ignoring those who specifically want to be able to just enjoy the main story of their class. I do not possibly understand how this can be contested as a negative for a fresh player coming in compared to the 12x XP system.

Now, I have seen some -WONDERFUL- ideas. The idea that you could unlock it by leveling a class to 50 via the Planetary Quests + Main Story quest actually adequately satisfies both sides, in my opinion. These people would then see the Planet story for the one required time, and would - once again - have the option of turning it off thereafter.

Option, choice, and player enjoyment are important. I don't know anyone that's complained about leveling with thier 12x XP (Though I've seen a few on the forums, citing that it creates a lower skill ceiling for the playerbase) but I've seen plenty that want to quit because they don't want to return to the old way of grinding if they haven't finished their quests. This to me is what kames it a very flawed system.

in the original release of the game, players burned out quickly because the story of most plaents / side quests are not the meat and potatoes for most players. There's only so many ways you can say "Go kill 15 droids for me. Oh, and feel free to make a decision that will only come up in a letter." for most of these quests.

Not gonna deny some are good. But I am gonna say that the players who want to enjoy the story in a story-driven game should be enabled to do that - and the 12x XP system is great for those players. The fact that you can turn it off means that it should never impact YOU as a player, because YOU have the option.

  3. Except under 12X experience they already did all of the class stories.

Everything would be a repeat for them.

And light side versus dark side? Not enough difference to matter.

Oh, hey , you killed this guy instead of capturing them or letting them go? And? Net difference in story? Zero.

Yeah, there are a couple of times where things may play out differently at some point, but it's not like these choices create an entirely different story.

There are even some instances where you can choose to do one of two things, but if you are re-running the Sith Inquisitor story so that one time you can fight the gang leader on Nar Shaddaa and the next time you can cure the sick people you are still repeating 99% of the story to do a mission that is not substantially different from any of a number of other missions in the game, for Sith Inquisitor or any other class.

The one and only case where it really matters is for one companion with one class, but then it only changes your interaction with that companion while the class story remains the same.

You want to make a different choice witht he Agent at the end? You are fine re-running that story because you want to choose differently to get a slightly different conversation at the end?

If that's what you want to do then have fun, but those same different choices can be made for the planetary stories, too, and thus should also add to any replay value they have.

And, again, there will still be "exploration missions", heroics, flashpoints, space missions, PvP, etc as ways to get XP outside of class and planetary missions.

There will still be XP boosts that can be used.

All in all, skipping a planet, or multiple planets, along the way seems entirely doable if someone is really motivated to do so.

I feel like you're arguing a completely different point.

Only one scenario - a very EXTREME scenario I gave - involved doing light/dark side. However, that doesn't address someone who, say, leveled Sith Warrior to 50, saw all that story, and did it with 12x XP, now goes and levels a Sith Inquisitor. This person has to do Planet Story now - whcih for the first time, isn't that bad. They'll do a little extra story and take some extra time.

Now they go and level their Bounty Hunter. Now they have to do planetory story again, in order to get the full experience they need to level. (Repeat)

Now they go and level their Imperial Agent. Now they have to do planetary story again, in order to get the full experience they need to level (Repeat)

And really. How fast did Black Talon get old for you? Someone who doesn't want to run those / rely on the Group Finder is going to be inherantly forced to grind repetative-as-**** content. And this is bad for those in the low levels trying to see all the stories.

  4. The same class stories that you have done multiple times?

That whole "multiple times" reason you used to explain why you don't want to do the planetary stories anymore?

And there will still be other ways to get XP, right? They aren;t getting rid o fall of the side missions are they? PvP and flashpoints will still be out there. Space missions, even, if you want to do that, and GSF if that offers XP.

But if it's too much to ask, then just buy a 60.

If playing the class missions are that important to you then you will find a way to fill in the rest of the XP you need to get to cap.

Sorry, b ut I just couldn't ignore this.

Now, most people using the 12x XP are likely leveling one of every job, to see every story once in their own playthrough. These characters, in the current system, on one side, see the following:

    Imperial

Sith Inquisitor - Main Story Quests

Sith Warrior - Main Story Quests

Bounty Hunter - Main Story quests

Imperial Agent - Main Story Quests

There is NO repeat in this scenario. They see each of the stories, and the only thing that 'repeats' is really the order of the planets due to the way the game levels. You could even CHOOSE to do Planetary stories with ANY of the classes.

Now, let's take a look at what happens with the new system...

    Imperial

Sith Inquisitor - Main Story Quests + Planet Story

Sith Warrior - Main Story Quests + Planet Story

Bounty Hunter - Main Story quests + Planet Story

Imperial Agent - Main Story Quests + Planet Story

Man. Now they have to run the same content four times! How boring. How annoying.

In the above scenario, you're repeating Planet story 3 times to getting 4 different stories.

But let's take it one step forward - let's say they decide to do both Light and Dark of the Imperial quests.

    Imperials

Light Sith Inquisitor - Main Story Quests + Planet

Light Sith Warrior - Main Story Quests + Planet

Light Bounty Hunter - Main Story quests + Planet

Light Imperial Agent - Main Story Quests + Planet

Dark Sith Inquisitor - Main Story Quests + Planet

Dark Sith Warrior - Main Story Quests + Planet

Dark Bounty Hunter - Main Story quests + Planet

Dark Imperial Agent - Main Story Quests + Planet

Man, my eyes are already rolling into my head as I space bar through those planetary quests.

In the above example, you have to run the planetary quest 8 times compared to your 8 different stories. Even if you give the benefit to say that the PLanet has a Light/Dark Path too, that's still a repeat of 7 to 8 Repeat:Unique.

EDITS: Had some formatting issues. Sorry! Also, this little blurb below is being added in a post-edit:

I'll take one more, and say 'one of every class'...

    Sith Inquisitor + Planetary Quest

    Sith Warrior

    Bounty Hunter

    Imperial Agent

    Jedi Knight + Planetary Quest

    Jedi Consular

    Smuggler

    Trooper

In the current format, you get 8 stories, 2 planetary quests (Optonal), no repeats.

In the updated system, you get 8 stories, 8 planetary quests. 6 of which are repeats. At best, only a repeat of 4 times if you do light/dark choices.

  5. Same, I want to be able to run flashpoints again (at 60) because to many bad players hit 55 with 12x XP and made the whole GF system unfun and frustrating.

Game doesnt need more new 55s

needs a ton of smarter 55s

I was actually ready to cancel account if they kept 12x XP in game as it was just to big a detriment to my personal gaming experience in game.

Plus with all the xp boosts its so freaking easy and fast to level up with out the 12x XP being in.

So tell me - How does grinding low level quests on easy mobs make them any smarter?

It doesn't , really. You use the same amount of skill clearing your Story as you do Sidequests. The streamlined process just bypasses the Questing for those who want to get alts up fast / want to enjoy the story (The sidequests in this game are sub-par compared to the main story.)

  6. this is a very old thread fyi

As a player who returned to the game specifically for the story (I quit back when this game first came out because of how dull it was), I actually appreciated his response as it let me know exactly how long the 12XP bonus will be going for.

This topic was the first thread in a google search regarding how long the 12x lasts for. So yea. Just so you know, some people like me will find this and like it. ^^

  7. Yeah, oddly I predict that a lot of female players are going to be cool with romancing girls as a male character, while male players will be squicked out by romancing guys (well, unless they are into that). I would have *zero* issues romancing Vette as a female though... (goes to take a cold shower).

Again, I certainly don't consider myself a bigot. I just find the idea personally distasteful.

There's nothing wrong with it. It's an option available to everyone, and if you choose not to use it - more power to you. I personally am fascinated by the story, and I enjoy seeing it through the character's eyes (even if those eyes may be feminine.)

It doesn't make you a bigot. Just make sure not to push your preferences onto others, and there's nothing wrong with it. :p Though comments like 'Well, unless they're into that' is the only part that worries me a little. There's a number of reasons to play the game from the opposite gender, and it adds replayability.

  8. > Also goes to girls playing male characters <

Did you follow the romance side of your companion quests?

Very curious. As a straight male player, while I have zero problems with relationships between any combination of genders IRL or ingame, there is something about playing a female toon and then romancing a male NPC that seems...icky to me. I could never do it.

    Does this make me intolerant?

I was actually mildly interested in seeing the female romance options they have available. While I haven't actually looked into this at all, it does seem like something I would do for fun (Hell, I romanced Garrus in Mass Effect 2 as FemShep.)

I think it's moreso about seeing the story and character interactions. Or at least it is for me - I find it fun to see how the characters change their reaction to a female from the male perspective. xD

Oh Garrus, you were hilarious. Always savoring that last shot right before popping your thermal heat sink...

  9. PVP servers are definently fun for this. Me and my duo partner wnet out to go get the Datacron from the blimp at Tatooine. When we got there, a level 28 was fighting a level 32 - and he won, oddly! He warned us that there was a PVP Empire there, and so we did the logical thing - we teamed up.

Slowly with time, our little 3-man team became an 8-man operations group, all going for the Datacron. The guy that kept trying to stealth kill the 3 of us at first (He was stealthing, waiting to grief us, but we would catch site of him, AoE him, and murder him) wound up giving up and warping.

After about 20 minutes of waiting for the baloon we needed to get to the datacron to come, we finally were able to see it coming closer - and on the Horizon, a level 50 sith and 2 friends coming along with him. On-levels, but was a bit of a surprise.

Let me be honest with you, we were not a coordinated, masterful, expert group by any standards. I had my doubts that I could heal everyone, or that the team we had would work together enough to pull it off. The numbers were stacked in our favor, but our highest level was 1 44 - meaning this level 50 had a clear advantage.

When they came and attacked, one person's HP dropped by 50% in one casted strike. It was a rather painful thing to recover from, but we healed through it - and you know what was funny? With all of us swarming that 50, we beat him down to 50% HP rather fast.

He proceeded to run to recover, leaving his friends behind. At which point we slaughtered them all. We held our ground, fighting the 50, and got on the baloon in the end.

The greatest part of it was that in the end, he tried to run to the edge where we had jumped form to escape - tried to cast a spell on us in a last-ditch effort of 'I can still kill ONE of you!'... And I proceeded to ranged-interrupt his face. Nothing quite as epic as that. XD

Moral of the story: You need to PVP on a PVP server to survive. There's power in numbers, and while I'm sorry to hear that 50's were curbstomping you, you really should rally some friends / randoms together to fight back. It's all you CAN do. Otherwise, you just have to give up, or go to a different shard if you're able to.

  10. The Bonus Area of Nar Shaddaa has open-world PVP, I know this from experience (We demolished 2 higher levels who jumped us, then when we were fighting a gold-star mob well over our level, they jumped us after hiding, lol.)

But it's nice that both sides can meet in Nar Shaddaa's cantina @_@

  11. I wonder if the OP is a traditional FFXI player. There's just something that makes one more warm and opening when people actually send a message - or perhaps it's just the fufillment of a social action that gives us faith that the party can communicate and work as a cohesive unit. Either way, I agree completely... I wouldn't join from a blind invite.

This goes doubly so for Guild Invites, and honestly they are both looked at in the same light to me.

  12. I would love to see some more races, as well. It really makes me paranoid of making alts if they plan to add in more races later, because I'll be kicking myself in the *** if I find out 'I Could've been THIS awesome race if I had waited?!'

Really hope to see more soon!

  13. Do you mean you want the option to take another lower-level *player* as your Padawan/Acolyte?

Can do that on RP servers- or even on non-RP servers, if you've got an RP friend willing, of course. A bit awkward if you're both the same class, since conversations like :

"My last master betrayed me and tried to move her soul into my body so she could live forever..."

"That's a bit of a weird co-incidence... hang on, her name wasn't Zash, was it? That two-timing hussy, I thought I was special!"

... could be a bit awkward for RP... but I don't see any reason at all why a level 35 Sith Assassin couldn't take a level 20 Sith Juggernaut as his or her Apprentice, for instance- or any variation along that theme.

If you mean an NPC apprentice... then, yes, as people say, some of your companions take on that role later in the story.

I don't RP those storylines at all. Create a seperate storyline from that, and you should be clear.

  14. Yes. You die with your face bashed in, your chest exploded out, and several blaster burns in the heap that used to be your body.

I die with my carbine stuck in the stomach of a sith, three others dead behind me, as he shoves his lightsaber through my helmetless face, my leg bent at an odd angle, hair streaming behind me dramatically.

s'all good, that's just my sith character, didn't like him anyways.

I usually play my Republic Jedi Padawan anyways. :p
